Bias Tires vs. Radial Tires

Bias vs. radial tire graphic

Bias ply tires are designed for off-road or agricultural applications. They are built with thick, durable nylon cords that are positioned at a 30- to 45-degree angle to the direction of travel. The layers alternate in a crisscross pattern, making the sidewalls stiffer so that the entire tire is able to flex easily. As a result, the tire provides a smooth ride and improved handling when trailering on uneven surfaces.

Video Transcript for Kenda Tires and Wheels - Tire Only - AM10412 Review

Speaker 1: Today we're going to take a look at the Kenda 7.00-15LT Bias Trailer Tire in a load range D. This bias-ply tire is great for agricultural and off-road use. Constructed with full nylon plys for a long life. Uses a flat computer-generated tread to provide improved stability and traction for excellent handling. Does use an advanced rubber compound will give you longer tread wear as well as low-rolling resistance for nice smooth ride. Now on this tire, it's listed an 7.00-15LT. When the LT of the light truck designation is listed after the size of the tire, that means it is designed for heavy duty trailers carrying large loads, not just for light trucks.

This tire does meet the DOT Department of Transportation specifications. Few specs on this. This tire is designed to fit a wheel rim of 15 inch by 5 inch wide, 15 inch by 5 1/2 inch wide and 15 inch by 6 inch wide. Tire size again, which is stamped on here, 7.00-15LT. Section width on it is 7.7 inches.

Overall diameter from the very bottom to the top is 29.3. The load range on this tire is a D, which means it's an 8 ply-rated tire. Has a maximum load capacity of 2,149 pounds at 60 psi.One last thing I do want to mention most all the new tires are coming through with a speed rating on them. The speed rating will be listed right after the size. So here's your size.

Then if you look in this box right here, you'll see two numbers, 107, 105. That's the load index. Then the letter L. Speed rating is always designated by a letter designation. Speed rating L on this will mean 75 miles per hour.

That should do it for the review of the Kenda 7.00-15LT biased trailer tire in a load range D.

Great tire and I thought a reasonable price too. I just got a 1964 22’ camper trailer with these size tires. I was going to change to a more normal size (ie 225/65/15) but there wasn’t a tire that was the exact same size as the 7.00/15, and from my research I would have had to get a new rim. With this size I could keel everything original. Tire is sturdy, tracks well, etc. good investment and I’m sure as long as I keep them hidden from the AZ sun when storing the trailer then they will last for many years. 662184

We alternatively have the Kenda 7.00-15LT Bias Trailer Tire - Load Range D # AM10412 rated for 2,156 lbs at 60 psi. Both of these are rated for 65 mph max speed. • Spare Wheel & Tire For 4 Bolts On 9.44 & 7.00x15lt Tire
  • Since your tires are 7.00X15LT, the "15" in that tire size means that they are on 15 inch rims. If you need it I have articles attached that explain how to measure a trailer tire and wheel. When you measure make sure you're measuring inside to inside at the tire bead seat. The same with the width, inside to inside because what you're measuring on the dimensions is where the tire is seated. I also have videos attached that show(s) how to measure a tire and wheel. • Metric Replacement Trailer Tire for a 7.00-15
  • We actually have 7.00-15 tires if would like to just replace the ones you have now with the same size, part # AM10412 for load range d or part # AM10414 for load range e. However, the next closest metric tire we have is going to be a 225/75-15 which is going to be 1" smaller in diameter and 1.2" larger in width. For this, I recommend the Goodyear Endurance ST225/75R15 Radial Trailer part # 724857519 for a premium replacement option or the Contender ST225/75R15 Radial Trailer Tire part #...

  • The light truck (LT-type) tire size 7.00-15LT has an overall diameter when mounted and inflated of approximately 29.4-inches. The other tire size you referenced, 255/70R15, will have an overall diameter of approximately 29-inches. You can refer to the linked article on tire sizing for more on tire sizes and weight capacities. I also linked another helpful article and video on trailer tires that contain much useful information. In the tire size 7.00-15 we offer two bias ply tire options,...

  • Replacement 7.00-15 Size Trailer Tires with Load Range E
  • The only E rated 7.00-15 size tire we carry is part # AM10414 which is an LT. The LT is listed after the tire size which means it's rated for trailer use as well. It's maximum capacity is 2,403 pounds at 70 psi so it's plenty for your trailer's weight. For your weight capacity you can actually go down to the D rated tire, part # AM10412, of the same size. It's rated for 2,156 pounds at 60 psi so it's still plenty for you.

  • What is the Replacement Trailer Tire Size for 7.00-15
  • The 7.00-15 tire size is still a current tire size manufactured today. We offer the Kenda K391M Tire, # AM10414 load range E, and # AM10412 load range D, tires in this size. The closest metric tire size to this is ST205/75-15. The ST205/75-15 tires are an 1/8" wider and 2" shorter in overall diameter. • What is the Original Tire Size on a 1974 Airstream Travel Trailer
  • Yes, I can tell you the tire size that is supposed to be on your 1974 Airstream travel trailer. It was originally a 7.00-15. If you want to stick with this size then we have a load range D, # AM10412, rated for 2,156 pounds at 60 psi. Or there is a load range E, # AM10414, rated for 2,403 pounds at 70 psi. However this size will likely not fit the wheels you have now because the 235 is so much wider than a 7.00-15 (over 1-1/2 inches wider). You would need wheels that are 5 to 6 inches...

  • If you are only going to be using different size tires in a pinch you can get away with using 7.00-15LT tires and ST205/75D15 tires on your trailer but you are going to want to use the same size tires as a general rule. If you don't, the different size tires (7.00-15 will be approximately 2 inches larger in diameter) will mean your tires will wear unevenly and there is going to be potential issues with your trailer in terms of tracking and ride. To compare to what you have a 195/65-15 tire has a diameter/height of 25 inches and a width of 7.7 inches.
