Video Transcript for Review of Kenda Tires and Wheels - Tire Only - AM10068

Today we're going to take a look at the Kenda Loadstar 5.30 by 12 bias trailer tire in a Load Range D. Now this bias design tire's great for off-road and agricultural use. It does exceed the DOT department of transportation requirements. This tire is designed to fit on a wheel size of 12 inches by four inches wide. The tire size, which will be stamped right on here is 5.30-12. The Section width on this tire is going to be five and a half inches. Overall diameter from the bottom to the top when it's inflated, is 21.9 inches.

This tire is a Load Range D, which means it's an eight ply rated tire. It does have a maximum load capacity of 1,250 pounds at 105 PSI. One last thing is because this tire does not have a speed rating stamped on it, this tire is limited to a speed rating of 65 miles per hour. But That should do it for the review on the Kenda Loadstar 5.30 by 12 bias trailer tire in a Load Range D.

Received the two trailer tires that I ordered, tires look good, mounted them, and replaced the worn out ones on my trailer, Haven't had time to use the trailer as yet, but the price is good and the free shipping was relatively fast. So far I'm very pleased with the merchandise. 123719

I received the tires quickly, however I am a little disappointed in the date code on one of the tires. It is over a year ago. I have always loved dealing with e-trailer...this is my first disappointment with them. 589889

Comments
Its not unheard of for tires to arrive at our location that were manufactured a year or so before we receive them. The tires are manufactured overseas. After they are manufactured, they sit in a warehouse for a length of time until theyre loaded into a shipping container and ultimately onto a container ship and shipped to the US. The trip here and entry through US Customs can take more than a month. The tires then sit in a warehouse in the US until we order and receive them. Tires that are stored in a warehouse under somewhat controlled conditions dont age, flat spot or dry rot like tires that are exposed to the elements and UV radiation do. The fact that your tires were a bit older than a year when you received them will not have any negative effect on their lifespan or durability. They should be good for up to 6-7 years, assuming they are not stored in direct sunlight, not overloaded, kept properly inflated and their speed rating isnt being exceeded.

Very pleased with shipping and shipping time on the two 530/12 tires I ordered for my Flagstaff pop-up camping trailer. Wasn't sure how I was going to get them opened up enough to get them seated on my rims but decided to put a 12 inch inner tube I had from a Farmall Cub front tire inside and put just enough air to push them open the width of the rims. Left the tube in a couple days and when I deflated the tube the tires stayed open. Maybe someone else may want to try this. I haven't put them on my trailer yet so don't have a picture. Follow up later. 597309

Very pleased with the Kenda 5.30 X 12 tires. Local store wanted $70 plus tax for ONE tire that was only load range C (6ply). So I simply ordered TWO of these load range D (8ply) for $78 shipped to my door! Very happy with etrailer prices, selection, and customer service. Greg was very helpful. Plus fast free shipping, even at Christmas time. Definitely will use etrailer again in the future! 592245

The old tires on my trailer were 5.30-12 load range C. The new tires I ordered were the same size, load range D. I was a little concerned in that the C range tires call for a 4 in wide rim and the new load range D tires require a 4 1/2 in wide rim. I am glad to say the new "D" tires fit on my 4 inch rims with no problems. A word of warning however, they are VERY stiff and difficult to get on the rim. I had a tire shop do the work. 552999

Ask the Experts about this Kenda Tires and Wheels

  • Can a 5.30-12 Size Tire be Replaced with a ST145/R12 Size Tire
Since both a ST145/R12 size tire, like the Kenda Karrier S-Trail # AM10130, and a 5.30-12 size tire, like the Kenda K353 # AM10068, fit a 12 inch wheel, a ST145/R12 size tire can replace a 5.30-12 size tire. Keep in mind that these tires do have slightly different diameters and widths though, so you will want to do some measuring to make sure that the ST145/R12 tire will fit on your trailer. The 5.30-12 tire that you currently have has a section width of 5.3 inches and has a diameter...

  • Is a Load Range D Trailer Tire Better for Long Trips than a Load Range C of the Same Size
Going with a higher load range within the same tire size has some benefits. It will have a higher ply rating which means the tire will be stronger. Keep in mind though that the higher capacity does not increase the capacity of the trailer. The issue you may run into though is with the wheels. If your wheels have a psi rating that is lower than what the tires are rated for then you can end up with leaks or damage though damage isn't as likely in the short term. The psi rating for...

  • Speed Rating of Kenda K353 Bias 5.30-12 Size Trailer Tire
The Kenda K353 bias trailer tire, part # AM10068, doesn't have a listed maximum speed rating on the sidewall. It's categorized as a "High Speed" tire which identifies the max speed as 65 mph. We do carry the Taskmaster 5.30-12 tire, part # TTWAS53012SM4HP, which has a speed rating of 81 mph. It's only offered already mounted on a silver mod wheel with a 4 on 4 bolt pattern. It also has a lower weight capacity at 1,050 pounds compared to the Kenda which is 1,250 pounds.

  • What is the Speed Rating for Kenda Karrier S-Trail ST145/R12 Radial Trailer Tire
The trailer tires we carry are rated for 65 miles per hour at most. Traveling 80 miles an hour will produce too much heat for a trailer tire. The problem is that trailer tires are made with a thicker side wall than passenger vehicle tires. This means that they can get hotter faster and going over the rated speed will lead to excessive heat build up. Excessive heat build-up in a tire can lead to diminished tread life and tire failure. Radial tires dissipate heat better but are still rated...

  • Capacity of 5.3 x 12 Tires and Wheels Compared to 175/80R13 Tires and Wheels on a Boat Trailer
According to our resident tire expert, trailer tires often fail because they are not used and maintained as much as automotive tires and/or they are not filled to the recommended psi which would cause a blowout. So it could be that type of issue, rather than the tires being too small. In this case, a load range D tire, 5.3 x 12, like # AM10068, is rated at 1,250 pounds at 105 psi. So total weight capacity of two would be 2,500 pounds. That is very close to the dry weight of the trailer,...

If you were to go with a 5.30-12 load range D tire # AM10068 it will have a ply rating of 8 which is going to be higher than a 4.80-12 tire. This means a stronger tire and it should not wear as quickly as the 4.80-12. The 5.30-12 is also going to be almost 1-1/2 inches taller so there would be fewer revolutions of the tire compared to the 4.80-12 over the same distance. First, going with the larger, higher capacity tire will provide a stiffer ride for your trailer suspension and trailer. This will cause wear on the suspension parts.
