Video Transcript for Americana Tire Inflation and Repair - Valve Stems - AM20903 Review

Today we're going to review part number AM20903. This is the rubber snap-in valve stem with the maximum pressure of eighty PSI and the effective length of one and a quarter inches long. These tubeless rubber snap-in valves stems are designed for passenger car, light duty trailer, and light truck wheels. These valves will allow a cold air tire inflation pressure on the tire of a maximum of sixty-five PSI. These are typically used in steel wheels. These snap-in valve stems have a rubber snap-in base with the plastic cap that goes over the valve.

The effective length on the valve stem is always measured once it's installed in the wheel, so basically where it comes through the wheel to the very top of the cap. On this one the effective length, if we measure, it's going to be right at one and a quarter inches. That should do it for the review on part number AM20903, the rubber snap-in valve stem with the maximum eighty PSI rating and the inch and a quarter inch effective length. .

I put new tires on my trailer wheels so I also replaced the valve stems. These ones I like because they are easy to push through from the inside. A little soap and water makes that easier. 752760

I called to ask about aluminum vs galvanized rims and all the pieces & parts i'd need to make up a complete set for my boat trailer. With help from Samantha G. (G= great) I decided on the AM20534 with valve stems from etrailer.com. Samantha G. gave me a delivery date, they arrived on-time, and I'm very happy with my choice. Thank you Samantha G. I completed work on a ball discharge system for Boy Scouts in which I used this stem (minus the valve) to connect to a CO2 bicycle inflater. This allowed me to slide the bottom of the stem over the muzzle loading nipple to discharge a stuck ball. It's very inexpensive and effective. A pressurized portable air tank with a tire hose line fitted with a control valve will do the same thing. 421468

  • Trailer Tire Size ST205/75R14 in Load Range D
For a Load Range D trailer tire sized 205/75R14 we have the part # AM10235. It does need 65 psi in the tires at all times which shouldn't be a problem for your wheel at all. There's a slim chance your valve stem wouldn't be able to handle the pressure but most trailer tire valve stems should have no problem. For example, our lowest rated valve stem part # AM20903 has a 65 psi limit. This fits through trailer wheel stem holes of .453 inch and part # AM20905 also is rated for 65 psi and...

  • Replacing Valve Stems to Increase PSI Rating of Rim to Equal Tire
The psi rating will be determined by either the tire or the valve stem of the wheels. If you upgrade your tires you can upgrade the valve stems to meet the necessary psi. We carry several options. Americana # AM20903 are rated up to 65 psi and # AM20904 are rated up to 80 psi. Or for heavier trailers we have # AM20907 rated up to 100 psi and # AM20906 rated over 100 psi which are metal.

  • Where Is the PSI Rating for a Trailer Wheel Located At On the Wheel
The pressure or psi rating of a trailer wheel will come from the valve stem. They do not really rate the wheel itself to a certain psi rating as the limiting factor will always be the valve stem. If you are running tires that required under 65 psi then you can use part # AM20903 but for anything over 65 psi you would want to use part # AM20906.

  • Can Rims for 205/75-14 Sized Tires Handle 65 PSI if Increasing to 215/75-14 Sized Tires
Most likely the 215/75 R14 tire will fit just fine. As long as the rim isn't a 5 inch rim. A 205/75 R14 tire can be on a rim as small as 5 inches but the larger tire can't go any smaller than 5-1/2. So measure the width of the rim from where the tire touches it and make sure it's wide enough. Chances are the rim can handle the 65 psi. It's actually the valve stem of the wheel that determines if it can handle the psi or not and most stems are rated to at least 65 psi. If yours isn't,...

  • Can I Determine the psi Rating of a Wheel
Since wheels will be able to withstand the psi rating of any of the tires that are meant to fit it you will need to look at the valve stem as that is the deciding factor. If your valve stem has the rubber all the way up to the threads, like part # AM20903, then it will be rated around 65 psi. If there is some reinforcement between the rubber and the threads, like part # AM20904 or # AM20907, then your valve stem can be rated between 80 and 100 psi. The only valve stems that are rated...

  • Trailer Tire Valve Stem Pressure Capacity for Changing to Load Range D Tires
The limiting factor in a wheel's pressure capacity is usually the valve stem. Some are rated only for 65-psi, # AM20903, while others such as # AM20904 are rated for 80-psi. Part # AM20907 handles up to 100-psi and part # AM20906 is good for tires needing over 100-psi pressure. Note different valve stems fit different size holes in the wheels. You will have no trouble moving up to a Load Range D tire on your 15 x 5-inch wheels so long as you also have the correct valve stem installed...

  • What Makes a Wheel Rated for Use on a Boat Trailer
The Steel Modular Trailer Wheel part # AM20365 has a white powder coated finish. It can still be used on a boat trailer but it will not hold up well in due time. Boat trailer wheels are frequently submerged in both fresh and saltwater applications which makes them much more prone to rust and corrosion.
