Konig's innovative design makes the CG9 snow chains quick and easy to attach and remove. Once the chain is looped around the tire and the three color-coded connections are made, the patented self-centering, automatic tensioning system takes over, creating a perfect fit as you drive away. You need to get out of the car only once. To remove the chains, simply unhook the connections and unwrap the chains from around the tire.

Konig snow chains are handmade in Italy of hardened manganese nickel alloy steel for ultimate durability. Features include dual-sided, 9-mm-diameter, D-shape links that provide superior traction for excellent grip on snow and ice. Anti-scratch nylon bumpers protect your vehicle's wheel rims.

Included with each pair of chains are mounting instructions, a kneeling mat and a pair of gloves, all packaged in a sturdy container. Konig's CG9 tire snow chains are backed by a 5-year warranty.

CG9 Installation

How to Install the CG9 Snow Chain

  1. Spread the chain around the back of the tire.
  2. Connect the plastic-covered, yellow and blue cable on the back side of the tire.
  3. Pull the chain over the top and around the tire. Connect the red hook to the red loop.
  4. Make the last connection by running the red loop through the buckle and then to the red hook attached to the tensioning cable.
  5. Simply drive forward to activate the patented self-centering, auto-tensioning system to ensure a perfect fit.

How to Choose Snow Chains for Your Vehicle

To choose the right snow chain, you must match your tire size. Those measurements can be found on the side of your tire, as shown below.

Tire size on sidewall

185/60-15

  1. (185) - indicates the width
  2. (60) - gives you the aspect ratio (sidewall height as percentage of width)
  3. (15) - denotes the diameter of the wheel rim in inches

Amazing service from etrailer, and the chains are exactly what was needed. Easy to install, and of high quality

We made sure to practice installing these when they first arrived....highly recommended because roadside installation can be stressful. Installation was pretty simple. They survived one part of a trip through snowy mountain conditions. The following morning, about one minute after talking about how great the chains worked....one broke. The connector on the back side of the tire broke off the chain rendering the entire chain useless. A five year warranty was more like a 24 hour warranty. Luckily, we were close to an auto parts store to get replacement chains that were actually easier to install. I had cleared all ice from the wheel well before trying to drive off so I have to think this was a defective chain. I'm just glad it got us to our destination before completely failing. Maybe we were just unlucky but I think this is a serious quality concern.

I swore off tire chains over 10y ago due to the hassle of installation, usually in blizzard conditions at night on the side of the road. Alas, the State of California sees fit to require them on mountain passes. So I find these and etrailer helps me out with fitment and other questions. The chains are, as advertised, are fairly easy to install (way easier than the cheapies at the local auto parts store). The self-tensioning system seemed to work but I may give a tug on them just to make sure they are taut as possible as I did get a fair bit of scuffing on my aluminum rims (from the parts that are plastic covered/coated to prevent scratching vibrating slightly against the rim). I think if the chain self-tensioned a bit tighter this may not have happened. Overall, a good product, seemed to work in a couple inches of snow, but not in 2 feet (duh) of white stuff! Vibration wasn't too bad on the dry patches of asphalt and the chains generally seemed to hold up well from the limited use I've given them. I would recommend them, just make sure they are taut enough to not tap against your rim.

The chains work well and have saved me several times. To me they are worth the money. They are a little tricky to put on the first time, and the instructions leave a lot to be desired- in their attempt to be global, there are no written instructions, only pictures which can be hard to interpret especially outside in on a cold night. I recommend watching a youtube video (I found several) and trying it before you get stuck. Once the chains are on, they work great. I got up a winding mountain road with no problem. One other thing Thule should do is wrap each chain in its own plastic bag within the case. When I took them out for the first time they were a tangled mess. Cons - Instructions, Tangled packaging. Pros- They worked, they saved my behind, they didn't do any damange to the tire or car.

2014 Toyota Camry

Two days from time of order to arrival. I ordered this set of chains for my wife's car, which will only be used for emergency-situation driving when we get a heavy snow in north Georgia. Sans emergency we stay home. The chain set is as advertised, and appears to be high quality. I watched the installation video at the time of selecting the product 2 days before arrival. Right after arrival I installed one of the chains from memory without any problems. Installation was very fast, ~ 2 minutes, for the first time. I have one minor reservation: The tensioning system has two plastic components, a bungie cord attached to a large PLASTIC hook, and this hook attaches to a mating PLASTIC ratcheting cable that connects to the tensioning chain. I realize these chains have a 5-year warranty, but said warranty does no good if the tensioning system fails during emergency driving.

Review from a similar CG9 in Tire Chains

Well, I would say a little harder to put on correctly than advertised, but I called customer support and they helped me. Also watching all of the videos helped because each one was worded a little differently. Definitely would suggest one or two dry runs before you are in the elements. Important to realize to slide the plastic coated cable to the backside of the tire and center the chains after connecting the plastic coated cable and the small red hook. Once I figured this out I was able to almost perfectly center the chains (at least on one tire). On the other tire I couldn't get it perfectly centered (see photos). After about an 1/8 of a mile of very low speed driving it still didn't center but maybe with more driving at higher speeds it would. Also important to remember to have the yellow end of the chain on your right hand side beofore sliding behind the tire and making the first connection. One question I still have is how tight to pull the tension cable after you put it through the stop device. Every video seems a little bit different as to how tight you pull the cable by hand before connecting it to the tensioning device. As far as taking them off I tried four times to line up my car perfectly so I wouldn't have to drive over the chains after disconnecting them but this was not possible for me. So, with the plastic coated cable on top I just disconnected the connections in reverse and then put all the hooks and components off to the side and drove off/over the chains, which seemed to work fine. Will see how they work in the snow and ice but I'm hopeful they will do well.

Review from a similar CG9 in Tire Chains

The Konig self-adjusting tire chains were used on 4 trips to the Sierra Nevada last year in R2 and R3 conditions from Jan-Apr. They installed very quickly and worked flawlessly each time. They have been used twice this season with the same results. They have saved time and worked well.

Comments
Chains have seen 2 more trips to the Sierras this year and still working great in snow and ice. Gets my ‘93 Eurovan up into the high country very nicely. Hoping for more snow and expect them to continue to perform. I do wonder how many seasons I’ll get out of them. It may be time to get another set.

We bought these to keep in our Subaru Outback. We already have snow tires but having these handy in case of an emergency or getting through chain checks is really helpful. This is our second set of Konig chains (we also have a set for our other car) and they've been durable and reliable. The shipping is also fast!

Overall I’m pleased with the service you provided with one exception. When I looked for chains for my Chevy Volt I thought I was being directed to the correct product but that was not the case. So I had to send the chains back at a cost of about twenty dollars. I do feel that it was your mistake not mine. If not for that you would certainly have received a five star rating.

Review from a similar CG9 in Tire Chains

I bought these chains for my daughter who is moving to Chicago from California. The owners manual of her Jeep Compass warns about the limited clearance and these chains were perfect because of their low profile. I also bought these particular chains (I now own 3 sets) for their ease of use. Snow is not something that any of my girls are used to being from California's Central Valley and putting chains on was not something that any of them had the faintest clue about. These chains are so easy to install that my wife and daughter were actually racing each other the other day to see who could install faster. My youngest daughter and wife are driving across county as I type this review carrying with them these Thule chains and I am confident that they and their Thules will handle any snow they encounter.

  • Do Konig Tire Chains TH00023100 Drape Over the Tires or Wrap Behind them when Installing
The only wrong way to put the Konig tire chains, such as # TH00023100, on the tires would be backwards or inside out. So long as the end result is the same (chains are installed and secured on the tires) the starting out method you choose really doesn't matter. In some cases you may not be able to easily run the chains around the tires like we show. So the bottom line is that it is situational. Try either method and use the one that works best for you.
