Note: To determine whether you can use snow chains on your vehicle, or if chains might affect your ABS/ESP functionality, consult your owner's manual.

These chains are great for giving you a little extra traction in the snow. But if you live somewhere where you experience heavy snow often, you'll definitely want something more heavy duty than cables. Because these cable chains are lightweight and don't take up a lot of storage space, they are also perfect for keeping in your trunk if you occasionally travel through areas that require you to have chains on hand.

Class S Designation

SAE Class S tire chains are designed for use on passenger vehicles with restricted wheel-well clearance. Most newer cars, vans, and small trucks - especially those with large aftermarket tires - will require Class S chains. If you're unsure about the class of your vehicle, consult your vehicle's owner's manual.

SAE Class S Clearance Diagram

These chains will fit your tires provided there is both:

  • A - a minimum of 1.46" (37 mm) between the top of the tire tread and the wheel well
  • B - at least 0.59" (15 mm) between the tire's sidewall and the vehicle

Confirming Your Fit

If you know your tire size, you may think you won't need to test fit your new cable chains. But there are a lot of variables that can affect whether chains will fit your specific tires, including your tire type, the amount of pressure in the tire, the amount of tread wear, and the tire manufacturer.

We recommend that you order chains as early in the season as possible to give yourself plenty of time to test fit the chains and reorder if needed. This way, you won't be stuck out in the cold later with snow cables that don't fit.

You can test fit these chains in your garage or driveway, but you'll want to wait until there's snow on the ground to actually drive with them. Likewise, if you're out in the snow and come across bare pavement, you'll want to pull over and remove the chains. Even these low-profile cables can cause damage to the bare pavement, your garage floor, or your vehicle if they break from the wear of riding on a harsh surface.

Installing Cable Chains

Installing cable chains is easy.

Lay chains on the ground to get all the tangles out

1. Lay out the chains on the ground to make sure there are no twists or kinks in the cables.

Cross cable connections have a smooth side that goes against the tire

2. Where each cross cable attaches, you'll notice there is a smooth side and one with an edge. Make sure the smooth side faces in to sit against your tire's sidewall as you drape the cables over your tire.

Feed the cable through the connection loop

3. On the front of the tire, feed the cable through the connection loop until it's tight, then feed the extra cable through the second loop to keep it from flapping as you drive. Repeat this on the backside of the tire.

Optional rubber adjusters ensure a tight fit

Rubber adjusters (sold separately) are recommended to help ensure a tight fit. Connect these to the front side of the cable in a star pattern. Make sure the hooks face away from your tire so your wheels don't get scratched.

Quick Tips:

  • Lengthen the life of snow chains by drying them after each use before you store them.
  • Check out our installation kit with safety lights and a kneeling pad (PO34FRK) to make things a little easier when you're installing cables out in the snow.

How to Choose Snow Chains for Your Vehicle

To choose the right snow chain, you must match your tire size. Those measurements can be found on the side of your tire.

Tire size on sidewall

185/60-15

  1. (185) - indicates tire width in millimeters
  2. (60) - gives you the aspect ratio (sidewall height as percentage of width)
  3. (15) - denotes the diameter of the wheel rim in inches

  • Are Roller of Glacier Tire Cables Replaceable
Hey Celeste, so the rollers on the tire cable kits we offer like the part # PW1026 that you referenced are not replaceable. These are generally considered to be one time use so if they start to break down it's time to replace them.

  • Snow Chain Recommendation for a 2014 Chevy Silverado 1500 with 20 inch Rims
The first thing you need to do is consult the owners manual of your 2014 Chevy Silverado 1500 to determine if there are restrictions on snow chain usage with your vehicle. For a chain confirmed to fit your P275/55R20 I would recommend the Titan Chain part # TC2533. These install easily and will last you a while.

  • Recommended Tire Cables for 185/65-15 Tires
The correct set of tire cables for the 185/65-15 tires that you have now is the Glacier Cable Snow Tire Chains part # PW1026. The Glacier Cable Snow Tire Chains part # PW1034 that you are referencing would not even fit on your tires as they are much too big. Trying to attach these cables to your tires would be an immediate risk to both you and others on the road. Unfortunately, the cables do not have the adjustability that chains do so it is not like you can take links out either.

We do have a large selection of tire chains available for your 2018 Hyundai Accent. In order to choose the correct size chains or cables, you will first need to locate the tire size on your vehicle. This will be located on the sidewall of the tire itself. I also recommend checking the owner's manual for your Hyundai Accent, as there will be specific guidelines and restrictions you will need to follow with regards to the use of tire chains. • Should Rusty Tire Cables be Replaced
If the cables are pretty rusty it's probably time for a new set. Snow cables like the Glacier part # PW1026 aren't designed to last forever and if yours have significant rust it's time to replace them before they fail on your vehicle and cause damage.

  • Are the Glacier Cable Snow Tire Chains Part # PW1026 Sold in Pairs
All of our tire chains and cables such as the Glacier Cable Snow Tire Chains part # PW1026 are sold in pairs (2 chains). As long as your 2007 Toyota Yaris has 185/60-15 tires then these cables will work well for you. If you instead have the 175/65-14 tires then you will want to use part # PW1018. The Glacier Rubber Adjusters part # PW100 are also recommended for either set. I have attached a review video of these cables for you as well.
