Dimensions of S-Hook

Note: Tie-down straps must be chosen according to their safe working load limit (WLL). The weight of the secured cargo must not exceed the combined WLL of the straps being used. For example, if you are using straps with a WLL of 500 lbs each to tie down a load weighing 1,000 lbs, then you need at least 2 straps to safely secure that load. It is recommended that you always use straps in pairs.

Ratchet Tie-Down Straps with S-Hooks

Securing your cargo is easy with these ratcheting tie-down straps. Extra-wide handles make it easy to ratchet the straps to tighten them down and maintain tension. Quick-release buttons on the ratchets allow you to quickly and easily release the tension on the straps for unloading.

S-Hook with Wire Keeper

Each strap has 1 solid S-hook on one end and 1 S-hook with a built-in wire keeper on the other end. This wire keeper keeps the hook from accidentally disconnecting so that 1 person can safely and easily secure each strap in place.

Hook and Loop Straps

Hook and Loop Straps

Hook and loop straps secure any excess webbing in place to keep it from flapping around while you drive.

Durable Storage Bag

Detail of Bag with Ball Mount

Video Transcript for Review of etrailer Ratchet Straps - Standard Strap - ETBMB-05852

Ellen: Hey everyone, I'm Ellen here at etrailer.com, and today we're taking a look at the ratchet tie-down straps with storage bag. So this is going to come with that storage bag. It's going to be waterproof, or water-resistant and we'll have our four ratchet tie-down straps to get any of our cargo or any of our items secured. So if you're securing a motorcycle in the back of your truck, or maybe putting it onto a flat bed trailer, hauling any kind of items, maybe securing a kayak or a canoe to the top of your vehicle, maybe on a ladder rack, any kind of application like that, these are going to be a great option. The thing that I really like about these is that they are ratcheting. We have a little strap keeper here on one end of our strap to keep down the excess, and then these are going to ratchet nice and easily so that you can get those cinched down in place. The other cool thing about these is that not only do they have the S-style hooks with that vinyl coating, but they also have a little keeper to help prevent any kind of slippage so you don't have to worry about these slipping out of place, especially whenever you're getting them installed.

You can just put them through a spot or a tie-down point on your cargo carrier, or maybe through the in-bed tow rings or those little strap keeper rings in the side of your truck bed and it should be good to go. So whenever you're getting this cinched down, you don't have to worry about it falling out of place. Now it does back out enough, so if you need to put it around something thicker like a railing or anything like that, it will also allow that. So it doesn't have to fit through just a little small hole, it can work with a lot of different sizes of tie-down points out there. The ratchet handle is pretty nice and oversize. It's a bigger style, so you can get a pretty good hand on there to ratchet that down.

Each of our straps is going to measure 12 feet long, and the width is an inch and a quarter wide. Whenever it comes to our hook, this inside portion is just an inch wide so that eye there, the inside measurement is an inch. Then front to back, it's about two inches inside our hook, the throat or the opening is about an inch and a quarter. Then this space here is about an inch and an eighth. The total length on our hook from outside edge to outside edge is about four and a half inches, maybe closer to four and five eighths.

Then our ratcheting handle, outside edge to outside edge, it's about three inches wide. The inside is about two inches, and then we'll have about an inch and a quarter of space going this way.So, pretty easy to ratchet down as you saw before. To release the slack out of this, there's this smaller handle inside, so you'll pull that up, open it all the way out, and then you can pull the hook on that to get it loosened up again. So pretty simple, pretty easy. Whenever it's folded all the way down, it's locked into place so it's not going to come up unless you really press on it to get that out.

Now whenever you're ratcheting this down and you're tightening it, you want to make sure that you get a couple turns of that fabric around that cylinder, since it's going to bind against the fabric itself. And that's kind of what holds it into place. So whenever you're ratcheting it, make sure that you do get a good two or three turns on that drum. And you don't want to have too much because, then it's going to bind up the mechanism. But just keep that in mind that that's how it really holds it in place is by pulling against that webbing fabric. Now this is going to be a nice webbing that's going to be heavy-duty polyethylene, so it's going to be durable and resistant to any kind of abrasions or impacts. Especially if you're pulling this over a longer area, it's a good idea to put a half turn or a full turn in that strap so that it looks something like that. And that helps to keep the vibration to a minimum so that it does it catch the wind and vibrate really fast back and forth. Because if it does that, it can actually tear the fabric, because it'll just be vibrating so quickly, especially against a sharp edge or anything like that, it'll actually saw through the fabric. So by putting a turn or a half turn in that strap, it'll keep it from vibrating and it'll make sure that your strap not only stays intact, but it'll also make it last for a lot longer. So that's one little piece of advice there. Now our bag is pretty cool. Again, water-resistant fabric. It feels kind of like a vinyl coated material, has this nice bright yellow color, so it's hard to miss. Our straps are also highly visible orange, so I think they'll do a great job for us for just about anything we'd want to use them for. Now again, 12 feet long, inch and a quarter wide. The safe working load limit for each strap is 830 pounds. Now whenever you use them in conjunction, that is going to increase your weight carrying capacity. So if you're using two of these to strap down anything, you'd have 830 times two, which would be 1,660, and so on and so forth. So depending on what you're strapping down, if you're using all four on the same item, you would get that 830 times four, so keep that in mind. You want to make sure though that you're below that safe working load limit, just so that you're not maxing out these straps and you're not going to have any kind of accidental failures or anything like that. The maximum load or the brake strength is 2,500 pounds, but again you want to go over that safe working load limit, because that's going to be the number to stay below. As far as the bag size, it's about. Let me just get my ruler on here so you can actually see it. It's about 18 inches long, and then about six inches wide. If we go from the base here where it's actually sewn in, it's about six and a half inches. Of course it does flex a little bit. And then it'll be about five and a half inches tall. So even if you want to throw your straps in here, you should have plenty of room. Going to just bundle this up and throw this into our bag. This helps so you that don't have to worry about being as careful with rolling up your straps, because no one really likes to sit there and wind four straps of 12 foot fabric. So it helps to keep everything together, keep everything nice and neat, and that way you don't have to go searching for one end or the other of your strap. So it looks pretty nice. We'll have our two little handles there to make it easy to carry. Still plenty of room in there if you want to throw in more straps or bungees or anything else that you might have. This does come with a one year warranty on the straps, and that's going to do it for a look at the ratchet tie-down straps with storage bag.

  • The Rola rooftop cargo basket # 59504-EXT can use Rola Cargo Net # 59200 but please do keep in mind that the size and shape of the loaded items can affect your best choice of net or tie-down straps. It really comes down to the specific size, shape and weight of the items you'll place in the basket. You may prefer to use some tie-down straps like 4-piece set # ETBMB-05852 or # EM34420 if the items are large enough to catch a lot of wind. At highway speeds solidly securing the items is...

If you need further information on this then you will want to take a look at page 5-91 of your owner's manual. If you do not already have a trailer hitch I recommend using the Draw-Tite Sportframe Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 24903 (22 lbs) because you do not need to remove any underbody panels...

With this in mind it won't be compatible if you have the Full Rail Kit # RR43180B installed, as the rails will prevent it from being properly attached.
