Thule Tie Down Straps - TH521

Features:

  • Cinching tie-downs let you secure a variety of items to your cargo carrier or roof rack
    • Perfect for kayaks, canoes, surfboards, and other gear
  • Included protectors surround buckles with padding to help prevent scratches on your vehicle and your cargo
  • Cam-lock buckles hold straps tight over your gear
    • Plain end of strap feeds through buckle so that you can cinch strap around your cargo
  • Chromate-plated steel resists corrosion
  • Durable polypropylene webbing
  • Made in the USA

Specs:

  • Strap length: 9'
  • Safe working load limit (WLL): 750 lbs when strap is looped
  • Maximum load (break strength): 1,125 lbs when strap is looped
  • Quantity: 2 cinch straps
  • Limited lifetime warranty

Note: Tie-down straps must be chosen according to their safe working load limit (WLL). The weight of the secured cargo must not exceed the combined WLL of the straps being used. For example, if you are using straps with a WLL of 500 lbs each to tie down a load weighing 1,000 lbs, then you need at least 2 straps to safely secure that load. It is recommended that you always use straps in pairs.

Video Transcript for Thule Tie Down Straps - Truck Bed - TH521 Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at part number TH521. These are the Thule Load Strap Cinch Straps with padded cam buckles. The tie downs are going to let you secure a variety of items to your cargo carrier or your roof rack. It's going to be perfect for kayaks, canoes, surfboards, and a lot of other gear as well. It's going to have the included protectors that surround the buckles with a rubber padding. That's going to help prevent scratches on your vehicle and your gear.

On this end of the strap you're going to have a looped end with a cam buckle attached. That's going to hold the strap tight over your gear, so all you have to do is place the plain end of the strap through the buckle and then basically, just pull it tight until you feel like your load is secure. Before you do that though, you want to make sure that you get the protector on there. Very easy to do. All you've got to do is place the strap through. You're going to want to run it all the way to the buckle.

Once you have it close, now we're able to go ahead and place the plain end of the strap through here and then we would be able to tighten it over our gear. It's going to have some really nice teeth in there. That's going to grab onto the strap, making sure that it doesn't come back or reverse out of the buckle. We definitely don't want a strap that's going to loosen up during travel over our gear and potentially have our gear come off of our roof or our roof rack, so it's got those really nice teeth that really hold on to the strap. If you do need to release it, you just push on the lever and it's going to allow the strap to move freely inside the cam buckle. Once you have this cinched down and tight over your gear, you simply just take the rubber protector, slide it up over the buckle and that way it's going to protect your gear.

It's going to protect your vehicle from any scratches or anything that that exposed buckle may cause. The cam buckle is going to have a chromate-plated steel, so it's going to have that chromate-plated finish on it, so it's going to resist rust and corrosion. The strap itself is made from a durable polypropylene material, very strong and durable, and these products are going to be made in the USA. Your strap length is going to measure about 9' long. The width is going to be 1".

It's got the nice yellow Thule logo that goes all the way the length of the strap. These are going to have a safe working load limit of 750 lbs when the strap is looped and a maximum load or break strength of 1125 lbs when the strap is looped. You're going to get 2 cinch straps with this part number and Thule is going to cover them with a limited lifetime warranty. Just keep in mind that tie down straps must be chosen according to their safe working load limit, so you want to make sure that the weight of your secured cargo does not exceed the combined working load limit of the straps being used. That's going to do it for our review of part number TH521. These are the Thule Load Straps Cinch Straps. .

I presently use one of these Thule load straps, which I owned, to secure one bike to my bike rack. I shortened it and burned the end to keep it from fraying. The product is very good; very strong, durable and the buckle easy to use. That is why I ordered more of these Thule straps; I considered straps from Home depot and other places but they didn't quite fit my need. I will modify one of the new Thule straps and use it to secure a second bike. 104185

Somehow managed to lose a set of these and after a few weeks of using my backup set (12 ft with no covering on the metal buckles) decided to replace them. The main reason is to protect the car when throwing the strap and buckle around... Also ordered a spare set of buckle protectors, which ends up being all I really needed - they fit on the other set of tie-down straps. 78443

Nicely made straps and easy to use. Perfect for tying a canoe or kayak to the top of your car or any other strapping needs you have. Rubber end caps are nice so the buckles do not scratch the paint on your vehicle. I'm using on a Toyota Highlander to hold down a canoe. Perfect strap for this application. 37478

  • Adding Security to Carry Long Paddle Board on Honda Fit
  • That does look pretty iffy in regards to traveling at high speeds on the interstate and there is one thing you can do that I recommend, and that's add a trailer hitch and load extender. You did not mention what year your Honda Fit was but since load extenders require a 2 inch hitch, if your Honda Fit is a model year 2009 to 2014 you need the EcoHitch Hidden Trailer Hitch Receiver # 306-X7286 or if you have a 2015 to 2017 Honda Fit you will need the EcoHitch Hidden Trailer Hitch Receiver...

  • Basically the Eye Bolt Tie-Down Kit # 59796 is larger so you would be able to attach a larger hook or rope to it compared to Tie-Down Loops # 59795. If it were me I would go with the larger set, # 59796, in case the larger size was ever needed. A strap kit such as # TH521 can be used to secure a kayak to the tie-down kit.
