Medium Duty Trailer Tie Down Lashing Ring

  • Steel with a zinc finish
  • Capacity: 5,000 lbs
  • Safe Working Load Limit: 1,600 lbs
  • Diameter of mounting holes: 7/16" x 7/16"

Note: Tie-down anchors must be chosen according to their safe working load limit (WLL). The weight of the secured cargo must not exceed the combined WLL of the anchors being used. For example, if you are using anchors with a WLL of 100 lbs each to tie down a load weighing 400 lbs, then you need at least 4 anchors to safely secure that load. It is recommended that you always use anchors in pairs.

Video Transcript for Checking Out the Brophy D-Ring Tie Down Anchor

Today we will be taking a look at the Brophy trailer bolt-on D-ring tie down, part number SR15-C. The Brophy D-ring can be a great solution for adding an additional anchor point to your trailer or truck bed. It's made out of a strong steel construction with a zinc finish so it's going to resist rust and corrosion. It's got a 5,000 pound weight capacity and it's got a 1,600 pound safe working load limit. The diameter of the mounting holes is 7/16ths of an inch and the distance between the two holes is going to be 2-1/4 inches. The entire base measures 3-1/2 inches long and it's going to be 1-3/16ths wide. The D-ring itself is a nice 3/8ths of an inch thick and it's going to be 2-1/4 inches long. Now that we've gone over some of the features let's go ahead and show you how to install it.

We've got our generator on our trailer here today and we just want to tie it down. We've got a D-ring on this side of our trailer. What we was is our Brophy ring as an additional anchor point. I'm going to go ahead and place it right here as my desired location and then I'm going to mark those holes out. Once we've got those marked out go ahead and remove the D-ring, that way we can drill those out.

Then we will grab our D-ring. We are going to place it over our holes to make sure everything is all lined up. You will need to provide your own hardware. We are just going to use these two bolts here today, along with two nuts, and two washers. We will go ahead and place those through, then I'm going to go underneath and put the nut and washer in place.

I'm going to go ahead and take the nuts and washers and hand tighten them down. Once I get them both in place I'm going to have a buddy go up there and ratchet them down while I hold them in place. That's going to do it. Now with our D-ring in place the only thing left to do it to put it to good use. Take our strap, run it through, and tighten that down. All right.

We are all set to do. That's going to complete our look at the Brophy trailer bolt-on D-ring tie down, part number SR15-C. .

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch for a 2009 Nash 21-5R 5th Wheel Trailer
For your 2009 Nash 21-5R 5th Wheel Trailer, I recommend using the Adjustable Width Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 13703 which fits trailers that have frame rails spaced between 22" - 72" apart. This hitch has a Class III rating with a 2" receiver tube opening which allows for up to a 3,500 lb gross trailer weight (GTW) and a 350 tongue weight (GTW). If you will be using the hitch for any non-towing applications like a bike rack then you will also need to use the support strap part # 18050...

  • Availability of D-Ring Trailer Cargo Control Tie Downs
We offer D-ring tie downs like the bolt-on Brophy # SR15-C and the weld-on Curt # J-705 that can be seen on the linked page. For one close to your measurements you might consider the Brophy # LRB1 which is also a bolt-on part whose dimensions are shown in the linked photo.

  • Installing D-Ring Surface Mount Tie-Down Anchors on a Aluminum Snowmobile Trailer
The Brophy D-Ring Tie Down Anchor - Bolt-On - 3-1/2" Wide - Surface Mount - 1,600 lbs # SR15-C are steel anchors with a zinc finish. Although the zinc finish will help avoid galvanic corrosion from dissimilar metals, the connection by drilling into the aluminum frame is not the best option. It is true the frame will typically be a stronger connection point than the wood deck, but in this case the wood is a better option when secured close to the frame yet not touching it. A good option...

  • Could Brophy D-Ring Tie Down Anchor # SR15-C Attach to Wood Floor
The Brophy D-Ring Tie Down Anchor # SR15-C that you referenced can attach to wood and can be used to secure a car as it has plenty of capacity at 1,600 lbs. Now whether or not it will work well attached directly to wood is not something I can really say since wood doesn't have the same capacity as metal. You'd have to consider the type and dimensions of the wood your trailer has and how many of these anchors you'd be using.

  • Should Brophy D-Rings be Installed on a Metal Trailer Frame or Through the Wood Floor
The most secure place to install the trailer D-Ring # SR15-C is going to be the main frame structure of the trailer. If you choose to mount the D-Rings on the wood floor of the trailer I recommend placing a metal backing plate on the underside of the trailer for each D-Ring. This will disperse the force applied (when the rings are in use) to a wider area of the floor so less stress is on it. There isn't a specific backing plate for this D-Ring but a 1/8 or 1-1/16 inch thick 5x5 inch piece...

  • Recommended Support Plate for the Brophy D-Ring Tie Down # SR15-C
What you have heard is correct, you do not want to mount tie downs to the wood floor of a trailer without any type of reinforcement. The tie down will only be as strong as the weakest component and the wood floor of a trailer would be the weakest component. I spoke with my contact at Brophy and she told me that they do not have a recommended backing plate that will work with this tie-down, but if I were installing this on my trailer, I would use something larger than 1-1/2 inch washers....

  • Can Brophy D-Ring Tie Down Anchor Mount on Aluminum Trailer Frame
Physically yes, the Brophy D-Ring Tie Down Anchor - Bolt-On - 3-1/2" Wide - Surface Mount - 1,600 lbs # SR15-C can be mounted onto your aluminum trailer frame. However, if you are going to do this you need to check with the trailer manufacturer to ensure that the frame is rated to hold up to what you are planning to use the D-rings for. You may also find that bolting these onto the trailer frame would void the warranty on your trailer.

  • Where do I Install D-Ring Tie Downs on a 6x10 Wood Bed Utility Trailer
You can attach D-Ring Tie Downs most anywhere on a trailer. You need to select the location based upon what you need to tie-down. When possible, it would be best to drill through metal to install the rings. You can mount them to the wood planks, but they will not be able to bear as much weight. Over time as the wood rots, you can end up with the rings pulling out of the wood. Whenever possible, going through the metal frame of the trailer or using a steel backing plate would be the best...

  • Recommendations to Tie Down Various Vehicles on Car Hauler
To secure vehicles in your 16 foot car hauler, I recommend using the Erickson Adjustable Ratcheting Wheel Net w/ Hooks # EM58522. These will fit 14 inch to 29 inch tires and includes 2 inch cam buckles to allow the webbing to be shortened or legnthened. These have an individual safe working load limit of 3,333 pounds - so when used on all four tires, they will have more than enough capacity for the maximum 5,000 pound car you are hauling. You can then install the Brophy D-Ring Tie Down...

  • What Size Carriage Bolt Works With Brophy Trailer D-Ring Tie Down
When installing the Brophy Trailer D-Ring Tie Down, part # SR15-C, you will need a 3/8 inch carriage bolt. The square underside of the carriage bolt will fit inside the mounting holes of the tie down. I have attached a photo of the SR15-C with the dimensions noted.

  • Type of Fastener Needed to Install Brophy Trailer D-Ring Tie Down # SR15-C on Wood Trailer Deck
The Brophy Trailer D-Ring Tie Down # SR15-C has a 7/16-inch square opening for the shank of a carriage bolt. This would be the ideal installation method but you certainly could substitute a different type of fastener, say a 2-inch wood screw, if you think that would be adequate for your load requirements. The full 5000-lb break-strength rating of this tie-down would require carriage bolts.

  • How to Secure a Vehicle on an 8 X 18-foot Wooden Deck Car Hauler Trailer
To secure your vehicle on the wood deck of your 8 X 18-foot car hauler trailer I suggest you consider straps rather than chains. Straps offer lighter weight, reduced chance for scratching the vehicle and are often easier to use than chains. They also will not corrode like chains. The Dutton-Lainson 40-inch cables you referenced are intended for use with tow bars for flat-towed vehicles. We have better options for you. For example, we offer the Erickson Car Tie Down, part # 58503. It can...

  • Can Brophy D-Ring Surface Mount Tie Down Anchor be Used on Wood?
Since space is tight on your trailer, I recommend using the surface-mount Brophy D-Ring Tie Down Anchors, # SR15-C for a ring with a safe working load limit (WLL) of 1,600 lbs or # LRB1 for a ring with a safe WLL of 4,000 lbs. These will save you plenty of space and can bolt right through the wood floor of your trailer, as you can see in the photos I've added. I've also attached some review videos of these D-Rings for you to take a look at.

  • E-Track and D-Ring Recommendation for Securing Cargo in Enclosed Trailer
I'd install e-track on the walls of the trailer so that you could use e-track tie down anchors like part # 59131 and/or e-track ratchet straps like part # EM59136. The e-tracks give you tons of flexibility in how to strap everything down since the anchors can easily be moved as needed. For e-track then you can use the Vertical E-Track # E19146 mounted throughout your trailer using self-tapping screws. I attached an install video on how to install the tracks as well.

  • Can the Brophy D-Ring Tie Down Anchor Mount to Wall Support of Trailer
It is possible to install the Brophy D-Ring Tie Down Anchor # SR15-C that you referenced to one of the wooden wall supports shown in the photo you attached. To install # SR15-C you will want to use the longest, largest size wood screws possible for installation. If you don't already have wood screws that will work, they can be found at your local hardware store. If you wanted to drill a hole all the way through the wall, you could use bolts and nuts to secure the tie down. Installing...

  • Is Hardware Included in the Brophy Trailer D-Ring Tie Down # SR15-C
The Brophy Trailer D-Ring Tie Down, part # SR15-C, does not include any mounting bolts. I went out in the warehouse and measured the size of the holes for mounting and they measured 7/16 inch x 7/16 inch. So you will want to use something smaller than 7/16 inch.

  • Is There a Thickness Requirement for Installing Brophy D-Ring Tie Down Anchors SR15-C
The Brophy D-Ring Tie Down Anchor # SR15-C that you referenced does not have a thickness recommendation for attaching to a steel floor. Basically any steel that would be thick enough to work as a trailer floor would be adequate.

  • Availability of Weld-On D-Ring Tie Downs for Installation on Aluminum Trailer
We do offer many weld-on D-ring tie-downs for cargo control on trailers. These are shown on the linked page. All of these items are made of steel, not aluminum. It is not easy to weld steel and aluminum (due to the two metals' different melting points) but a skilled professional welder should be able to do it. • Options for Carrying a 600 lb Scooter Behind an RV
Since the trailer hitch on your RV has a towing capacity of 5,000 lbs, it is safe to assume that it has a 500 lb tongue weight. I would not recommend carrying your scooter with a hitch mounted carrier on your RV. In fact, most hitch mounted motorcycle/scooter carriers are not recommended for use on motor homes or RVs because the trailer hitch is further away from the rear...
