Video Transcript for Pilot Truck Tailgate Net Review

Hey, everybody. Welcome to etrailer.com. I'm Bobby. And today we're taking a look at the truck bed net here at etrailer. Now you guys, this is going to be an awesome way, if you guys are looking to cut down a little bit of wind drag, or maybe you need to account for a little bit of a fifth wheel setup or anything like that. Now what's going to be awesome about this guy, you can see here today.

It is on a full size truck. It also comes in a compact size. So they are kind of universal, which is great. Now the installation of this guy is really straightforward and simple, which is awesome. It's gonna be really easy to take this on and off as well.

And honestly, it is going to be only designed to reduce that wind drag and just kind of account for some of those fifth wheel gooseneck, hitches, that sort of thing. So you don't really have too much security with this guy. It's not designed at all to actually keep in cargo or passengers as the brackets that you're installing aren't really that heavy duty. Um so if you did have a really heavyweight hit here and slam against it, it could fail on you. So I think that's why they kind of say, it's not really designed for that, but honestly, as you guys can see, you're gonna have no trouble cutting down that wind drag.

We have a lot of holes here. Now the industrial grade on this is very nice. It doesn't feel like it's going to be falling apart anytime soon. And uh yeah, definitely seems like it's going to be holding up for the years to come, which is great. So if you are someone that drives around a lot of times with open beds, such as this, you want to go ahead, save a little bit of that fuel economy, this can be a great way to do so.

Or like we said, if you have a fifth wheel kind of hitch set up, or gooseneck, this is going to be a great way to go ahead and not damage that tailgate. Like I said it is a universal fit, so let's go ahead and see how we get it installed. Now before your installation, you want to go ahead and remove your tailgate. Now, we haven't shown you that guys here today because it is going to vary from truck to truck. So please refer to your vehicle's owner's manual guide to see how you can get it off. Usually, it's just popping off some tethers and finding the right angle to lift it out. All right guys, to get this installed, regardless if you're using the compact or full size net is going to be the same thing. And all we're simply doing is actually putting these brackets on the side of our truck. Now, how we go about doing that is going to be a little bit up to us, but the one thing I will suggest for you guys, go ahead and do yourself a favor. Grab yourself some self tapping screws like we have here today. Now there are some available here at etrailer.com if you guys want. Basically this is really going to save you the headache that we had today As you guys can see, they say that they're self tapping screws, but they're basically just screws here. And you guys can see, we had a little bit of an issue later- uh earlier on getting ours installed. So, on the other side, I highly recommend grabbing yourselves a uh self tapping screw. That way, it's gonna make this way easier for yourself. But you will need to go ahead and grab yourself a drill bit as well, just to start a pilot hole. And all you want to do is simply line up your bracket here to the very top, most portion. Now you can set this a little bit up to your own specifications for where you want this mounted. I'm simply beginning as high as I can, and a little bit further away as we are on quite a large vehicle here today. So all I'm going to do guys is line up my bracket here and just give myself a little bit of a scratch that way I know where I want to drill and grab my drill bit. I just want to start myself a small hole to assist my self tappers. I might suggest a little eye protection as there is metal shavings, but now we can go ahead and start adding on our brackets. With our hole pre-drilled we can go ahead and align our self tappers. And as we start getting closer here, I just simply want to align my bracket facing towards the inside of my bed, and cinch it up. So you're going to need to repeat that process for all of your brackets, an easy way to tick where you went from your middle. is just go from that top one and go about nine and a half inches to your center of that middle bracket attachment. And then go ahead and just add your third one pretty much near the base of your bed. Now all that's left to do is to go ahead and run our straps through our bracket. You simply take it, pull it tight and taunt, and then run it through our cam buckle. And repeat that process for the rest of your brackets. Now that everything's tightened down, you're ready to hit the road. One nice thing I really like about this, depending on how you set it up, you can actually go ahead and reinstall your tailgate. What's great about that, of course, right, we can go ahead and have our tailgate up for when we need to move some of our cargo. And when we have an open bed, we go ahead and drop it down, start saving on some of that gas mileage. Well guys, hopefully you can see this is going to be very helpful going ahead, cutting down a little bit on that gas mileage. And like I said, really making sure that we're not damaging our tailgate for any of those kinds of hitch setups. So it's going to be great overall guys. I think it's going to be a great little way of just giving yourself a nice little tailgate net to go ahead and protect some of those smaller items. And of course, like we said, have all those nice advantages. Well guys I think that about does it for our look at the truck bed net here at etrailer.com. I'm Bobby. Thank you for watching..

Was a gift for a friend. He installed and loves it so far.

by:

It's great when used properly. However it's hard to disconnect and reconnect with the hardware that currently comes with the cargo net. It would be an even greater item if the hardware was able to be removed from the truck bed easily.

by:
2011 Ford Ranger

Delivery was too long, and screws not strong enough. But at the end it's fit to my Ford ranger XL 2011 .

by:
2002 Chevrolet S-10 Pickup

Over all looks great, the screws that come with are garbage, I recommend buying self tappers roughly 9/16 head bout half in long, I even pre drilled for the screws that it came with but over all happy with it

by:
2017 Nissan Frontier

It is not plug and play. You have to drill 6 holes to hold the their hooks, then the screws could not be used since it is a double wall and impossible to screw into it, I had to buy nuts and bolts. The holes to drill is sometimes on a welding point. It would be great if they could provide a metal bracket that can be screwed to the 2 existing Nissan screws. AS it is, I had to spend time finding tools and drill 6 holes, and then it is almost impossible to keep the net tight since the net's locking mechanism is not simple and needed to loop back. SO it looks sloppy, and I had to buy paint to paint the drilled holes before it rusted in the rain....

Just a tad more install than i wanted to do. I hope the plastic type material holds up

Product does not fit. It was a small and did not fit my 01 ranger. My ranger has the rear fenders flared bubble. I have 47” opening at tailgate. Your web gate is 50”.i returned it for a refund.

The flared bubble fenders you referred to means that your Ranger has a stepside bed. Unfortunately, this product is not a fit for a stepside bed, as stated in the fit information.

by:
1995 Toyota Tacoma

Great price for a great product. Took less than 20 minutes to install and will act as a great barrier to keep items from sliding out of your truck bed. I recommend this product.

  • Will Kuat Trio Roof Bike Rack Fit Factory Crossbars Of 2012 Subaru Outback Wagon
You can take a quick measurement of your Outback roof rack crossbars to make sure the Kuat Trio, part # TR02 will work for you. The Trio will work with crossbars that have a maximum measurement of 3-1/2 inches wide and 1-11/16 inches tall and the center-to-center crossbar spread can be from 19-5/8 inches to 50-3/16 inches. The carrier weighs 7-lbs and has a weight capacity of 45-lbs.

You can refer to the linked video on this item to see these brackets and an installation on a 1986 Chevy C/K series pickup. The maximum crossbar dimensions that the Kuat Trio part # TR02 will fit is 3-1/2" wide x 1-11/16" tall. If your crossbars are thicker than that the best solution I can come up with would be to go with an aftermarket rack, but without knowing what vehicle you have it would be hard for me to pick out the correct rack.
