Rob - 06/26/2022This tailgate assist was supposed to have fit my 2020 Ram 1500 Bighorn, but incorrect hardware came with the package. As a result, I haven't been able to fully install yet because the correct parts were not included. To start with, there was no Locktite as pictured. Secondly the lower plate with the lower ball stud that mounts to the actual tailgate won't work because there are two factory bolts in the way. The Nutsert did work, but there was no ball stud to install so that I could connect the lower end of the shock. I have ordered a 10mm and a 13mm ball stud, and hopefully one of the two of them will work. Once they arrive I will be able to fully install this tailgate assist. I might update this review once the correct hardware arrives that I had to pay for... or I might not. We'll see.

On Installation:
the nut assembly, for the tailgate empty
hole insertion, may need just a tap w/a
hammer to enter the hole; I know I had
to tap it.
Finally, I hope the spring clips in the ball
joint of the pump hold up under regular
use... time will tell.
Also, the clear protective mylar?
If, it's the 3x5 piece of paper I found in
item box; I couldn't peel it.

The first time I went to open the tail gate I had forgotten it was there and was so very happy with it's working so well. I now show it off to everyone when they are around. Such a very good idea and product!
I love how easy the installation went ! The easy down feature is something I wish the manufacturer would have had as a feature but thankfully this product is out and works absolutely perfect. I also bought the tailgate lock and that was super easy to install as well and provides peace of mind . Even though the tailgate locks when truck is locked up it is nice to know that if I forget to lock the truck up my gate is still safe from thieves . Great products all the way around ! Thanks !

John - 08/11/2015Fast shipping . Works great . The only trouble I had was getting the nutsert to not spin . Used the hints from the instructions and use masking tape to stop the spinning and that didn't work so I used duct tape and thread locker and that stopped the spinning and install worked out . I had my wife try the gate and it was a hit even though it will be the only time she will use it probably . Thanks E-trailer I have purchased plenty of things from you and will again .
The assist worked great, but on a durability standpoint , Deezee should make a right hand one to better take the load and stresses being put on the tailgate. The square plate in the kit is the only piece that needs to be flipped. Even selling the kit with both left and right plates would be simple and give customers a choice. I would buy one in a heart beat.

I love it… It’s a simple, cheap, useful mod that keeps paying dividends to my spine
First, the product works great. So much easier to lift and lower the tailgate on my RAM 1500. Second, the instructions should emphasize that increased pressure is required pushing on the nutsert so the nutsert doesn't turn while tightening the 10mm nut. I initially tightened the nut 9 turns as instructed but the insert came out. By applying increased pressure on the allen screw the insert stopped rotating and started compressing as designed. Third, the T45 Torx wrench didn't fit the torx screws on my truck. I used my own T45 torx wrench to remove the screws. Fourth, thread lock should be applied to the cable mount screw on the tailgate prior to reinstalling. Lastly, wrap tape (electrical) around the jaws of your pliers prior to installing the cable clip to prevent scarring on cable rubber sheath.

I had trouble figuring out which item number I needed for my 2012 dodge ram 2500 so I emailed etrailer and sent me an email back showing the correct part and a short video of an employee talking to me about his research on the product. The part works good. Wish it had a slower drop but I'm sure it doesn't help that I have a little extra weight with spray in bed liner and a tailgate mat on top of it. The only issue I had was with the nutsert. That part is a little tricky for sure. Just remember to start counting 9 turns once u feel the nutsert itself tightening in the whole on ur tailgate. At least that's wat helped me figure it out.

Jenny N - 06/22/2022Received the unit and did not believe this little tiny shock would aid in the up and down motion of the very heavy tailgate. Well, guess what, it works like a champ. My wife can now open and close the gate w/o any problem. I can now open and close with one hand. I am in a wheelchair, so things can get a little difficult at times. this tailgate assist is a god sent for me. It is small, out of the way, and extremely easy to install. The installation was easy and quick-fifteen minutes. I would highly recommend this unit to anyone with a heavy tailgate.
