When you apply the brakes in your tow vehicle, deceleration occurs and momentum pushes your trailer toward the rear of your vehicle. With surge brake systems, the actuator is triggered as your trailer moves forward while the tow vehicle slows. The actuator telescopes, applying force to its master cylinder, which in turn supplies the necessary hydraulic pressure to engage the trailer's brakes.

Electric reverse lockout with solenoid is automatically activated when the tow vehicle is shifted into reverse. To use this feature, you must have a 5-pole flat, 6-way round or 7-pole wiring harness.

Video Transcript for Titan Brake Actuator - Surge Brake Actuator - T4750720 Review

Today we're going to take a look at the Titan Bolt On Disc Brake Actuator for a 2-5/16 ball. It has a drop, includes the electric lockout and has a 20,000 pound weight capacity. This hydraulic actuator will synchronize your trailer brakes with your tow vehicle brakes. Basically, what happens is when you apply the brakes in your tow vehicle, deceleration occurs and the momentum will push your trailer toward the rear of your vehicle, so with the surge brake systems this actuator is triggered as your trailer moves forward, while the tow vehicle slows. This actuator will telescope, applies force to the master cylinder underneath, right in here and this in turn supplies the necessary hydraulic pressure you engage your trailer brakes. This one uses a unique roller design, if you can see the two rollers up here and two down here. This will help reduce resistance during the telescoping and create a nice straight lined movement.

If you notice, they do have grease Zerk fittings on each one for lubrication. This actuator does include the electric, reverse lockout which is a solenoid valve here that's mounted on the back of the master cylinder. This will let you back up without actuating your trailer brakes, and they have a build in shield you can see over it, which will protect that solenoid valve from any of the elements or from any damage. The solenoid valve does have two wires that you're going to need to connect to get it to actuate. This is a sturdy, durable steel construction which will resist bending in any jackknife situations. It has a standard, heavy-duty coupler. If you notice, it does have the built in three inch drop to it.

It is a zinc plating which provides corrosion resistance. It does include the breakaway kit. You can see here if I just unhook this chain. Basically, what the breakaway kit would be. You can see that this chain and it's connected to this lever, so basically, what you would do with this, it's a safety feature, you take this s-hook and you connect it to your tow vehicle.

In a situation if you ever have your trailer would detach from your tow vehicle, with this connected, it would pull this chain, which would activate the lever. That would activate the master cylinder which would apply brakes to the runaway trailer. This is a bolt on installation. You can see the holes on this side and over here. It's designed to bolt on to your trailer tongue. The application, again, this is for trailers with disc brakes.

Again, the ball size that this fits on is a 2-5/16 diameter ball. The drop, again, is three inches. Again, this will mount on a straight, three inch wide trailer tongue. The weight capacity on this actuator is 20,000 pounds and the maximum tongue weight capacity is 2,000 pounds. That should do it for the review on the Titan Bolt On Disc Brake Actuator for 2-5/16 ball with the drop, and the electric lockout in a 20,000 pound weight capacity.

This is exactly what wa advertised and arrived quicker than I thought, especially since it is during the holidays when shipping always takes longer. The only reason it doesn't get 5 stars is the packaging, the actuator really needs to be packed in something more ridgid that cardboard. My actuator arrived with the 2 pins on the cylinder bracket bent (looks like it may have been dropped during shipping). I didn't contact the seller as the last one that I ordered (from another vendor) arrived the same way and for me it is easyer to repair it that return it. 326606

The mounting tab was slightly bent in shipping so the installation was a little tough by myself. Just had to bend it back and needed four hands. The product overall is a direct replacement of the unit I am replacing so I am expecting it to function flawlessly. 66606

Ask the Experts about this Titan Brake Actuator

Do you have a question about this Brake Actuator?

  • Disc Brake Kit Recommendation for Boat Trailer with 6k Axles
  • Based on what you listed as having on your trailer axle the Kodiak Disc brake kit part # K2HR526D that you listed would be the correct kit. Since you said saltwater you might be more interested in the kit that has stainless steel rotors, calipers, and mounting brackets # K2HR526DS. You'll need to swap to a disc braker compatible surge brake actuator as well though since they require higher psi ratings than drum. For that the surge brake actuator part # T4750720 would work great as it...

  • Recommended Coupler Lock for the Titan Model 20 Brake Actuator
  • I do have an option for you but the release handle on the Titan Zinc-Plated Brake Actuator part # T4750720 is going to limit the use of some coupler locks like the MegaHitch Lock Coupler Vault Pro part # UF35-946510. Instead, I recommend the Blaylock EZ Lock Trailer Coupler Lock part # BLTL-33-40D. In order to break though this lock you would have to cut though a 3/4" thick hardened steel pin which is easier said than done. This would require power tools but if a would-be thief does have...

  • Replacement Coupler Recommendation for Titan Model 20
  • How did the trailer become uncoupled? Was the latch not secured on the ball? If so then the coupler sounds like it needs to be replaced. For that we have the Titan Model 20 as part # T4750720.

  • Is Lockout Solenoid Included With Titan Brake Actuator Coupler # T4750700
  • The Titan Zinc-Plated Brake Actuator, part # T4750700 you referenced does not have a solenoid included. There are three types of systems you can choose from. Either a system like part # T4750700 that has no solenoid, a coupler with manual lockout, or brake couplers with an electric solenoid lockout. If you are wanting a brake coupler with an electric lockout I recommend the Titan Zinc-Plated Brake Actuator w/ Drop Electric Lockout, part # T4750720. This has the same features as the coupler...

  • Can the Titan Model 20 Brake Actuator be Used for Triple Axle Trailer with Disc Brakes on All Axles
  • You could use the Titan actuator # T4750720 for 6 brake assemblies. You might want to switch to a larger diameter brake line though. That will help with braking power and response time. You could possibly put on brakes on the third axle as long as it has brake mounting flanges already in place. Otherwise you would have to have flanges welded on. This is a precision job that requires a special jig and someone with experience in welding on flanges. I have included a link to the right that...

  • Recommended Parts Needed To Rebuild Tri-Axle Trailer With EOH Brakes
  • We have many of the components that will work for you but we do not carry axles that would be big enough to handle the heavy load you said your boat and trailer weigh. I recommend finding a dealer locally to get the right axle for your trailer and boat. When they build the axles for you they should also install brake mounting flanges and spindles to match the other items recommended below. Since you mentioned 8,000 lb axles, I will use that figure for my recommendations for the other...

  • Parts Needed to Convert Trailer with 7,000 Pound Axles from Drum Brakes to Hydraulic Disc Brakes
  • An excellent brake kit for your 7,000 pound axles is the Kodiak # K2HR712. You'll need inner bearing # 25580 and outer # 14125A. Also seal # RG06-070. These disc brakes have a raw finish and an 8 on 6-1/2 bolt pattern. Since you have a tandem axle trailer, # T4830000 will be the brake line kit for you. If you're going to install electric over hydraulic brakes, the HydraStar # HBA16 is a what we recommend for an actuator. If your brakes will be just hydraulic disc brakes, then use...

The kit includes 2 full brake assemblies (rotor-and-hub assemblies, cast iron calipers, caliper-mounting brackets and caliper-mounting bolts). • Will Reese Steadi-Flex Weight Distribution System Work with UFP Surge Brake Actuator A-160
  • From my research the UFP A-160 actuator cannot be used with a weight distribution system so you won't be able to use the Reese Steadi-Flex, part # RP66560. In order to use any weight distribution system I recommend replacing your actuator with an updated unit like the Titan # T4750720. The Titan works with disc brakes, has a higher capacity than your UFP, and even matches the same bolt hole dimensions. Since the straight-tongue trailer you also will need a pole tongue adapter to...

One of our most popular disc brake kits is the Kodiak # K2HR79E. It's for 7,000 pound axles, like yours and has a 8 on 6-1/2 bolt pattern. For the brake lines you can use # HS496-252.
