When you apply the brakes in your tow vehicle, deceleration occurs and momentum pushes your trailer toward the rear of your vehicle. With surge brake systems, the actuator is triggered as your trailer moves forward while the tow vehicle slows. The actuator telescopes, applying force to its master cylinder, which in turn supplies the necessary hydraulic pressure to engage the trailer's brakes.

Electric reverse lockout with solenoid is automatically activated when you shift the tow vehicle into reverse. To use this feature, you must have a 5-pole flat, 6-way round or 7-pole wiring harness.

Video Transcript for Titan Brake Actuator - Surge Brake Actuator - T47154207K Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Titan zinc-plated lever lock brake actuator with an electric reverse lockout. This actuator is designed for trailers with disc brakes. The hydraulic actuator is designed to synchronize your trailer brakes with the tow vehicle brakes, and the reason why that's important is because when you apply the brakes in your tow vehicle, deceleration occurs and momentum actually pushes your trailer toward the rear of your vehicle. So with surge brake systems, the actuator is triggered as your trailer moves forward while the tow vehicle slows. This unit has the actuator here so the actuator actually telescopes, which is going to apply force to the master cylinder, which in turn supplies the necessary hydraulic pressure to engage your trailer's brakes. The electric reverse lockout with the solenoid, so the solenoid's included, it's this component back here, that's going to let you back up without actuating the trailer brakes. The solenoid has a two-wire design. One wire for reverse and one for ground.

It's going to automatically activate when you shift the tow vehicle into reverse. Then the unit's also going to come with this built in shield that protects the solenoid valve from the elements, and then that's going to be your connection point for your brake lines. It's going to feature a really nice lever lock coupler mechanism that ensures easy, secure connection. This unit is adjustable to fit a 1-7/8", 2", and 50 millimeter hitch balls. The trigger latch is very easy to use. Nice, secure design on that component of this actuator. The breakaway kit's included.

That's going to be this lever with the cable and with the hook right here. This hook is going to connect to the towing vehicle, and if the trailer and vehicle disconnect, the vehicle will pull the cable, which will activate, or pull, this lever here, which then activates the trailer brakes to prevent a runaway situation. The unit's made from a durable steel construction. It's going to have a zinc plating, so it's going to do a great job at resisting rust and corrosion. It has a bolt-on installation, so you've got your mounting holes, two located on each side. Those are separated on-center by 3".

Mounting hardware is not included. The instructions recommend using 1/2" x 4" grade five bolts, nuts, and lock washers. The product's made in the USA. Located here at the top, we have the easily accessible cap. That allows us to fill the unit with the brake fluid. This is designed to mount on a 3" wide trailer tongue.

Capacity on the unit is 7,000 pounds. Maximum tongue weight capacity is 700 pounds. That's going to do it for today's look at the Titan zinc-plated lever lock brake actuator.

Although the surge brake works well, I was disappointed that there were no instructions on how to install, operate or bleed the brake actuator with the shipment and nothing could be found online. Customer and technical support from the Seller and manufacturer for the surge actuator was disappointing. 492399

Two of the wheel castings had dings on the edge of the seals fits had to buff them off. I removed the bearing cups that came with the rotors and replaced all the new Timken cups and cones. Installation went well and everything worked like it was written up. Thanks would buy again 277485

Prior to ordering my Titan Leverlock Brake Actuator, I contacted the support team to answer several questions that I had. Everyone was very knowledgeable about the products and very helpful. Once I had my answers, I placed my order and the product was at my house in 2 days. I was sent notifications when the product order was received, shipped and delivered. It was a great experience and the unit installed as advertised with no issues. I would recommend the product and etrailer.com. Thanks 420040

Product is fine. My old unit was 13 years old and I had to bore out the mounting holes on my trailer to allow clearance of the brake cylinder with the new one. Product came with no instuctions which was an issue for me since the solenoid had two wires and my old one only had one. I assumed that one should go to ground. I have not yet worked on trhe lines and brakes but I see no problem there. 107022

This is not a direct replacement for Aero 6000. Getting brake line to unit is an issue with a folding trailer tongue. Will need to drill holes in trailer tongue for access to wiring and brake circuit. The brake reverse lockout solenoid was not installed and had damage to threads. I needed to hand work the threads to make it fit the master cylinder. No instructions are available to help with installation. 541251

This place has the best customer service. They notified me that the item I order would be out of stock until a later date. We then chose another item and three days later which includes the weekend, I received my item. They extradite efficiently and are very friendly. I have always ordered my trailer parts from etrailer and will continue to do so in the future 242374

I like the actuator better than the old one. Only thing that could be better on this from Titan would be 3 bolt through holes for Trailer tongue but then again I am in to overkill.

My drum brakes locked up on me because it is a boat trailer and gets submerged in water. I hate drum brakes, due how many part are inside and can rust up. I am the 3rd owner of my 1998 boat trailer and it was hard to figure out what I needed to fix it. I contacted etrailer and they were super helpful, super informative and super easy to work with. I told them what I had, and what I wanted to do., and they put a package together for me and that was them. Everything was super east to install because it is all bolt on. I did have to do some cutting and grinding on my old tongue because the master was welded on. That was the only difficult part. My new setup is amazing and the disk brakes and new master make it feel like my boat is not even there. All in all, I am 110% satisfied and will definitely be a returning customer for any trailer needs. Thank you etrailer for making everything super easy. 635089

  • Comparing Demco and Titan Disc Brake Actuators with Electric Lockouts
  • That is a tough question to answer as both are excellent manufacturers with their respective pros/cons. In regards to brake actuators, they both make and manufacture them here in the U.S.A. and they both come with a one year warranty. In regards to differences, Demco makes a wide range of different trailer and towing products whereas Titan specializes more in trailer brakes. WIth that being said we have had more positive feedback from Titan products in regards to trailer brakes, actuator...

  • Which Type Of Brakes Are Recommended For A Boat Trailer
  • For all boat and watercraft carrier trailers, I recommend using surge brakes as electric drum brakes are not ideal for use with boat trailers as we all know water and electricity do not mix. A surge brake setup can be activated by one of two ways. The first being a hydraulic surge coupler installed on the trailer's tongue such as the Titan Zinc-Plated, Leverlock Brake Actuator part # T47154207K. • Solution to Make Towing Trailers with Two Different Hitch Ball Sizes Easy
  • Since there isn't a way to easily convert the Titan actuator part # T47154207K to a 2-5/16 inch ball size your best option will be to use a ball mount that has both ball sizes on it. This will make it very easy to tow either size coupler. A really great option for that is the B&W Tow & Stow 2-Ball Mount # BWTS10033C. This gives you the two ball sizes you need and is rise/drop height adjustable which gives you flexibility to tow your trailer as level as possible.

  • Best Brake Option For Boat Trailer With Surge Brakes That Overheat and Drag On Steep Hills

They also have fewer moving parts compared to drum brakes so the maintenance is lower. To add electric over hydraulic...
