When you apply the brakes in your tow vehicle, deceleration occurs and momentum pushes your trailer toward the rear of your vehicle. With surge brake systems, the actuator is triggered as your trailer moves forward while the tow vehicle slows. The actuator telescopes, applying force to its master cylinder, which in turn supplies the necessary hydraulic pressure to engage the trailer's brakes.

Electric reverse lockout with solenoid is automatically activated when you shift the tow vehicle into reverse. To use this feature, you must have a 5-pole flat, 6-way round or 7-pole wiring harness.

Your best route is to replace your entire surge brake assembly as Atwood no longer produces any parts for their brake actuators. The Titan Zinc-Plated Brake Actuator # T47457207K is going to be your best replacement available. It is specific to disc brakes and has a 7,000lb weight rating while your Atwood 85736 has a 6,000lb. Unfortunately, we don't carry a Dexter 48970, nor could I find anything about that part. Assuming your boat and trailer have a combined weight of less than 7000 lbs and has disc brakes and a 3 inch wide tongue, the Titan # T47457207K surge brake actuator you'd looked at would work well for you. The coupler is compatible with 1-7/8, 2 inch or 50mm trailer balls.

How Does Reverse Lock Out Solenoid of Titan Surge Actuator Get Wired
The Titan Actuator part # T47457207K should have came with instructions but sometimes like anything they get misplaced before shipping. With the reverse lock out solenoid basically one of the wires runs to the reverse light circuit of the vehicle and the other gets grounded. The wires aren't polarity sensitive so either could be used as the power and ground wire. There isn't a coupler lock available for this coupler due to it being the multi-ball setup that fits more than one ball size....

Since the Atwood 85736 has been discontinued for quite some time, we as a result, do not carry it's replacement parts, however I do have another alternative. Your outer bearing # LM67048 will have the same 1.250" inner diameter of the # 15123. So the Kodiak Disc Brake Kit # K2HR526DKG will fit the spindle on your axle without issue. Replacement Brakes for Sailboat Trailer With 3500 lb Single Axle
A 3500 lb axle would typically use a L68149 inner and L44649 outer wheel bearing and the hub would have a 5 on 4-1/2 inch bolt pattern so you'll want to confirm that by pulling a hub and getting the reference numbers off the cages of your existing bearings.
