When you apply the brakes in your tow vehicle, deceleration occurs and momentum pushes your trailer toward the rear of your vehicle. With surge brake systems, the actuator is triggered as your trailer moves forward while the tow vehicle slows. The actuator telescopes, applying force to its master cylinder, which in turn supplies the necessary hydraulic pressure to engage the trailer's brakes.

Because this model does not include a reverse lockout, it is recommended that you equip your trailer with free-backing brakes so that you can drive in reverse without triggering your trailer's brakes.

Hitch has to be in just the right place to come off the ball. Not as good of quality as the older same model I replaced. But it works well. Just finiky.

It sounds like you are having trouble getting the coupler to release the ball. I would make sure you are applying a small amount of grease to the hitch ball prior to coupling the trailer, such as with White Grease Hitch Ball Lube # 58117

Amazing service, best price on the internet, best shipping rate and fast shipping.
I live in British Columbia Canada and was told by local suppliers it would take 6 weeks to get one in. I received this in just over a week from the other side of the USA. AMAZING

Glad I was able to find this Actuator. It is identical to the38 year old unit on the trailer I’m rebuilding. They work great.

Product came on time and as described. After a while of use is still working properly and looks great

Great help with Michael will use you guys more thanks

I ordered the Titan Zinc-Plated Brake Actuator to replace the rusted out old one on my boat trailer. The item I ordered showed up sooner than anticipated and was exactly as represented on the website.

I can't wait to install it and have the brakes on my boat trailer working again for many safe trips to the boat ramp.

Awesome exactly what I needed for replacement. The price; well the trailer hitch guy in town said he could order me the same thing for $790.00 plus $100.00 shipping cost and it would take three weeks to get here. Obviously he didn't get my business and and big thanks for a great product at a great price!

Fantastic actuator works great perfect fit for my trailer

Got this product had it before love them but the box was all torn up and the grease fitting was broken off the top roller probably no e trailer fault but ups

I had originally ordered just the replacement master cylinder for my actuator but after taking mine apart, there were way more parts that were needed to repar it. I called the service center and they were very helpful in cancelling the master cylinder order and guiding me to this assembly. It was in my hands in 3 days and in time to get the boat in the water.

High-quality product easy install other than bleeding the system sure is nice when the trailer brakes work.

Outstanding product that works as advertised, replaced a surge brake system and the improvement was dramatic.

Parts came in beautiful fit like a glove you guys were so helpful and everything I need it will definitely recommend you to my friends

They had exactly what I needed at a great price and quick free shipping!

Everything seems good quality, bolts should be included

Awesome product had it for yr now. Like it was brand new. Numerous trips to keys for sc not a flaw

great service was ordered and shipped very quickly .

Great product! Cheaper to replace then rebuild.

Used this to replace an existing unit that was rusting away. This product arrived quickly, in perfect condition and was easy to install.

Good Communications and Quick Delivery make this company a pleasure to deal with. Also the free shipping made your product stand out.

Exceed my expectations.

  • Is the Titan Zinc-Plated Brake Actuator w/ Drop # T2478100 for Drum or Disc Brakes
The Titan Zinc-Plated Brake Actuator w/ Drop # T2478100 that you referenced is designed for drum brakes so it sounds like it would be exactly what you would need. I attached a review video for this actuator for you to check out as well.

  • How to Bleed Brakes on Trailer Equipped with Titan Model 10 Hydraulic Brake Actuating Coupler
Begin by removing the master cylinder cap and fill the reservoir to three quarters full with DOT-3 brake fluid. DO NOT allow brake fluid to contact painted surfaces since it will damage the finish. Wipe up any spills immediately and wash the area with water. If you choose to manually bleed the system, an assistant makes the job easier. Manually pull the actuator out to fully extended position. Loosen the four bolts on the breakaway lever. Remove the back two bolts, rotate the two breakaway...

  • First Step for Troubleshooting Trailer Surge Brakes that Aren't Working
I would first try bleeding the brakes to first make sure there's no air in the lines as that prevents them from working but also will give you an idea if the master cylinder is working as well. We do carry some replacement parts but I would need to know the brand of the actuator to determine what you'd need.

  • Actuator Coupler Latch Will Not Stay In Slot
First, I recommend checking the size of the diameter of the hitch ball you are using. The Titan Zinc-Plated Brake Actuator # T2478100 is designed for use with 2-5/16 inch diameter hitch balls. If the hitch ball is too small, the coupler may be hitting the hitch ball too far down and preventing a secure connection. If you are using a 2-5/16 diameter hitch ball, it sounds like there may be something preventing the actuator from hooking fully around the hitch ball. The shoulder of the hitch...

Yes, you can use Titan 12.5K Zinc-Plated Brake Actuator with Electric Lockout, part # T4750820. This bolt-on coupler shares the 12,500-lb rating and 2-5/16-inch coupler size of the part you referenced, # T2478100. A breakaway kit is included.

  • Can Electric Lock Out be Added to Titan Model 10 Actuator
You can pretty easily add an electric lockout to the Titan Model 10 actuator part # T2478100. For that all you would need is the part # T4748800. This will then allow you back up a hill without the brakes locking up.

  • Can a Titan Model 10 Actuator for Drum Brakes be Used with Disc Brakes
The part # T2478100 is indeed designed for use on trailers with drum brakes. The master cylinder of the actuator is designed for lower pressure drum brakes. What you can do is swap out the master cylinder of the actuator with the part # T4749501042 and it would be compatible with disc brakes.

  • How to Modify Drum Brake Actuator Coupler for Use with Disc Brakes
Brake fluid pressure requirements for disc and drum brakes are too different to allow use of a disc actuator on drum brakes. Disc brakes typically need 1500-psi while drums need about 1000-psi. Brake proportioning valves do exist but we do not sell them. From a safety standpoint we do not like to recommend using a device like that. We always recommend using the appropriate actuator for the type of brakes on the trailer. Some actuators can take either drum-brake-pressure master cylinders...

  • Comparison of Two Titan Hydraulic Trailer Brake Actuators
The two Titan brake actuators, parts # T2478100 and # T4750600, are the same actuator except the former is for drum brakes and the latter is for disc brakes. Part # T4750600 operates at a higher pressue (around 1,500 psi) which is what is required for disc brakes where part # T2478100 only operates about 1,000 psi. You want to select the appropriate actuator because the higher pressue is too much for drum brakes and the lower not enough for disc.

  • Is a Titan Model 10 Actuator Worth Repairing or Should It Be Replaced
It would be really difficult for me to determine the cause of the issue without being able to tear down the unit. We do have some of the replacement parts for the Titan Model 10 Actuator but they are getting harder to find everyday so rather than dump more money into the unit a replacement would be the best option. The Titan Zinc-Plated Brake Actuator part # T4750600 for disc or part # T2478100 for drum is what I recommend.

  • Understanding the Lockout Function of an Actuator and How to Add One if it's Not Included
The reverse lockout on an actuator like the Titan Zinc-Plated Brake Actuator, part # T2478100, is a feature that prevents the actuator from activating your brakes while backing up. Without it, when you back up, the actuator compresses and applies the brakes. This can make backing up difficult especially on an incline. Luckily, this actuator can easily be equipped with lockout by using the Replacement Solenoid Valve for Titan Brake Actuators with Reverse Lockouts, part # T4748800. It replaces...

Absolutely, the brake actuator we have that most closely matches your gross trailer weight (GTW) of 10,000 lbs, is our Titan Zinc-Plated Brake Actuator part # T2478100. If you do not wish to have a 3" drop for the hitch ball, you will want part # T2477600. The Titan actuator is rated for a gross trailer weight up to 12,500 lbs and will fit over a 3" wide trailer tongue. If you are using disc brakes then you will need the Titan Zinc-Plated Brake Actuator w/ Electric Lockout part # T4750820.

I recommend the Dexter Zinc-Plated Model 10 Brake Actuator w/ Drop to replace your current Tie Down actuator. You will need either the Disc Brake Actuator # T4750620 or Drum Brake Actuator # T2478100. These both have a similar design as your current actuator with a drop coupler attaching to a 2-5/16" hitch ball. The Drum Brake Actuator # T2478100 does not include a Electric Reverse Lockout # T4748800 but you are able to add one if needed.

  • Can a 12,500 Pound Brake Actuating Trailer Coupler be Used in Place of a 7,500 Pound Coupler
If you go with a higher capacity brake actuator than what the trailer requires the braking can be very aggressive. If the trailer is supposed to have a 7,500 pound capacity actuator then that is what I recommend sticking with that or going up to an 8,000 pound model such as # DM8759411.

  • Electric Winch and Surge Actuator Recommendation for Trailer Towing 9,500 lb Boat
When it comes to choosing a winch for a boat trailer, there are a few general rules we can use. The boat-size-to-winch capacity is generally 2 to 1. With good rollers and short winching distances, the ratio can increase to 3 to 1 and with wooden bunks and long winching distances, you will want to reduce the capacity to 1 to 1. For an electric winch that would work well for you the ComeUp winch part # CU644501 would work well. This has a 4,500 lb capacity and a 50 foot long synthetic rope. For...
