Basically, my contact stated that there is no official rating, but he would say no more than 100 pounds. He then added if you can lift it by hand, be it 50 pounds or 90 pounds, the unit can take the weight.

You can mount an 8 to 12 inch tire on it with 4 or 5 bolt mounting pattern and it can be used as a dolly. But it doesn't pivot like a caster. Another option is to use an actual trailer dolly such as # RA20. It is limited to 600 pounds tongue weight and as far as gross trailer weight it depends on how much you are able to push/pull around with the dolly....

With that being said the carrier/tire does not need to be removed while not in use. The tire can simply be left on the carrier until the time in which it is needed arises. The above carrier/dolly works with most 8"-12" wheels that have either a 4 or 5 bolt pattern....
