Speaker 1: Today we're going to be taking a look at the Maxxtow spare tire carrier. This has been designed for use with trailers up to a 3 inch by 5 inch frame. Part number is MT70214. This spare tire carrier is designed to give us plenty of room and still be able to take our tire along with us. With the offset design, it elevates the tire slightly. That gives us better clearance on the underside so we don't have to worry it bumping into the ground or anything like that, especially on these shorter boat style trailers. Now not only is that offset going to give us a little more height on our spare, but as you can see rather than the type that bolts right around the frame right here and just holds the tire up against it, it also gives up space and gets it out further and away from our trailer.
That's going to help us out a lot when it comes time to load and unload. Now the carrier's been designed to work with the 4 on 4 bolt pattern, which means you would have four holes in your wheel lug. You're going to measure from the outside edge of one of your holes to the center of the other one. If that, from this edge here to the middle is 4 1/2, this is going to work out well for you. If this is 4 3/4, you need to choose a different option. Now for the 5 on 4 3/4 bolt patterns we recommend part number CE27310G.
Now this carrier is designed to work in a lot of different applications, utility trailers, small campers, boats, so you need something that is going to hold up and be sturdy for quite a while. And to help make sure it lasts in all of those conditions for a very long time, all this steel has a nice thick black powder coat finish on it. And all of our hardware has the zinc finish so we won't have to worry about corrosion. From the back of our mounting plate here to the front here, we've got about six inch offset, so it's going to give us that kind of spacing away from our trailer to provide the room. Now the lugs that are going to come with the spare tire carrier are going to be 3/4 inch or 19 millimeter lugs.If that doesn't match what you currently have on your trailer you can buy these with the same size shake and thread pitch to match the ones you have so you only have to carry one lug wrench. Now the carrier is designed to support up to 100 pounds, but with the 4 on 4 bolt pattern, or for that matter, the 5 on 4 1/2 inch bolt pattern, you're probably not going to get close to that.
Now the carrier gives us a lot of options as far as mounting go. These are going to be our upper two holes. You can see those here and here. And then we've got four holes on the bottom. That's what helps us to get all the way up to that 5 inch frame. You're going to choose the holes that you're going to use, based on your trailer's needs.
So we can either use this top hole or this top hole. This is a 4 inch trailer, just so you know. So on a 5 inch trailer, you're going to use these top holes. But use whichever hole is going to be closest to the frame. That's going to reduce any of the pivoting or movement. We are going to bring it up to this set of holes since we are working with a frame that we can do that on. It's just going to give our tire a little bit more elevation, get it up a little bit higher. Now we're going to grab our bolts and place those through. Now what we'll do is just place that right on top of the frame, just like that. That's going to hold our carrier there. You've got the plates that are going to go on the back. You see the holes are designed to match that in the carrier. So use the same hole we picked on the front and here to the back. And we're going to add on a flat washer and a lock washer, and we'll thread on our nut to help hold it in place.Same thing for the other side and you'll see we're placing these brackets on with the flat point towards the trailer. Now we're going to bring our bolt through the bottom here, and again, we want that to be as close to the trailer as possible and it's going to receive the same type hardware. And same thing for out last bolt. Now we'll start tightening down our hardware. We're going to use an 18 millimeter wrench and socket to do it.Once we've tightened these down evenly, top to bottom, you'll want to look in your instructions. There you'll find your torque specs. You're going to torque all four bolts down appropriately. Now for use on the 4 on 4 bolt pattern, we're going to use the lower hole and the hole directly above it, so the two that in line with each other. On our 5 bolt pattern, we're going to use this hole and this hole.So we've got a our carriage bolt. So we'll place that in the back of each of those holes. That square engages the square cut out in the plate so we can get our tire put in place. Now we'll place on our flat washer, our lock washer and the provided nut. You're going to do that of course, in both locations. Now, depending on the thickness of your trailer frame, you may have some extra bolt hanging out of the back, you can see like we do here.Once you have it installed, it's not a bad idea to cut those off just so you don't have to worry about hanging or hooking anything on them. And that will complete our look at the Maxxtow spare tire carrier, part number MT70214.

Carry your spare up and out of the way with this corrosion-resistant powder coated steel spare tire carrier. Raised, angled mount provides additional clearance for your spare. Clamp-on bracket fits trailer frames up to 3" wide x 5" tall.Good help when trying to determine which mount would work for my trailer. Item was on back order, but shipped close to when Jen said it would. My spare fit well, but there were just a couple of small issues. Product write up tells me the lug nuts supplied would be "the same size as the ones on your trailer" ... not quite. Lug nuts supplied are 3/4", trailer has 13/16" nuts, requiring 2 sockets to be carried. I'll head to hardware store to get lug nuts to match ones on trailer. Other minor issue was mounting bolt length. The kit is designed to fit many sizes of trailer frames. Mine is on the small side (2" wide) and the mounting bolts supplied (4 1/2 or 5 inches) were way too long. 3 1/2" bolts were plenty for my frame. Overall good experience with etrailer, as usual. 405319
This 'universal' tire carrier was advertised to fit both 4 and 5 lug wheels. My 5 lug wheel did not fit. Stud pattern was way off wheel bolt pattern in any configuration I tried. Ended up drilling the plate and moved a stud for it to work. Afterwards I read reviews on this product and seems many others had the same issue. 571196

as expected. 447407
Works as advertised and has a decent amount of adjustment. I raised it to the higher setting to keep the tire away from the ground when going over the top of my driveway. Apologies for the messy garage in the pic, but very happy with the purchase for my 4'x10' Utility/ATV trailer. 520800
Was cheap as far as price but high quality as far as construction, mounting was quick easy and fit perfectly on my trailer. Very satisfied and will go through these guys again for any future needs. Highly recommend. 490288

Does what it says, nicely mounted a spare tire on the tongue of my utility trailer on a 3"x3" square tube. There are a couple corners cut on this budget model to be aware of: (1) The mounting plate deformed a surprising amount when torqued to the specified xx lb.-ft., but did eventually hold that clamp load. (2) The lugs are carriage bolts with nothing but the wheel to hold them to the plate. It would have been nice if they were pressed-in studs instead. (3) The lug nuts included are the less common 3/4" size. To avoid having two different size lug nuts on my trailer, I swapped them for some old 13/16" nuts. Note that the stock picture of the carrier has the mounting bolts backward; the nuts go on the side with the spare tire. 937318
The hitch just like it was supposed to. 937061

I expected to receive Subject order on 12/15/2020. The order actually arrived 12/12/2020 ahead of schedule. Thanks to the entire etrailer staff for your immediate and friendly response to complete the order and ship it priority rather than standard ground at no additional cost to me. The staff at etrailer has been very helpful throughout the ordering process and I will use etrailer exclusively when it carries products I need. I will also recommend etrailer to anyone needing products and/or parts that you provide. Thank you again for a great job. 928086
I have bought two of these due to the multiple ways of mounting them. Due to my own failure to research enough, the second one I purchased will not fit my spare. It is a 5x5 and the description specifically states it not fit that. As far as the first, it is being used on my Honda Pioneer SxS. It fits that perfectly for that installation and feels very sturdy. I have always trusted etrailer for many of my needs for various installations on my cars, ATV's and SxS. 925033
Installed easy and it presently doing what it should. I would buy it again. 922850
I needed a spare tire mount that would work for my very specific needs. I repurposed a hitch mount truck bed ATV carrier and am using it at my spare tire carrier on my SxS. It works great and this spare tire mount is a perfect fit. It feels rock solid and doesn't move or rattle at all. This was one of the very few if not the only one that looked like it would fit my needs and with the videos etrailer always provides gave me the confidence it would fit as it did. I purchase from etrailer all the time and this is just another example why I do. 922728
Worked perfectly on my 14 foot Jon boat trailer. I mounted two carriers back to back so I could travel with two spares since my trailer has 4.80/4.00X8" wheels and tires. I often travel over 1000 miles with my trailer and boat and the tires are my potential single point of failure. My one recommendation is that the kit include nuts to lock the lug bolts to the carrier plate. This would make it much easier to mount and dismount the spare wheels/tires. 921225
Great products. Just what I wanted. Easy to install. Needed to carry my spare tire on my 16 ft. boat trailer. Works perfect. 919531
