Video Transcript for RockyMounts LiftOp Biggie Ski and Snowboard Carrier Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Rocky Mounts LiftOp Biggie Ski and Snowboard Carrier. Part number RKY1482. The Rocky Mounts LiftOp Biggie can hold up to 5 pairs of skis or 4 snowboards. It features a large push to open locking lever, and the plush cushions on top and bottom help protect and secure our gear. I've gone ahead and removed the skis and snowboards so we can get a closer look. Those can be mounted in the T-slot inside the bar, or it can be done with the clamp style which is around the bar.

The LiftOp Biggie has an aerodynamic tubular design to it, so it's going to hep reduce wind noise. It's constructed of a light weight aluminum, with a black finish. Its overall dimensions are 33 inches long by 5 1/2 inches tall, and features a limited lifetime warranty. Now that we're gone over the features, we'll go ahead and show you how to get it installed. There's two ways to go about doing this. You can use the clamp method, which is going to be a universal way for your round, square, arrow, elliptical bars.

There's the T-slot, for your slotted bars. Let's go ahead and do the clamp method first. What we need to do is open up our clamp, now these are going to come with the bolts already in them, so we can take those out. We'll slide our clamp underneath, and we're going to line it up with that hole right there. Then we'll take our bolt with the flat washer on it ...

We'll take our included tool and we'll thread that through. Now we don't want to tighten it down all the way, we want to have it loosely installed that way we can still swing our flap over like that to tighten it down to our crossbars. Once we get that one done, we'll just go ahead and repeat that same process here on the next one. Now with both clamps installed, let's go ahead and head up to our crossbar. As you can see, we've already got one installed. When we bring our other one up, we're going to make sure that they're both in line with one another.

Now to get these clamped down, we'll need to pick up on our little tab right here and move it over. That's going to reveal our hardware that we need to tighten it down. Once we've got that moved over, we can go ahead and grab our clamp, bring it over, put it into it's little notch there, and we can grab our included tool and tighten that down. There's no reason to over tighten. Just get it nice and snug around the crossbar, then we'll be all set. Once we're all tightened up, we'll just push our tab back over and then we can move over to the other side and tighten that one down. Now with our clamps in position, we can now finish tightening down other bolts. We'll open it up, then we can just start getting those nice and snug. Perfect. Now this is what a LiftOp Biggie looks like with the universal clamping style. Now let's go ahead and show you the T-slot method. For the T-track method, it installs roughly the same, there's just a few less steps. Let's go ahead and get started. We're just going to open it up, just like before, grab our spacer, our bolt, our flat washer, we'll put the flat washer on first, followed by our spacer, and we'll come over to our carrier and we're going to put those down through the holes. Once we get that through there, we'll grab our square nut. We're going to thread that on. We're just going to thread it on, just to get it started, so we'll have it loose like that. Then we'll just repeat that step for the other side. Now with everything in place, we can go ahead and head on over to our vehicle. As you can see, we've already got one installed, so lets go ahead and match it up. We'll need to remove our end cap, then we can grab our carrier. We're going to line it up with this slot up here, make sure that they're positioned correctly, and then we can begin to slide them on. Once we get it started, just push it on, followed by our next one, then we've got it. Once they're both on there, we can just match it up with our other one. Now we can replace our end cap, and finish tightening everything down. We'll open it up, and just tighten out bolts, and we've got it. We're ready to load up our skis and snowboards. Now I've got two sets of skis and two snowboards we can load up, so to do that, lets open up our carrier. We can bring our snowboard up, we'll set it in position, and push it all way on. We can go all the way to the very end, to about there, and we can grab our skis. We'll allow some good separation between there, so nothing rubs on one another. Once we get it all loaded up, we can just simply close them. Then we can lock them up. That's going to complete our look at the Rocky Mounts LiftOp Biggie Ski and Snowboard Carrier. Part number RKY1482.

I have to admit. I was excited about this purchase and wrote the original review before having them on the vehicle for a couple of weeks. The racks look like they would be great. They do fit any shape crossbar except......on Yakima bars round bars. The rack in front tends to tilt backward when there are no skis or boards in it. The cable to tighten it will crack the plastic bracket if tightened too much. The racks will tilt back even though the cable is tightened as much as it can without breaking the bracket. We contacted RockyMounts to see if there was another solution.....the guy told us the racks would stay upright if we left skis in them. A very poor suggestion for an expensive piece of equipment. We decided to send them back and get another brand and they work great.

Timely delivery & great customer service from Jordan F. Install tips: T- or P- handle 5mm Allen/hex tool helpful - it's a long reach to farthest mounting bolts - as is small screwdriver to disengage cable end from cable mounts. Release tension on cable prior to install - makes it much easier to manage install; pay particular attention to Step 4 - don't tighten Allen bolts until cover plates are in place! Will put to use right away to handle 5 pairs of fatties, travelling to SW Rockies to ski the Butte, Taos & Silverton. Secure & solid mounting; easy to lock/unlock; looking forward to having gear outside the rig & saving lots of interior wear and tear! Will follow up with images & review following return from our trip! 336112
