Video Transcript for Tow Ready Safety Chain with Quick Links Review

Today on our boat show we're going to install the tow ready safety chains with quick links, part number TR63035. Our safety chains are 72 inches long and have a capacity of 5,000 pounds. Another particular application has had a foldaway jack installed so we're going to need some longer safety chains to get all the way back to the original manufacturer's tongue before the cut for the foldaway. Now, you can see we've got a lot going on in this area. We've got our extra long chains so we can get back here where we can get a good solid hold on the manufacturer's frame. We're going to go up about an inch from the bottom of the frame, make a pilot hole and then enlarge it enough to get a half inch bolt that will go through the frame and get secured on the inside with a flange nut. I'm also going add a washer here on the outside to uphold the chain.

Now, we just need to go ahead and drill our holes. Now, with one side done I'll go over to the other side and repeat the same process. Now, to get our hardware inside our trailer tongue we'll go ahead and remove the safety clip and pin. Fold the coupler back and expose the open channel. We'll take the last open link, our bolt, go into the frame, and then put a nut on the inside of the frame channel. Take the last open link on our safety chain, put our bolt and washer through it.

Then, it will go into our pre-drilled hole. Before I put it in the pre-drilled hole I'm going to go ahead and use a wrench and pliers to get my flange nut inside the channel lined up with my pre-drilled hole. Now, once we have them both installed and tightened down by hand we'll go ahead and run them down and secure them. Next, I'll go ahead and put my trailer coupler back in place. Our safety pin in position. Now, our trailer coupler's back in place.

Let's take the safety chain and bring them down towards the trailer coupler. Depending on the vehicle ball mount and other bearing accessories that you're using to hook your trailer up to your tow vehicle will depend on the length of safety chain you want hanging out the front of your coupler. Then, once it's determined you could use a pair of bolt cutters or even a cut-off wheel to cut one link in half and just use the remaining sections of your chain. Now, to secure to your vehicle, provided with the kit will be the quick links. Simply, open up the quick link, install the safety chain and then put the quick link over the chain hole down on your hitch, close it up and your new safety chains are installed and your ready to head on down the road. There you have it for the install and operation of our tow ready, towing safety chains, part number TR63035 on our boat trailer. .

I want to thank you for all your help with my trailer you were more helpful than you realize. So this is my trailer for a 22' Flats Cat shallow draft Catamaran. I totally dismantled my trailer and buffed by hand with a wire buffer and sand blasted in some spots and applied multiple coats of some very expensive galvanize paint (Z.R.C.). I installed all new C. E. Smith Carpet (about 80'), seven new LED waterproof lights, new springs, new equalizers, new tongue jack, new wench, new safety chain, new chain brackets, all new SS hardware and a 35' long wiring harness. I was able to send only one review with a picture of the safety chain and brackets. I'm having a little trouble with the rest..oh some of these items were bought locally or from your competitors, until I found ETRAILER. Your prices were cheaper for the exact same things. Your helpful how to videos were helpful. And Rose, your personal helpful knowledge made my buying experience very pleasant, I actually enjoyed talking to you! Thanks to ETRAILER and specifically to Rose G. 497947

Great chains. Solid and very heavy. Never needed them as they are intended but if the trailer had ever come off I think they would have done the job 433010

Replaced old rusty chains with these. Old ones were also to short. They haven't rusted yet although the trailer does not see salt water just brackish. Good chain for the money. Always pleased w/etrailer. 370732

Do you have a question about this Safety Chains and Cable?

  • Where to Attach the Safety Chains After Installing the Fulton Fold-Away Coupler Hinge Kit
  • You will need to locate the safety chains before the cut that is made to install the Fold-Away Coupler Hinge, # FHDPB330301, to be in compliance with DOT regulations. Normally the chains are welded to the bottom or side of the trailer framing, and ran forward. I would have a qualified weldor, weld a Safety Chain Loop, # E950, to the bottom of the trailer frame, before the fold way cut, and then attach safety chains, like part # 2118-348-04, with Safety Chain Quick Links, # 2114-553-04....

  • Safety Chain Recommendation for a 10,000 lb Trailer
  • I would have a qualified weldor, weld a Safety Chain Loop, # E950, to the bottom or side of the trailer frame and then attach safety chains, like part # 2118-348-04, with Safety Chain Quick Links, # 2114-553-04. You may also need to extend the original chains with quick links and added chain, like part # TR63035, which has 6 feet of chain. Each of these chains has a 5k capacity so with 2 you would have a 10k capacity.

  • How to Extend Trailer Safety Chains that are Too Short to Reach Loops in Hitch Receiver
  • If you want to just add on some sort of extension you can use Safety Chain Quick Link # 49135 which has a working load limit of 3300-lbs. This will give you about 3-inches additional length. Ideally trailer safety chains will be one continuous chain, without additional connection points or extenders. The best solution is to replace your safety chains with new ones of the appropriate rating and length, such as TowReady # TR63035 (sold as a single piece) which is 72-inches long and that...

  • What is the Strength Rating of the Quick Links Included in Tow Ready Safety Chain # TR63035
  • The Quick Links included in the Tow Ready Safety Chain # TR63035 are rated along with the chain itself for 5000-lbs break strength. The working load limit (WLL) is 1650-lbs. I verified this with my contact at TowReady. We do offer Quick Link connectors as stand-alone items, and in various ratings ranging from a few hundred pounds up to part # 49135 that is rated for 10,000-lbs capacity (and 3300-lbs safe working load limit). You can search our site by putting the term safety chain quick...

  • What are the Sizes of the Chain Links in the Tow Ready 5k Safety Chains
  • I have included a couple of pictures I edited showing the dimensions of the chain links and the quick link included with chains # TR63035. These chains have a capacity of 5,000 pounds when used as safety chains (lateral pull). The largest bolt that could fit through one of the regular links is going to be a 1/2 inch or 7/16 inch due to slight variations in the links. For the larger quick ling 11/16 is the largest

  • Is Clevis Hook 6495-301-04 Compatible with Tow Ready Safety Chain Kit with Clevis Hooks 49150
  • On the Clevis Hook with Latch, 5/16" Item # 6495-301-04 the pin that would go through a chain link is 7/16 inches in diameter like you said. That means that the internal width of a chain link would have to be at or a little above 7/16 inches in order for the pin to go through the link. For safety chains # 49150 the metal of the links is 5/16 inches but the opening in a link is a hair under 1/2 an inch and so they would work with # 6495-301-04. You could also use Safety Chain with...

  • Length of Curt Safety Chain with S-Hooks # C80031
  • Thank you for your recent purchase from etrailer. The Curt Safety Chain with S-Hooks # C80031 that you purchased has an overall length of 48-inches (including the two hooks) and an actual chain length of 40-inches as noted on the product page. Since I do not know how much additional length you require I suggest you take a look at TowReady # TR63035 which has an overall length of 72-inches. Or if you need only another inch or two you could add on Curt S-Hook with Wire Keeper # C81820...

  • Trailer Coupler Install Video Request
  • I have a video of a very similar coupler as the Coupler part # DL23870 being installed on a trailer that I attached for you to check out. The process will be identical basically. Grade 5 or higher bolts will be all that is needed for installation hardware for the coupler. Grade 8 would also work. I would have a qualified weldor, weld a Safety Chain Loop, # E950, to the bottom of the trailer frame, and then attach safety chains, like part # 2118-348-04, with Safety Chain Quick Links,...

  • How To Combat Clearance Issues Between A Truck Bed Camper And Boat Trailer
  • In order to gain clearance between the camper and boat trailer, you will need to use a hitch extender. Hitch extenders will reduce both the tongue weight and tow capacity of your vehicle. The Hitch Box Extension and Reducer part # RP45292 will provide an extension of 24" or 34". While using the extension for 24", your maximum towing capacity will be reduced to 6,000 lbs and tongue weight to 600 lbs. When using the extension for 34", your max towing capacity will be reduced to 4,500 lbs...
