Video Transcript for RoadMaster Single Hook Straight Safety Cables Installation - 2014 Ford Focus

Speaker 1: Today, on our 2014 Ford Focus, we're gonna be taking a look at and showing you how to install the Roadmaster 76" single hook straight safety cables. Part number RM-645-76. If you ever flat towed a vehicle before, you're gonna know that you gonna wanna have safety cables. They're just that extra bit of security in case anything we're to happen with out towing set up. They're gonna keep our vehicle attached to our motor home. Not only that, but they are required by law.The cables are made out of an aircraft-type galvanized steel construction, so they're gonna be extra durable and strong.

They're also gonna feature a heavy duty drop forged steel hook. It's gonna have a spring loaded clasp to give it extra security and making hooking them up a breeze. The cables are gonna feature a nice vinyl coating around the outside not only to prevent any kind of rust or corrosion on the cable themselves, but it's also gonna prevent any kind of scratched or chipping on our tow bar itself. On the other end where it's gonna attach to our motor home, we're gonna have some quick links. They're also made of steel. Trying to easily thread on.

We're gonna have that security, but also be able to take them off fairly easily. Our cables are gonna be 76" long. They come in a pair and they're gonna have a total weight capacity of 8000 pounds per pair.We already have our Focus hooked up and we have one our safety cables hooked up, so let's go ahead and put the second one on together. To start out, you're gonna notice that we're gonna have two different ends. We're gonna have one that's gonna have a hook on it, the spring loaded clasp, and one that's just gonna have the braided cable on it.

The end with the braided cable, we're gonna take the quick disconnect link and we're gonna slide it over the end of it.Then, we can move to our hitch and find the safety chain connection points. We're gonna find our safety chain connection point and we're gonna slide the quick link over and secure it in place. Now it's important to criss-cross the cables. We just connected it to the passenger side of our motor home, so we're gonna underneath out tow bar and come over to the driver side and cross over the top of our tow bar to take up some of the slack, and then we're gonna find the hook and find our safety cable attachment point on our baseplate. We're just gonna snap it into place. Now, if you're worried about the slack, it will have a little bit of slack taken up because our tow bar isn't in the fully extended position, but you just wanna go ahead and wrap it around your tow bar.

Just make sure that that final loop goes underneath the tow bar, the center section here where it pivots, and make sure that you do cross the cables. With our safety cables hooked up and everything else hooked up as well, we're ready to hit the road. That'll finish up your look at the Roadmaster 76" single hook straight safety cables. Part number RM-645-76 on our 2014 Ford Focus.

As advertised! I bought this set to replace the set that was damaged after I installed a receiver drop hitch and pulled out of a shallow driveway after fueling. They were the perfect replacement for my Roadmaster Sterling All Terrain tow bar. I used Velcro straps to allow the safety cables to move with the towbar, but not drop below the bar and be damaged. 633747

Do you have a question about this Safety Chains and Cable?

  • Where are Roadmaster 64 Inch Safety Cables Measured From?
  • The Roadmaster 64" Single Hook, Straight Safety Cables # RM-645 is the overall length of the unit. If you are at all concerned with the amount of length I highly recommend going to a longer cable such as the 76" # RM-645-76 or the 80" Double Hook # RM-674.

  • Roadmaster Sterling All Terrain Tow Bar Safety Cables Replacement Recommendation
  • For the Roadmaster Sterling Tow Bar the recommended length for replacement safety cables is 80 inches. Roadmaster lists the coiled cables part # RM-674 which are coiled only for a small portion of the cable and are straight for the rest of it.

  • Parts Needed to Flat Tow a 2013 Chevy Traverse Behind an RV Using a Sterling Tow Bar
  • For your 2013 Chevy Traverse and Sterling tow bar I recommend the EZ4 base plates # 523175-4. Base plates can be tricky to install so I have included a link to the instructions so you can see the steps ahead of time. In addition to the tow bar and the base plates you will also need safety cables (if the tow bar did not come with any) # RM-645-76, lighting, and supplemental braking. For lighting you can use a simple magnetic kit such as # C-ATL20A but for a more permanent solution I recommend...

  • Parts Needed to Flat Tow a 2013 Buick Enclave Behind an RV
  • The first thing to do is check the capacity of the hitch on your Winnebago. The weight capacity of a Class III hitch varies. There should be a sticker on the hitch but if not the capacity is probably in the RV literature. Assuming that the RV and hitch are rated high enough you will need base plates, a tow bar, safety cables, lighting, and supplemental braking to tow your 2013 Buick Enclave. Starting with the base plates # 523149-1 is an excellent choice. The arms can be removed when...

  • Correct Base Plates to Flat Tow a 1990 Mazda Miata
  • The correct base plates to flat tow your 1990 Mazda Miata are the Roadmaster XL # 711-4. These base plates will work with your Roadmaster Falcon All Terrain tow bar # RM-522 using the included quick-disconnects and crossbar. You will also need safety chains, Roadmaster # RM-643 for 68" chains or # RM-645-76 for 76" chains. For lighting, you can either use magnetic tow lights # TL21RK if you do not plan on towing your Miata often, or Roadmaster Universal Hy-Power Diode Wiring Kit # RM-154...

  • How To Use the RoadMaster Single Hook Safety Cables With Large Clevis On Jeep Bumper
  • The best option I have for you to use the RoadMaster 76" Single Hook, Straight Safety Cables part # RM-645-76 with the larger clevis on your Jeep would be to install a larger hook on the safety cables. For this, we have 1/2" options like part # TCSLIP-G70-13-L as well as 5/8" options like part # C81920.
