Today on our 2015 Honda CRV, we're going to be test-fitting our Rhino-Rack 2500 Series square-bar roof rack system, part number DS1375B. These are the square crossbars, 54" long and part number DK284 and this is the custom fit kit for the CRV. The Rhino-Rack square-bar roof rack system is great for carrying a wide variety of accessories on your roof while freeing up space inside your vehicle. You can carry bike racks, cargo baskets and closed cargo boxes, ski and snowboard carriers as well as kayak carriers. The two bars have a combined carrying capacity of 165 lbs, although you always want to double-check with your vehicles manual to make sure it can withstand those weights. While these are square bars there are fairings offered on etrailer.com, which you can purchase separately and that will cut down the wind-noise sound and the drag while you're driving. All the legs on our roof rack system do lock, so once you install this onto your roof, it's secure to your roof as well. Now that we've gone over some of the features of this roof rack system, let's go ahead and show you how it installs.
We have our rear bar partially assembled on our table here. We'll flip it upside-down, then we'll install our fit kit onto our other leg. Before we do that, one thing we have to make sure of is the measurement between this edge here and our leg. Now you'll find this measurement in the instructions and normally you would have a strip that you would cut into place and keep it in line, however for demonstration purposes, we'll just measure it out. Next we'll take our rubber pad from our fit kit, they are labeled and has an arrow on it, so you just want to make sure that it goes to the corresponding foot. Finally, we'll install our clamp, which we'll screw in on the end here.
I'm screwed in just enough to hold the clamp in while we install it on our roof. Make sure it's sitting evenly on both sides. Now we'll take our crossbar spread measurement, which will be from center of the bar to the center of the bar. You'll find this measurement in your instructions. Once everything is measured out, we'll get it snug up against our door frame and we'll do this on both sides and then we'll give it about five or six turns on each side until it's completely tightened down.
Our final step is to put our locking-in caps in place. Once that's done we can load up our gear and hit the road. There you have it for the Rhino-Rack square-bar roof rack system on our 2015 Honda CRV.

This custom fit kit lets you mount 4 Rhino-Rack 2500 legs to your vehicle with a naked roof. Clamps mount to legs with bolts. Includes 4 clamps and 4 pads.Fit my Honda CRV perfectly and the whole kit was easy to install. The cargo box I ordered for in the racks perfectly. Of course there was some noise when traveling, and also reduced gas mileage, but that is to be expected. The very slight whistle when driving at higher speeds was easy to tune out. Service from etrailer was great and shipping was quick! I also appreciate all of the information and tutorials available. Would order from this company again.
This fit on my 2023 Honda CRV LC model.
This review covers the Rhino Rack 2500 Vortex Aero crossbars and associated parts (DK284, RRRLKVA, RRVA137S-2) for a naked roof installation on a 2018 Honda CR-V.
Very solid racks. We just took our first trip using them and the didn't budge. As recommended, a few days after installing, I tightened the bolts a bit. I'm not sure they needed it--just a little insurance.
The installation process was clear, but fairly detailed. It would be easy to miss a step, so take your time. Also, I tried a couple shortcuts in the order when installing on the car, but had to back track. So, go in the order they give you.
The racks easily supported our filled "pod" and a couple surfboards, strapped side-by-side. Sorry, no photos of the rack loaded. One thing to watch out for is that our old Thule pod almost didn't fit because of the thickness of the racks. I had to loosen the bolts almost entirely.
Of note: I feel that although I followed the measurements to the millimeter, the fit on our 2018 Honda CR-V wasn't exact. Where the pads sit on the roof of the car didn't align perfectly. I could have adjusted this by just re-trimming the rubber pads that go in the channels, but it's not a big deal, so I just left it.
Finally, I do have one concern. The angle of final installation doesn't really protect the racks from theft very well. The plastic plate that locks over the screw would allow someone with the proper tool to get up under it and loosen the bolts. That being said, someone so inclined could also just break the little plastic door or drill a hole in it to access the bolt. So, I guess it's just a deterrent anyway.
Overall, I'm very happy with the racks and etrailer.com! Despite shipping delays due to Covid-19, they were able to get the racks to me in time for an upcoming trip. I did choose to expedite shipping, but the cost was very reasonable.
The rack was shipped super fast and all of the boxes were on great condition. The measurements seemed a little off for the install on my 2014 CR-V. I was able to figure things out and get the rack installed properly. The rack is a great quality and I've already used it under with my kayak. Very little wind nurse while driving. I can't hear it at all with the windows up. I'm very happy with this purchase. I've never had a bad experience with etrailer.
Installation was relatively easy. Like others have mentioned here, make sure you pay attention to the instructions. Make sure the pads with arrows are pointing to the front of the car and you're relatively accurate with the suggested mounting measurements.
I rode with them on the car for about 900 miles - hot and rainy weather - and they make a really weird noise. Haven't been able to confirm if the noise came from the wind rushing in between the roof and the bars, or, as my uncle thinks, from the slot spaces under the bars that hold the 4 mounts.
I later attached a Leader Accessories Upgraded Roof Rack (64"x 39"x 5') carrier basket to the top of the rails and the noise went away. The carrier has a wind deflector in the front, go figure.
I drove another 1000 miles with the rails and carrier with some stuff in it and it handled very well.
In any case, I like the way they look on our 2016 Honda CRV SE. Admittedly, I'm scared to take the mounts off to see if they leave a dent or scratch. I'm pretty sure they will, but still happy with them.
I'll try and update this review after I remove them.
The clamps fit well on my 2014 Honda CRV. I took my time reading the instructions and attaching the cross rails to ensure proper attachment, and found the fit to work great. The clamps work well on the contour of the CRV.
I took a test drive, and did not encounter any problem.
Aloha from Hawaii!
I got these as part of the Rhino Rack cross bar set for our 2012 Honda CR-V. The set as a whole works great. I was impressed by the clear instructions and the little details like the decals they provide to put on your car and parts to quickly assemble without re-measuring after the first time. I was also pleased by the customer support. I called to inquire about shipping time because it looked like my parts were coming later than I needed them. William B was very courteous and helpful in getting my order out on time.
We received our rhino rack system, and in just over an hour we had it installed, the kayaks loaded and were on the toad.
We have had our rack about a year now. We have had no issues, except perhaps remembering to tighten the mounts every so often but that is us being lax.
I bought the rhino rack for my 2013 CRV to haul my kayak. Installation was pretty simple and easy to understand. It is super sturdy and strong. Spent significantly less going with the Rhino Rack name over Thule or Yakima and I'm very happy with how strong this rack is. It's rated up 165lbs witch is plenty for me. The staff at etrailer was very helpful with upgrading my order to 2 day shipping once I realized I needed to get my rack asap to get some striped bass in the bay with my kayak. I just called and in 5mins had my order from regular to 2 day shipping. I will use these guys for whatever else I might need rack wise.
Fairly easy to install onto my 2017 Honda CR-V. The crossbars feel very sturdy and are securely attached to the vehicle. Took me about 30 minutes to get it installed and could be done even quicker if you get help from another person. The bars themselves are a little fat so my Thule ski rack has a super tight fit. There is very minimal wind noise, so I'll probably be getting a fairing for that. The instructions felt a bit jumbled but with just the measurements alone, you can install it with a bit of common sense.
Very happy with the product and the easy to follow instructions! Looks great on my car! Thanks etrailer$
1) The Rhino Rack system fit my car and works well. Make sure to measure everything twice before you order to make sure you get the right fit kit. 2) By contrast, etrailer was not a reliable seller and I won't turn to them again for gear. They sent me a kit that had obviously been half assembled and then returned by an earlier customer. I accept that they need to resell return items. However, they did not ensure that all the pieces were enclosed, and several custom bolts were missing. Customer service gave me a big run-around, delaying my installation, but eventually sent the missing bolts several weeks later. In sum: good product but bad buying experience.
This review is for the Rhino Rack Vortex Aero Aluminum-Silver crossbars and
associated legs and custom fit kit (RRVA137s-2, DK284, RRRLKVA) necessary for a naked roof installation on a 2018 Honda CR-V. Just enter the model and year of your vehicle and etrailers website will tell you exactly what additional items are necessary to complete the install. etrailers installation instructions and videos are very helpful. The installation document provided is for more than one vehicle and for more than one style rack, so take your time to understand witch measurements apply to your installation and refer to the installation video if necessary. ON that note: The measurements given for front rack did not fit as nicely on the roof as the rear rack, I adjusted the the front rack measurements slightly. I would suggest trial fitting on your vehicle before cutting the metric rulers to final length. Stick On tags are supplied to indicate front, rear and the location to install on your vehicle. Once the rails are adjusted and tagged you can remove and reinstall the racks very quickly. Korren was very helpful in keeping me informed as to availability of items in stock and email shipping tracking. I am very satisfied with etrailers customer service and happy with the appearance and functionality of the Rhino racks.
Great rack. Easy to assemble and install. Mine is the one that attaches to the door frame. No issues with scratching the paint or any movement. I’ve used this on many camping trips and the extra space has been great! Really like the look of it on the CRV too.
Overall I love the rack! Structurally, I have had zero issues confidently carrying gear on my roof of my 2016 CR-V on washboard dirt doads. My only issue is that the rack did not come with enough vortex strip inserts to fit into both aero bars so now they catch wind and create a whistling noise at speeds above 30 mph. I tried buying additional Rhino Rack brand vortex strips but for some reason they would not stay attached to the rack and gradually fell off. I closed off the slots that the strips fit into with electrical tape, an ugly but effective solution. If it were not for the whistling noise, I’d happily give them 5 stars but it can be annoying on longer drives so that is why I gave the bars 4 stars. Overall, great buy for the money!
Mechanically it works fine but .. the "howl" due to wind resistance is unacceptable. We did a one way trip with our kayak on top but on return without the kayak ( bare rails) we stopped to remove the roof rack due to the excessive noise. I do realize that you offered a "streamlined bar version" but didn't anticipate the loudness of the item we purchased. Is there a way to dampen that effect?
When storing the assembled rails the "pads" are not fixed to the rail/legs and come off (and get separated) I have resorted to trying them on to prevent loss. Nice if they could be better attached.
The roof rack arrived without "modified" roof width instructions which I assume you have now fixed. Not a big deal but it required a few phone calls to determine the correct mounting width.
Got this fit kit for a Rhino Rack system, and the process of ordering (through Becky) and getting it in a timely manner was great. Fits like a glove, and no problems using it with a cargo box on top.
Awesome rack. I found a good Rhino Rack assembly and installation video which made the process easy. My rack arrived two days early so I am all set for the weekend.
Easy to install on our 2018 CRV. Very secure. Looks good. No issues.
We absolutely love these roof racks. Perfect fit on our 2012 Honda CR-V. Great for surfboards and snowboards.
Worked perfectly!!!
I am very pleassed with our rhino rack serieus 2500 roof rack. It is very sturdy. We also like the idea that it is removeable and very easy to take on and off. We bought 2 sets of Malone J Pro 2 Kayak Carriers from another company that were suppose to fit with the rhino rack but the bolts were too short. Just a warning if you were planning to get those to go with the rhino rack. We were able to contact Malone and they sent us longer bolts so they should fit now.
I was looking for roof racks for a Honda CRV to haul my kayaks. Found a "great deal" on a square tube Rhino Rack through etrailer.com and snatched it up. Upon receipt I had trouble fitting the racks to the vehicle per the enclosed Rhino Rack instructions - they just didn't look right when mounted to the vehicle. I contacted Rhino Rack by e-mail looking for a video or photos showing the racks on a CRV to confirm how they should look and was informed that the square tube style rack had been discontinued. They offered to send me new aero tubes at no charge. I admitted that I felt bad accepting the offer but, if they wanted to do that, I would gladly accept. The new aero tubes arrived and the assembly went together exactly as I imagined. I have yet to use the racks for hauling kayaks, but have hauled lumber, ladders, and various other long articles on the racks. They have performed very well, are easy to install and remove, and look good on the vehicle. Yes, they do add a bit of wind noise when driving but even that was not nearly as bad as expected. Based on the pricing I received from etrailer.com and beyond customer service I received from Rhino Rack,
I would not hesitate to recommend both companies to anyone.
I purchased Rhino-Rack Vortex Aero Crossbars with Rhino-Rack 2500 Series Legs (RRRLKVA) and Fit Kit (DK284) for my 2020 Honda CR-V EX Hybrid. The rack was easy to assemble and took about an hour. The only tool not supplied that you need is a sharp knife or scissors to cut the rubber strips to length. Once assembled, the installation took about 30 minutes, making sure to measure accurately for placement. I used blue painter's tape to initially mark the locations. I then placed the white marking arrows (supplied) to align with the marks on the tape. I then removed the tape, placed the racks aligned with the arrows, and tightened the clamps.
This product seems well made and engineered (I'm a retired mechanical engineer). Kudos to Rhino-Rack and to etrailer for selling it.
