Today on our 2017 Kia Soul, we're going to be test fitting the Yakima Skyline Roof Rack System consisting of part numbers Y00408. These are the round 48" CrossBars. Part number Y00148, these are the SkyLine Towers. Part number Y03536, and this is the RoundBar SL Adapter for the Yakima Skyline Towers. Part number Y00233, and these are the Landing Pads for the Yakima Control Towers. The Yakima Skyline Roof Rack is great for carrying accessories on your roof and potentially freeing up space in your vehicle.
It can carry bike racks, cargo baskets, and closed cargo boxes, watersport carriers such as kayaks and canoes, ski and snowboard carriers. Always double check with your vehicle's manual to make sure that your roof can withstand the weight of the things you're putting on there. Combined, the two crossbars here have a carrying capacity of 220 pounds. All four towers have these plastic knock outs in the center here which you can replace with locks that are sold separately. It also has a nice feature that when you're done using the bars, you can simply just lift them off and each of the landing pads has these plastic caps that you can put in place so you don't have to remove them. Now that we've gone over some of the features of the roof rack, let's go ahead and show you how it installs. We have our rear roof rack assembly here.
We have our landing pads, our skyline towers, and then our adapter kit for the roundbars. Let's go ahead and start by assembling our adapter kit for our roundbars and get those set up. I'll take our tower here, we'll place our adapter piece in the center, and then press it into place like so. We'll do this for the other one, as well. Now we'll take our adapter for the actual bar, set that in the center, and then we'll turn it upside down, find our screw at the bottom here, then tighten it down until you hear the clicks.
Now, repeat this for the other tower. Now, we'll go ahead and slide our tower onto our bar like so. We'll do the same for the other side. Then we'll go ahead and put our end caps in place, and so they don't come back out. Next, we'll 00:02:20 focus on our actual landing pads. Go ahead and take our top cover piece off like so, and then we'll attach our actual rubber pad at the bottom.
This just presses into place. We'll repeat this for our other landing pad. Now, we'll move on to the roof of the vehicle and our rear fix point's going to be right here. We'll have to remove this plastic piece on the top. You notice at the top of the plastic piece here it has a little arrow facing forward, so you go to this point here with the flat plated screwdriver. Just push forward and it'll lift right out. The bolt you're looking for is on the inside here where we're going to make our connection point with this bolt that comes with the kit. Now, this landing pad kit does come with several bolts. Please refer to your instructions to find out which one goes with your particular vehicle. Now, go ahead and set our landing pad over where we're going to be installing our bolt. Then we'll install our black plastic washer, and then our bolt, and three metal washers. We'll take our included Allen tool, match it up with our mounting point, and tighten it down. Now, we'll repeat this for the other side. Now, we can set our crossbar into place. Now, we want to make sure that the front here is in the open position. This is so they can rest into our landing pads. We'll set them in the cradles, and then we'll determine the crossbar overhang with our crossbars, and then tighten those down as well. I'm going to go back and forth here a little bit, and then measure it out to make sure that it's even on both sides. That looks good. Then we'll tighten our bars to our towers, and to do that we'll tighten this bolt in the center here with our included torque tool until it clicks. We'll do this on the other side. All right. Our final step is to close up our towers which will lock them into place to our landing pads. Just push them in like so, and now we're ready to hit the road. There you have it for the Yakima Skyline Roof Rack System on our 2017 Kia Soul.
