Video Transcript for Rola Rail Extreme RBU Series Roof Rack Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Rola Rail Extreme RBU series of roof rack systems. The Rola RBU system has been designed to work with raised, factory side rails. They're going to grab a hold of them. That allows us to secure our crossbars right to the roof line of our vehicle. You can see really nice and secure. This is going to give us a lot of options for a lot of different accessories.

Whether you just want to put a rooftop basket or box up here to maximize the capacity of your vehicle while you're going on vacation or you want to throw a kayak carrier, couple kayak carriers up here, couple bike racks, and get your gear where you want it to go without having to store it in your car.Now this is a really nice looking roof rack system. As you can see, it has a graphite colored crossbar. It's very common to see black, very common to see silver. But that graphite, I think, really stands out and sets itself apart. See your RBU foot pack here.

Black polymer design. Very durable, very rigid. Tools stores right in the end of it so you don't have to worry about having any tools brought along with you.Now as we tighten up the rack with our included tool, it brings our clamp in. That comes in and puts pressure on the inside of our side rail. Then you can see here on the outside, we've got the clamp portion that goes down and around.

Now a common question we get on roof rack systems is wind noise. How much is it going to add to my vehicle And that's really going to depend on the roof rack style, but with an aero style bar and the technology in the way they've designed these, it really helps to make it bare minimum, as little wind noise as possible added to your vehicles ride.Couple ways they do that, here on the inside, once we have our foot pack position, we've got this strip. This is going to slide out right up to our foot pack, closes in this gap that we have on that track on the bottom of the bar. They're going to provide us with wind diffusing strips. You can see we've got just a little bit of a gap right here.

That strip we're able to take, slide it in, and we can cut that to size. But something that's kind of different between this one and any of the other ones I've dealt with, about this much of that strip actually goes into the foot pack itself right down here. So as we slide it in, not only does it butt up against it, but it slides in to give us as much protection as possible from wind getting to any gaps down here, creating that noise. Now not only is the size of our crossbar right in line with what you'd expect out of other elliptical style systems or aero style systems like this, should work out with a tremendous amount of roof racks, bike racks, and cargo carriers, things like that. But we've also got the t-slot right here. So if you happen to have the accessories that have the t-slot option, you can slide those in and then simply cut that rubber diffusing strip to the length that you need. Now another neat feature of the RBU system and something I think you're really going to like is the way the tool is stored. It's right here in the end of our foot pack. We're going to turn our quarter turning core. You can see that spring loaded design. It automatically pops out for us. Then we're able to grab it. It stays attached, we can't misplace it, we can't lose it. At that point we're able to loosen and tighten as needed. And it's just a matter of sliding it in, quarter turn the other direction, and it's held in place. Now for additional protection, if you would like to be able to lock either your end caps to your crossbars or your feet to your side rails, there are locked cores that can easily replace the quarter turn locks that we have here now giving you a key like system, all four or eight, whichever you decide will be keyed the same, and keep everything nice and secure to your vehicle. Now the RBU system itself offers 165 pound capacity. But you will want to check your owners manual to determine what your roofs capacity is of your vehicle and not exceed that. Now here's a few examples of the things we had talked about earlier. We've got a bike rack up here, we got our kayak up there. Really able to get these where we're going. Now when we compare the Rola RBU system to other roof rack systems that are out there, I think it's extremely comparable. With the raised rail system, they're all designed to grab a hold of or wrap around so the connection points great. I think it has a lot of features that we could compare to much more expensive roof rack systems. The anodized aluminum, the t-track, the extra steps they've taken in getting rid of any of the wind noise, I thin kr all huge benefits. And with the tool being stored right in our foot pack where there's no risk of losing or misplacing it, I think all in all there's a lot of great features here and it comes at a pretty cost effective price. Now we'll take the black portion of our foot pack. That's going to be slid into the track on the bottom of the bar just like that. We're going to place our end cap on and then just turn it to lock. Now we can place our roof rack system up on the roof line of our vehicle. You will notice each bar does have a front and a back. So you want to ensure that you've got the front facing forward in your direction of travel. Get it close to the position we're going to want it. We'll get both sides adjusted so it goes around our rail. Now we need to check the overhang on each side. Place your foot pack all the way in and see how much we have from here to the end of our bar. We can slide that back and forth to get it even. Now once we've got our overhang even side to side, we're just going to turn our t-handle here. You hear it grabbing a hold of our cross bar, or our side rail rather. Our tools going to slide in. Then we'll just lock it with a quarter turn. I'll go over to our other side, we'll do the same thing there. That's going to complete our look of the Rola Rail Extreme RBU series roof rack.

Do you have a question about this Roof Rack?

  • Roof Rack for a 2003 Ford Explorer With Wide Accessory Compatibility
  • There's two variants of the 2003 Ford Explorer, a two door and a four door version. The bars will sit and mount slightly different so it's important to make sure that you get the kind that matches your vehicle. Both of these will clamp to the factory chrome rails and let you use a wide variety of accessories. In either case, your actual capacity will be determined by the lowest weight capacity in the system, between the roof of the vehicle, the crossbars and the accessory you're loading...

  • Can the Sunroof be Opened with the Rola Sport Series Roof Rack with RBXL Mounting System
  • If the sunroof on your 2014 Volkswagen Jetta SportWagen opens up above the roof line then it is not recommend to use it with a roof rack attached such as the Rola Sport Series Roof Rack part # 59820. This will be the case for nearly all roof rack manufacturers such as Rola. The reason for this is because there is alway a chance for interference and the manufacturer simply cannot test every system on a model equipped with a sunroof. The other issue is that it will be extremely noisy in the...

  • Best Fitting Thule and Yakima Cargo Boxes for a Rola Roof Rack on a 2009 Kia Sportage
  • The Thule and Yakima boxes that do NOT use u-bolts to mount will fit the Rola roof rack # RBU47 on your 2009 Kia Sportage. For Thule that would be any box except the Sidekick. And for Yakima it would be any of the boxes in the other link provided.

  • Should there be a Gap Between Rubber Strip and End of Rola Roof Rack Crossbar
  • You do want the top rubber strip on the tops of the crossbars to cover the whole channel in Rola Sport Series Roof Rack with RBU Mounting System for Raised, Factory Side Rails - 47" Long Item # RBU47. There are a few things that can cause the strip to appear too short. It is possible that temperature changes, if extreme enough, could cause the strip to expand or contract. The shipping process can do all sorts of things to products so I imagine it is possible for the bars to rub on something...

  • One Roof Rack and Kayak Carriers that Will Fit Both a 2010 Subaru Forester and 2005 Pontiac Montana
  • For the lowest cost roof rack option that will fit both your 2005 Pontiac Montana and 2010 Subaru Forester, both with side rails, I recommend using Inno feet # INFR with 50 inch bars # INB127. This system will be fast and easy to install or remove and it is compatible with the Yakima HullRaiser kayak carrier Y04039. I know it isn't one of the ones you mentioned but based on limiting cost it is the best option. But using these carriers will limit you to 2 kayaks at most because there...

  • Rola Roof Rack Fit and Compatibility on a 2015 Subaru Forester
  • The Rola roof rack that fits your 2015 Subaru Forester with side rails is part # RBU47. It's easy to install and the aero bars are great for reducing wind noise when compared to square bar racks. The Rola fits directly onto your side rails by clamping onto them. I've linked the install details for you.

  • How To Carry Ladders On a 1998 GMC Jimmy
  • The Ladder Mounting Kit part # SEGLK2B is designed to be used with Rhino-Rack Vortex Aero Crossbars like part # RRVA126B-2. Rhino Rack does not offer a good system that will allow you to use these on your 1998 GMC Jimmy but the channels on the above crossbars are pretty much the same as the other options from Thule, Yakima, Rola etc. Therefore, in order to use the Ladder Mounting Kit on a GMC Jimmy, I recommend using the Rola Rail Extreme RBU Series Roof Rack part # RBU47 so long as you...
