Video Transcript for Rhino-Rack Roof Rack Installation - 2019 Toyota Highlander

Adam: Hi everyone. Adam with etrailer.com. Today we're going to be taking a look at the Rhino Rack Roof Rack System on our 2019 Toyota Highlander. The bars you see right here are going to be the Vortex Aero Bars and the ones we're using are going to be about 54 inches long. These are going to be made of aluminum, so they're going to naturally resist that rust and corrosion, but they also have an anodized finish to them so it looks real nice on top of whatever vehicle you may have. We are going to be able to use any accessory that's going to wrap around these bars pretty easily.

Also, it does have a little T-track system up top here. The rubber's just covering up there. We just have to trim that up to accommodate for whatever kind of accessory you guys are wanting to put on top of here. What I would recommend for Highlander here ,just because it's got a lot of seeding, a roof-mounted cargo basket would probably be a good choice just to get all that stuff out from the inside of your cab and up on top of your bars. It's going to give everybody a lot more leg room and such like that. Whenever I'm going on vacation, I like leg room, so that's going to definitely get that for you.

Also, I don't know how else we will be able to carry a kayak to and fro. We do also have a J-style kayak carrier. Each trailer actually makes one. That's when I would definitely recommend. A bunch of different stuff you can do and of course, might as well throw it in, you can put a bike up on here too.

Just be sure and check out our website and see what kind of attachments you guys plan on putting on this. These bars will have a weight capacity of around 165 pounds. But, we do recommend that you check your owner's manual of your vehicle to make sure that it can handle that kind of weight. If it can, might as well load it up and completely max it out to get as much stuff up here and to clear out your cab as best you can. Also, a lot of you guys we're wondering if our sunroof is going to be able to open with these bars on. It does, so you don't got to worry about it.

The ones you see here do have a nice black, coated finish, but we also have silver. If you think that it will look a little bit better with your ride, go ahead and make it yours and pick whatever color you like. But, of course both colors install exactly the same and it's pretty easy.Let's just go ahead and do that now. Alrighty. First things first, is we want to grab a tool like this. It's just a trim tool. You can just use a flathead screwdriver if you want. There's a little tab right here. We're going to peel that back a little bit and we're going to set that to the side. We're not going to be using it because we will be covering it up. Now, what we want to do, we're going to have a rubber piece and a plastic piece. We have a FL on there, it's going to be front left. Then of course, we're going to line this up accordingly, just like so, making sure it fits on there real nice. Once we do that, we want to pay attention to the arrow that's on here as well. It's going to be facing towards the front. But before we put this down, and we do have a little seal right here, and we're just going to put it right there, lining up that circle with this circle right there. That's just going to act as a really good seal, so when we do tighten this all the way down, we're not going to have any water getting into our threads. Peel this off real quick. There it is. There we go. Now, we're going to put this down into place like so. Then, we can go ahead and take our bolt. I'll show you guys real quick, actually. We have our larger bolt right here and we're going to have a locking washer along with just a normal washer on there. I'm just going to put that through. We are going to push it through that seal that we put on and then we have our tool that comes with our kit. We can start screwing that down, like so. We're actually going to tighten these down to the torque specifications in our instructions. Now, I'm just going to get it nice and tight on there. Now, we could do that same exact process for all four of our sides. What we just installed, that is going to stay there. That's pretty much there for the long haul but when we're not using our bars we do have little cap with the bolts and then two washers here. What that's going to be for is, just so when we're not using it, it's going to thread in real nicely, like a 10-millimeter socket will , that's one thing that I really like about this system is just, look how clean it looks. I mean, we have a little bit of that bolt sticking out, but other than that, I mean, it's something I wouldn't think is an eyesore. Whenever I'm going down the road and I see somebody with this, I think that's a super cool addition just because you can leave it there once you're done. Now, what we're going to do is take our rails, remove the caps if you haven't already and then we're going to grab our feet. You can grab your keys that come with the kit and just take that cap off real quick. Make it easier. There we go. Now, what we want to do is, we're going to slide this T-track accessory on to our bars here. We might have to loosen it a little bit and of course, just pay attention to, obviously you want the outside lip facing the outside. That's what we're going to do right here. I'm going to slide it on like so, and then you can go ahead and put your cap back on. Take our included tool here and tighten this down, just so it's not sledding around a whole lot, just like so. We could do that same exact thing for the other side and our other bar. Now, with our bar fully assembled, we can go ahead and put it up on our roof.I usually step up here and it's just going to lay real nicely into these feet and trust me, you'll know. You'll feel it seed down real nice. Give it a good shake. Of course, it's not fastened down yet, but just to make sure it's seeded in the right place and we can go ahead and grab our hardware. What we're going to do here, there is going to be a hole on the bottom end here. I want to just fish it through like so. We're just going to take this bolt that is included with our kit along with a washer and a lock washer, and just seed it down into that little groove the best we can. That's why I lift up a little bit. All right, cool. Like that. What we're going to need is actually a 10-millimeter wrench to start fastening this thing down. I do suggest getting one like the one I'm using here just to make it quick and easy.Alrighty. Pretty much good there. Now, just grab your cap. Put it in there like so, like that twist and it's pretty much good. Give it a good shake. Make sure it's not coming loose or anything like that. We can do that same exact process for all four of our sides. Well everyone, that just about does it for our look at the Rhino Rack Roof Rack System on our 2019 Toyota Highlander.

Excellent product, very, very, very, easy to install, the videos help, looks great, I thought I was going to remove the bars and use the covers when the bars are not in use, but they look great, so I will leave them on :) . I will add some photos on my next review. 628771

2020 Mazda CX-5

Easy to install on Mazda CX-5-used a measuring tape, utility knife, small wrench, and flat screw driver (taped end to remove roof weather strip) . A second set of hands was helpful as well. I did have to drill a hole into the weather strip so that it fits over the attachment bolt. My first time installing a roof rack. It’s light weight and doesn’t create a lot of wind noise. The bars themselves have a weatherstrip you install which I’d rather was not the case due to Human error-longevity of weather seal. I’ll be using it to transport a kayak. We’ll see how long this holds up. 819077

2019 Toyota Highlander

I recently purchased the Rhino rack below with these boat supports: Rhino-Rack Nautic 581 Rear Loading Kayak Carrier - Saddle Style - Rear Loading - Channel Mount Item # RR581 Also, I attached a Yakima Jaylow kayak carrier, all to a 2019 Toyota Highlander Hybrid. On the 54 inch aero bars, I was able to carry a Hobie Compass Duo kayak (35" beam, carried flat on the Rhino pads) and West Marine Pompano 120 (28" beam, propped up as shown on the Jaylow racks). To have enough width, the Jaylows and the Rhino pads are mounted as far out as they can go, and the straps are looped back under the rack pillars on the car. The bow and stern were secured with hood loops on each side (front diagonal straps on the Hobie), on the front placed under the hood where shown (this is the only place I could find a good metal-metal contact under the hood, and no electronics in the way), and in the back, tucked under the rear door. We did a 500 mile round trip to the beach and back, with no problems at all with the mounts. Little noise, no movement. My only recommendation is to figure out some kind of load assist for the large tandem kayak, to make it easier if one of the folks loading is under 5'8" in height or so. We worked it out, but only after a few failed attempts (especially when the boat is wet, and loaders are tired). Carol C at etrailer provided thoughtful, expert, and knowledgeable tech support for our purchase. Many thanks! 670561

The Rhino rack is a little more expensive than other racks but well worth the price. The rack arrived UPS earlier than was first quoted. It took about an hour to install and fits perfectly on the wifes 2015 CRV. She loves the look and the quality makes the car look better. 917236

We got it installed and it has works just fine. It will not be that easy to take off and re-install though. It seems like this kit was not really intended for the 2019 CR-V since when the posts were installed, the cross-bar attachment "tongues" tilted down somewhat. With enough effort tightening the top bolts they pulled up flush to the bars and seem fine. This seems kind of kludgy for a design however. I would have expected them to install such that the attachment points for the cross bars would have been more parallel to the roof of the car. This setup means constant stress on those metal components - perhaps that is intentional, but it means that pulling the bars and re-installing them so the car can go through a car wash will not be much fun. 766797

- RRRCL4
by:

What more to say except they are still up there? I appreciate the ease of removal for these cross bars, yet a year later I have felt no great need to remove them. They look much better than the factory bars and have a distinctive yet complementary look with the vehicle. 762647

The roof rack I recommend is the Rhino Rack part numbers # RRVA126B-2, # RRRCL4, and # RRRCP27-BK for if the rails have a chrome center section that run down the middle of them or the part # RRVA137B-2, # RRRLKVA, and # DK234 if the rails are solid black without the metal center...

  • Recommendation for a Kayak Carrier to Carry 2 Kayaks on a 2014 Honda CRV
For a kayak carrier, I recommend the Yakima JayLow Carrier, # Y04073, for your CR-V. The Yakima JayLow carrier can carrier up to two kayaks and includes tie-downs for secure the kayaks to the roof rack and to your vehicle. The rack has a capacity of 110 lbs for two kayaks and your crossbar spread must be a minimum of 24 inches. Before you can mount a kayak carrier on your 2014 Honda CR-V you will need to make sure you have a roof rack with crossbars installed on the vehicle. If you...

  • What is Crossbar Spread of Roof Rack that Fits 2018 Jeep Compass
The roof racks that attach to your 2018 Jeep Compass all use the factory fixed mounting points that are present on the roof so the crossbar spread will be set at 49 inches like what you'd get with the Rhino Rack part numbers # RRVA126S-2, # RRRCL4, and # RRRCP64-BK installed. There wouldn't be a way to narrow that down when carrying a kayak carrier like the Thule Hullaport part # TH848.

  • Easily Removable Roof Rack Options for 2014 Honda CRV w/ Flush Mounted Roof Rails
The flush roof rails on your CRV will have a total of 8 roof rack mounting holes located on the inboard side of the flush rails. Once the protective cover is removed from each hole, the rack can be installed. The Thule AeroBlade Edge roof rack you referenced, part # TH7602-TH7603 can be removed between uses by removing a total of 8 Allen screws. The process should take about 10 or 15 minutes after the initial set up. The AeroBlade Edge provides a great looking roof rack, and the aerodynamic...

  • Availability of Aftermarket Side Rails for 2019 Chevy Equinox
Roof side rails aren't available as an aftermarket product for your 2019 Chevy Equinox. This might be something that Chevy could provide you with as a factory/OEM product but it's not a component that's typically available for any vehicle (not just your Equinox) in the aftermarket world like what you see with crossbars. If you are wanting to add a roof rack system to your Equinox we do still have some great options that are designed to mount to the naked roof. For this I highly recommend...
