Video Transcript for Rhino-Rack Crossbars and Pioneer Platform RCL Legs Review

Hey guys. Today we are going to be taking a look at the RCL Legs for Rhino-Rack crossbars. These are what would attach your crossbars to your fit kit that mounts to your flush-mounted rails. Now they're designed to work with a wide variety of fit kits which, in turn, allows it to work with a wide variety of vehicles with flush-mounted rails. It raises that crossbar up about an inch-and-a-half, which should be more than enough clearance for things like your sunroof, those clamp-on accessories, or anything else that you want on your roof.It features a locking cover. Two keys are included. What's nice about this is, it's going to prevent anyone from removing that single bolt, which allows them to remove the roof rack system.

So it adds a little bit of security. They are constructed out of a UV weather-resistant glass-reinforced nylon. This is what most roof-rack systems are made out of. When everything is in place as it should, you can rest assured your accessories and your crossbars will remain in place. Now we've got it paired up with the Rhino-Rack fit kit and the Rhino-Rack Vortex aero crossbars. Now they'll also work with your heavy duty crossbars if that's something you're interested in.

You will, however, have to pick up a spacer block, which is sold separately, right here at etrailer.com, so check that out.Now it can also be paired with the Rhino-Rack Pioneer Platform if that's something you're interested in, where the crossbars can then be mounted to the platform itself. You'll also need the RCP Fit Kit which is sold separately. Here on the inside, it features two compartments. The included Allen tool will stow until it's ready for use.So here on the white table, we'll show you how the RCL leg slides into the channel on the bottom of the crossbar. This will be the same for that heavy duty crossbar, except for that you'll need that spacer that we talked about.

Once the RCL legs are loosely installed on the crossbar, we can then adjust it on our roof.I've got the fit kit already installed on my vehicle. You can find your specific fit kit through our fit guide here at etrailer.com.

While I like the rack, the whistling from it is HORRIBLE at highway speeds. Also, the "Secure Core locking endcaps" are easy to remove (by simply pulling on them) even after "locking"... seem pretty worthless to me and wonder how long they will stay on the bars when traveling. Overall, the rack seems sturdy, and will serve its purpose, but removing it when not in use is going to be a huge pain, and wondering if it is really worth having. I had hoped after reading the reviews and description that this would be fairly aerodynamic and quiet... I was wrong.

Comments
You mentioned that you are hearing the whistling noise while driving and that the end caps are easily removed. I would recommend adding a fairing such as part # RRVA-LEC4
Rhino-Rack Locking Endcaps for Vortex Aero Crossbars - Metal Cores - Qty 4
$32.00
that would help reduce the whistling noise. For the end caps you can consider part # RRRF3
Rhino-Rack Fairing for Roof Racks - 44" Long
$104.00
which are upgraded metal versus the plastic locks.

Rhino rack crossbars restrict moon roof operations when installed (will only open half way) on a '18 buik enclave. Not a deal breaker but something we were not aware of at purchase when researching available options for our make and model. Crossbars fit and work as expected and I do like the lower profile look over the factor sourced options I see on road

I purchased the full set of cross bars, legs, end caps, kayak carrier, and antenna mount for my 2019 Grand Cherokee. I am pleased. These products are by far one of the best after market items you get. The quality is top shelf. Thank you etrailer for carrying these products from Rhino Rack.

I like the racks. They were extremely difficult for Me to install. I had trouble getting them to line up from left to right with the factory holes on my Honda Crv Touring. Also, I am getting a great deal of road noise but I am afraid to remove them for the summer in case they are difficult to reinstall for ski season.

Good Service. These were purchased as lower profile legs for Aero bars or a platform. They fit backbone roof castings by trimming the small tabs, sanding the base flat and crafting rubber gaskets.

Easy to install on Mazda CX-5-used a measuring tape, utility knife, small wrench, and flat screw driver (taped end to remove roof weather strip) . A second set of hands was helpful as well. I did have to drill a hole into the weather strip so that it fits over the attachment bolt.
My first time installing a roof rack. It’s light weight and doesn’t create a lot of wind noise. The bars themselves have a weatherstrip you install which I’d rather was not the case due to Human error-longevity of weather seal. I’ll be using it to transport a kayak. We’ll see how long this holds up.

I had tried to buy OEM Cross Bars for my '21 Cadillac XT6, but no one had them, and it looked like a long term problem of availability from Cadillac. So- after ordering and receiving some cheap bars that the ad on (that auction site) said were a "perfect fit", and finding them to be 1/2" short of reaching between the rails, then returning them for credit (but not for the shipping!), I contacted etrailer.

I have a Thule Cargo Box that I bought from them in 2016. I use this for one long trip (1900 miles each way, every year.)

Kaylyn at etrailer researched quite extensively for cross bars that would meet my needs: strong, nice appearance and above all quiet! She got back to me a day later, recommending Rhino Rack Aero Bars, and the attachments as being the best available. She cautioned me that (like any aftermarket bars) they would not be as quiet as OEM flush fit bars. I value honesty.

I installed them, and found the kit to be very complete. See the pictures- it looks great as far as I am concerned. And they are virtually silent at up to 70 MPH (I'll try them faster when we leave!). One caution: do not forget the plastic "Measuring Strips"- they are IN the bars, and are marked for measuring. But the real purpose is to seal the BOTTOM of the cross bars to eliminate "loud whistling"- ask how I know.

Instructions could have been more clear. The drawings didn’t match what I was sent, and I needed a specific small wrench to get these secured onto my car. I couldn’t use a standard socket wrench, which is what was called for.

Great rack except for the annoying wind noise. Any ideas as to how to fix or at least reduce the wind noise?

Comments
One way to reduce the noise from your roof rack is by using a fairing, like the Rhino-Rack Fairing for Roof Racks - 44 Long Part # RRRF3
Rhino-Rack Fairing for Roof Racks - 44" Long
$104.00
.

Review from a similar RCL in Roof Rack

I recently purchased the Rhino rack below with these boat supports:
Rhino-Rack Nautic 581 Rear Loading Kayak Carrier - Saddle Style - Rear Loading - Channel Mount
Item # RR581

Also, I attached a Yakima Jaylow kayak carrier, all to a 2019 Toyota Highlander Hybrid.

On the 54 inch aero bars, I was able to carry a Hobie Compass Duo kayak (35" beam, carried flat on the Rhino pads) and West Marine Pompano 120 (28" beam, propped up as shown on the Jaylow racks). To have enough width, the Jaylows and the Rhino pads are mounted as far out as they can go, and the straps are looped back under the rack pillars on the car.

The bow and stern were secured with hood loops on each side (front diagonal straps on the Hobie), on the front placed under the hood where shown (this is the only place I could find a good metal-metal contact under the hood, and no electronics in the way), and in the back, tucked under the rear door.

We did a 500 mile round trip to the beach and back, with no problems at all with the mounts. Little noise, no movement. My only recommendation is to figure out some kind of load assist for the large tandem kayak, to make it easier if one of the folks loading is under 5'8" in height or so. We worked it out, but only after a few failed attempts (especially when the boat is wet, and loaders are tired).

Carol C at etrailer provided thoughtful, expert, and knowledgeable tech support for our purchase. Many thanks!

Review from a similar RCL in Roof Rack

I had to replace the Thule rack on my 2019 Santa Fe to mount a roof top tent. I like the Thule it's a good rack system and it's quiet, but as it turns out the weight capacity was too limiting. I switched to a Rhino rack.
The Rhino rack kit was super easy to install. I was surprised it was much simpler than the Thule. The Rhino rack is rated at 165 lbs, which is an additional 45 lbs of weight capacity. I went with the solid black instead of the aluminum. It looks better on my Santa Fe. The Rhino rack is a little nosier than the Thule, but I should be able to correct it myself by covering the exposed channels.

There's one lesson learned I'd like to pass along. When you see a Roof Rack advertised on any website (including the manufacturer's)pay close attention to the total load capacity. You'll often see the limit for the cross-bars used as the weight capacity. However, if the mounting kit has a lesser load rating that's the total load capacity. For example: the Thule cross-bars were rated at 220 lbs but the mounting kit was rated at 120 lbs. (net 120 lbs capacity) The Rhino cross-bar is rated at 225 lbs and the mounting kit is rated at 165lbs (net capacity 165 lbs).
Either way you go, you can't beat etrailer for customer service before and after the sale.

The video on etrailer says that the top of these rails sit just under 4 inches from the roof of a grand cherokee. In fact the rails are just over 4.5 inches. Our extra low profile roof box bumps the weather stripping above the garage at this height. This will work since the only other option is not parking in the garage but it would have been nice to have the correct information. I also expected the locks on the platforms and endcaps to be matched. Also not a big deal, but it would have been a bonus to have just one set of keys. Overall the rack seems sturdy and high quality. It was a pain to get the mounting screws on the rails aligned just right. This is a jeep issue but it would be nice to have a bolt cover or other way to secure the entire rack to the car. As it is, anybody with a hex key can detach the whole rack.

Locks work very well. As advertised. Once the cross rails are installed these are easy to add at the end caps of the cross rails.
