exposed racks crossbars on a hardtop

Rugged and built to last, this roof rack system from Exposed Racks is a perfect fit for your outdoor lifestyle and an excellent complement to any Jeep. Thanks to the incredibly simple, no-drill installation, you'll be carrying your rooftop tent and recreational equipment in no time. These crossbars install over your hardtop.

Click-In Accessories Attach in Seconds

exposed racks click-in accessory mounting holes

This system includes click-in mounting points, which let you use accessories from Exposed Racks that make it easier to load up gear for your trips. Unlike channel mounted accessories on typical crossbars that use bolts, clamps, or knobs, these click-in accessories install in just a few seconds. They simply push into the mounting points and lock into place using push pins.

exposed racks with paddle holder click-in accessories

From load stops to paddle holders, these easy-to-use accessories ensure you can carry a wide variety of cargo. You can also adapt carriers and mounts from other brands so they can take advantage of these mounting points, using Exposed Rack's diverse selection of mounting plates. The plates have channels, similar to some crossbars, that allow you to mount your accessories directly to them. Once the accessory is installed on the plate, simply drop it into the bar's click-in mounting points. The rack also accommodates clamp-on carriers that are compatible with square crossbars.

Attaching a Rooftop Tent

This roof rack is capable of carrying a rooftop tent that uses clamps to attach to crossbars. By following the tent manufacturer's instructions, you can install your rooftop tent to the front and rear bars using the clamps and hardware included with your tent. The middle bar doesn't connect to the tent, however it does help support the tent's weight. Also, each crossbar uses weight distribution feet that help evenly disperse the load across your roof.

Since these crossbars use click-in mounting points, you have the option to use 6 Exposed Racks mounting plates (ER93FR - sold separately) to attach your rooftop tent. This lets you easily detach your tent from the roof rack, so you can quickly free up the crossbars for other cargo when needed. The plates use the included hardware to connect to the tent rails, then drop into the mounting points on the bars. The middle crossbar's plates don't install to the tent, but they serve as a spacer and help support the weight.

Simple, Quick No-Drill Installation

This system installs over the hardtop on your Jeep Wrangler JL, JL Unlimited, or Jeep Gladiator. Using only hand tools, the brackets install to the side gutter rails. Then, the weight distribution feet are screwed into the threaded holes on the bottom of each crossbar. Lastly, the crossbars are placed in the brackets and tightened down with the included hardware.

Video Transcript for Exposed Racks Jeep JKU Hardtop Roof Rack Review

What's up everybody it's AJ with etrailer.com today we're gonna be checking out the exposed rack roof rack system. It's going to be a three bar system. That clamps on to your rain gutters on your Jeep Wrangler, JK unlimited. So it's going to clip in here you don't have to permanently mount anything so there's not going to be any drilling any holes it just goes right here, it's easy to put on easy to take off when you don't need it. Let's check it out. Now, if you're looking at this and you have a different model of the Jeep, we do have other options on our website check that out, even if you have a Jeep gladiator Expose Racks does make a version for that too.

As I mentioned before it is a three bar system that's going to help you out with longer items or a smaller rooftop tent because you got to remember when you're jumping up there that's extra weight. The center bar is going to help you out with that. Now it can handle up to 165 pounds dynamic weight. So that's moving weight, static weight is harder to figure out there's too many variables and it really just comes down to the way the weight's distributed. Something to help out with those heavier loads that you're going to put on here or are these pegs it's going to help just be another contact point to spread out that way on the bars.

And the same is going to be for the weight distribution feet. Those are going to come down here make contact with the roof. And with that center bar, you put that tent on there. This is going to spread that way out for that static weight just to help you out because you know you're going to have all that weight. You don't want it all come down in one place.

This is going to help make all that contact across the roof and keep it evenly spread. Something I will note though, is that if you're buying the system and you don't have any accessories yet for it, a good option would be they make another version of the exposed rack that has holes in the top. Allowing you to add their accessories to it. So you can add load stops, kayak carriers, stand up paddle board carriers, paddle holders, all that on the roof, in the built-in slots. So if you're buying a roof rack system and you don't have the accessories yet, I would go that route because it's way easier to set that up on this.

The whole thing has been made out of a black powder-coat steel. And you can see that here with the design, it fits on really well. The portion that goes in the rain gutter would be the bracket here. It goes down in there, it's got a foam. So it's going to protect that rain gutter and the foot is going to be the same thing. Just tightens down here really easily. But as I shook it before, I'll show you again. It's in there nice and tight there's no rattling. I really liked the way it sets and use that. The other thing I like is that it just looks like it belongs there. It looks factory. It doesn't stick out. It goes with the hard top. It just looks like it should go on a Jeep. That's compared to some of the other rain gutter roof rack systems that I've worked with. They usually have plastic pieces out here or a big hand knob that kind of just sticks out and it doesn't look like it belongs on a Jeep. I liked that it was really easy to put on there. It's going to be just easy to take it off if we want it off the top of the hard top. That being said of things I think its going to be a great addition to your Jeep, especially with all the different accessories you can haul at the top. Well, thanks for hanging out and I hope this helps..

Review from a similar Exposed Racks Roof Rack in Roof Rack

I bought the ER rack for my 2011 2-door Jeep JK. It is high quality, sturdy, and very quick and simple to install or remove. I have used it to transport my windsurf board and mast 20 - 30 times at highway speed with no issues.

Rack spacing for a 2-door Jeep is 24 inches, which is adequate for my 9.6 ft board.

Note: I had to buy nuts and extra spacers to bolt the front rack to my Jeep frame. Since I bought the Jeep used, it's possible that some pieces had been removed from the rollbar.

Comments
This is a great Jeep rolllbar! It attaches securely and is quick and easy to attach remove. I rely on it to transport watercraft safely.

Easy install, perfect fit. Mounted my ski rack and was able to clear the garage door. It would not clear with the Thule load bars. the low profile is quieter too.

Review from a similar Exposed Racks Roof Rack in Roof Rack

So far, so good. Just received these and they appear solid and beefy-they are heavier than most. The package they came in was mutilated and had obliviously been re-taped. Both of the cardboard tubes had their end caps blown out and the cross bars loose in the package probably caused the damage to the box. To their credit, only 1 of the plastic end caps showed slight damage. Both inner boxes containing the mounting brackets appeared to have been cut with a box cutter. The bolts used to connect the brackets to the crossbars were missing. I called customer service and was told replacements would be shipped. I have not yet received them and as such have not mounted the rack on my ‘21 Gladiator and cannot speak to the process or fit. UPS has done the testing on the finish and I’m happy to report the crossbars passed! I’m looking forward to the increased versatility these should provide.

Excellent customer service! My initial order arrived missing one of the two pieces shipped. The box the piece was shipped in seemed to have gotten mangled in transit and the piece was missing. I worked with the folks at etrailer and they promptly shipped me the part again…received it yesterday!

Everything that etrailer was involved in was awesome. Great communication. The only negative was the condition of the exterior box and how the carrier handled the package. The external and internal packing had been damages by the carrier.
