This semi-custom SportRack roof rack easily installs on your vehicle's bare roof so you can carry extra cargo to your next destination. Adjustable, rotating footpads combine with an easy-to-use numbering system to make the rack conform to your roof for a good fit.

A unique numbering system is inscribed on the crossbars to aid in installation. This system corresponds to numbers noted in the easy-to-read application guide. First, find the number indicated for your car, and then slide the roof-rack feet along the crossbars until they line up with the appropriate number for your application. Tighten the feet in place with the included Allen wrench.

Refer to the application guide to find specific measurements that allow you to properly position the rack on your roof. To begin installing the roof rack on your vehicle, open the passenger's- and driver's-side doors. Place the front crossbar first, and make sure that the screws that hold the clamps in the roof-rack feet are loose before positioning the feet on your roof.

Before attaching the clamps to the door jambs and tightening them down, you need to make sure that the feet and pads are oriented correctly. The bottom of each foot can be rotated to better fit the slope of your roof. Make sure that the feet are sitting flush against the roof.

Once the feet are properly positioned, attach the clamps to the door jambs and tighten via the screws in the feet. After the front crossbar is positioned, review the instructions for the measurements needed to place the rear crossbar and repeat the same process for that crossbar.

Once everything is tightened down, place the locking covers over the feet to deter theft of the rack.

Video Transcript for SportRack Semi-Custom Roof Rack for Naked Roofs Review

Today we'll be reviewing the SportRack Semi-Custom Roof Rack System for Naked Roofs. This economically priced removable roof rack system is going to clamp to your vehicle's naked roof. It's got a square bar design with a steel construction so it's going to accommodate a variety of accessories such as bike racks, ski carriers and cargo baskets just to name a few. You're going to get two crossbars. This is going to support your accessories. You're also going to get four feet, two per crossbar. The feet are going to have the nice coated clamp so it's not going to damage your vehicle.

You're also going to have the pad on the bottom of the foot to protect the finish that goes around the roof line of your vehicle. Each foot pack is going to have a lockable cover, so if we remove the cover it's going to expose the Allen bolt that secures the foot pack to the vehicle. Once you have that installed on your naked roof you place the lockable cover over the Allen bolt. That way nobody can gain access to it to remove the system from your roof, and it's going to come with a set of keys. Another great feature about this roof rack system is how easily adjustable it is. Now in the fit guide you're going to be able to find your particular year, make, and model. It's going to list some numbers that you can set your clamps at to fit your vehicle.

You're going to take the included Allen key, loosen up the Allen bolt, and then you can adjust this as necessary until you get the correct number to line up in this space. In order to install our roof rack system we just need to go ahead and open up our front doors. We'll do this on both sides. We'll place our front bar onto the front part of our roof. Now to ensure that we get this in the correct location you can refer to the fit guide to see the distance that you need from the center of the door jam to the center of the foot pack. All right, with this side in place we'll go over to the driver side and repeat that same process.

Now with our front bar set we can go ahead and remove the locking cover, gaining access to the Allen bolt. Take the included Allen key and tighten it down. This is just going to secure the clamp around the roof line of our vehicle. We'll want to make our way from side to side, tightening it a little bit at a time to get a nice secure fit. With our front bar secured we can go ahead and and reinstall our locking covers. Then we can get ready to put on our rear bar.

Then we can close our doors. As you can see, the clamp that goes around the roof line does not interfere with the shutting of our door. Now we'll place our rear bar onto the rear part of our roof. To make sure we get this bar in the correct position, another measurement needs to be taken. Again, you can find that in the fit guide, measuring from the center of one bar to the center of the other. We'll do it on both sides to ensure that our bars are parallel and that our feet are straight across from each other. All right, with our bars in place we can go ahead and repeat the same tightening process that that we used for our front bar. This system may require the SportRack Short Roof Adapter sold separately with part number SR1116 for shorter roofs or dramatically curved roof lines. It's made from a sturdy steel construction with a black plastic coating that's going to stand up well against rust and harsh UV rays. This roof rack system's going to offer a weight capacity of 130 pounds and the crossbars are going to measure 50" long, by 3/4" wide, by 3/4" tall. That's going to do it for our review of the SportRack Semi-Custom Roof Rack for Naked Roofs. .

cAfter a couple days of searching online for a rack system, reading reviews, comparing prices and even searching Craigslist and Ebay I settled on ETrailer Sr1002 for my 2005 Corrolla XRS, Rack with hauling my 12' fishing Kayak the main objective.. Product arrived on time with free shipping, Impressed with the initial quality of the racks right out of the box. Brackets and screws seemed of good quality and up to the task, Installed racks in 35 minutes and needed nothing more than a tape measure. and they were rock solid and could grab them and shake the entire car. I did watch the installation video a couple time while waiting for them which is time well spent. Off to my friends house to pick up my Kayak that's been sitting on her lawn since last fall. Lashed it down with nothing more than a couple ratchet straps and off I went down the road at 65 with no problems. Getting use out my Yak at a third of the price and gaining a lot of utilitarian use out of the grocery getter. Also called Eretailer as the price I paid dropped some $27 from time of purchase to delivery. Rep said they would refund the difference back to my card. As of this moment haven't seen the credit but certainly hope they'll make good on that sooner later. Either way its a good product at a fair price and I would highly recommend, 524190

I use the roof rack for carrying kayaks (1 or 2 at a time), 15' - 17' long. I slip foam blocks over the rack tubes (the kayaks rest on the foam blocks) and strap the kayaks to the tubes. The rack is the base component and it mounts securely to the car so I don't have to worry about the load. Mounting to the car is easy once you have the rack posts adjusted to the roof width. One allen bolt at each corner, 3-5 turns to tighten when mounting, 3-5 turns to loosen to remove. 5 minutes on or off, easy and quick. I am very pleased with the quality and function. 261039

2008 Honda Fit

I was skeptical about how this "naked roof" attachment strategy was going to work, but now that I've tried it out I feel OK about it. The rubber is pretty thick, so I haven't seen any scratch marks. Once you get it adjusted for your vehicle it's pretty easy to mount or dismount. The only complaint I have is that the doors "don't close right" when it is attached (at least on my 2008 Honda Fit Sport) -- they get forced slightly down, which probably isn't serious, but it isn't good for them either. This also means the weatherstripping doesn't fully seal, so I hear more wind noise when driving (not counting the noise the bars and bikes add). It hasn't rained on my vehicle while this is attached yet, but I wouldn't be surprised if a little water leaked through too. This is my first rack mount, and all in all I'm satisfied with it. It was a reasonable price, was easy to install, and doesn't feel like it's going to loosen up and fly off. 138909

Hi Jacob, The weatherstrip that is getting folded on your fit is actually a water diverter strip designed to gutter the majority of water away from the main sealing weatherstrip. One is mounted on the door and one is mounted on the body of the car. You will be fine in the wet weather.

Still working fine though it has caused the weatherstripping water diverter material on my 2008 Fit to sustain some slight damage beginning to break.

---These were installed on a 2009 Hyundai Elantra--- First off, I guess I didn't read properly when I ordered because I was surprised at the quality of these bars when they arrived--I wasn't expecting such solid-feeling, quality metal! These puppies are heavy for their initial appearance! Anyways, I installed them myself in less than 15 minutes! Super easy instructions. I also found the video provided on the website pretty useful, too, because I am no handywoman. After putting it all together, I climbed on my car and shook it by the bars King-Kong style. This test put more than the recommended 100lbs stress on it that the manual said it shouldn't exceed. Nothing budged except my car. I feel confident that these will really hold up! I plan on using a cargo carrier to move across the country on these bars. I was nervous when ordering that this wouldn't work out--but after stress-testing it a little and feeling how strong it is, I'm no longer worried. My one qualm was that the measurements for how far apart the grips needed to be spaced was wrong. The booklet said "18inches" (or 19, I cant remember) for the front and an inch less for the back. However, when I put them on my car, it was well over that, the front needed 23 inches on both sides, and the back was straddling about 23.5 inches on either side. But, my car is relatively new to me, so it's pooooossssssiiiiibbbblllleeee that my car is a "sport" version or something like that. Lastly, customer service was great. I got a call that they couldn't ship to my PO box, and the guy on the phone was friendly and kind. After fixing that, my order was shipped within like two hours which was so impressive and pleasant! Thanks, etrailer! I'll be back for anything else I could need--you all made it so painless and worry-free for me! (Feel free to use photos as you wish.) 284830

The rack is awesome. I ended up using it to hold my car-top carrier as I moved from Indiana to California. I drove about 2,200 miles with it over six days through heat, wind, and rain. It held firm the entire time not budging even a millimeter. I was impressed with how firm it stayed despite the load I put on it. I also appreciated the lock covers over each side attachment for extra security. We stayed in some interesting areas during the move, so the little bit if added security helped me sleep better. I am definitely holding on to this rack, and should I need to get a new rack for my other car, I will be shopping through your store. Thank you for your quality car rack and customer service. :

I installed the SportRack on my Hyundai Elantra last week. The SportRack is more expensive than the cheap roof racks on Amazon, but much less expensive than Thule or Rhino. I was pleasantly surprised at how solid, rugged, and heavy duty the SportRack is. It was easy to install - no extra tools needed; SportRack included an Alan wrench. Like all roof racks that attach to the door frame, I noticed more road noise - because the rack allows a small gap in the door seal. However, the noise was not worse than the expensive roof racks. My first trip from Utah to Arizona was thru a blizzard, then hail, then rain until I reached Arizona and the sun came out. The small gap in the seal did not let the rain in - pleasantly surprised. I recommend this roof rack to car owners that need to haul big items on a little car. 479079

Hey its george right? Um i did just recieve the product, it didnt come with a allen wrench like the pictures said and i was looking through my tools for one for like an hour but thats no worries, the roof rack does interfere with my doors a little you have to push a little hard to close them pretty much slam them but im not worried to much since its an older car they are mounted really tights i could shake the whole car and they wouldnt move I am satisfied with them i do want to loosen them and try to get the rubber piece back into its spot. I initially got them ao i can put a snowboard mount on it so I dont have to stuff my snowboard into my trunk this year. Oh I think they actually look really good on my car too. 315894

Very solid and secure. I'm impressed! Must say I had my doubts but this product but it performs beyond my expectations. We needed a second roof rack system to shuttle our kayaks back to the "put-in" after paddling down river on the Chattahoochee. We originally purchased a Thule system for my girlfriends wagon at [...]'s garage sale and found fold down kayak holders at another garage sale months later. That left the rigid stand up kayak holders (that you see in the pics) just sitting around. This etrailer.com roof rack works great for our needs, is easily removable, and super economical. Happy kayaking! 258108

Roof rack is in great shape after one year. Looking to get some help as we have lost the keys to remove. Can replacement keys be ordered? 489119

Comments
SportRack is owned by Thule, so Thule replacement keys will work in your SportRack roof rack. Next to the key slot in the lock, there should be a 3 or 4 digit number. Use the prefix THKEYN in front of that number to find the part number of the replacement key youd need. Just type that part number in the search box on our website, and you can order the replacement key.

I like the design. One of our cross members did have a significant gouge (straight out of the box) in the plastic casing that wraps the cross member but I didn't have time to return it before I needed to use it. It is pretty sturdy system overall but the clamp's design does not force each clamp to pinch as much as it should. As the clamps are tightened, they begin to stretch and slip up off of the car's overhead structure. The design should have an additional adjustment on each end that cantilevers the top of the clamp to pull out on the top which would force the bottom to pivot/ push into the car more. I was worried during our travel that it would be jolted and then slip off of its install point. So the install would require the installer to place the assembly, tighten each opposing cantilever adjustment while simultaneously and incrementally tightening the other adjustment crew for snug fit in the vertical direction. 144184

2008 Honda Fit

This is a great rack. We are very happy with it. The cost is great compared with the popular brands. It mounts so firm I can shake the whole car with it. There is a little wind noise above 60 mph but that is to be expected. There is a discrepancy in the instructions though minor. The pieces that hook into the door area are supposed to be flush with the car, per instructions. This can't happen on a Honda Fit as there is a ridge that prevents it. It is however very safe and secure sticking out a little. Not really a problem but I could see how some people might think they have a problem. 213013

Glen, does the roof rack interfere with the doors at all? Ive heard that on the fit, they get in the way of the weatherstripping and cause the doors to close a little funny. Can you confirm?ThanksJeremy

Hi Jeremy F., The weatherstrip does indeed touch the roof rack. It does indeed cause a VERY LITTLE pressure on the door. If I pay close attention I can feel the interference but it is so minor as not to hurt the door or weatherstrip. I worked as a mechanic for 30 years at dealerships and have seen this a-lot. Here is a way to look at it. If you are going to leave the rack on all the time it will deform the weatherstrip, you might want to see if the expensive ones have a thinner piece between the roof and weatherstrip. If you are going to take it off after the weekend then this is the rack for you. It will be fine. I know that Thule has just as thick of a piece and does the same thing. Hope this helps.

Took longer than expected (11 days) for the roof rack to show up but once it did I had it installed on my 07 Prius in about a 1/2 an hour . The quality far exceeded my expectations ! Seems to be comprable to a Thule rack at about half the price . Makes a little noise at highway speed but not too bad . I think I'll skip the fairing . Very pleased ! 80114

Its been a year since I installed the rack on my Prius. In that time Ive added a Thule Yak Stacker and have hauled 2 kayaks several times with no issues at all . I have also hauled 2x4s 20 miles down the highway with no problem . I left it on my car all winter long and it showed very little effect of having been out in its first NH winter. I m still very pleased and confident that I made a great purchase !

2008 Toyota Camry

For the price you can't go wrong. Pros: - Allowed us to carry double stroller, toddler mattress, and pack'n'play on roof from El Paso, TX to Disneyland in California without any issues. This gave us complete access to trunk storage for our luggage and other items. - Simple to use. - Very sturdy. - Looks pretty good on any car. Cons: - etrailer.com sent me a heavily used unit and charged me full price as if item was used. I didn't throw a big fuss about it because I figured we were going to bang it up anyway and they also gave me back 10% which was helpful. - The door clamps are too thick for Toyota Camry (2008 LE). You have to roll the windows down and pull from the inside as hard as you can or else you'll get tons of wind noise. - I followed fitting chart exactly; however, the rear measurements was no where close for proper fit for the rear fitting. I had to use 18" in back and 21" in front. The fitting chart suggested 21" and 21" but at 21" the rear bar wouldn't even clamp when the Allen screw was all the way down. Higher quality bars with smaller/better fitting door clamps would have been nice, but we only intend to use this once or twice a year for camping so going for a budget option was a good choice for us. If you plan to use them a lot, and you have a 2008 Camry LE, I would consider investing more on a better fitting unit for this particular car. Without pulling from the inside, the wind noise was so loud I couldn't talk to my wife sitting next to me without speaking loudly. To some that might not be ideal. 470580

The rack came in super handy because it fit our Honda. We used it quite a bit for skiing last season. It’s easy to install. I’m not sure the installation instructions were super accurate with our Honda. I had to adjust from what the measurements were. Overall this is a quality after market rack for your vehicle. 734702

We got this on our Acura in 30 minutes. It is sturdy on highways fully loaded (within weight limit). Minor wind noise along windows since seal is affected, but we aren’t bothered by it. The rack is used daily. Great product for the cost! So glad we didn’t buy the expensive models when this meets all our needs! I hope to report back in a year that we are still just as happy with it. We also bought the Malone pads and strap system to hold our boards and sails, and it’s working well. 692035

Not very easy to install. The directions/ sizing/ measurements for my 2010 Chevy Malibu on the sheet were not right. I had to mess with it on my own to make it fit. This is pretty difficult to do alone. Be careful with the back part of your car; this rack may not fit if your car frame starts to get too wide. That being said, I managed to figure it out after messing with it for a long time, the rack seems sturdy and supportive, I will follow up with this review 682103

This rack is junk, it will scratch your car and doesn't allow for your doors to shut properly. As for the quality of the rack and the hardware, At least half of the hardware that came with the rack was stripped when I opened the box and the other half of the hardware stripped as soon as you put a wrench to it. The Bars themselves are fine but the mounting feet suck. Save your money and buy a good rack (Yakima, Thule, Rhino Rack) 674141

Works well for the price. We have used this rack on a few trips to carry two kayaks on a small hatchback (see photo) and it remained perfectly attached the entire time. The only issue was a small amount of rainwater entered the vehicle where the clip is pressing the weather seal down above the door. I suppose this is unavoidable when retrofitting a vehicle with something like this, and it really wasn't that big of a deal since most of the time it isn't raining. Also, water does not enter when travelling at highway speeds since it doesn't have time to collect. 674099

The # SR1002 is a semi-custom roof rack that has your 2010 Chevy Malibu listed as a fit. This is a 40" wind deflector which should work well with your 50" crossbars, though to make sure you will want to measure the distance between the feet of your SportRack to ensure there is enough room. There is...

I completely understand wanting to know exactly what you are ordering before it arrives. It comes with 2 cross bars that are 50 inches long, 4 feet to mount the bars to you roof, 2 per cross bar, and an allen wrench to tighten everything up. The SportRack being semi-custom was designed to fit as many vehicles as possible, a custom fit roof rack system will...

  • Lower Priced Roof Rack for 2006 Honda Accord for Thule Hullavator
The price of the Sportrack roof racks makes them very tempting but due to our experiences with them I don't ever recommend them. Since they are semi-custom and were intended to fit as many vehicles as possible we've found that more often than not they don't fit very well and would not be the best choice for a Hullavator # TH898 which due to it's design really does not a very solid base to fit and work well. For a similar square bar rack that is much higher in quality, is custom fit...

  • Recommended Roof Rack and Kayak Carrier for a 2007 Buick LaCrosse
In order to carry a kayak on your 2007 Buick LaCrosse you will first need to start off with a roof rack for which I recommend using the SportRack Semi-Custom Roof Rack part # SR1002 because it is a great, easy to use, price-point option for you. Then, in order to secure your kayak you can use the SportRack Kayak Carrier with Tie-Downs part # SR5512 or the SportRack Kayak Carrier with Tie-Downs part # SR5511, whichever you prefer. If you have multiple kayaks though you would want to go with...

  • Replacement Key for a Sport Rack Semi-Custom Roof Rack System
You have two options. The first is that if there is a number on the front of the lock, you can replace the key by searching "THKEYN####" in our search bar, where #### is the number on the front of the lock. If you have less than three numbers, don't add any zeros. For example, a cylinder labeled "012" will be part # THKEYN012 The other option is to replace the entire lock assembly with part # 05011500000, which will include two keys for the lock. If the box is currently locked,...

  • Roof Rack Recommended for a 2011 Kia Optima
We do have roof racks that will fit your 2011 Kia Optima but SportRack roof rack # SR1002 will not fit. I recommend Rola roof rack # 59896. It is not too much more in price, you get superior aero bars, locks are included, and it is a true custom fit roof rack and not semi-custom like the SportRack. The linked video shows the features of this style of roof rack even though it is not the same part number.

  • Recommended Roof Rack and Carrier for 2 Kayaks Transported on 2007 Honda Fit
To carry two kayaks on your 2007 Honda Fit you will really want to choose a custom-fit rack that is designed expressly for your Fit, rather than a semi-custom rack like the SportRack # SR1002 that fits many different vehicles. To transport the weight of two kayaks (easily 80- to 100-lbs total) you need a rack that mounts to the car very securely so a custom-fit option is the way to go. It is also a good idea to check the Fit owner's manual for its roof's weight carrying capacity. The...

  • Recommended Air Screen Wind Fairing for SportRack SR1002 Roof Rack on 2003 Chevrolet Malibu
All roof racks do make noise. At highway speeds especially the least-noisy bar type is the elliptical shape, also known as an aero-style bar. These make less noise than round and square bars but they still make noise. We have a solution for your SportRack square bar rack # SR1002. We offer a fairing from SportRack's parent company, Thule, that will fit on your # SR1002 square bar roof rack. My SportRack contact suggested Thule's 44-inch AirScreen Fairing # TH8702. This will fit well...

Yes, the Thule J-style kayak carriers will fit on the SportRack roof rack part # SR1002 that you referenced. Thule roof racks commonly use square bars that are almost identical to these Sportrack bars so basically all of the carriers were intended to be used on square bars just like this.

  • How to Carry Two Kayaks on the Roof of a 2008 Honda Fit
To carry kayaks on your roof you're going to need a roof rack and a carrier to go with it. The most popular roof rack for your 2008 Honda Fit is the SportRack # SR1002. This rack installs on the naked roof using clamps that attach to your door jambs. The crossbars are 50 inches long and it can support up to 130 pounds. It also includes locks to secure the rack to your car's roof. In addition to your roof rack to carry both of your kayaks I suggest the Yakima BigStack # Y04041. This...

  • Cross Bar Measurements to Install SportRack Semi-Custom Roof Rack # SR1002 on a 2011 Honda Civic
You are correct, the front cross bar should be at the 21 inch setting while the back should be 20 inches. The distance from where the doors meet should be 10 inches and the distance between the cross bars should be 25 inches measured on center. This rack has a capacity of 90 lbs. Since this is a semi-custom roof rack the install can prove to be more challenging than other rack installs. Try to use the Sportrack recommendations, they have worked for other owners of your vehicle so they...

  • Roof Rack And Carrier For 2 Kayaks Recommendation For 2005 Honda Accord 4-Door
For your 2005 Honda Accord 4-door, I recommend the SportRack Semi-Custom Roof Rack, part # SR1002. This easy to install roof rack has adjustable footpads, and when used with the numbering system inscribed on the crossbars, makes the rack easier to install on your Accord. You will not be able to use the sun roof on your vehicle when the roof rack is installed. I recommend the Thule The Stacker, part # TH830. I do have a cost effective roof rack option for your 2019 Honda Civic Hatchback with a bare roof but the SportRack Semi-Custom Roof Rack for Naked Roofs part # SR1002 is not a confirmed fit. Instead, I recommend using the Inno Square Crossbar System part # INB137, part # INSUT, part # INK684.
