Video Transcript for Thule Force XT Rooftop Cargo Box Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Thule force XT rooftop cargo box; part number TH6358B. A family of five can fill up your vehicle pretty quickly, leaving little to no room for suitcases, sports equipment, skis, snow boards or any other gear or luggage you might have with you. A rooftop cargo box is your best choice for adding vehicle storage. It's also going to be great for keeping that wet and muddy gear out of your vehicle, or anything else that could potentially damage your interior. The Thule force XT offers 18 cubic feet of storage space, it's 82 and 3/4 of an inch long by 33 and 3/4 of an inch wide and 17 and 1/4 inches tall. If your main focus is skiing or snow boarding, you're not going to have any problems carrying five to seven pairs of skis, or three to five snow boards. If you're interested in golf, you won't have any problem carrying two bags with clubs.

The Thule force has a locking cargo box, the nice thing about this is no one can get inside of it and steal our things. To open it up, we'll take one of our keys, insert it and we'll turn the knob, then we can just push open the lid. The strops on either side of the lid are going to help keep your box open, this is going to make loading and unloading easy. Here on the inside of the box, as you can see we've got more than enough room to carry plenty of gear. It includes three load straps connected to anchor points. This is going to help contain our cargo and prevent it from shifting when we're on the road. One of its best features is, it can be opened from either side.

We'll simply close up this side, and then head on over to the other side. It opens the same way on both sides. This makes loading and unloading even easier, that way you can have it positioned anywhere on your roof and still access your gear. Another thing to think about is, if you're on the side of the road and you wish to be on the opposite side of traffic, you have that option.I've gone ahead and removed my gear so we can take a closer look. Now as you can see it has that same shape and design as most rooftop cargo boxes.

Here you can see our anchor points for our load straps, there are three on each side. It attaches to our roof rack system using four power grip mounting clamps. This makes installation fast and easy. They clip in place within the channel over the cross bar, and then we can tighten them down. Each clamp has a power click torque indicator that lets us know when it's properly torqued down around our cross bar.Once we've got it al the way tight, it clicks.

Here underneath, you can see how it clamps around our cross bar. They are universal, they're going to work with your round, square, arrow, elliptical in most factory roof rack systems. It's going to work with a cross bar spread between 23 and 5/8 and 35 and 1/2 inches. When positioning the box on your roof especially on a Crossover or an SUV, you want to be mindful of your rear hatch. The clamps can be adjusted within the channels allowing the box to go forward or backward. The Thule force XT is a premium rooftop cargo box. It has a few unique features that other boxes don't have. One being the pull strap to close our lid rather than having to reach up over top or try to struggle with pulling it down this way, we can reach our strap, pull it down to close our lid. Another one is our lock, it's a safety feature. With the lid open, we can't lock it and we can't pull our key out. When it's properly secured, we can then properly secure it and then remove our key. This is great because we won't accidentally lock the key inside of the box and we won't attempt to try to open the other side which could potentially damage the box. The whole box is made up of a rugged ABS plastic so it's going to be resistant to impacts and UV rays. The lid itself is a textured black arrow skin. The nice thing about this textured finish is that if it does get scratched, it's not as visible or as obvious compared to a box that has a gloss finish. Now there are other options for your roof besides a cargo box. You could get a cargo bag or a cargo basket. The disadvantages to a cargo bag is, it's not as weather resistant and it's not going to last as long. If you choose a cargo basket, there's no protection and there's no security. Like all roof mounted accessories, we're going to get some wind noise and drag. The Thule force XT's aerodynamic design is going to help minimize that. One last great feature is, Thule stands behind their products, this box features a limited lifetime warranty. And that's going to complete our look to Thule force XT rooftop cargo box; part number TH6358B.

Review from a similar Thule Force XT in Roof Box

I ordered it on Friday Morning and it was in the driveway Tuesday morning. Mounted it on a 2016 Chrysler Town and Country. 1. Its water-proof. The first thing I did was wash the van and box. Not a drop inside. Went on a 3500 mile trip through rain, fog, and snow. Again, not a drop of water inside. 2. It's easy to mount. I had help putting up on the van with the factory bars. I was able to take it down and put it back up by myself. The clamps click in and are very secure. I chose this model because it was 10 pounts lighter than the other unit I was considering (Y07337). 3. Everything on the van still works. The XM sat radio works as usual. The sun roof and rear hatch open and close without any problems. Plenty of clearance. 4. The cargo box doesn't vibrate or shake the vehicle. I didn't notice any noise at highway speed either. If I pulled back the sun shade on the sun roof, I could see the front slightly bouncing, but not enough to cause any problems. I did lose 1 to 2 miles per gallon, which was to be expected. It's fairly aerodynamic as the van still seems to get up to speed even with 6 people and all their stuff on the wheels. 5. The latches take a bit of practice close and lock. I found that If I clamp the top and bottom up front with my free hand, I can lock it with ease. The top is a little flexy, but once closed the box is very sturdy and stiff. 6. Positive extras: you get 3 long tie down straps and 6 anchors in the box. There is even a short strap that held the clamps for shipping. You can find your vehicle in a crowded parking lot, just look for the black turtle on your car/van/truck. You get two keys, so stash one in the glove box. 22 cubic feet is a lot of space. It really hellps to clear up the interior of your vehicle. 7. The are a couple of issues. The van/box is about 7 and a half feet tall. Some parking structures, drive throughs, and low hanging branches will cause problems. I had to get a 3 step ladder to get access to load and unload the box. Finally, with all the weight, the head lights were up a bit, so I got the high beams flashed at me a couple of times. The air bags they sell here are a good future project. 613889

  • Thule Roof Box Compatible with Factory Roof Rack on 2018 Honda CR-V with Sirius Antenna
The Thule Force XT Rooftop Cargo Box - 18 cu ft - AeroSkin Black # TH6358B fits maximum crossbar dimensions of 3-1/2" wide x 1-11/16" tall and requires a crossbar spread between 23-5/8" and 35-1/2" on center. It also requires 51-1/8 inches between the front crossbar and the line where the roof and hatch meet to confirm there won't be contact with the hatch and you will have full access to your rear cargo. Thule does not confirm the fit, so I recommend taking the measurements to see if...

  • Comparing Rhino-Rack, Thule, and Yakima Roof Mounted Cargo Boxes
The Yakima and Thule roof mount cargo boxes are the major players. Rhino-Racks are still fairly new to the US market but are bigger overseas. Probably the most popular is Thule which is what I would go with. The boxes are all fairly comparable in terms of features and quality. The major differences, apart from appearance, is the way the boxes attach to the roof rack crossbars as well as the bar spreads they will fit. The Thule and Rhino-Rack boxes use what is essentially a claw that...

You also need the legs # RRRLKVA and fit kit # DK400. The Rhino-Rack is a good aerodynamic system that reduces wind noise, looks nice, and doesn't break the bank. • Measuring to Determine Which Thule Cargo Boxes Fit a Lexus RX 350
Front overhang for cargo boxes is not an issue of concern. The area of concern is the back of the vehicle. Things like antennas and rear hatch doors can interfere with the cargo box.
