Video Transcript for SportRack SkyLine XL Cargo Box Review

Today we're going to be reviewing the SportRack Skyline extra large cargo box. This is a roof mounted box with 18 cubic feet of space. Part number SR7095. This roof mounted cargo box is going to provide enclosed storage for your gear. It's actually going to offer 18 cubic feet of space. The single-side opening lid is going to let you conveniently access your cargo from the passenger side of your vehicle.

The Skyline box is going to provide two locks. This is going to ensure that your cargo is safe and that the box is locked to the roof rack. Here on the floor of our cargo box you're going to find a nice, textured surface. This is going to help prevent any of your gear from shifting around during travel. Here on the inside of the lid, going around the perimeter right at the curve is going to be a weatherstrip material that you'll need to install and that's just going to prevent any water or anything from being able to leak into the box keeping your gear nice and dry. At the front and rear of the box is going to be a spring-loaded hinge.

This is going to allow for easy opening and closing of the box. You can see that when we get it open it's going to snap into an open position holding itself open. And then when we close it, it releases shut which allows easy closure of the lid of our box. Also at the front and rear of the box is going to be a nice, snap lock lever. It's got a hook that goes on the front and top portion of the box. Push it shut.

Snaps into place which is ultimately going to secure the lid of the box to the bottom keeping it nice and tight. This box features an aerodynamic shape that's going to help reduce drag and wind noise on your roof. This box is made from a high-density polyethylene construction. It's going to add stability and durability and it's also UV resistant. This box offers a weight capacity of 110 pounds, but keep in mind that you do not want to exceed the weight capacity of your vehicle's roof. Now the box only weighs about 32 pounds, and when it comes to the external dimensions it's going to measure 54 inches in length by 39 inches in width and about 19 and a half inches in height.

SportRack covers the SportRack Skyline XL cargo box with a limited lifetime warranty. The universal mounting hardware is going to allow for a tool-free installation. Now let's take it out and see it in action. Now we're going to show you how to install the box onto your roof rack. Couple of things to keep in mind while installing this, this box is designed for round, square, aero, elliptical, and most factory roof rack systems. You just need to make sure that your roof rack system or each crossbar doesn't exceed a width of four inches and you need to make sure that you have a crossbar spread of 21 and a half inches from the center of your front bar to the center of your rear bar. We have a square bar system on our vehicle today. So we're going to go ahead and place our box directly onto our roof rack. Once we have that positioned where we want it, we can go ahead and grab our hardware and move to the inside of the box. We're going to take one of our U bolts. This is going to go around the underside of our front crossbar. And then we're going to push it up through the slots in the bottom of the box. Now we'll take our mounting plate, place it over the exposed bolt ends, and then we'll secure it by threading on a couple of the included wing knobs. This is going to tighten that U bolt around the underside of our front load bar which is going to secure the box to our roof rack. So once we have this one installed, we can repeat that process for the other three clamps. We found it helpful to have somebody help you hold the U bolts through while you get the hardware loosely installed. Now we're just going to go around to each location and make sure that our clamps are all the way tightened down. Now that it's fully installed, we can go load up our gear. We can close the lid of our box. And then we can use the latches for further security. There's going to be one located here at the rear and one up towards the front. That's going to complete today's review of the SportRack Skyline XL cargo box part number SR7095. .

SR7095 installation was a breeze for two people. Initially, I was setting it up solo and it was a bit challenging. Otherwise, OMG, tons of space. Best buy for the buck. Definitely would recommend to all if space is your concern. 543182

The roof box is sometimes difficult to open & close. It takes 2 people to mount it in the roof mounts. You have to climb on the roof & reach inside to tighten the bolts. A carrier that opens on both side would be easier to mount & load. The latches on the front & rear are hard to latch. Overall it is good but it has it's flaws. 304939

The Skyline Sport Rack is lightweight, but sturdy. It mounted easily on the rack. My husband and I recently traveled to the APA Nationals Championships in Las Vegas. We were their for eight days and the cargo area of our CMax was FULL. The cargo box performed beautifully. Thank goodness it holds a LOT of stuff. Our car was packed! We were very pleased with our new cargo box. One word of warning though . . . it does reduce gas mileage so watch your gauge. Of course this is to be expected as it does increase drag. Overall though, well worth a few less miles per gallon. 226424

If you have a 2012 Chrysler Town and Country, with factory cross bars, yes the box will fit according to the Sportrack fitguide.

Will this fit on a 2004 Honda Accord that has a Yakima roof rack?

-- comment by: Larry - 07/22/2013

If your Accord is a 4 door, your crossbar spread is 32 inches. That is from the center of front bar to the center of rear bar. If you have a 2 door, the measurement is either 18 inches or 28 inches depending on whether a Stretch kit was used. The largest spread this box will accommodate for round or square bars is 23-5/8 inches, the smallest is 19-5/8 inches. None of the configurations would fit the Sportrack Box. You would need a box with a more adjustable mounting system to accommodate your fixed bars. Let me know if you have a 2 or 4 door model and if you used a Stretch kit if it is a 2. Then I can help you find a box that will work.

  • Are My Cargo Carrier and Cargo Bag Too Close to Exhaust Output on 2019 Honda CRV
  • I've seen some customers who have had limited clearance between a cargo bag like the etrailer Cargo Bag # 988501 and their exhaust system and have not reported any damage to the bag since the wind will help dissipate the heat. These bags are fairly durable, but direct contact would give me more concern that exhaust is not being allowed to adequately escape, which could cause issues with carbon monoxide or issues with the functioning of the vehicle. With that being said, if you have a...

  • Replacement Key Needed for SportRack Skyline XL SR7095 Roof Cargo Box
  • In order to get the correct replacement key, you'll need the key number. The key number is stamped on the face of the lock, right next to the key slot. The key number will be a 3 or 4 digit number, you'll just need to add the 'THKEYN' to the number on your lock, and that would be the needed part number. In the photo I provided, you can see that the lock number is 2809, so therefore the correct replacement key would be THKEY2809.
