The Upshift lets you transport 1 bike on your roof rack crossbars. This unique rack has an upright arm with a locking, adjustable clamp that holds your bike securely by the downtube. Universal hardware mounts to most crossbars, and the upright arm folds down for storage when not in use.

Adjustable Upright Arm

This rack has an adjustable upright arm that fits various bike shapes and sizes. The arm grabs your bike by the downtube, and a padded clamp with locking hand knob secures your bike to the rack.

The upright arm folds down when it's not being used. Folding the arm increases overhead clearance, so the rack can remain installed in a garage or other low-clearance areas.

Sliding Wheel Straps

Cinch straps let you quickly secure your front and rear wheels to the carrier. These straps slide along the wheel tray so that you can carry bikes of different lengths.

Universal Mounting Hardware

The Upshift easily installs on your crossbars with universal mounting hardware. U-bolts and hand knobs secure the wheel tray to your front crossbars, and a clamp-on bracket with hand knobs secures the tray to your rear crossbars. The rear clamp can be installed at different points along the tray to fit various crossbar spreads.

Video Transcript for SportRack Upshift 2 Bike Rack Review

Today, we'll be taking a look at the SportRack Upshift 2 Roof-Mounted 2-Bike Rack, part number SR4883RP, also available in a single bike, part number SR4883. This frame-mounted bike rack is going to allow us to carry 2 bikes safely and securely while we're on our trip. It will fit round, square, elliptical, and arrow, and most factory roof-rack systems. It also features 2 adjustable arms that come up and grab our bike's downtube and lock it securely with these hand knobs. When they're not in use, they fold down for storage. It also includes these locking hand knobs. When we get them all tightened up, for extra security, we can lock them, and they're just at a free spinning state when they're locked, so they will not come undone.

It includes sliding-wheel-cradle straps that when slid underneath the tire, the strap comes up and through the spokes, and tighten that down with a nice buckle. It's made out of a solid-steel construction with a nice black-powder-coat finish, so it's going to resist rust and corrosion. It has a weight capacity of 45 pounds per bike and also features a limited lifetime warranty. Another great thing about this roof-mounted bike rack is the spacing between the 2 bikes, so if you're looking up at our handle bars, you'll notice they're not coming in contact with another. The universal clamp-on mounting hardware attaches to most load bars. The overall dimensions of this roof-mounted bike rack are 57-1/2 long, 28-3/4 wide, by 25 inches tall. Now that we've gone over some of the features, I'll go ahead and show you how to install it.

The first thing we'll need to do is we need to set it on our roof rack. We'll just slide it over. Now, since it's a 2-bike rack, we want to make sure and center it up with the top of our vehicle. That way, we can get to it from both sides. All right, now, the next thing we'll need to do, now that we've got it up there, is we need to get our clamps around our load bars. I've left them together, but we'll only need to remove one side of the bolt in order to get our clamp around, and I'll show you how that's done there.

I'm just pulling that out of the way, moving the clamp around, then setting it back down, and then bringing the clamp underneath. Then I'm going to replace that bolt. All right, and before I tighten that down, I'm going to repeat that same step on the other three sides. Once we've got all our clamps around our load bars, then we can take our included Allen key and tighten them evenly around. We'll tighten it up on this side a little bit. Then we'll come back to the back side.

You want a nice snug fit around the bars. All right, once we get this tightened up, we'll go around to the other three clamps and tighten those down, as well. Now that we've got those tightened down, let's go ahead and throw a bike up there. Now, we'll need to make sure that our strap is slid all the way forward and undone. Same with back here, make sure the slider is all the way back. Undo the strap. Then for our clamp, we'll make sure that this unscrewed and ready to receive the frame of our bike. We'll grab the bike, set it in the bike rack. Then we'll raise up our frame hook and set it right about that position. Once we get in this position, we'll just go ahead and tighten it down. Once we have it nice and tight, we'll be able to let go of our bike and then do our straps. All right, that looks pretty good. You can see the bike is nice and tight to our bike rack. Then we'll come over to our front-wheel strap. We'll slide the slider so it's just underneath the tire. We'll bring our strap through between our spokes, up through the buckle, and then back down through, and pull that nice and tight. Let's go ahead and do that same thing for our rear wheel. All right, now that we have one bike up there, let's go ahead and throw another one on the other side. Now that we've got both bikes securely up here, let's go ahead and take it out and see how it performs on our test course. First, let's go into our slalom. This is going to show side-to-side action, such as going around corners or evasive maneuvering. Then onto our alternating speed bumps. This is going to show a twisting action, such as going over uneven pavement or potholes. Then finally onto our solid speed bumps. This is going to simulate pulling in and out of a driveway or going over speed bumps. That's going to do it for our look at the SportRack Upshift 2 Roof-Mounted Bike Rack for 2 Bikes, part number SR4883RP. .

The SportRack Upshift Bike Rack went together with no problems. After just returning from a camping/riding trip, we have not used it on the road as of yet. It does look to be good and solid. One comment on the instructions however. The exploded drawing on Step 3 of the instructions is misleading. The Part H as shown in that view goes on the outside of Part B; it actually fits on the inside of that member (B). it appears to be correct in the assembled view, but should be corrected on the exploded one. Anxious to try it out! 257657

The bike rack was packed well and shipped quickly , the product description was good , it holds my 27.5 full suspension MTB securely however the jaws that clamp around your frame may scratch it this can be remedied with an old inner tube glued to or wrapped around the jaws . Hope this review was helpful 283679

Good quality, fair price. Is a little difficult mounting the bike but with practice and a step stool you'll get it. 601341

Although the hardware to mount these two Bike Racks was provided for use on a vehicle's existing roof rack system, I mounted the base units on a cargo container attached to the rear of my RV. The Stow-Away container I have is mounted on a Swing-A-Way frame, so it can be swung out perpendicular to the rear of the van. This gives me easy access to the bike in the rack closest to the rear wall of the RV. Yes I have to remove the bikes if I want to open the cargo container, but otherwise great way to carry my two bikes on the rear of the RV. I also have a locking cable attached to the container so I can further secure the bikes while in transit; although the locking knobs on the bike racks works as advertised, and would deter most potential thieves. 158012

While I've only used this with my bike for about 100 miles it has worked well and I haven't had any issues, even when traveling 70 mph on the highway. The instructions are only pictures and can be a little difficult to decipher but not too bad. While I feel that a trailer hitch- or spare tire-mounted rack is more secure I've been pleasantly surprised with this rack. A good option for my 2014 Nissan Rouge Select since I couldn't get a trunk-mounted rack because of the spolier. This was also a cheaper option than installing a trailer hitch and then buying a hitch-mounted rack. 281015

Received the package in good condition. Inside were the two roof racks ordered inside of their original packaging. These roof racks require assembly...not too difficult if you have any knowledge at all of what a wrench and screwdriver are. The only thing I would have appreciated was having the head of the bolts that hold the tracks together not be a screw head, i.e. not require the use of a screwdriver, a wrench would have worked better. I believe the directions were prepared by someone that does not have English as a first language. The parts list said I should have more parts than were included and/or actually required. Approximately 10 minutes to assemble and a couple more minutes to install on the roof rack. The straps that are used on the front and rear tire when the bike is loaded do not cinch and hold....the only item I really don't care for on this product so far. Bikes are loaded for the maiden voyage to the bike trails........ And we're back......bikes made it to the trail and back home without falling off....racks worked well. One thing that was noted is that were our vehicle taller, or I shorter, a stool or step would be required to load and off load the bikes. Overall I am happy with the product for the price paid. 285031

Still working good. I replaced the straps that are used on the tires when the bikes are loaded. For the money these racks are a good buy.

Proud owner of 4 Sport Rack upright bike carriers now. Have 3000 plus miles on both pavement and mountain roads hauling my bikes around with zero issues. Very satisfied with product and extremely pleased with the level of customer service provided by etrailer. 425712

This bike rack is pretty good. It's easy to use. Installation was super easy, but best to install it in the shade as the sun really heats this rack up. The only complaint I have is that the end caps and the ties for the wheels have come loose when we didn't have a bike on the rack and we lost one of the end caps and the tie down. 279771

- SR4883
by:

Currently testing it out for its first run. Already had the rear end cap fall off while driving. The wheel stoppers slide which is necessary for adjusting to your wheels, however, if the bike starts pushing backwards (like while driving), the wheel stoppers slide with it. Wish the straps that hold the wheels were more secure but just a little wiggling and tugging from bike and they loosen while driving. Its not a bad looking rack and with some minor adjustments (superglue the end caps) and maybe getting velcro reinforcement straps for the wheels would help ensure that your bike isn't going anywhere. 289565

Its NOT!!! Its not that its a BAD product, its that it did not fit my rental car, and its just sitting now in my garage, unused/useable. I wish someone could tell exactly what cars it does fit so I can try and rent one of those. My ENTIRE bike trip was shut down because i could not transport bikes...

Thanks for the follow up Sandra, this bike rack is designed to fit vehicles with a crossbar system, either OEM or an aftermarket roof rack with crossbars. This bike rack will work with crossbars that are round, square, aero, elliptical, and most factory crossbars and up to a maximum width of 3-1/2 inches. I have included a help article that provides additional information about roof rack bike carriers for your reference. I hope this information helps. If you would like to send me your vehicle information I could definitely look into what roof rack options we offer for your vehicle.

We put three of these on the stock roof rack on a Chrysler Pacifica. Three only issue is reaching high enough to put the bikes on and off. We cut a piece of plywood to fit in the open side door and put the other end on a big cooler. Stand on the platform and it's easy to deal with the bikes. They traveled fine, 4 hours at 65mph. Drove around the beach for weeks with the empty racks on the van. No rust or issues from the salt spray. Will use again this summer vacation. 516605

So, my husband and I have had this rack for awhile now, and it works really great! We used it when driving from Philadelphia to Pittsburgh and had no problems. My only comment would be that the straps don't really do too much, but it's so secure without them that they're almost not necessary except to prevent the wheels from turning while driving. For the price, we would definitely recommend this product. 230606

UPDATE: Its been a year and we are still loving this product. I will note that we still dont really use the straps, and keep them in the glove box, just in case, but I would not recommend leaving them attached to the rack. I saw someone else comment that they lost end caps on the rack. We also lost an end cap, but this doesnt affect the rack in any way, so I will still keep it at 5 stars. Its a great rack, especially for the price, and I really like that I dont have to remove wheels to put my bike on it.

I upgraded all the bolts to grade eight bolts the only four original ones I used were the ones that hold the clamps to the crossbar. I also drilled holes through the crossbars for the center holes and ran bolts all the way through, you could hit some sweet jumps with the rogue and the bikes are not going anywhere. 249182

This rack is functional, but not designed so well. The portion that holds the bike at the frame is clumsy and not easy to use. Overall the rack serves the purpose... I only use a few times a year for travel. I would recommend an upgrade if you need a rack for daily use. 619218

- SR4883
by:

Gets the job done. But mine came with a none working locking knob (called and they sent me a new bike mount). As many stated before the rear end cap fell off the second day and since this cap limits the travel of the wheel stopers/straps it fell off as well. 515839

These are the bike racks for the roof rack on my pop-up trailer. If it was going to live on my car for everyday use, I would go with something a bit nicer, but they do the trick, and the price was right. I've never worried about stability, and I've been able to get my 29er and my 5 year old's bmx bike on the rack with no issues. (They work on all sizes) lock isn't great, but but I cable lock the bike to the rail if leaving it at work or something. 492353

Have only used these once last year for an epic road trip Colorado to Moab UT. We rented mountain bikes and took them to different trails. We had 4 adult bikes on the hitch rack and these two bike racks with 2 kids bikes on the factory roof crossbars of my '14 Dodge Durango (6 bikes total). They performed flawlessly. I was pretty nervous as these were some expensive bike rentals but they stayed sturdy. I would have given a 5 rating but there are a lot of little bolts and nuts to assemble and de-assemble that takes time. They performed as needed but I still prefer hitch bike racks for ease of loading and unloading. I'm old and short with a tall SUV... 392974

Product is priced well and built fairly well , but the instructions really suck! All you get are illustrated installation drawings that aren't completely clear and have errors. A problem with the instruction sheet. Step 3 shows the plastic frame clamps installed on the OUTSIDE of the rack arms. In actuality they are installed INSIDE the rack arms. First of all I'd like to say that I've done a lot of research on roof top bike racks and for the price this one is by far the best. I have a Jeep Commander with 3.5' wide cross bars and finding one that fits is a challenge. This one fits perfectly. I've only had it for a few days now and only hauled my bike on it once. Everything seems fine. I highly recommend this rack if you’re not interested in spending a lot. They can get expansive for the big name racks. I'd also like to say that the customer service people were very helpful with finding the rack that will fit my Jeep. 144925

First, you'll want to verify your vehicle's roof capacity prior to installing. The capacity will include the weight of the racks plus roof rack plus the bikes. For the roof rack, I recommend the Rhino Rack Square kit, consisting of: # RREB126B # RRRLKVA # RREB-FK1 # DK055 This installs a standard, square...

  • Roof Frame or Wheel Bike Rack for a Rhino Rack 2500 Series Roof Rack
  • I have a few solutions for you, but the Swagman Upright, part # S64720 is not compatible with the Rhino Rack 2500 series roof rack. The Upright only works with square, round and some factory bars. Instead, I recommend the Thule ProRide XT, part # TH598004. This rack is a frame mount clamp that will fit to the channels of the RhinoRack crossbars, part # RRVA118B-2 that you have, and provide a good, solid mount for your bikes. It doesn't include locks, but they can be added as part #...

  • Recommended Roof Rack for 2002 Santa Fe Pop-Up Camper
  • For your 2002 Santa Fe Pop-Up Camper, I recommend the SportRack Pop-Up Camper Roof Rack # SR1020. This system is specifically designed for pop-up campers and it features telescoping square crossbars that can adjust to 80 inches, 83 inches or 86 inches long. It will fit a maximum trailer width of 85-1/2 inches and provides a weight capacity of 200 pounds. Just keep in mind that it will not work with roofs that have rounded or curved edges. To secure your kayaks to the roof rack, I recommend...

  • How to Carry Four Bikes on 2008 Chevy Cobalt Sedan
  • If your Cobalt sedan is a Sport Model, I would recommend the Draw-Tite Class I receiver, part # 24756. For a non-Sport model, go with the Draw-Tite Class I, part # 24745. However due to the very limited weight capacity of the Class I receiver, both the hitch and bicycle rack manufacturers all agree that any bike rack used on a Class I receiver should not be used to carry any more than two bikes. Carrying additional bikes can place the weight of the bikes too far away from the hitch, causing...

  • Is It Possible To Fit 4 Bikes On Roof Rack of 2010 Dodge Journey
  • As long as your roof rack crossbars are at least 43 inches in length, you should be able to fit 4 bikes across. You might find you need to alternate the direction of each bike so that they can fit closer together. Since the bikes will be close together, I would not recommend the Swagman # S64720 roof bike racks. The wheel tray/base is made of metal that's pretty thin, which can allow the bikes some side to side movement. I'd recommend going with something like the SportRack Upshift Deluxe,...

  • Roof Rack, Kayak Carrier, and Bike Rack for a 1997 Jayco Pop Up Camper
  • For a roof rack for your 1997 Jayco 1207 pop up the Sportrack # SR1020 would be a great option. This rack is designed to fit pop ups like yours and has a 200 lb capacity like you said you need. Then for kayak carriers the Hullaport part # TH848 would be a great option. This is a j-style rack that makes for easy loading and unloading. Then for a roof bike rack you could use the Sportrack Upshift part # SR4883 for your bikes. This is a wheel mounted bike rack that will work with the...

  • Roof Rack and Roof-Mounted Bike Rack for 2010 Toyota Corolla
  • To carry a pair of bikes on the roof of your 2010 Toyota Corolla you will need a roof rack and two roof-mounted bike racks. For the rack I recommend the Rola Sport Series Roof Rack with GTX Mounting System # 59734, which is an economical option that will still allow you to use many different accessories with its 3-1/8" wide x 1" tall aero bars. You could then use a pair of the SportRack Upshift Roof Bike Rack # SR4883 which will clamp onto your Rola crossbars and secures your bikes by...

  • Will the Swagman Roof Top Bike Carrier Hold a 2-1/2 Inch Diameter Bike Frame on a Subaru Outback
  • I spoke with my contact at Swagman and the jaw on the Swagman Rooftop Bike Carrier, # S64720, that you referenced will not hold your 2-1/2 inch bike frames. We do have a number of other rooftop bike racks that will work for you. I would recommend either the Thule UpRide, # TH599000, or the SportRack Roof Bike Carrier, # SR4883. The Thule Big Mouth will accommodate bike frames up to 3-3/8 inches in diameter and is one of our most popular rooftop bike racks. The SportRack bike rack...

  • Carrying More than 2 Bikes on a 2015 Hyundai Elantra
  • Like you said the available trailer hitches for the 2015 Hyundai Elantra are all Class I hitches including # 24902. And as you mentioned Class I hitches are restricted to 2 bikes maximum. The problem is not the weight of the loaded bike rack. The issue is actually how far the weight is from the hitch receiver. A third or more bikes will be too far from the receiver, no matter how much the rack weighs, and this puts too much leverage on the receiver; the result being damage to the hitch...

  • How to Carry 4 Bikes on a 2017 Subaru Forester that has Factory Class I Trailer Hitch
  • There are a couple of issues that are going to prevent you from using a 4-bike rack in the factory hitch on your 2017 Subaru Forester. First is the short distance between the hitch pin hole and the face of the receiver. Basically because of pin location there won't be enough of the bike rack shank to fit inside of the receiver to safely use most bike racks. The other issue is that it is a Class I trailer hitch and they are limited to a maximum of 2 bikes no matter where the hitch pin...

  • Cant Crank Trailer Jack Handle with Bikes Loaded Between 2005 Ford F-150 and Trailer
  • I have some possible solutions for you. First, one option is the Bike Bunk, # CC-275. It mounts to the front of the trailer A-Frame up over the propane tank. The only catch is that it is rated for 100 pounds and the bike rack used has to be rated for use on a trailer. The combined weight of the bike rack and bikes will likely exceed the 100 pound capacity so you would have to put 1 or 2 bikes somewhere else. Another option is to use a tailgate pad such as # S64760 to hold the bikes in...

  • Roof Mounted Ski and Bike Rack Compatible with SportRack Roof Rack for 1991 Acura Integra
  • The SportRack Semi-Custom Roof Rack you mentioned, part # SR1008 is compatible with your 1991 Acura Integra if it is a 4 door model. If you have a 2 door model, then you will also want to pick up the SportRack Short-Roof Adapter part # SR1116. SportRack has a ski carrier, part # SR6466 as well the roof mounted bike carrier, part # SR4883. SportRack does not offer a fairing, so I asked my Thule representative if any of the Thule fairings would be compatible with the SportRack Frontier...

  • How to Carry 4 Bikes on a 2017 Mazda 3 Hatchback
  • There are a couple of things you should know. The most important is that all of the trailer hitches for the 2017 Mazda 3 hatchback are Class I hitches. This means that the most bikes you can carry on a hitch is 2 even if the bike rack can hold more. It isn't a weight issue but rather how far the weight will be from the receiver if a third or more bikes is added. In order to carry 4 bikes I recommend a combination of a trunk mount bike rack and a roof rack. Using the Hollywood Racks Over-the-Top...

  • Roof Mount Bike Racks for Use on a Space Trailer Roof Rack On Wheels
  • I am familiar with that type of trailer. We have one, the Yakima Rack and Roll, # Y08107, with 78 inch crossbars so it will be similar to your Space Trailer. On the 80 inch bars on your trailer you will be able to mount up to 7 bikes so your 4 bikes and accessories will fit. But In order to make sure everything fits I recommend using the single bike carriers rather than the double. Using all single bike carriers allows you to place the bikes closer together if needed. To avoid taking...

  • Can 3 of the SportRack Upshift Roof Bike Rack # SR4883 Fit on 30" Crossbars
  • The SportRack Upshift Roof Bike Rack # SR4883 is 8" wide so if the 30" of crossbar is within the legs of your roof rack that gives you 6" of extra room on your crossbar. Simply alternate which direction your bikes are facing and they should fit. You might be able to set them slightly closer than 8" depending on if the rear of your middle bike will fit under the handlebars of the bikes on the sides. If the 30" of your crossbars includes what sits outside of the legs on your roof rack...

  • Kayak Carrier And Bike Rack Options For 2014 Chevrolet Spark With Naked Roof
  • I did some research on your 2014 Chevrolet Spark and per the owner's manual it states that no more than 110 lbs can be carried on the roof or the vehicle could suffer damage. Carrying 2 kayaks would not be an option because the weight on the roof with the kayaks, roof rack, and kayak carrier would exceed the roof weight limit. If carrying one kayak is an option for you I recommend the Rhino-Rack RS 2500 Roof Rack, part # RRRS284B. This roof rack has quiet aerodynamic black crossbars...

  • Available 3-Bike Rack Options for 2010 Toyota Highlander
  • Due to the fact that the support hooks would need to attach directly to the glass in the rear tailgate, none of our bike rack manufacturers recommend using a trunk mount rack on your vehicle. The glass lacks the strength to support the weight of the bikes and the carrier, and could shatter unexpectedly. This leaves a roof mount or a hitch mount option. If your Highlander has crossbars installed on the roof, the SportRack Rooftop Bike Rack, part # SR4883 would be a good choice. The rack...
