Video Transcript for Rola Canyon Rooftop Bike Carrier Review

Speaker 1: So, you're in the market for a roof bike rack. Let's take a look at the Rola Canyon Rooftop Bike Carrier, part number 59404.This economically priced bike rack is going to carry one bike on the roof of your vehicle in the fork-mount style. It's designed to work with your 5 and 9mm forks, and mountain bike owners will love that it's going to work with disc brakes. Because of the raised skewer mount, you won't have any interference. The rear wheel is held in placed by a hook-and-loop strap. It's adjustable along the tray to work with bikes with different wheel bases. It's going to work with just about any roof rack system you have installed, your round, square, aero, elliptical, and most factory roof rack systems.

It simply clamps around your crossbar with the included hardware, and it even includes a security tool to make it difficult to remove. I've gone ahead and removed the bike, so we can take a closer look.Returning Rola customers will notice the color change in the new bike rack design. The silver power coat gives a stylish look while fending off corrosion. The low-profile design is going to help cut down on wind noise and drag. It has an overall length of 56", and it will support a bike's wheel base of up to 50".

It will support a tire width up to 3". It's a lightweight aluminum construction but still very durable. The bike you're loading up can weigh up to 40 pounds.Customers are comparing the Rola Canyon to the Rhino-Rack MountainTrail Rooftop Bike Carrier, part number RBC035. Both will transport one bike on the roof of your vehicle, support disc brakes, and will attach to most roof rack styles. The Rola has a weight capacity of 40 pounds versus the Rhino-Rack's 35 pounds.

The Rola works with 9mm and 5mm skewers, whereas the Rhino-Rack only works with 9mm skewers. The Rola uses a security bolt and tools to prevent theft while the Rhino-Rack includes locks. The hand knobs on the Rhino-Rack make it a bit easier to install. Now that we've gone over the features, I'll go ahead and show you how to get it installed. For this to work out, you need to be sure you have a crossbar spread between 27-1/2" and 41". I've already got it in place on my roof rack system where I want it, close to my driver side with the front clamp installed.

Let's go ahead and do the rear one together because it installs the same way.I'm going to pick up on it slightly, adjust my clamp around the crossbar, and then bring the other one. Now, I'll take my hardware and I'll insert my bolt on one side. It doesn't matter which side, put it all the way through, and it needs to come through the other clamp. Then, once it's in place, we'll grab the locknut and we're going to put it through the opening here on bottom. Now, you may need to slightly pull out on that bolt and put it back in place, and then you can start threading it in place. Then, we can take our included tool and tighten it down. Now, it came with two different tools. One we can do by hand and then one we can use with our screw gun. Now, using our screw gun makes it a little bit faster, so I'm going to go ahead and use that. Now, you want to be sure not to over tighten. Just get it tight enough to where it's snug around your crossbar. Perfect. Now, we're ready to load up a bike.We want to make sure that our skewers' opened up and that we've got plenty of room for our forks on either side. We'll also want to make sure that our rear strap is undone. Now, we can set our bike in place. We'll do the fork first, followed by the rear wheel. Then we can close up our skewer, and remember the idea is here for it to hold it nice and snug. We can slide our rear wheel strap back to where it's center with our wheel, bring our strap through, through the buckle and then back toward here. Just like that, we're ready to hit the road. Let's go ahead and take it out on our course and see how it performs. Here on our test course, let's first go into our slalom. This is going to show side-to-side action such as going around corners or evasive maneuvering. Then onto our solid speed bumps, this is going to show an up-and-down action such as pulling in and out of a driveway or out of a parking garage. Then, finally onto our alternating speed bumps, this is going to show a twisting action such as going over potholes or uneven pavement. Now you've had a good look at the Rola Canyon Roof Bike Rack, part number 59404.

Great quality. It's been one year since I've ordered this product and it is still going strong. I am a happy customer who will return for more products in the future. 660248

The security screws that require a custom wrench (that is supplied) are difficult to install or remove, the covered nuts are impossible to keep from rotating when tightening, I cut them off. 602852

An excellent choice for a bike rack would be the Rola Canyon Rooftop bike carrier part # 59404. I attached an install video for you to check out. Rola does not have a cargo box available but you can use any of the Thule boxes, see link below. This system has aero shaped cross bars for reduced wind noise/drag and channel mounts for use with most channel mounted accessoires. This option will also be far more cost effective than an OEM roof rack as I am sure you will come to find out.
