TieRod Head AssemblyTieRod Straps

With its unique, rubber-coated stainless steel front straps, the RockyMounts TieRod bicycle carrier boasts the ability to fit nearly all crossbars, whether they are round, square, aero/elliptical or factory.

The TieRod is easy to install and provides a seamless look on most factory and aftermarket roof-rack crossbars. Simply wrap the rubber-coated stainless steel straps on the rack's head around the crossbar and tighten the tensioner to take out the slack, ensuring a secure and strong hold. To attach the rear of the rack, slide the steel bracket into the channel on the bottom of the wheel tray. Align the low-profile steel clamp underneath the crossbar and tighten it to the bracket with the included Allen bolts.

TieRod Rear Wheel Strap

The TieRod has a ratcheting rear wheel strap that slides along the rack's wheel tray to adjust to different bike lengths, ensuring that your bike is completely fastened down.

TieRod Fork

This carrier's heavy-duty fork mount is designed to fit bikes with quick-release front wheels. Its disc brake cutout ensures that it fits both disc and standard brake systems. The standard-size (9-mm), quick-release skewer firmly grips your bike's front fork. The TieRod can be adapted to carry bikes with thru axles by using the DriveShaft fork adapter (RKY1081 - sold separately).

Deter the theft of your RockyMounts TieRod and your mounted bicycle with RockyMounts lock cores (sold separately). The cores are keyed alike and allow you to lock the bike to the rack and the rack to your roof-rack crossbars using 2 cores. Lock cores are available in convenient packs of 2, 4, 6 and 8, allowing you to lock all your RockyMounts racks with the same key.

This is an amazing, low profile roof rack. It is extremely quick and easy to load and unload your bike on this rack. You can tighten down the fork cam from one side, which, in my experience, makes it far easier to operate than roof bike racks that require adjustments on both sides of the fork mount. Just spin until tight, lock the cam down and, bam, the fork is secure. I also like the little metal nub that can be rotated around the top of the fork to help keep the bike secure in the event that cam lock fails. Gives me peace of mind. This rack also works great for both my road bike and my mountain bike.

- RKY1012

easy install. great price. First one took 5 minutes and the second one took 3 minutes. Just can't see spending the extra money on Thule or a Yakima. Just as good if not better.

- RKY1012

After a little delay in getting the rack to my door it went on to my 2016 Outback without much fuss. The biggest problem was compressing the bottom lock core tab so it would fit in the front cover location and then locking the cover once installed. Once I used a thin blade to hold it in, it fit enough to be inserted. I am able to fully open the rear hatch with the rack installed. I wish the rear clamp included rubber pads to help conform to the curved factory roof rack. And to prevent the metal on metal contact for the top half. I made my own spacer to prevent any damage.

Still hauling my bike after a year with the rack. I will occasionally lube the internals of the locking mechanism to make sure it functions as new.

Review from a similar TieRod in Roof Bike Racks

I like the bike rack; however, I have yet to use it! It appears to be well made and quite functional! I found the instructions difficult to read, as they were faded and hard to see!

  • Fork Mounted Roof Bike Rack Recommendation for 2014 GMC Yukon with Factory Crossbars
We have Yakima roof bike racks that are a fit for the factory rack of your 2014 GMC Yukon but I checked with Thule and they do not offer any fits for your vehicle. The Forklift part # Y02098 is available and a confirmed fit so it would be a great option that I would recommend highly.

  • How to Determine if RockyMounts TieRod Roof Bike Carrier # RKY1012 Would Allow Hatch to Open
The RockyMounts TieRod Roof Mounted Bike Carrier # RKY1012 could be installed backwards if needed to allow the rear hatch of your 2013 Ford Focus to open, but the overall length of the tray is 52-1/2 inches. You would need to measure from the front of your front crossbar back that distance to see where the tray would end up and if it would cause hatch interference.

  • Replacement for Older Thule Rooftop Bike Rack on 2001 BMW X5
Thank you for the photos and I searched extensively but could not find anything resembling the tightening wrench you have, either from Thule or other manufacturers. If not having this wrench is stopping you from using your bike rack, the best option truly is going to be a new bike rack, which you will be able to use for a long, long time and you have a number of options, depending on if you want something more cost-effective or something premium. For a budget-friendly option I recommend...

  • How to Mount a Bike to the Curt Cargo Basket # C18115
There are no bike rack attachments that were designed to fit the Curt Cargo Basket, # C18115, but if you use a bike rack like the RockyMounts TieRod Bike Rack, # RKY1012, then you can attach the head of the bike rack to the square bar and the rear crossbar mount can secure to the back rail of the cargo basket. Unfortunately the Yakima Boa will not fit around the round tubing of the Curt cargo basket. Curt's tubing is too small for the Boa to maintain a strong grip.

  • How to Carry 4 Bikes on a 2011 Volkswagen Jetta Sportwagen
All of the trailer hitches available for the 2011 Volkswagen Jetta Sportwagen are Class I rated trailer hitches. You are correct in your assessment that a Class I hitch can only carry a maximum of 2 bikes. The issue that you run into with a third or fourth bike is not just the weight of the bikes, but the distance that weight is placed from the trailer hitch. They put additional leverage on the hitch that it cannot support. It is similar to using a pipe extension on a wrench to break a...

I reached out to my contact at Thule and they said that they don't have a product designed to fit the Canyon Cargo Basket # TH859XT, however they also said that as long as you didn't alter the basket in any way you won't void any warranty by adding one. First, you should know that all of the trailer hitches for your 2011 Toyota Corolla are Class I hitches. This means that they can hold up to 2 bikes maximum, even if a bike rack can hold more bikes. So while you can use a Class I compatible bike carrier that holds 4 bikes, you would be limited to 2 bikes. To carry 4 bikes you would have to do a combination of a hitch or trunk mount rack and a roof rack. The least expensive route is to go with a trunk mount and roof rack. The most cost...

  • 15 mm Thru Axle Adapter Recommendation that Can Lock to Roof Bike Rack
This is a great question. Sounds like you are trying to determine which of the 15 mm adapters will allow you to actually lock the bike to the roof rack. Of the three you mentioned the only one that actually locks the bike to the adapter and then the adapter to the roof bike rack is the RockyMounts part # RKY1081. The rest are only adapters that allow the bike to fit the rack, but when our demo guy says the word lock he means it is clamped to the rack. Not locked like "theft-deterrent"....
