Speaker 1: Today on our 2015 Toyota Highlander, we're going to be doing a test fit on the aluminum roof mounted cargo basket. Part number 288-09200. This aluminum roof mounted cargo basket is the perfect addition to your Toyota Highlander. Not only is it going to free up space inside you Highlander, it's going to allow you to store those dirty, damp, or oversized items on your roof.When compared to other roof mounted cargo baskets, this one's going to be on the entry level side of things. It has no bells and whistles. But it's going to support and carry your cargo just fine.
Another great feature is, it's extremely lightweight. The Highlander sits kind of high. This is going to be no problem to install by yourself.It's inside dimensions are 40-1/2 inches long, 37-1/4 inches wide, and it's six inches deep. So you're going to have more than enough room for your cargo. It also has 150 pound weight capacity, though you'll want to be sure and check with your Highlander's Owner's Manual to see if your roof can carry that much.
The tubular design is going to give you plenty of options for a tie down point, whether it be a hook, or just a strap.Now, installation is very simple. The clamps that are included are going to work with your round, square, aero, and most factory roof rack systems. Our Highlander actually came with its factory roof rack system. I've got three clamps installed. Let's go ahead and do the last one together.
We'll start off by taking our plastic spacer, we're going to insert it underneath until it kind of clamps in place around the two bars here.Then, we'll take the top portion of our clamp, we're going to rest that over the two squares. Then we'll take the bottom portion of our clamp, now the trick is here, to save a little bit of time, is to already have one of the knobs in place. That way, you can just go underneath, set that first knob on top of the top portion of the clamp, come up with the other one, and then put that one in place.And then we can just tighten it down. Once it makes contact, we're going to tighten it down evenly with the other side. Alright, once you've got it nice and secure, it's not going anywhere, we're ready to hit the road.
And that's going to complete our test fit of the aluminum roof mounted cargo basket, part number 288-09200.

Interior measures 40-1/2" x 37-1/4".This is a great product. As described, easy to assemble, light weight. I needed a solution to carry my spare tire for my 2020 Forrest River NOBO 16.2. The NOBO line comes with Rhino tracks to put accessories on them. The camper has the tire mounted on the bumper, but I needed space for a bike rack. I ordered Aero Bars and mounts from etrailer, and this basket as well as the tie down. Worked Great!!!
This is a great basket! It's very light and durable. I can pick it up easily in one hand even though it's pretty big. I have this basket on my 2011 Yaris and it holds 3 duffel bags full of clothes, a folding vacuum, highchair, 2 camping chairs, a longboard, skateboard, a four foot folding table, and another smaller folding table. I've had a few instances where the basket slipped sideways but that was because of extremely hazards roads in Kings Conservation Area in California and getting ran over by half of a tree tumbling down the road and over top of my car in a down burst from a monsoon in Phoenix. This basket has seen about 8,000 miles through 24 states in the last year and I intend for it to see at least a dozen more this year.

This basket was so amazing, but I no longer needed it because I was upgrading to a bigger vehicle with no need for a roof cargo system. I sold it on [used items site] and put the money towards a new hitch for the new vehicle on eTrailer!
First impressions, 5 stars. I have assembled this and mounted it on the vehicle (2018 Highlander) and test rode it less any cargo. When I originally assembled it, it seemed easier to do upside down on a flat surface, but as I tightened the 16 different bolts, the frame was not flat at all four corners, unloosen bolts and it flattened out. So I opted to install it on the vehicle with the bolts/washers loosened, then once tightly flat at all four corners with the mounting hardware, I tightened the frame hardware. I have 8-foot garage doors, so I pulled the vehicle under the opened door and I have 22" clearance from the basket floor to the open door. Anyone wanting to load inside a garage should know your clearance so you don't damage the garage door or frame, or your cargo.
Even though this unit is aluminum, I will Permatex the openings and the bolts/washers with the recommended gasket maker. The frame itself is six pieces, both sides, two flat tray pieces, and the curved front and the curved back, and each piece has threads put together with 8 bolts/washers per side. The hardware kit must be used for other basket models, since there were four other bolts/washers/nuts and nut wrench not needed for this basket.
I can also see being able to secure several 2x4's front to back between the frame openings, for transporting from the lumber yard.
Installed this product on a small teardrop trailer. Took a 2000 mile trip to the Northwest four weeks. Held all my extra Goods with no issues great product. Etrailer has fast shipment and is very customer-oriented. Thank you etrailer
The roof cargo rack I ordered for my SRC Smittybilt roof rack is everything I wanted it to be. It will be a great benefit in my retirement as I spend most of my life Offroad in my jeep. Shipment was quick. xox xx
Good quality. Easy to assemble. I recommend this unit. I like how tall it is, 7 inches. Needed a rack on my luggage trailer for bulky stuff, like beach chairs.

Previously opened package. The only parts recieved were the the ones labeled A , B , C. Missing ALL hardware parts
Labeled D, E,F, G, H, I, J. Expect better from e trailer.

Easy install. Great fit for my Toyota RAV4.
Purchased this basket for my 2017 Subaru Outback. The basket itself is great quality - rugged, well put together, very light weight and accepts a significant amount of cargo. Improvement needs to be made on the hardware to attach the basket to the roof rack. It takes a solid 40 minutes just to attach the rack using the provided hardware. It would seem a simple snap on, not screw attaching hardware would make the rack more useful.

Ive only used this rack once or twice in the past year because of the time I know I will have to put into attaching it to my roof rails. Still not a fan of the attachment hardware which I feel takes too much time to put together and attach the rack. Nice rack though, just too cumbersome to attach to use routinely.
About 35 mins to install on my Ford Escape. Haven’t used it yet but it looks good and seems very sturdy.

Haven’t taken it off my truck yet, I use it almost weekly.
Did t much care to have all that weight to lift then drag around everywhere so I opted for this aluminum model. Suits my needs for inflatable boat, easy on my back to mount or store and if and when some p#$k steals it its not an economic crisis. Yeah, I'd go this route again.
I have an older Thule soft bag which I formerly used atop a minivan. It no longer works on my 2014 Ford Edge with factory roof rack and crossbars. I bought this basket to contain the bag, so that I can still use the bag on my Edge. The basket was shipped a couple hours after I ordered it. It arrived quickly. Package was in pristine condition. Basket was easy to assemble. It is VERY light weight. It should work for my application. I do not plan to leave it on my Edge. It will be for vacation use only. The integrity of a few of the welds on the basket looks marginal, but I think it will hold together for what it needs to do.
This is quality roof basket-
pros - nice light weight and very easy to assemble, good value for the money.
welds and paint job are fine.
cons- the basket when assembled is not totally flat on the bottom. What I mean is the 4 contact points where the basket meets the crossbars is not on one plane. This was not a problem for me since there was enough play in the factory crossbars on my Rav4 to accommodate the problem.
Had it been dead flat I would definitely rate it 5 stars.
Recently used this basket on trip from STL to Michigan. Performed as expected. Used Locktite on screws when assembling and had no issues.
Was strong enough to hold tension from bungees and tiedowns, Fasteners to crossbars did not loosen-all stayed in place after over 800 miles traveled.
This basket is very sturdy and an excellent value. The only caveat is that you won't want to leave it installed and unused because it does impact gas mileage significantly.
I have not mounted the rack yet, but it seems sturdy and extremely light weight. I live by the beach so I based my decision on that and bought this aluminum rack. The price was very good compared to Thule or Yakima racks. I rate this experience as a 4 because there were no instructions included and I was not able to find a pdf on-line, nor a video which showed how to assemble. I figured it out, the 4 nuts threw me off as you do not need them. I suggest putting a pdf instruction booklet on-line and also an assembly video. Overall, etrailer was great to deal with, shipping was fast and very cheap!
Good value, but be aware more for light-duty use. I made the mistake of bolting a section of PVC pipe to it to carry tent poles on a trip and the additional stresses cracked some of the aluminum welds. My fault. If used only with softer items contained within the basket all should be well. That's the trade off for a lightweight basket.
I have been dealing with etrailer for years and once again received a great product in a very timely manner, also as usual very well packaged. I ordered this rack first of all because of its weight. 24lbs! The cost also. So many pay high prices for a label. Not me. Very easy to put together on the kitchen counter and of course being so light easy to handle. An important aspect is, DO NOT tighten the bolts until you are totally done. Do not drop the bolts and washers in the channel! For that purpose I used a thin needle nose plier to hold the bolt and once lined up with the hole pushed it in with the tool suplied. I added a drop of Blue Loctite also to each bolt for a peace of mind. You will have left over nuts and bolts, no worries! Probably a uniform nuts and bolts package designed for a few different rooftop baskets. There is one error on page one of the instruction. The "Base PLatform" is the "Side Platform" [2] and the "Side PLatforms" are the "Base Platforms" [2]. It was easy to figure out the error. Thanks.
I prefer NOT to drive with anything on top of the vehicle unless necessary for many reasons. That being said, I did not require the use of the rack as initially anticipated; but, the rack was easy to assemble and seems quite adequate should I need it in the future. The purchase was easy, delivery prompt, light product; but as advertised and seems adequate unless overloaded.
Package was delivered in a box that was torn open during shipping. The nuts, bolts, etc fell out before it arrived. I called etrailer. They requested that I provide a picture of the damaged box and immediately put the accessory package in the mail. They were very helpful and kept me in the loop with the process via email. Great service.
I've been really impressed with this company and product. It shipped to me in no time at all and I had communication from etrailer every step of the way.
The roof rack is very lightweight, easy to assemble and looks great. There were instructions on assembly in the box (which from other reviews seems like that wasnt always the case).

I like this basket because of the price, its carrying capacity and the fact that it doesn't rust. It is lightweight so it is easy for me to place on top of the car and remove it by myself. I am giving it an average rating because of the following: It did not come with a built-in faring to improve wind resistance/aerodynamics, so I created my own with some plastic and tubing. It makes less noise because of that modification/addition. I notice that the basket still dramatically affects my gas mileage even when empty. Furthermore, the slotted flat metal tabs at the attachment points could be thicker. I added large flat washers to distribute the pressure across the notch in the tabs, but they still bend much more than I like when tightened. All the best to you.
Very good product. Good service too, they fixed a problem I had without difficulty.
Would just recommend that additional hardware be included because some of mine came defective which made the rack unmountable (stripped threads on a mounting U-bolt).
Very pleased with fabrication of this very lightweight but durable cargo basket. Ease of assembly and installation makes this product a very competitive item. Lightweight aluminum is strong and offers the benefit of allowing more storage on the roof as apposed to the heavier steel framed models.
