Rightline Gear Sport Jr on top of car

The Rightline Gear Sport Jr. cargo bag holds your gear securely on the roof of your vehicle. It can be mounted on the roof rack, cargo basket, or bare roof of most small, compact cars, wagons, and sedans. This premium, aerodynamic cargo bag is perfect for any camping trip, shopping spree, or family vacation.

PVC Semi-Coated Mesh XT

Closeup of Sport Jr. cargo bag material and inner PVC layer

The bag is made of PVC semi-coated polyester mesh XT. The material is treated with WeatherGuard waterproofing and blocks 98 percent of UV rays to help prevent fading. The PVC material is also strengthened with a nylon grid that helps prevent rips and tears. This waterproof fabric stays flexible in hot or cold temperatures so it can be folded for compact storage.

Watertight, Double-Sealed Seams

Closeup of Sport Jr. cargo bag seam and material

The bag has double-sealed seams to protect your cargo from the elements. The seams are sewn to reinforce the connections and then fused together to create a watertight seal that blocks out rain and snow.

Waterproof Zipper

Diagram of zip right zipper placement on cargo bag

The SZIP zipper is welded onto the surface of the bag and concealed under a layer of waterproof rubber. This gives the zipper more shelter from rain than ordinary under-the-flap zippers.

Loaded Sport Jr. cargo bag unzipped and on top of vehicle

The zipper also runs three-quarters of the way around the roof bag, so you can easily load up the bag or access your gear.

Versatile Mounting Options

Rightline Gear Sport Jr. cargo bag tied down to roof rack side rails on top of vehicle

The Sport Jr. cargo bag can be attached to a roof rack, factory raised side rails, or a cargo basket with the integrated straps. Simply wrap each strap around a solid anchor point, thread the strap first through the end loop and then through the buckle, and pull it tight.

Rightline Gear Sport Jr clips

To mount the bag on a naked roof, attach the 4 included car clips to the straps and hook them over the door frame weather molding. The hooks have 5/8" openings to fit over the door ledges. Your vehicle's doors should close easily over the hooks to secure them in place.

A roof pad (sold separately) is available to keep the bag from sliding around and to protect the top of your vehicle from scratches.

Locking Options

Zipper in the flap of Sport cargo bag

To lock up the bag, run a Rightline Gear locking cable (sold separately) through the cutouts in the zipper pulls. Then, if you want to lock the bag to your roof, run the cable around your roof rack rails.

Video Transcript for Rightline Gear Sport Rooftop Cargo Bag Review

Speaker 1: Today we're going to be taking a look at the Rightline Gear Sport 3 Rooftop Cargo Bag, part number RL100S30, and this install process will also apply to the Rightline Gear Sport 2 Rooftop Cargo Bag, as well as the Sport 1 and the Sport Jr. The Rightline Gear Sport 3 Cargo Bag is ready for carrying a wide variety of accessories, anything from sporting goods to camping gear from here to the site or your luggage across country. The best of this bag is, it can work with or without roof rack systems or in cargo baskets. This is made from a waterproof PVC material, and that coupled with the flap for the zipper as well as the double-sealed seams here, that's going to help keep your gear clean and dry. The polyester material also resists cuts and tears, and also it has UV protection, so it's not going to fade. The zippers are going to be corrosion-resistant and have openings on the ends where you can insert a padlock to help secure your gear while you travel as well. We did mention the flap earlier. That also helps protect the zipper and help keep things watertight.

Also, to keep the flap in place, we do have hook-and-loop straps to secure it.It's also easy to load and unload, as it opens 3/4 of the way all the way around and loads from the rear. Also, in this particular case, it's not going to make contact with the rear hatch. You have 18 cubic feet of space to work with to load up your gear, and this measures 48" long by 40" wide by 19" tall. As far as carrying capacity is concerned, that's dependent on the vehicle you have. Just go to your vehicle's manual and figure out its specifications. Now, there have been some customer comments on this product.

One issue that was brought up was that this actually came loose while they we're driving, and when they tried to re-attach it, the plastic pieces we're broken. So, with that, just make sure you're strapping everything down nice and tight before you leave, and also you trying to make sure the seal's in place to make sure no rain or anything like that gets in while you drive as well.Another customer issue was that some of the fabric was torn, and it came loose again, and they felt that it was because it was moving from side to side. So, again, always make sure everything is tightened down properly, but also having the mat underneath helps keep that bag staying in place while you travel. When comparing this with other products, one that comes up is going to be the Thule Interstate Rooftop Cargo Bag, part number TH869. The biggest difference between these two, besides the general shape of the bags, is going to be how much space they have on the inside, with the Thule having 16 cubic feet and the Sport 3 having 18 cubic feet. The biggest advantage the Rightline Gear has is that it attaches to vehicles with or without roof rack systems, while the Thule Interstate requires a roof rack system. Now that we've gone over some of the features of the Rightline Sport 3, let's go ahead and show you how it installs.

We'll first take it out of its convenient carrying tote. We'll starting by folding it out. It looks like this is going to be the top side. You can tell, because the buckles are going to be on the top. Now, before we place it onto the roof of our vehicle, it is recommended that you just quickly wash it off with a little bit of soap and water so it's nice and clean, and you're not going to be dragging dirt back and forth across your roof. Before we actually install our bags, it's a good idea to use the Rightline Non-Skid Roof Protection Pad for the Rightline Rooftop Cargo Bags, part number RL100650.

This ensures that the bag won't move back and forth while you're driving. We'll take our non-skid pad, and we'll set it on the roof of our vehicle in the general spot where our bag's going to be. You want to make sure that the textured side is facing up. This here's the textured side, making sure it's facing up. This is the non-textured side. While this is not a necessity for the Rightline bags, it's definitely a help. Now, at this point, depending on the size of the bag that you're hauling, you can cut this pad to length to fit more properly around the bag itself. Before we set this onto our roof, we're going to unzip it completely all the way around. Now we can set our bag onto the roof. When you do this, you want to make sure the non-opening end goes towards the front, and open up the flag, and we can start loading our gear. Once we have everything installed, then we can start zipping it up on both sides, and they're going to meet up in the end here.As we zip these done, you want to make sure you connect, or at least reconnect, the hook and the fasteners all the way around to make sure that the flap stays in place. In this case, we're going to keep the zippers to the corner here so it's just a little easier to get to next time. At this point it's good if you have a padlock or something like that that can fit through the zipper holes, connect those two up, and secure them in place.Next we can install our straps. To do that, you want to make sure you use the proper buckle for each situation. If you we're to have a roof rack attached to your vehicle, you would use the front buckle. Since this one does not have a roof rack on it, we'll be using the side one here. We'll start by taking our strap and feeding it through the buckle, and then we'll go to the inside of the vehicle and install the hook. On the inside of the vehicle, we'll take our hook, and it goes on the inside panel like so. We'll do this on the other side as well. Then you can pull the strap tight, and then we simply just shut the door. Then we'll take any excess that we may have and just wrap it around just to make sure it's not flapping around while we drive, making an annoying sound and stuff like that. Just a simple knot will do. Now we have a place on our vehicle with factory raised side rails, where you don't need a hook to fasten it down. Instead, you would actually remove the hook and the strap completely. Then you have this loop on the end you'll wrap underneath, put our strap through, and then we'll strap it down that way. Get it nice and tight and then tie off the excess. When you're finished using the Rightline bag, it has this convenient tote that you can place in the rear of the vehicle so it's ready for next time. There you have it for the Rightline Gear Sport 3 Rooftop Cargo Bag, part number RL100S30.

This worked out great I put itvon top of my 94 honda civic. My order came 2 day delivery right before Christmas. My daughter and I had no trouble strapping it on roof and drove fr St. Charles Illinois all the way to Tacoma WA through rain, wind major snow storm. Nothing got wet inside and the bag didn't move at all. The straps that xame with the product were okay but I also used straps that had a come a long brackets to make it super tight. Best 80.00 I ever spent and love my rooftop luggage bag. 167159

The Rightline Sport Jr. Rooftop Cargo Bag was a lifesaver for our vacation trip. There's no way we could have fit gear into a Nissan Juke for a week at the beach for two adults, one mother-in-law, one large dog and one medium dog without it. Plus, it was the perfect size for our Nissan Juke -- it snugged to the roof perfectly and was secure for the whole 6 hour trip there and the 6 hour trip back. The cable lock (RL100640) and non-skid pad (RL100650) we bought added an extra level of security. We also got an extra set of clips (RL100600) just for peace of mind in case we managed to break or lose any (we didn't!). 246067

The stitching holding a rear D ring started ripping when we first tried attaching the straps to the bag and car. I was not able to ever use this item though thankful it started ripping before the car was traveling on a turnpike! 139626

I selected this bag because of the reviews, the price, the fact that it is actually waterproof (not water resistant like so many other products out there) and the fact that the dimensions of the 9cu ft said it should fit within my Rhino Rack RMCB01 roof basket(the 12cu ft model should fit on the roof alone without the basket but that isn't the route I went) As a side note I wanted a roof box but this combo cost me about 1/2 the cost of a good box. I also didn't want to place bag this directly on my roof (which the product is designed to do). I have a cargo net and some straps that will secure it and keep an under-packed bag from flapping around at highway speeds. With a baby on the way, I didn't want to rely on my wife's SUV only, if we have to travel in inclement weather. After it arrived I filled it with our normal suitcase, dog kennel (for small breed) and a couple of bookbags full of clothes with some room to spare. This leaves the hatch space open for the behemoth of a stroller my wife got (and at least another bag or so with the wheels off). We don't have one yet, but I believe with re-arranging of the bookbags I could fit a travel pack n play. For reference the car is a 2010 mazda 3 hatchback. I have not had a chance to test this out on the open road yet or in a rainstorm for that matter so I cannot attest to the actual waterproofing aspect. I also have zero experience with waterproof material but initial inspection the design seems sturdy and maybe its just me but every time i pull the zipper i feel I am going to rip it out(could just be the amount of resistance I'm feeling, as you have to basically bend the "corners" of the bag just right so that the zipper track moves) and I worry about snagging the bag getting mounted even though the material seems tough enough. I am the overcautious type and I may be more delicate with it than I need to be so it'll probably be fine. I may update review after I actually get to use it but from the aspect of why I bought it, what it can store and the price point it fulfills all of that thus far. Size wise I thought it was going to be too small when I ordered but it fits my needs perfectly fine. I was very pleased with etrailer, I checked a few websites that I've ordered from before and this time i paid attention to the other reviewers. Delivery was fast and etrailer even emailed to confirm I had received the product. Lastly, my only complaint was that the factory box the bag came in looked like it had escaped a prison camp then thrown off a cliff. I took photos just in case but the contents were fine so no biggie. 476329

works well, zipper is rugged and covered, so it takes some effort to use but that is part of being weatherproof. I used it on a horizontal tire rack mounted at my trailer hitch. I needed a non specific mounting system for that. Functioned perfectly and is reasonably priced 301763

We used this roof bag to travel from Northeast Ohio to the Rocky Mountains in Colorado, in a small 4 door Ford Focus. We drove through torrential rain, tornado like winds and clear skies. Our belongings stayed attached, dry and uneffected by outside elements. There was a slight learning curve with attaching it via the wearherstripping hooks. And the only reason this product gets 4 stars is that water leaked into our car where the hooks came in, in spite of readjustment. After much use on that trip, it is still in excellent condition. 605212

I drove many high speed miles with this product on the top of my small car which does not have a rack on it. It did not budge. It is much sturdier than I expected it to be and definitely holds more than I anticipated. I would recommend this to everyone. 461588

I just received it so I cannot evaluate it for performance. I am going to change out the plastic strap holders with small stainless steel buckles and use a racket tie down. I will use it for jeep trips and test it to see if it is truly waterproof. 331626

This product is exactly what I've been looking for. Not only is it cost effective, but it also fits everything I needed it for. I plan to use this in my cross country move and It has allowed for us to have a bit more space in the car so that we can have a little extra breathing room. It's an excellent product. 277109

Do you have a question about this Roof Bag?

  • Recommended Rooftop Cargo Bag for 2007 Ford Focus 2 Door
  • For a smaller compact vehicle like your 2007 2 door Ford Focus, I do recommend going with the smaller 9 cubic feet Rightline Sport Jr. Rooftop Cargo Bag # RL100S50. This bag will still offer a good amount of storage space and can be mounted to the roof without a roof rack. The bag will use sturdy straps that grab the door ledges or rain gutters on your vehicle to secure it to the roof. The bag is 36 inches long x 30 inches wide x 16 inches tall. A larger bag may potentially interfere with...

The Class I hitch above has a 200-lb tongue weight rating, tongue weight being downward force on the hitch. So in actual pounds, this means that once you deduct the carrier's own 30-lb weight from that hitch capacity you still end up with a 170-pound maximum cargo weight. This is far more than your...

You could use car clips, # RL100600, to attach it to the vehicle roof rather than trying to make it work with the crossbars. I also recommend protective pad # RL100650 to not only protect the roof...

  • Roof Mounted Cargo Bag and Accessories for a 2010 Toyota Camry with a Sun Roof
  • For a cargo bag for your 2010 Toyota Camry you will want to place it so that no part of the bag is resting on the sun roof. Measure how much space there is from the rear edge of the sun roof to the back of the vehicle roof (or nearest obstruction such as an antenna). If you have 48 inches or more then Rightline bag # RL100S30 is a great option. But if you require a shorter bag then # RL100S50 is the shortest option at 36 inches long. For either bag I do recommend the clips, # RL100600....

  • Will Rightline Jr. Cargo Bag # RL100S50 Dent a 2012 Honda Civic With a Naked Roof
  • The Rightline Sport Jr Rooftop Cargo Bag # RL100S50 does not have a rigid bottom and should not dent the roof of your 2012 Honda Civic providing the following precautions are followed - check your owners manual for the amount of weight your vehicles roof can hold and do not load your cargo bag heavier than your owners manual recommends. Rightline does offer a Non-Skid Roof Protection Pad # RL100650 that can be cut to fit either the roof of your vehicle or the diameter of the cargo bag...

  • Roof Rack and Cargo Bag Recommendation for a 1996 Honda Civic Sedan
  • The Rightline Sport 3 XL Rooftop Cargo Bag # RL100S30 is a pretty big cargo bag with it's dimensions being 48" x 40" x 19". It is designed to attach to roof racks like the Sportrack # SR1010 but you might want to measure the dimensions of your roof to see if this bag would fit it ideally since this bag is typically used on larger vehicles. The part # RL100S50 might be a better fit as it's dimensions are 36" x 30" x 16". I also recommend a protective pad, # RL100650, to protect the...

  • What Roof Top Cargo Bag Will Fit a 2005 Honda Accord Coupe
  • I have two solutions for carrying a roof cargo bag on your 2005 Honda Accord Coupe. If you are making a trip of any distance I recommend installing an economical roof rack system such as the SportRack Semi-Custom # SR1002 with the Short-Roof Adapters # SR1116, which enables you to carry a cargo bag without issue. Due to the size of your roof and only having 2 doors, this kit comes with a short roof adapter that enables you to carry cargo securely. By using crossbars, you achieve a more...

  • Is Placing A Cargo Carrier Allowed on the 2010 Mini Cooper R57 Convertible
  • I looked up a Mini Cooper owner's manual and it advises against placing any objects on the convertible top, as they would otherwise fall off while the convertible top is being operated and result in damage or personal injury. Please confirm this information with your owners manual. If your owners manual allows the Rightline Gear Sport Jr. Rooftop Cargo Bag # RL100S50 on your roof, ensure that your roof measures 36" long x 30" wide to ensure proper fitting. If your owners manual does...

  • Recommended Rooftop Cargo Carrier for 2006 Scion TC
  • The choice between a cargo box or basket will depend in part on what items you are transporting. A roof mounted cargo box will keep your items out of the elements, whereas a basket would need an additional cargo bag to keep your items safe and dry. For odd shaped items, a basket is better because it does not have the dimension restrictions of a box. A basket is easier to store should you decide to remove it from the roof. Most people just leave the basket on the roof. A cargo box...

  • Scion tc Cargo Basket and Cargo Bag Recommendation for Yakima Roof Rack
  • The crossbar spread of the Yakima roof rack you have on your 2006 Scioin tC should be 21 inches that consists of part numbers # Y00408, # Y00699, # Y00683, and # Y00124. If you wanted to use the cargo bag part # RL100S50 that you referenced you would first need a cargo basket. For one confirmed to fit your crossbar spread you would want the Curt Cargo Basket part # C18115. Check out the review video I attached for more info.

  • The Rightline Sport Jr. Rooftop Cargo Bag # RL100S50 can be mounted to a vehicle with a naked roof (no roof rack) like your 2009 Toyota Venza. The straps will run through the interior of the vehicle. I also recommend using protective pad # RL100650. It makes loading and unloading cargo from the roof and installation of...

  • Will the Rightline Gear Cargo Bag # RL100S50 Work on a 2013 Honda CR-V EX
  • The Rightline Sport Jr. Cargo Bag, # RL100S50, was designed to work with vehicles that do not have roof rails or crossbars installed and should work well with your 2013 Honda CR-V EX. When mounting a cargo bag on a vehicle with a moon roof or sun roof, you will want to mount it as far behind the moon roof as possible. If part of the bag must sit on the moon roof, I do not recommend placing any heavy items on or near the glass of the moon roof. I also recommend checking your owners manual...
