This water-resistant cargo bag is perfect for carrying extra gear on the road. Rightline Gear's Ace 1 car top carrier holds your cargo securely on the roof of your vehicle.

PVC-Lined Water-Resistant Fabric

Closeup of Ace 1 cargo bag material and inner PVC layer

The roof-mounted cargo bag is made of Hydrotuff material - 600-denier, woven polyester backed with a PVC inner layer that keeps out moisture. The semi-coated mesh material blocks 98 percent of UV rays to help prevent fading.

Welded seams help keep water out so your gear stays dry.

Under-the-Flap Zipper Placement

Urethane-coated zipper on Ace 1 cargo bag

This bag's zipper is protected under a flap, so it is sheltered from the rain.

The zipper also runs three-quarters of the way around the roof bag, so you can easily load up the bag or access your gear.

Roof Rack or Bare Roof Mount

Rightline Gear Bag on Side Rails

The Ace 1 cargo bag can be used with either a roof rack or cargo basket or on a bare roof. Just attach the bag to your side rails, crossbars or cargo basket using the four included straps. The attachment straps thread through D-rings on the bag for added security.

Rightline Gear Bag on Naked Roof

Or if you have a bare roof, you can hook the included car clips to the door frame weather molding and thread the attachment straps through the D rings on the four corners of the bag. Your car doors will close easily over the straps.

This kit includes clips that attach to the bag straps and then hook over the ledges or rain gutters at the tops of your doors. A roof protection pad (RL100650 - sold separately) is available to keep the bag from sliding around and to protect the top of your vehicle from scratches.

To lock up the bag, run a Rightline Gear locking cable (RL100640 - sold separately) through the cutouts in the zipper pulls. Then, if you want to lock the carrier to your roof, run the cable around your roof-rack rails.

Video Transcript for Rightline Ace 1 Rooftop Cargo Bag Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Rightline Ace 1 Rooftop Cargo Bag, part RL100A10. The Rightline Cargo Bag is great for carrying a wide variety of accessories on your roof and keeping them nice and dry thanks to the weather resistant material. This is great for cars, crossovers, and wagons. The ways that this bag is weather resistant, we have a flap that actually has hook and loop straps on it to protect the zipper, that goes over like so. It also has welded seams to keep the moisture out. The material itself is a made from a 600-denier, woven polyester with PVC inner layer. It also resists UV rays to help prevent fading, and is rated at UPF 50. This can hold the 12 cubic feet of storage, comes with four straps to attach it to your vehicle, and it can attach it in several different ways, either on a naked roof as you see here.

It can also attach to a cargo basket or to a factory roof rack. The bag measures 38" long, by 34" wide, by 16" tall. When loading things into this bag just be sure you check your vehicle's manual as to how much weight you can put on your roof. Now that we've gone over some of the features of the cargo bag let's go ahead and show you how it installs. First off, we're going to open up our bag all the way, and then we'll set it onto our cargo basket. When installing this on our cargo basket you want to make sure that the open end is facing towards the rear with the name of the bag is facing towards the front.

Next we can load up our gear. Now that we have everything loaded up in our bag we're ready to actually tighten it down to our cargo basket, which means we'll have to use these straps with the hooks. Now since we have this in a cargo basket, we won't need the hooks for this application, so we'll simply remove those. So we'll wrap our first strap around our bar like so, loop it through, and pull it tight. Then we'll go up to the top of the bag. You need to decide at this point which set of buckles you'll use.

We'll use the ones off to the side, and we'll thread our strap through that, and then cinch it down. We'll repeat this for our three other attachment points. Our second way to mount this is if you have either factory raised side rails, or a factory roof rack. We're going to repeat the same process we did when we had the bag on the roof basket, except this time we'll wrap it around our factory raised side rails like so, and pull it through the loop that way. Put it through, and tighten it up, and take care of the excess. Now our third and final way to put this onto your roof, we're going to use the naked roof here of a vehicle.

We're going to have to clean off the top of it before we set it on the roof. Unlike the previous ways of attaching this to your vehicle, instead of starting with our loops, we're actually going to start up at the top. However, before we do that, we're going to reattach our hooks that we took off earlier. Again, using our side buckle here, put it through like so, then we'll open up our car door and attach our hook to the weather seal inside. Close our door, tie off our excess, then we'll repeat this process for our three other straps. There you have it for the Rightline Ace 1 Rooftop Cargo Bag, part number RL100A10.

This bag worked perfectly for our 2500 mile drive to and from Florida. Very easy to use and the service at Etrailer is amazing! I called several times for help and each person I spoke to was very helpful and knowledgeable. I highly recommend this roof carrier and Etrailer! 616202

Review from a similar Rightline Gear Ace in Roof Bag

Very Pleased with the performance. Drove from Pennsylvania to Arkansas 900+ miles through winter storm Helena. I used it with the Non-Skid Pad on a 2016 Honda Civic, bare roof. Everything stayed dry, no water leakage anywhere. It was roomier than I had expected, I managed to get a twin size futon, memory foam mattress topper, quilts, blankets & afghan, a husband pillow and a couple throw pillows in it, granted everything was compressed and tied tight, but it fit easily. My only ONLY negative is with the straps, I was not able to get them tight enough to suit so I added 2 additional (the blue ones) straps with ratcheting closure. All straps went through the car with no problem and the carrier did not budge! I did duck tape the front edge of the non-skid mat to keep it from flapping in the wind and making noise. 332905

Review from a similar Rightline Gear Ace in Roof Bag

I absolutely do NOT recommend this bag. Details below. Worst bag. Ever. The bag had a lot of promise for $53! The bag seemed to be high quality with a thick outside, nice sturdy zippers, and a few great reviews, however, I must have received a dud or I was punked. I used this bag for a two day trip from Baltimore to New Orleans with mild scattered thunderstorms. As you can see in the photos, the interior liner of the bag, that makes it waterproof, completely deteriorated which allowed copious amounts of water into my belongings. In addition to the liner deteriorating, holes were formed in the bag...holes that I could fit my fists through. Thanks to this bag I had wet clothes, ruined books, and a few damaged electronics. I thought spending $53 on a bag would get me a quality bag. I guess I was wrong. I love etrailer and will continue supporting them, but etrailer you need to consider taking this product out of your inventory. Seriously. etrailer, please let me know if/how I can return this bag for a refund or exchange for a better quality bag. Side Note: Anyone who has this bag, be sure to bind the zip pulls together by intertwining the pulls -- this will ensure the bag will not open because of the wind causing the bag to flap and slowly pry open the bag. 220069

Review from a similar Rightline Gear Ace in Roof Bag

It's not as great as a pod. And don't recommend using in the rain. It did leak a lot when we used it returning from Christmas from my paren'ts. So got home with a roofbag full of wet clothes. Had no issues with it in dry weather. I usually just put soft gear in it like clothes, sleeping bags/pads. 655595

Review from a similar Rightline Gear Ace in Roof Bag

Very durable and well made product that has held up well over long distance trips in summer rain and winter snow (about 7000 miles in total). It has developed some small holes where it was chafing with the rack basket hardware due to my own fault, but I would definitely buy another one. It fits a ton and is great for extra vehicle storage when needed and folds up small when not being used. 459854

Bag worked well thru heavy rain and all stayed dry inside. Straps and buckles were not that good and did not hold. I ended up using my own ratchet straps instead. 265726

I bought this roof top carrier to take my son to Oregon. When we stopped for our 3rd night I noticed one of the straps was ripped off. Luckily I had eXtra tie downs. When we emptied the bag I noticed the inside of the bag was disintegrating. By the time we got to Eugene the bag was worthless and we threw it out. The hitch I bought worked well. We had a bike rack on with 2 bikes and that's pretty much all its used for. 261324

Arrived in good time. Easy to pack and attach to the car (using enclosed directions) even though I don't have a roof rack. Didn't encounter any rain, but it looks sturdy enough and well-made to withstand some serious downpours. 99405

We used this the weekend after it arrived for a 600+ mile road trip. The mounting instructions help to clarify the strap configuration, and the bag itself is quite roomy. We did not encounter precipitation so I cannot attest to its water-tight attributes, but it did the job well and we are happy with the purchase. 73960

  • Can I Install the Rhino-Rack Rooftop Cargo Bag on Roof Racks?
  • For these items, the intent is for them to buckle inside a cargo basket. A roof basket like the Rola Mounted Basket, part # 59504 would let you use it. The Rhino Rack Rooftop Carrier Bag, part # RRLB350, only has straps long enough to connect to a roof basket, not all the way around and through the inside of the vehicle or even around just the factory roof rails. A better solution for you would be a bag that outright mounts to your existing roof rack, such as the Rightline Gear Ace...
