  • Maximum load (break strength): 10,000 lbs
  • Minimum usable length: 32"

Note: Tie-down straps must be chosen according to their safe working load limit (WLL). The weight of the secured cargo must not exceed the combined WLL of the straps being used. For example, if you are using straps with a WLL of 500 lbs each to tie down a load weighing 1,000 lbs, then you need at least 2 straps to safely secure that load. It is recommended that you always use straps in pairs.

ShockStrap Ratcheting Tie-Down

shockstrap flat hook strap with shock

Made in America to military-grade specifications, this one-of-a-kind ratchet strap from ShockStrap is great for nearly any application, from securing cargo on your vehicle for your next weekend getaway, to strapping down your favorite toys on your trailer. The 27' length of this strap is perfect for securing heavy loads to your trailer and tying down UTVs and utility tractors.

Unlike traditional straps, which don't stretch or contract, this tie-down is uniquely designed with built-in shock absorbers that allow the strap to maintain constant tension on your load as you travel. This is great for vehicles with suspension systems that can compress and rebound when you travel rough terrain.

Built-In Shocks

shockstrap rubber shock

The webbing of a standard strap can't stretch or contract to absorb impacts. As a result, standard tie-downs might become detached from their anchor points, or they may become slack around your gear as the load shifts. But this ratchet strap features 2 built-in urethane shocks that are designed to absorb impact and to allow give. This ensures that the tie-down stays taut and won't loosen over time. The built-in shocks help to keep the tie-down from coming loose or failing, which could result in lost or damaged gear.

In addition, the shock ensures a longer life for the strap webbing. If you use this to tie down a UTV, for example, the constant compressing and rebounding of the UTV's suspension during travel can wreak havoc on ordinary straps. The webbing is likely to experience more wear and tear as it rubs along your gear. But the ShockStrap's shock absorbs these jolts so that the webbing of the tie-down stays put instead of wearing over the edges of your equipment.

Easy-to-Use Ratchet

shockstrap large handle ratchet

This tie-down features a commercial-grade, field-replaceable ratchet that is easy to use. To release the ratchet, grab the oversized handle and pull on the release lever. The release lever is positioned on the outside of the ratchet to ensure safe and easy operation, even if you're wearing gloves.

How to Use the ShockStrap Ratchet Strap

shockstrap flat hooks

To use the ShockStrap ratcheting tie-down strap, first attach one of the sturdy flat hooks to a desired anchor point. Then stretch the strap over your cargo and secure the other hook to a point on the opposite side of your truck or trailer. Each hook has a wide opening, making it hassle-free to maneuver and attach the hooks to your anchor points.

Soft loops, which are on both sides of the strap, can be used to tie down a piece of equipment that may otherwise be difficult to secure. So instead of using the hooks, which may scratch or scuff your toys and might be difficult to run through or around other cargo, you can easily cinch the tie-down around your gear. Just wrap a soft tie around the axle of your UTV and then secure the tie-down to your anchor points as usual.

Once the hooks are in place, tighten the webbing around the cargo and activate the shocks. To tighten the strap, crank the ratchet mechanism until the webbing is taut around your load. Be sure not to overtighten the strap. If your hand cannot fit between the shock and the safety strap, the strap is too tight.

To activate the shocks, tighten the strap a bit more, stretching the shocks until light is visible through the bolt holes in each shock. In warm climates, the shocks can stretch up to 2", while in subzero climates you may only get about 1/2" of give.

Finally, after tightening the webbing and stretching the shocks, make sure your cargo is completely secure and then tie off any extra slack.

Additional ShockStrap accessories can be added to help with load securement. Use the ShockStrap strap latches (297-2STY - sold separately) to secure the hooks on this tie-down strap to anchor points, ensuring that the hooks won't pop off while you are securing your load or while you are traveling.

Strong, Durable Construction

The sturdy, UV-resistant polyester webbing of this tie-down strap has a high tolerance for abrasion and water absorption.

The shocks are made of urethane, which can withstand elements such as sunlight, saltwater, moisture, oil, fungi, and most chemicals. These shocks can function in nearly any temperature, holding up to hot and cold weather conditions without losing elasticity or becoming unyielding or brittle over time.

The rust-resistant, yellow zinc chromate coating on the ratchet and hardware holds up to the varying weather conditions.

A safety strap is also built into this tie-down to provide peace of mind should something happen to the shocks. This safety strap ensures that if the tie-down is used improperly, overloaded, or unduly stretched, your cargo will remain secured.

Video Transcript for Review of ShockStrap Ratchet Straps - Trailer - Truck Bed - SS53MV

Hello everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today, we're taking a look at the ShockStrap 27-foot-long ratchet tie-down straps with the shock absorbers. It's for a quantity of one strap. Now, this shock absorbing, ratcheting, tie-down strap will let you secure the cargo in your truck bed or your trailer. And I want to zoom in and show you the unique feature on these straps, which is this built-in urethane shock absorbers they have. These are designed to help absorb any impact to ensure constant tension of the strap, even as your load shifts.

These shock absorbers are made of a urethane-based material, which'll stand up to extreme temperatures, to saltwater, moisture, oil and most chemicals. You can see how they attach them to the straps, they use these sturdy, grade-A bolts with the Nyloc nuts, to hold them in place. And if you notice on the bottom here, it has this extra strap, this is a safety strap, and that'll perform two purposes. First, it's gonna give you an extra strap, if for some reason these shock absorbers would break, so you still have a full strap there. So it's a safety feature.

Now, you don't have to worry about these breaking, because the manufacturer says for these shock absorbers to break, they would have to stretch 18 to 20 inches before they even have a chance of breaking. And there's no way you're gonna be able to tighten these enough to stretch it that far, you'll only be able to move them a little bit. So, they do use that as a safety feature. But the other main reason they use this for is the safety strap connect pocket tension limiter, so you don't over-ratchet the strap. So, basically, what they tell you to do is, when you hook these straps up, you hook them up, tighten it down, and as you're ratcheting it down to tighten it up, they say if you use your hand and just slide your hand or fingers between the shock absorbers and that safety strap when you're tightening it up, when it gets tight enough that you can still slide your hand and fingers between there, then that means you have the correct tension on the strap.

Now, this strap is made in the USA to military grade specifications, and it is DOT approved, which is Department of Transportation. Now, because of this unique shock absorber feature right here, these straps are great for securing your cargo that'll have a suspension system that could compress and rebound when you travel rough terrain. So, this strap is great for tying down snowmobiles, motorcycles, utility tractors, ATVs, and UTVs, because they will have movement with their suspension systems. So, basically, when you tighten those vehicles down and you get them real tight, as soon as you hit a bump, sometimes, cause that suspension to move and it could let the strap get loose, possibly even unhook, which is pretty dangerous. So, with the shock absorbers in here, this'll keep a constant tension on there, even if those vehicles go up and down, it still keeps good tension.

Also, if you notice the ratchet mechanism right here, makes it easy to tighten down each strap, maintains tension on the strap. You can see just by raising it up, cranking it down, that'll crank your strap in. And you can see it is a very large handle, has the release lever right here in the middle, ensures a nice, simple, safe operation. Even if you're wearing thick gloves, you'd still be able to operate the handle. And the minimum usable length, in other words, the shortest the strap will get, is 32 inches. I want to zoom back out and just show you what we're talking about here. So, to ratchet it, you can see, just like that, as you press it, it's going in the strap. And then another nice feature is, if you're going to hook up and you need to pull some extra strap out, all you have to do is pull on this release lever here, take the handle, put it all the way to the other side, lock it into place, and then it's out of the ratchet. And then all you have to do is just pull, like that, and you can pull out as much strap as you need, hook it up, once you're hooked up and you're ready to ratchet, pull up on that lever, put it back into the ratchet position, and just like that, you can ratchet your straps. It's very easy to operate, very easy to hook up. Now, on the ends here, zoom back in and we'll show you, they use these nice, extra-wide, flat hooks, very heavy-duty metal. They allow hassle-free connection to your anchor points on both ends. And the hooks themselves are spot welded to the strap to prevent separation. Now, all the parts on here, the steel parts, are corrosion resistant, yellow zinc coating on all the steel hardware. The strap itself is a durable, two-inch wide, polyester webbing, which is UV resistant, withstands abrasions, and water absorption. Now, the dimensions on this, we mentioned it's two inches wide, total length you can get on the strap is 27 feet, and the maximum load, or break strength, and that'll be listed right here, there's a extra strap they put on there, which will give you the specs, and it's telling you the maximum load or break strength is 10,000 pounds. And then the critical one is the safe working load limit, which is always a third of the break strength, and on this one will be 3,333 pounds. So, one note I do want to mention is, tie-down straps must be chosen according to their safe working load limit. So, the weight of the secured cargo must not exceed the combined working load limit of the straps that are being used. So, to give you an example, if you're using straps that'll have a 500-pound working load limit, and on each strap, and you're gonna tie down a load that weighs a thousand pounds, then you're gonna need at least two of those straps to safely secure that load. And it is recommended that you always use straps in pairs. But that should do it for the review on the ShockStrap 27-foot-long ratchet tie-down strap with the shock absorbers for a quantity of one..

Review from a similar Shock-Absorbing Ratchet in Ratchet Straps

I was looking for tie down straps to haul my ATV as well as my garden tractor. The standard straps were okay but did seem to loosen up after traveling for awhile. So I took a chance on these ones based on the details one etrailer as well as reviews. I have not been disappointed. They worked as described and do not loosen in transit. I would definitely purchase again.

Still working very well and not showing any signs of wear. Sure is nice to have straps that do not loosen in travel.

Geesh these are really large! Bought these over the 1.5" as it was almost the same price. But now getting them, I almost wish I got the small version for our Dirt Bikes. But these will for sure more then do! Heck.. I could even use them to pull a car out of a mud pit with these 2"ers. I'll keep them vs swapping for the smaller..

Review from a similar Shock-Absorbing Ratchet in Ratchet Straps

Well after one year I give it a 4 star plus rating. I haul a $1,500 snow thrower and I do not want it sliding around or coming loose. This product claimed it will hold...and it did...I tried good looking store bought straps and sometimes I would not even drive a mile and they were loose. I cannot afford that! BUT for as much as I am in and out with my work I wish they were a little quicker for me to secure. It is not that difficult once you get the hang of it, but I do it 15 times per snow fall and I would dream of straps secure and very fast to secure. Maybe secure hooks on each connection and no sifting strap thru each time. OVERALL if you want your cargo not to shift or come loose BUY THESE.

I use these to tie down Honda Rancher ATVs, I took out the rubber shock as it's useless(too stiff) for the weight of the ATV and provides no shock motion. The strap itself is unbeatable. Heavy duty, with the loop and latching hook that make this strap a super safe option. The strap and hook WILL NOT come off going down a rough road, due to the safety mechanisms. Well worth the price if you want long lasting AND safety as peace of mind.

Great product when they work as designed. Unfortunately one of the ratchet handle assembly units would not operate properly. I was lucky to have one the right size that I could adapt to fit the strap, now it works perfectly. With a higher quality ratchet these straps are awesome

Best tie downs made , good price for what you get . I carry a 13 ft boat in my toy box . It use to end up against the wall or ice maker . With many trips now that boat has never moved 1/4 of an inch . The safety clip on each end really works too . I love em , will never buy anything different .

I love these straps! They don't come loose and hold the SXS really well. Much better than standard straps! Standard straps would come loose on my SXS, these do not. I like the length, so I'm not tying off long ends. The loops give great flexibility too. Great straps, highly recommended and would buy again. My only question/concern is how long the "rubber" shock part will last. Don't know if over time it will crack or sun will harm, etc. But other than that they are great.

I brought this product as my 29' boat needed very strong bow straps to address movement while trailering. Just completed a 3,000 mile tow and the difference was amazing!! No jerking motion and the shock absorbers did their job on I95 bumps.

I highly recommend this product.

Review from a similar Shock-Absorbing Ratchet in Ratchet Straps

The product performed as it was advertised. The straps were well constructed and it was obvious a great deal of thought went into the design. I shoot sporting clay targets and haul a John Deere Gator 825 XUV to events, as a means of transportation around the course. Roads traveling to and from events, often, are gravel or dirt. This can and does create rough road surfaces to pull trailers and XUVs on. I used the Shock Straps this past week and watched to Gator as I drove on some rough terrain. The Gator did not move or sway during the trip. When I got to my destination, the straps were as tight as when I left for the trip. There was absolutely no play in the straps. Previously, I was always adjusting the straps and the XUV would rock and bounce on rough terrain. No any more.

Like everyone else I would go through the efforts of strapping down a utv only to see my ratchet straps hanging off the trailer as I look at my review mirror 10 minutes into my trip. Never again! Used these on a 200 mile round trip down all kinds of roads (freeway, country roads, dirt roads, etc) and never had to adjust or tighten them. A must have.

I trailer my golding trike from MN to AZ or TX every winter.
Other tie downs tended to loosen up during the trip allowing my bike to move around.
These shock straps ABSOLUTELY stay tight and hold during the 1200 or 1500 mile trips!
TOTALLY recommend to all!!
