Video Transcript for ProGrip Ratchet Tie-Down Strap Review

Randy: Hey guys, Randy here at etrailer.com. Today, we're taking a look at a heavy duty ratchet strap from Pro Grip. Now this strap has a very unique connection point. As you can see, they've taken a heavy duty strap, and then connected it to a grade 70 half inch chain. This is going to be very, very handy in situations like this, or many other situations where we're bringing our strap up around the trailer, and it's setting on these more blunt edges. As they go down the road, they tend to wear. You might get a little bit of fraying, that can kind of reduce the strength of your strap.

Having the chain here, we can ramp this around any surface, and we can know without question we're not gonna have any issues with any kind of fraying or accidental disconnections. Another thing I like about this strap is the handle design. It's a nice rubberized handle, whether you've got gloves or just a bare hand, there's going to be plenty of grip there for you to get plenty of torque on it, to get your items torqued down properly. It seems like it's just a little bit wider than what we see out of some of the other ones. So all in all, I really like the way that works. Our release handle here, is also going to be rubber coated just to help us get those things unattached.

Now in the fully closed position like you see it here, that locks our handle into place. The middle position, that's where we can ratchet it, and then if we pull that handle and move it to the all the way open position, that releases that pressure for us so then we can disconnect our strap. Now to operate it, we just want to pull that slack out, bring our handle to the ratchet position, and torque it down. Fully closed at that point, our ratchet is fully engaged. Now the ratchet itself is going to be reasonably heavy duty. And for this kind of weight rating, that's what we're looking for.

There is no real flex, or give in it like we see with some of the medium or light duties. And you can see, all of the steel completely coated with that yellow zinc, so rust and corrosion really shouldn't be something we have to worry about for a very long time. Now the strap itself is going to be really nice. I like the thickness of it, it feels as good as any other 3,300 pound working load limit strap I've felt. I like that it's printed on one side, and not on the other. It's always good to get these straps in the ratchet nice and flat, so as we're ratcheting them down, they don't bunch up.

That really helps us to identify which side should go up and which shines should go down. Now the strap itself is going to be 27 foot long, so regardless of the size load you intend to haul, these should work out really well and help you get all of that contained, and strapped down safely. It's also going to have a 3,333 pounds safe working load limit. That's a load you don't want to exceed. We don't want to go over that to keep everything safe, and know that we're going to get everything there and it's still going to be strapped down when we do. Another thing with that is that we always recommend using straps in pairs. That way of one happens to fail, we've got a little backup with the other. Now to get your strap installed, we'll first need to get the strap through the center of our ratchet. To do that, we'll want it to be open. And you can see the barrel inside there. There's a little slip that runs through that. What we want to do is bring our strap in through that slit coming from the backside. We're going to loop it around, and we're going to pass it back out of the top. You see that's up on our handle side there. Now by pulling on that tag end, and that's how we're going to get the appropriate length that we want for our strap. Now we can take our chain end down here and make our connection where we want it.Pull out any more slack we might have. And at that point, just ratchet it, get the torque on it that we want, lock it down and secure off our excess. Once we have that done, we got everything properly torqued down, we're going to be ready to hit the road.
