Video Transcript for WeatherTech Side Window Air Deflectors Review
Today we're going to be taking a look at the WeatherTech Side Window Air Deflectors. These are going to be for the front and rear, passenger and driver side, and they come in two colors. The first is going to be the dark tint. The second one you see here is the light tint. It's nice that you've got options to most closely match your vehicle. These are designed to reduce wind noise and allow interior heat to escape your vehicle even when it's raining.
They're very quick and easy to install. There's no tools needed and anywhere that you will have tape, since these are designed to fit inside of your window channel, you'll never be putting that tape on the exterior of your vehicle. They have a very low profile design, gives it an OE or a factory look. They offer great durability with the 3-mm thick acrylic construction. As I said before, we're going to have four pieces included in each kit made to fit the front and rear, both passenger and driver side. We already have our driver side installed and I just had this to show you what that lighter tint is going to look like.
Inside your package, you're going to have full instructions for it. There will be a second set of instructions if your vehicle requires the channel clips which we have here. If it does, you're going to have four of those designed for the rear window and your weather stripping tool. We already have the driver side installed on this one. I believe I've already told you that. Let's get started getting these put on the vehicle.
We're looking here at our front first. As you can see, there's a little stuffed in area here, this area. That visor should be resting directly on top of our window channel. You can see that there. It comes out and it rest right on top of the chrome and rubber stripping.
That's then going to tuck up into the front corner there, we'll come to the rear, we'll flex this out, and we're going to position that into the channel as well. Now it's time to start working our channel up into place, we can do it from the front side and work that to the back. Now you pull it down and you allow it to go up and under that stripping there. Do it just a little bit at a time. You don't want to flex it out too much. It's nice and durable but certainly don't want to bend it in half. That's really all there is to installing that front half. Per the instructions, we'll want to bring our window up. As it passes the connection point or where the corners are, we pull it enough to give that a nice, free pass there. Same thing here on the rear, we're going to lift up and out on it, and allow it to secure in there nicely. Now, as our Fusion is here today, it's equipped with the auto-down feature, that safety feature if something we're to get in the way. In this case, we're just going to leave our window up for 12 to 24 hours and let them seat in there really well. If you don't have that feature and you can fully roll your windows up and down, you want to do that very carefully, very slowly five times, and then let it rest in this upward position. At the rear, as we said, we do have the channel clips that are made to fit inside of our window channel, so let me grab those and grab our tool. These are going to be positioned, per our instructions, about 4 inches from the front of the windshield. We can use the weather stripping tool to hold down, place the top in and then just rotate that on up into position. The tool will actually come in handy when you're trying to help guide it up in and around there, so you can get it plenty high enough in there so it won't cause any interference. All right. When we get that one in place, just come here to the rear. Again, we do the 4 inches and then rotate them up in there. A good fit on that one. That one's not quite going in there far enough. There we go. Just want to be sure they clip in that channel really well for you. We'll now grab our rear visor. We want to start it in the channel down here a little bit lower. We'll start sliding it up. Once it gets to our clips, we want to use the visor to push down and in in our clips. That'll will allow us to slide it up and behind. Just like that. As you can see, they're in position there, nice and steady. Now, as we said, this one doesn't have the tape that's designed to fit into the channel like some of them will. Right before we slide it up and in, that's when you'll remove that tape for the other application. With our rear deflector in place, it's now time to bring our window up just like we did on the front. We do want to give it some space. We're going to lift out here as it comes by that corner and again, here on the rear corner. Just lift that, give it some room to get up in there, just like the front. If you've got that auto-down safety feature, just leave them up 12 to 24 hours. If not, up and down five times. That's all there is to it. The installation video provided by eTrailer was a great help in supplementing the printed directions that come in the box. The first one is the trickiest, and does require a bit of care, but after that, the others are a cinch, and the whole installation only took about 10 minutes. I have window deflectors on all our cars, and now our daughter requested a set for her car. They allow me to park at work all day with windows cracked open for ventilation in baking sun, without concern that the weather may turn to rain. The deflectors also allow me to cruise with ventilation, even in rain. These have three benefits and one bonus: 1) The WeatherTech window deflectors are the in-channel style, so external tape is not used in installation. 2) WeatherTech is the only manufacturer I found that offers a 'lightly tinted' version. I prefer this because the deflectors contribute extra dimension to the blind spot of the front pillar. There is better visibility through these than the standard darker tint. 3) etrailer sells and delivers them below the item cost on the WeatherTech web site. 4) Etrailer contacted me after the order to alert me these were out of stock and on order from the factory. They expected receipt in 3 weeks, and promised delivery within 4 weeks. I was in no rush since it is winter and hard to install in brutal cold. Somehow, etrailer got them in and delivered them to me a full 2 weeks before their own estimate. Great product, and better service than I could expect. I cannot ask for more. 111398

Installed the front Side Window Deflectors on the 2017 Subaru Outback, after watching the factory video and reading the included instructions. The overall installation was easy, however the location of the "weather strip clips" was not 100% clear. They were NOT shown in the factory video and could be placed in two different ways over the window gasket material........... over the window trim and outside the rubber window seal..... or over the window trim and inside the rubber window seal. Tried them both ways to find out which one was correct, which caused me to remove one of the deflectors after they were installed. Guessed that the clip should be outside the rubber window track????? Also noticed increased wind noise at highway speed with the deflectors installed. 417479

I purchased these for a new, 2018 Subaru Outback. The rear window deflectors fit perfectly and went on easily. The front window deflectors did not fit. When installed, the windows bound up on the front of the window and would not go up. I feel they are too long for the window. I tried to install in all different ways but to no avail - the window would not work. I previously installed on a new Ram truck and Ford F-150 without any issue. I contacted Weathertech but did not get any response. 638690

I have spoken with my contacts at WeatherTech and these deflectors have a small clip that needs to be installed in the front of the window sill. It gets taped to the outer gasket of the Outback and it sits very close to the rear view mirror. This clip helps to hold the deflector up and keep it tight within the window channel. I have included a link to an installation video, this clip is featured at about 2 minutes 45 seconds of the install video of this install for your reference as well as the installation instructions for your reference. If this clip is not installed it may sag and appear to be too loose of a fit and too long for the window.
