Whereas belt-driven fans use up power from the engine to turn, electric fans do not, thus removing any unnecessary load and increasing both fuel economy and horsepower. In addition, you do not have to worry about an electric fan's slowing down at low RPM, as many belt-driven fans do, so you are guaranteed sufficient airflow regardless of the vehicle speed.

The thermostatic control sends a signal to the fan, directing it to shut off when fluid temperatures reach an appropriate level, thus saving power. Once the temperature climbs again and additional cooling is needed, the fan is automatically turned back on.

Before purchasing an electric fan, be sure to determine the CFM (cubic feet per minute) requirements for your engine. And remember, engines that have been modified or vehicles often used for towing may require additional CFM. There is no limit to the number of fans you can install, as long they all fit appropriately and are mounted on the same side of your radiator so that they do not cancel each other out.

Video Transcript for Derale Radiator Fans - Electric Fans - D16308 Review

Today we're going to take a look at the Derale 8 Inch Dyno Cool Straight Blade Electric Fan with the thermostat control. This fan will help increase fuel economy, horsepower and torque, improves your overall performance. It will conserve power by turning on at a pre-set temperature instead of running constantly. The thermostat right here, the temperature range is 32 degrees to 240 degrees. The fan can be mounted on either side of the radiator as either a push or a puller with no loss of airflow. If you hook it up as a puller application, you do want to connect these wires as stated on the label here, the positive lead or the power wire is the blue wire, the ground would be the black wire. If you do want to set this up as a pusher application, you do want to reverse those connections on the wires to change the airflow direction. If you notice on the fan, it has an ultra-low profile design for tight applications.

This part will include everything I laid out here on the table: the electric fan assembly itself, the fan mounting kit, the thermostat switch and the probe, as you can see that's connected to it with all the hardware for that, a 30-amp fuse holder and the hardware for that, and then a nice set of detailed instructions that describe how to install this on your vehicle. A few specs on this: the maximum cubic feet per minute the fan moves is 350. The power draw is 5.3 amps, and I do want to give you a few dimensions. The overall width or measure from here to here is going to be right at 7 7/8 inches. The height from the very bottom to the very top, 8 1/4 inches tall, and the depth from here to the very back is going to be right at 2 1/4" deep. The fan itself, the fan diameter is an 1/8-inch fan, and the depth of just the fan itself is 1 1/4 inches deep. That should do it for the review on the Derale 8 Inch Dyno Cool Straight Blade Electric Fan with the thermostat control..

I have always loved etrailer and their service. Once again order another of these coolers. Drop my temp from 240 to 170-190 also remember to order extra hose, the adapter if needed for your vehicle make, mount kits. Love it. Perfect this one is on a 07 GMC Yukon XL always add an extra cooler on your 1500 gmc or chevys they help out so much for them.

Great cooler upgrade for my 1997 GMC Yukon! Little delivery damage, but was so easy to bend those fins back to original shape so no worries!
Nice that you had proper dimension measurements online, so it was easy to figure out what kind I can fit in my truck. Complete kit had everything I needed to get it done!
Modified old cooler bracket little bit and that was it. Works great!

Not sure of the btu output of this but it worked perfectly fine in my jeep with the factory transmission. Upgraded to a built transmission and as it seems ill need a lot more cooling capacity. No rust or corrosion so far. The clamps it ships with are a gigantic transmission hazzard... had a clamp split right down the middle on me in my drive way thankfully. I would buy different clamps if you didn't want fluid puking out of a hose at 90+ psi and kill your trans.

I just installed this on my chevy avalanche.
Flipped
the bottom brace around in order to mount to.
The hardest part is getting the hoses on the cooler and over the return line.
I ended up getting a 90 deg quick connection coming from the radiator instead of using the one I got from etrailer. This keeps the hose from bending as much.
Also purchase the installation kit with a hose as you will need an extra hose.
After install I wish I would have went with the next bigger unit which is 10 high instead of 7 1/2 as I had plenty of room.

good product form a great company !
my
only complaint is this was listed as for my specific truck, but the "insta-dapt" supplied doesn't fit the Dodge truck of my year. even doing my research ahead of time, it seems to be hit or miss whether it would fit as some of them come with 5/16 fittings and some (like mine) come with 9/16 fittings. it doesnt matter the engine size, even other 3.7L dodge trucks of the same year have 5/16 fittings... I think Dodge made a change middle year, but never let the consumer know as mine is a late year '04.
no dig deal as I was able to assemble it anyways and got it up and running great and both the radiator and trans are running much cooler now !
I attached the D12902 to the bumper as you will see in attached images.
2 attached images are just before finishing, bumper hasnt been attached yet, one of them is after everything was complete.

Great product. Easy to install. Drove cross country and the transmission kept its cool. Even through the mountains in warm weather. No signs of leakage or corrosion after a year.

Review from a similar Dyno-Cool in Radiator Fans

Installed this in a 2017 Honda Ridgeline. Mounted it above the factory cooler that was already in the truck. (Flat fin side towards the a/c condenser). I used the insta-mount zip tie kit and also the flex metal mounts to anchor the cooler to the top of the factory cooler bracket as close to the a/c condenser as possible. The vertical bracket (part of the truck) that runs right down the middle of the a/c condenser has to be cut. All fairly minor fabrication. Hack saw and hand drill stuff. The fan has to be reversed to become a pusher. Followed the hood release cable from the interior to run 12 volts to power the fan on at ignition. Haven’t hooked the trailer up yet so I don’t know if this will resolve the hot tranny situation. ( I could smell the tranny getting hot before especially when we stopped at lights). Change your fluid too. etrailer delivered quickly and the cooler was well boxed and untouched.

Comments
We towed our travel trailer 7500 miles last fall almost coast to coast and back. The trailer weighs 4400 lbs loaded. The Ridgeline’s towing capacity is 5k lbs. I kept our speed at around 65 mph. The truck was capable even in mountain terrain. The transmission never overheated. I did change the fluid once during the trip and again when we got back. The cooler worked. Never once did I get that burning smell. I’m almost certain that the cooler saved us a huge overhaul repair. Thanks etrailer.

Works well. Just make sure it is matched to the load being towed.

Can't say anything bad about the unit. It was installed in a Jeep Grand Cherokee that I use to haul trailers occasionally that weigh up to 6000 lbs. So far, I've never overheated the transmission at all, which I attribute to the addition of this cooler. Once again, thanks for a great product.

I used this cooler on a 2004 Chevy Silverado. The accessories were not needed because I needed longer hoses and fabricated my own mounting. I think the hose clamps and the hoses could be better quality. The cooler does work very well.

Wanted to give my Honda better ability to handle a tow. this baby does the job. Transmission definitely cooler operation since the install. The install was simple and straight forward.

so far so great. Tho sometimes I have to remind the transmission service guys to add a bit more fluid then they are use to.

for my 06 colorado with the 2.8l i4. also used the derale trans oil thermostat to help with warmup of trans fluid in winter. trans never gets above 190F now and the engine will overheat (212F) before the trans does. perfect upgrade for a light duty truck/van/car to provide a little bit of cooling at a compact size. very satisfied with the product

Review from a similar Dyno-Cool in Radiator Fans

I purchased this for my C6 Corvette A6 transmission. I did, however, bypass the radiator and only use the transmission cooler for the C6. I purchased and used the Derale Radiator Adapter fitting 259-13035 for both the top and bottom and just capped them off to keep debris out of the reservoir. I also had to make some custom mounting brackets. This is an excellent product and it keeps the tranny in a great temperature range.

Review from a similar Dyno-Cool in Radiator Fans

I mounted this fan in the puller position on my auxiliary transmission cooler so that I can tow a 15ft travel trailer with my minivan. Installation was sweet. There was an instruction page in the box and enough parts for mounting. I was surprised at how much air this thing moves. I wouldn't call it noisy since the fan spins smoothly and quietly when I tested it out in the open, but when mounted in the congested grill area of my 2012 Dodge Grand Caravan I can definitely hear it hum more than the stock radiator fan. It pushes that much air. I would definitely recommend this product.

Dropped transmission temperature buy 25-30 degrees. I would recommend for anyone trying to help out their tranny.

i put this unit in my 2008 NIssan Titan pickup. we are going to take a 9000 mile trip this summer pulling a 27 ft HI Lo camper. The instructions were very generic. specific unit instructions would be very helpful. the grill was difficult to get out until i found a Youtube video for that. the hose provided was to short, so I made a run to the parts store. the unit appears to be well made.

Comments
we used the cooler in my 08 Titan. we pulled a 27 ft travel trailer thru 28 states and never had any issues

This fan is for a project that will not be completed until the middle of 2014 or later. I plan to use it to increase the air flow through the air conditioner condenser in my 1969 Corvair convertible. I will be ordering another fan since my design requires two fans for greatest efficiency and the flow rate for these fans is on the low side. The 500 cfm fans comes with too many items that are useless for my application thereby being too expensive.

Review from a similar Dyno-Cool in Radiator Fans

Ive got a 1999 4runner that had the unfortunate luck of having the integrated transmission cooler line rupture inside my radiator. needless to say, the transmission didnt agree very well with having engine coolant running through it and finally died out on me. I bought this transmission cooler to isolate the transmission and the engine cooling systems. The cooler arrived a day ahead of schedule, which is always a bonus. I didnt rate it at 5 stars because I havent had a chance to install it yet and see how it performs, but judging by the reviews that I have read so far, the customer service provided and the prompt delivery, I would say that this transmission cooler will keep my truck running for a good long while. Everything pictured arrived in the box and I have no doubt that it will perform as expected. I will definitely recommend this product and this company to my friends!

I bought this cooler for my 2007 Chevy avalanche LTZ 4X4 with 5.3 motor. I also bought the adapter the adapter D13035 for my truck as well. It was a quick and easy install. I just got it installed on 2/2/2018 and took the truck for a drive and it has dropped my transmission temp at least 40 degrees. It took me around 40 min to install. Very Happy with this new addition to my truck. FYI if you buy this unit to make it easier i would order an extra Line because the one line will be cutting close to reaching location.
