Will Torklift GlowStep Revolution Uprising Steps Work for You?

Fold-down steps are typically installed on travel trailers and some RVs. The fold-down steps from Torklift lift up to latch into your camper's doorway for storage. To ensure you choose the correct size for your application, there are a few measurements you will need to take.

Uprising

The Torklift revolution Uprising Steps install inside your camper's doorframe. Measuring for this may seem tricky, but once you know what to look for, figuring out the right fit for your RV doorway is easy.

First, you will need to measure the doorsill plate, both the height and the clearance between it and the bottom of the door. For the Revolution Uprising steps to fit, the doorsill height should be between 5/8" and 3/4", and the clearance should be at least 3/8".

Torklift

Next measure between the door frame flanges - the doorway width - to determine the step size that will fit into your camper's doorway. You will need a doorway that is at least 24" wide for these steps to work.

If it turns out you have a wider doorway, there are larger step assemblies available that fit 28" wide doorways. A full list of the available steps is below.

The doorway threshold will be used as the "mounting point" to determine how many steps you will need.

How Many Steps Do You Need?

Uprising

To decide on how many steps you'll need, measure from the mounting point to the ground. This is called the entry height. The entry height should roughly match the height of the steps when they're fully extended, and it will tell you how many steps you need.

The chart below displays entry height measurement ranges in the first column. If you determined you need a mounting bracket that fits a 24" doorway, the step part numbers with that width are in the second column. If you determined you need a bracket that fits a 28" doorway, the step part numbers with that width are in the third column. Choose the doorway width that is closest to your measurements without going over.

This page's step assembly is in bold text.

How Do You Install the Steps?

To install the steps:

  1. Make sure the camper is level on flat ground
  2. Place the mounting bracket into the camper doorway
  3. Extend until feet touch the ground
  4. Attach the door brackets to the main mounting bracket with the included hardware
  5. Center the steps in the doorframe
  6. Slide assembly forward until the two door brackets touch the inside of the doorframe

-Make sure the brackets are flush against the doorframe and the floor

  7. Drill holes through both sides of the doorframe
  8. Secure the door brackets to the doorframe and the floor with included hardware
  9. Push the main bracket forward until the vertical piece makes contact with the threshold

Video Transcript for TorkLift GlowStep Revolution Uprising Steps Review

Shane: Hey everyone, Shane here with etrailer.com. Today, we're going to take a look at the Torklift GlowStep Revolution Uprising. What would be the reason we'd want to add different steps to our camper Well, if we come down here and we take a look at the steps that normally come on your campers, steel construction and they tend to rush fairly quick so they become hard to put in and out. Plus they're floating steps, so there's nothing touching the ground. So when we walk on these, there's not a whole lot of stability there and you can see, they kind of move around. Plus if you're inside the camper sleeping and you come out at night or somebody's sleeping, you go to walk in, you're shaking the camper around. With the Torklift steps, you can see they're going to fold...

These are going to fold inside the door so once we leave, close our door, our steps stay inside, we don't have to worry about them staying outside in the weather. But they're easy to fold out, we simply fold them down. We'll grab this lower bar, I'm going to pull them out like this, we can adjust our feet and then we're ready to go. And you can see these are a lot more stable than our free-hanging steps. These are going to have a 325 pound weight capacity, they're going to be aluminum construction so we don't have to worry about the rust and corrosion.

All of our hinges, hardware, our hardware is going to be a stainless steel construction. Again, we don't have to worry about rust and corrosion or anything like that.I mentioned the GlowSteps, they're going to have a sticker that runs down each step down. Now, five minutes of direct light will give you 10 hours of glow. So you can see with all of our lights off, each one of our steps has a glow sticker on it that help when walking in at night. These are going to be a scissor style, so you'll notice we have three hinge points and what that allows us to do, is it allows us to fold up our steps into a nice compact space.

So it's not a whole lot of room that it would be taking up, it makes it easy to pull out and to push back in. Unlike some of the other steps where, on the factory steps that come out, once you get your second step in there it might be hard to lift up those two steps to slide them in place. Where with these being aluminum, they're nice and lightweight, we don't have to worry about all that extra weight.Let's say we parked somewhere and we have a little unlevel terrain. Each leg is going to have 12 holes that allows us to adjust this leg in one inch increments. The footpad on the bottom, now you can see a nice wide base so it gives us plenty of stability once they're on the ground.

But it has four rubber pads, so it gives us a nice grip when it's down. And this is actually the four step design. So you're probably asking yourself, "Well, if it's a four step design, what's the extra step" They actually call this a booster step. So what you would do is there's a lever down here that locks it and you slide it over. And this allows you to extend the steps out farther, or even to give you a little bit more height for ground that may be a little bit lower, different terrain levels. And this bottom step is a little bit closer to the ground for somebody that may have a problem actually stepping up higher. Now, if I didn't mentioned this before, these steps, these are the 28 inch wide ones and that's this inside bracket. Our step is actually going to be eight inches by 22 and a half inches, each one is going to have raised corrugation almost on it, to provide tread if your steps are wet. We'll come up here to this bracket and you'll notice it wraps all the way down, this is to provide support. So if you're walking up here and you happen to maybe step a little bit forward, you don't have to worry about your foot sliding in there. So it gives you plenty of protection there. We're going to have a nice grip here so when we're stepping up here with this being a metal surface, if it gets wet, obviously it's going to be slick. So having the grip tape there, we can step on it and we're not going to have to worry about sliding. Now being 28 inches, that's this bracket right here, inside edge to inside edge of this bracket is going to be 28 inches. And how you measure that is this flange on your doorframe, inside edge to inside edge. So that's what you need to measure to get the correct size steps, correct width steps. And then you want to take a measurement from the ground to the top of your sill plate right here. So you can see what we're measuring, we're measuring inside of that lip and we're at 28 inches. So, that's the measurement you need to give you the correct steps. Now to measure your height, you're going to measure from the ground to the top edge of your threshold right there. And these steps are going to fit 34 and seven eighths up to 42 and three eighths distance there. As I mentioned, these are very easy to fold back up into place, we're simply going to lift them up. If you have your booster step out, there's a lever down here on the bottom, you're going to push it over, fold it up into place, and you're going to rotate them right inside the door just like that. Now let's say you wanted to take these out for some reason. These are actually not bolted in place so they're very simple to get out. You're going to fold them up like this, we're going to rotate them back just a little, we're going to lift, and they come out fairly easy.Maybe you're asking yourself, "Well, if they're not actually attached to anything, how they keep from bouncing around inside the camper when you're going down the road" Well, right on the inside here on this bracket, there are rubber boots. What they do is they sit against the plate right here. When you're installing it, close your screen door and you push the steps up against your screen door. You can see these rubber pads here, push it up against the screen door, you adjust those boots up against this plate. When you close your screen door, it keeps this solid against it so we don't have any movement out of the steps. Let's say we have our camper parked where we park it for the winter, for the off season. We park it in a lot and we have to get up close to another camper, or they parked them close or tight.Let's say we have to get something. Maybe we come back in the middle of the winter and we need to get something out of the camper, for the solid step or the MORryde step, they actually come up in here so when you fold them out, they fold out like this. So if you're parked close to someone, you're not getting your steps out. So that means if you don't have a second door, you're not going to be able to get in your camper. With these, we can basically pull them straight out and pull them straight down to the ground to get in our camper if we need to get anything. Now, keep in mind with them set up like this, this is just temporary. You don't want to actually use them like this consistently but again, this allows you to get into a tight space if you need to get inside your camper or RV to get something that you may have forgot.Another thing I like about these steps is they, you can also get hand railings and you can find those here at etrailer. The railing would go from the bottom up to the top, it mounts to the side of your camper to give you a little extra stability when walking in and out of the camper. The other thing they offer is if you have pets, a lot of times if you have steps that are open, a dog will get nervous about going up the steps because they can see through it and they're worried about falling through. Well, Torklift makes a cover that has hook and loop fastener, and it basically mounts to the backside lip of your step and provides them with a cover so they can't see through. They feel a lot safer when they're going in and out.Another thing that they make, now this is a really neat thing. This is the shoe scrubber and where this mounts, it mounts right to the side of the step and you basically just set it down on there. Put it right on the bracket and it allows you to clean off your shoes, boots, whatever it may be, before you walk up your steps into your camper so you're leaving all the dirt and debris out here and not dragging it inside. Now we didn't remove this customer's steps, or the factory steps that came on the camper because they're actually welded in. If you have welded in steps and you want to remove them, or if you have bolt in steps and you want to remove those, you can find storage boxes that will fill this space, and you can find those here at etrailer, to give you a little extra storage for any of those other items that you may want to bring with you. As far as the installation process, the installation process is pretty simple and straightforward. You're going to have a bracket here that basically spans from one side to the other side of the doorframe. It's going to fit on the inside and you can see this lip, it actually is going to get bolted through that. So other than that, that is really the only thing you have to install other than setting the steps into place. That's going to do for the look at the Torklift GlowStep Revolution Uprising.

I used these steps to replace the solid steps that came with our fifth wheel. The version of solid steps we had did not have a hydraulic lift kit available at the time and it was almost impossible for my wife to lower them. These were easy to install and now everyone can lower or raise them, since they are a lot more manageable. They can be used in tight areas like our storage lot or rest areas. Also I leave them out while hitching up, since they have enough play to raise and lower without binding (Not sure if that is a recommend use). I have had them for a year now with no issues or regrets.

Simple to install and love the lower rise height. Did have to do a little dremel work on a slooooopy weld that kept the stairs from deploying. Very pleased, now to see how well they "ride" inside. Great replacement for my Lippert Solid 2 step.

Easy to install. Just make sure if you have any drawers by the doorway, clear the lift brackets. I had to trim my cabinet drawer, which was no big deal.
Steps work great. Entry is a breeze.

Very pleased after one year. No issues and would buy again.

Review from a similar GlowStep Revolution Uprising in RV and Camper Steps

These steps were purchased to replace a factory set of MorRyde Step Above steps - excellent steps but with a fixed length. The fixed length did not allow us to get inside our trailer inside the storage barn.

The TorkLift steps are more flimsy (they flex) and don't have the side support of the MorRyde steps. The way they mount inside the door is not as robust as the MorRyde steps. To get a comforable angle we have to use the pull out bottom step everywhere we go (improved campgrounds) and those adjustable posts on the front corners will trip you all the time. The "glow" aspect doesn't apply to us because we use covers on the steps which covers them. The grooves in the steps are so aggresive they would grab our dog's claws (we keep them clipped). The big thing, and the reason they're still on, is that I can adjust them in the barn and get into the RV. If the ability to adjust the length wasn't so important I would put the MorRyde steps back on.

These stairs are a great upgrade over the factory floating style stair. The installation was very easy and took less than hour including time to get tools out and put them away. The steps easily fold in and out and have smooth operation.

My trailer was towards the upper end of the 4 step height range, time will tell if they are tall enough or if I should of gone with the 5 step version.
As a note the box used to ship the stairs was not up to the task and arrived heavily damaged. The box had no reinforced corners and the stairs were just wrapped with some paper. Luckily they arrived undamaged.

Review from a similar GlowStep Revolution Uprising in RV and Camper Steps

We LOVE our TorkLift Revolution steps. Our New Horizons fifth wheel sits pretty high off the ground, and having the Booster Step on the 5-step model has been great. We use that extra step more often than not. The steps are easy to pull out and put back in. And the glow squares are great when we're camping in a "Dark Sky" location. They're unobtrusive, but help us find our way in the dark. We have two of these, one for each entry door on our toyhauler. We've also used them like a ladder when stopping in tight places or on the side of the road where it slopes away too fast to put the stairs out. Very versatile and well-made, we highly recommend. In the photos, the back door has the 24" steps with the extra step not in use, and the front door (side with awnings) has the 28" steps with the extra step extended.

We still LOVE our TorkLift Revolution steps, and wouldnt trade them for anything else. We think theyre the best!

Review from a similar GlowStep Revolution Uprising in RV and Camper Steps

We bought Torklift Glowstep Revolution steps from etrailer.com for our previous 2016 Rockwood 8329SS, which had a stepwell. We have now traded for a 2019 Flagstaff 8321KBS (Forest River twins: same trailers and floorplan, made in same factory, different brand names, which doesn't have a stepwell to mount the Glowstep Revolution steps, so we had to order the Glowstep Revolution UPRISING steps for the Flagstaff, also from etrailer. The Flagstaff came factory equipped with the swing-out SolidSteps that fold upwards into the doorway, and there isn't room in our RV garage to open these steps. The Torklift Glowstep Revolution UPRISING steps were our only option if we wanted to gain access to the interior of our trailer while in the garage. Unlike the Rockwood, we had no stepwell in which to install the Glowstep Revolution steps, as we installed on the Rockwood. Like the Lippert Solidsteps, they also swing up to store upside down inside the doorway, but the folded stack of 5 steps is only about 2 feet high when folded and stored inside. Torklift Glowsteps can be used to gain access into a travel trailer in any "tight" place. They can be extended straight down and used like a ladder, if need be. I have disabilities, but the UPRISING steps were easier for me to install, because all the work was at waist level, instead of under the stepwell. The steps attach to the trailer doorframe with 6 bolts. You do have to do some precise measuring before you drill those 6 holes. It was tedious work to mark the holes, but not difficult. The UPRISING steps have a "booster" step under the bottom step that will fold out if the terrain surrounding the trailer is lower than the surface the wheels are parked on, and we have camped in sites that did require folding out the "booster" (5th) step, making a separate 4-legged platform unnecessary. All in all, we like the UPRISING steps just as much or better than the regular Torklift Glowstep Revolution steps that store in a stepwell. At 70 and 71, with my wife's "trick" hip and my "bum" knees, the 7 1/2-inch rise of Torklift's "scissoring" steps make it MUCH easier for us to get into and out of our RV than SolidSteps, Step Above, or factory hanging steps. Don't be worried about any minor 'flexing" of the steps when using them. You don't feel it, and Torklift has been making these steps for truck campers for a long, long time. However, we will be purchasing the Torklift "quick-connect" railing system soon. I am taller than my wife, and have little balance problems with them at this time, but with the 5th "booster" step deployed, my wife feels she may lose her balance if she doesn't go slowly and hang on to the door. It IS a "long way" to the ground when the "booster" step is deployed, and just this elevation can make some people feel uneasy without a railing for "reassurance". Even if we didn't have the clearance problem with the SolidSteps or Step Above steps in our garage, we still prefer the Torklft Glowsteps because of the reduced "rise" between steps. Family members have both of the other "swing-out" steps on their RVs, and it is MUCH harder for us to climb OR descend the others. The Glowsteps are somewhat more expensive than the others (the others don't FOLD), but we have NO regrets about the cost. Unfortunately, I don't have any photos of the installation at this time. We have been working on "personalizing" this new trailer to the extent that we had done on the 2016, and we have been busy! lol

Review from a similar GlowStep Revolution Uprising in RV and Camper Steps

This is one of the best products I’ve purchased. I replaced my Step-Above steps (<1 year old) with Torklift because of weight and ease of use...the coach parked next to me in storage never allowed enough room without pulling out my Solitude when gaining access. The install was a snap it took less than and hour with my buddy Tom. Matt at etrailor was top notch and helped coordinate the delivery while we were on the road. Five star rating for service, product and installation.

My Torklift stairs remains the best purchase I’ve made for my Solitude. No matter where we stop these conform to every situation.

They are sturdy and much easier and safer to enter and exit than the original single floating step.

Very well made steps. Took me about an hour to remove the old Moryde step above steps and install these in their place. Will definitely take care of my clearance issues. The box that the steps came in was decimated but all the parts were there and nothing was bent. Perhaps you could use a heavier cardboard packaging because one of the other channel guys said his packaging was totaled.

Just finished the installation. I replaced Mor-Ryde steps, which came stock in our Grand Design. The original steps are good, but we had Torkilifts on out prior camper and really liked them. They are sturdy and the level of the camper is not an issue anymore when wanting to open the camper door wit the Mor-Ryde steps. Definitely would recommend. (They are pricey, but it is a quality item.)

Thanks for the pictures of your steps on your RV. Right now it looks like you have the Lippert Manual Pull Out Steps part # LC432690. So for a similar Torklift GlowStep setup that would match the threshold height you have now of 40 inches you'd be best off with the 5-step part # TLA9105 which has a entry height range of between 34-7/8" to 42-3/8".
