Will Lippert Pull-Out Steps Work for You?
Pull-out steps are typically installed on travel trailers. The pull-out steps from Lippert are easy to install and fold up underneath the camper for simple storage. To ensure you choose the correct size for your application, there are a few measurements you will need to take.
The Lippert pull-out steps attach to the underside of the camper chassis, directly beneath the doorway. To decide which size you'll need, locate the space available underneath your camper that lines up with the door frame, and measure the width and depth. You will need a mounting space that is at least 27-1/2" wide and 12-3/16" deep.
If it turns out you have more or less space beneath your doorway, there are other step assemblies available with bracket sizes ranging from 25-1/2" wide to 28" wide. A full list of the available steps is below.
Outriggers - metal brackets that act as an extension (LC301704 - sold separately) - may be needed for installation depending on the model of your original stairs. These provide extra length if the old steps are longer or wider than the new.
Once you know where the mounting bracket will go and what size mounting bracket you need, that spot will be used as the "mounting point" to determine how many steps you will need.
How Many Steps Do You Need?
To determine how many steps you'll need, measure from the mounting point to the ground. This is called the entry height. The entry height should roughly match the height of the steps when they're fully extended, plus 6" to 9" to account for the drop from the bottom step to the ground. This measurement will also tell you how many steps you need.
The chart below displays entry height measurements in the first column. If you determined you need a 25-1/2" mounting bracket, the step part numbers with that width are in the second column. If you determined you need a 25-3/4" mounting bracket, the step part numbers with that width are in the third column. The steps for 27-1/2" mounting bracket widths are in the fourth column, and the steps for 28" mounting bracket widths are in the fifth column. Choose the bracket size that is closest to your measurements without going over.

As in the past, etrailer is the best. Always competitive pricing, fast processing and my product shows up fast. I had to replace the stairs on my 2003 Forest River Wildcat trailer and etrailer had the perfect replacement. And happily it was easy to replace, all the bolt holes are still the same after 18 years.760722
We use our trailer frequently and it doubles as a guest room at our home. Stairs are great. Prefer this type of stairs over the newer kind that stores inside the door. Just old fashion that way.
The Alum-tread steps are the perfect replacement for the worn and rickety OEM steps on our fifth wheel. They are well built, easier to use and seem to be sturdier. etrailer’s prices and service has always been exceptional. I recommend them and will order from them again.1208708
Had a shoulder bolt break on my alumi-tread steps. Unable to find parts to repair them, I started looking for the best price I could find to replace them. On etrailer website I found some used steps that were the same as mine. After talking to Lazer, I decided to order a set that I could use for parts. They came very quickly, but on inspection I discovered that I could not use them for parts. Even though they had the same part number and looked the same, they were constructed differently. Online the steps were described as being scratched and dirty, but I decided that they didn't look any worse than the ones on my camper. Took me about an hour to remove the old steps and install the "new" ones. I would caution anyone in my situation to be careful, Lippert has made changes. Fortunately, the frame is identical and bolt patterns are the same. I feel fortunate that I didn't have to buy a new set of steps because of a broken bolt. My thanks to Lazer and etrailer!612617
I just recieved my steps in a lot quicker than i expected, etrailer even called to verify my address, because it was an RV park. The steps were delivered right to my site. I just installed them it took me 30 min, but I already previously moved the old steps. Since my last steps were the same brand different model it bolted right up. The biggest challenge is the can be awkward and heavy. I am very pleased so far with my first experience with etrailer!361075
This was a replacement for Lippert steps that were original on my 2017 Grand Design.
it fit perfect. The difference is the original one was made out of cast iron and there's no way to repair them. The new one has a steel frame and if it breaks it can be welded. The handles or not on the original ones either. The new one is a much better product. Thanks!870959
Replaced solid steps with fold down steps. I had to cut opening in my lower skirt as mine was a new installation. The fold down steps are great as was my experience with etrailer955367
Received next day great service. Took about an hour and half to install. Seem to be sturdy well made and price was good. Would purchase from etrailer again.665559
The product what exactly what it was advertised as. The dimensions were spot on and were a help in making sure that I was getting an exact replacement. The new steps were also a lot easier to open and close than the original equipment on the trailer. I still have another set of the OEM steps on the trailer and will probably be replacing them with this product in the future.500848

The product what exactly what it was advertised as. The dimensions again were spot on. As with the first set, the new steps are a lot easier to open and close.
I bought the Lippert step after I pulled my trailer out of a car wash and forgot to lift the step. It was easy to install and I was pleased with the replacement Lippert because it worked smoother than the factory step.1107993

First of all, We Love this step! I had considered one of the steps that tip up inside of the door. Am I glad I did't go that route! After a summer of camping and talking with people , I realized the tip in step needs to be cleaned off before flipping into the camper door. That style also needs to have the legs adjusted every time you set up a new campsite. With the LC432696 it flips down with a lite pull and the third step flips over with the smoothest motion. Its easy to keep clean and when wet it doesn't get slippery like other steps. The step is very sturdy and very well made. I would give it 5 move stars if I could! Thanks for a great step! Wayne610878

Steps are great after installing them. Had the replace steps when a passenger car hit them in a RV park I was park at.
This product arrived and had all the necessary parts to complete the install. The box is heavy and I had to load it into a wheelbarrow to move the box. The instruction did explain the installation procedure. A side not although we my wife and I were able to complete the procedure it would be better with two strong men. She is very happy with this third step and will make climbing into the trailer easier on our next trip.902410

I am not totally convinced the steps are new. They seem to have been repainted in areas and the bottom angle is bent like it has been stepped on with the steps in the up position. Most of the stickers looked like they had been pulled off and then were tried to be stuck on again. The shipping box it came in was not adequate for the job and Lippert Components needs to rethink the shipping box as parts of the step were poking out all over the box. All in all it will be usable but I am certainly disappointed in the quality433656

I love how much lighter the steps are. I like the aluminum better than the corrugated steps that we had on it. Installation was pretty simple. It was a tight fit, but I never had to drill anymore holes, so it was an easy trade.1027357

I ordered these steps on Dec. 20 to replace the originals that I managed to mangle up. Was informed later that day by email and voice mail message that it was backordered until after Christmas and they would try to expedite. I received a shipment notice on Dec. 27, and the steps arrived yesterday (Dec. 29). So the customer service was great, they kept me informed throughout the process and delivery was free and fast. Very satisfied.
As for the steps themselves, they are exact replacements for the original, so installation was a breeze with four heavy duty bolts.463752

Need a welder to install, once I have that done I’ll submit pictures & a better review. My package arrived a day late, no fault of ETrailer, due to the 4th July holiday.
Package arrived in good shape as well as the 2 taillights was also ordered. Everything was packed very good. Stairs are exactly as pictured, very rugged & good looking.

The steps were exactly as advertised. The measurements were spot on and the installation was straight forward and easy. I ordered 2 sets all together and they work perfectly. I would suggest to anyone with the older steel pull out steps, to look into replacing them with these. They are lighter and easier to pull out and put back and they don't flip out when traveling.786331

I bought my steps a year ago. Love them. Easy to install. Bolted right up in same holes as old ones. I would totally recommend these to anyone. Especially the older generation of folks. Easy to operate with one hand582628

First time I have dealt with etrailer.com and I am impressed. Excellent... Excellent communication! Under promise and over deliver. The retractable steps I ordered for my Dutchmen trailer arrived 2 days early and looked great! I am pretty picky and have high expectations and these guys exceeded my expectations in EVERY way, including having the best price. I will be shopping here FIRST for all RV needs and wants going forward. What a pleasure to deal with folks who really care about providing great service!!421685
It sounds like you have a couple wires run backwards on your Lippert powered steps. Its hard to say exactly which wires are wrong but most likely a power wire and ground is backwards. The best recommendation I can give would be for you to go over the wiring and verify everything is connected correctly.
The green wire gets grounded to the chassis.
The white wire gets connected to the power switch which then goes to the positive battery post.
The yellow wire gets run to the a keyed power... view full answer...

The best Lippert Alumi Tread Pull Out Steps for your 2018 Montana High Country 305RL would be the part # LC432696 which has an overall height of 30-3/4 inches and is 27-1/2 inches wide. There is a good chance you'd have to install new outriggers too with part # LC301704 with the new steps. view full answer...
It is pretty common for the 3 step RV steps to be a couple inches wider than the 2 step options so I would not be shocked if the width of the Lippert steps # LC432696 being 27-1/2 inches is wider than what you have now. As long as you have the width needed for these to fit they would still work.
The brackets probably won't bolt right up so you could use the outriggers # LC301704 for new ones. view full answer...
Width wise the Lippert steps # LC432698 are going to fit great but the height of them when folded out would be an issue. From the top of the mounting bracket to the ground is 30-3/4 inches which is only a couple inches less than from your door to the ground. This to me would indicate that the lowest step wouldn't be able to fold out.
So instead the three step version part # LC432696 would be your best option. view full answer...
I did some checking and it looks like you bought the Alumi-Tread Manual Pull Out Steps # LC432696. The step rise of this has is 9 inch. For a similar RV step that has a lower amount of drop we have the part # LC432687 which has an 7 inch rise between steps. view full answer...
