Will Lippert Pull-Out Steps Work for You?

Pull-out steps are typically installed on travel trailers. The pull-out steps from Lippert are easy to install and fold up underneath the camper for simple storage. To ensure you choose the correct size for your application, there are a few measurements you will need to take.

Lippert Manual Mounting

The Lippert pull-out steps attach the underside of the camper chassis, directly beneath the doorway. To decide which size you'll need, locate the space available underneath your camper that lines up with the door frame, and measure the width and depth. You will need a mounting space that is at least 27-1/2" wide and 12" deep.

If it turns out you have more or less space beneath your doorway, there are other step assemblies available with bracket sizes ranging from 25-1/2" wide to 28" wide. A full list of the available steps is below.

RV Steps Outriggers

Outriggers - metal brackets that act as an extension (LC301704 - sold separately) - may be needed for installation depending on the model of your original stairs. These provide extra length if the old steps are longer or wider than the new.

Once you know where the mounting bracket will go and what size mounting bracket you need, that spot will be used as the "mounting point" to determine how many steps you will need.

How Many Steps Do You Need?

Lippert Manual Entry Height

To determine how many steps you'll need, measure from the mounting point to the ground. This is called the entry height. The entry height should roughly match the height of the steps when they're fully extended, plus 6" to 9" to account for the drop from the bottom step to the ground. This measurement will also tell you how many steps you need.

The chart below displays entry height measurements in the first column. If you determined you need a 25-1/2" mounting bracket, the step part numbers with that width are in the second column. If you determined you need a 25-3/4" mounting bracket, the step part numbers with that width are in the third column. The steps for 27-1/2" mounting bracket widths are in the fourth column, and the steps for 28" mounting bracket widths are in the fifth column. Choose the bracket size that is closest to your measurements without going over.

This page's step assembly is in bold text.

  1. Make sure the camper is level on flat ground
  2. Lift the steps into the mounting space and prop into place
  3. If needed, mark the mounting holes on the camper and drill

    -Set aside steps before drilling

  4. If needed, install the outriggers
  5. Align step mounting holes and secure in place with bolts and flange lock nuts

-Make sure the bracket is backed up fully against the I-beam on the chassis

    -Hardware not included

  6. Tighten hardware until snug
  7. Make sure assembly is sitting square and level
  8. Torque the hardware to 20 ft-lbs

We have sold the RV that I had purchased the steps for and just hung onto them. The RV that we replaced it with has a little better steps so I haven't installed the Solid Step on this one. I still may do it but this RV is a little higher off the ground so I don't know if the 3 step unit is going to be tall enough. The Lippert Solid Step is definitely an upgrade for anyone that has the manual pull out steps on their unites.

The product was excellent and an exact match to what was already on the travel trailer. 5 stars to etrailer and great service.

I bought a used fifth wheel that had a broken step on it, so I googled my trailers info and etrailer.com came up with the part number and price, ordered it and got it in four days and in a half hours time with my wife’s help we had it installed using a couple blocks of wood and 2x4. It feels nice and safe now.

Amazing product and outstanding service. I could not be happier. I had not seen a set of LCI fold up stairs installed on a step van and George was a lot of help with info I needed. I purchased a used set in case it didn't work and they turned out perfect.

Not that same quality as before. Shop for different brand. I bought two sets of steps from e-trailer a few years ago. When one got damaged I recently ordered another to replace it. The quality and appearance of the new set is not at all the same as the older ones. I suspect that most of the good reviews are for the older item. The new one has paint than looks like it came out of a spray can, armature looking welds, thinner weaker looking grab handles that look like they were bent by hand in someone's garage. I am very disappointed in the quality and disappointed that I could not get a set of steps that match the ones still on my other door. Aside from that they work and fit in place of the old ones just fine. But given the quality they are about double the price they are worth and not something I really want on my RV but I feel like I am stuck with them now.

I had to cut away a lot of metal to get them to fit 3 hours for installation.. that's the second product I bought from you that I had to modify

We have a bunkhouse Cruiser Aire. My wife had polio as a young girl and has problems getting up and down stairs, She is 72 and it became near impossible for her to access the RV. I built her some stairs from lumber and they worked alright, But it also gave me some added chores with a lot of straining to move them from the back to the door for her at every stop. I was absolutely surprised when I discovered the lippert steps with the shorter 6.5" rise. Believe me rise in steps is extremely important to handicapped people. These new steps have given new meaning to access for her. We are very happy we found Lippert steps through E-Trailer! We are going to buy another set next year for the rear door of the trailer. Great customer service and fast shipping! Glad your here!

We ordered new steps from etrailer for our 5th wheel when the metal tore on one side of our existing steps. We had done our homework - checked others sites. The difference - etrailer had the replacement steps in stock at a better price than most and answered my questions. The steps arrived as promised. Instructions were clear and the install was easy. I was able to do it without help.

Never, has a retailer contacted me a full year after the sale, to request my opinion. In this case, the steps were Perfect. Exact fit. The sale was Easy, and shipping was fast.

In our instance it was not just a bolt on install. Had to make some brackets for my travel trailer to attach the steps to, but since I am a sheet metal worker it was a fairly easy task. Love the steps, very easy to use. Will probably have to put a bungie cord across the step when folded up to keep it from coming down with vibration and any bumps. It may not be necessary but just as a precaution.

These steps worked perfect for our camper. The bottom step on ours broke and we needed to replace them. I was brought to this site after a search and found their instructions AND diagram of how to measure were extremely helpful. we found what we needed, placed the order and the steps were here within days. They are already on our camper. Great service and helpful information. Will definitely look back here when we need something else.

This company has the most amazing customer service ever. There was a delivery issue as it turned out we were outside the delivery zone from the distribution center but these amazing people not only found a way to get the product to us but got it here 3 days before the original delivery date. The steps are perfect. Sturdy. Beautiful. Easy to install. We could not be more pleased. Thank you etrailer.com we will never shop anywhere else.

The steps on the 2014 Winnebago travel trailer had rusted-out due to the spring-loaded pieces of grey non skid carpet always being wet in the stowed position. This replacement was a very simple bolt in with a good fitting bolt pattern and easy fold out operation. Of course you should stay on top of it with a little touch-up paint here and there cuz it's going to want the rust in the hinges and wear points but that is to be expected. Good product and I would recommend it

This company has provided me with exceptional customer service including fast shipping and what appears to be an outstanding set of steps for my 5th wheel camper. I would recommend them to anyone needing to replace their steps going in or out of their camper/motor home....Roy (I will be installing them soon).

The dimensions for the stairs that i purchased for my trailer were readily available on your website, which made the ordering process that much easier. The stairs fit perfectly into my trailer, no modifications or drilling was required, all of the bolt holes lined up. They were packaged very well and arrived at my home in beautiful condition. Good website, good shipping and a great product. I'm very happy with my purchase, I will definitely buy more products from you.

This unit matched up perfectly with the factory installed mounting holes. It is sturdier and better build than the original factory equipment. It does hang down an inch or so lower but that has not caused any trouble for us yet after more than 200 days traveling. A good investment.

  • Which Lippert Manual Pull-Out Step Is Correct for a 32 Inch Entry Height
The Lippert Manual Pull-Out Step for RVs part # LC432690 which is a triple step option would be best for an entry height of 32". The distance from the top of the mounting bracket to the bottom of the step is 25" therefore you will only have 7" from the ground to the first step which is perfect. Please note, you do need to verify the mounting bracket width is 27-1/2" which is pretty standard.
