The Kwikee steps include several safety features in an effort to prevent injury to you or your passengers and damage to the RV steps. If an obstruction is detected while extending, the steps will halt and retract back into the stowed position. Will Kwikee Electric Steps Work for You?

Electric steps are typically installed on RVs and some travel trailers. The electric steps from Kwikee install and fold up underneath the camper for simple storage. To ensure you choose the correct size for your application, there are a few measurements you will need to take.

Kwikee In and Out

The Kwikee electric steps attach to the underside of the camper chassis, directly beneath the doorway. To decide which size you'll need, locate the space available underneath your camper that lines up with the doorframe, and measure the width and depth. You will need a mounting space that is at least 30-3/8" wide and 22-7/8" deep.

If it turns out you have more or less space beneath your doorway, there are other step assemblies available with bracket sizes ranging from 24-3/4" wide to 37-1/4" wide. A full list of the available steps is below.

Outriggers for RV Steps

Outriggers - metal brackets that act as an extension (LC301704 - sold separately) - may be needed for installation depending on the model of your original stairs. These provide extra length if the old steps are longer or wider than the new.

Once you know where the mounting bracket will go and what size mounting bracket you need, that spot will be used as the "mounting point" to determine how many steps you will need.

How Many Steps Do You Need?

Kwikee Entry Height

To decide on how many steps you'll need, measure from the mounting point to the ground. This is called the entry height. The entry height should roughly match the height of the steps when they're fully extended, plus 6" to 8" to account for the drop from the bottom step to the ground. This measurement will also tell you how many steps you need.

The chart below displays mounting bracket widths in the first column and entry height measurements in the second column. The third column shows the corresponding part numbers. Use the mounting bracket width and entry height measurements you took to determine which part number will fit your RV. Choose the bracket size that is closest to your measurements without going over.

Video Transcript for Review of Kwikee RV and Camper Steps - Series 47 Motorhome Steps - LC427247

Ellen: Hey everyone, I'm Ellen here at etrailer.com and we're taking a quick look at the Kwikee 47 Series RV Step. This is a direct replacement from Lippert Components to replace out that step. It comes with the step frame and then also the motor and control unit to actually operate everything. If your original step got rested out, it's maybe no longer working or it got damaged somewhere along the way, this is going to be that replacement that you need to get that step going again. It's a different style than a lot of other RV Steps. You can see an example of it coming out and coming back in there.

It looks really nice.Usually these are going to also have a stainless steel cladding that goes over those steps to give them a little bit more of a finished look. This does not come with those from the manufacturers. That is something you'll have to get separately if you want to go that route. If you're not planning on getting that stainless steel or that chrome cladding to go over those steps, you will want to grab these guys. They're going to be the non-slip tread.

And you're just going to put those on the steps to give them some grip, because otherwise these are going to be really slick.Again, you only need to get those if you are not planning on putting any kind of covers over those steps, just a lot of RVs will have them already. That's what it originally comes with, but from the manufacturer they don't come with it for whatever reason. And we also don't carry it here at etrailer.com. So that's something that you're going to have to find elsewhere if you want to go that route. The non-slip trip though, is if you're not going to do that.

As far as the size and everything, we'll go over some measurements to make sure that this is the right direct replacement for your steps. Can sometimes be a little tricky to figure out which one is going to fit for you. So those measurements that you see on the screen are going to be the typical measurements to be able to figure out if this is the right fit.The entry height refers to. Excuse me, the extended height refers to the distance from the top most point to the rear most point whenever it's opened up. That doesn't change whenever it folds in either.

So both of those measurements you can see listed out there, it's taken from the same spot, highest point to lowest point. And that's the 11 and a quarter inch. Whenever it's measured from the widest point, the overall width, you can see that they're going from either side of the flanges here, it gives us 30 and three eighth inches. The bolt pattern on this one is a little bit different than some others, so you've got a range. For the width it's the same, and it's that 29 inches. But then we've got two slots to choose from for that hardware to go along. So at the narrowest, it's nine inches apart, at the widest it's 17 and a half. So just to give you that idea of where you can put that hardware. It should match up with what you already had. Does not come with mounting hardware, so you will have to reuse the old hardware from before.Last bottom we have there is the step size itself. So that's 26 and a quarter by three or nine and three quarters. This does have a rise of about eight and a half inches between the bottom step and the top step. So a little bit of a taller step in you might be used to at a residential house slip. Most steps are about seven or eight inches for the rise and this is a little bit taller, so just something to keep in mind there.Again, we've got our motor and the control unit already installed. You can see those in the back there. And that should be able to. Pretty much be all you need to get everything hooked up. Now something happened with your original wiring and you need a new pigtail, we do have those available here at etrailer.com as well. This is a separate part number, but you can find that listed on the product page. That's pretty much all I have to talk about with you guys today for the Kwikee 47 Series Step. I hope this has been helpful in figuring out if this is the right one for you. I'm Ellen here at etrailer.com. Thanks for watching.
