  • Have an entry height (distance from the ground to the mounting point) of about 20" - 23" and a mounting place of least 23-3/4" by 11-3/8"

No, if you:

  • Have wiring from previous Lippert steps and would rather save a little money by only getting the parts that have to be replaced

Will Kwikee Electric Steps Work for You?

Electric steps are typically installed on RVs and some travel trailers. The electric steps from Kwikee install and fold up underneath the camper for simple storage. To ensure you choose the correct size for your application, there are a few measurements you will need to take.

Kwikee In and Out

The Kwikee electric steps attach to the underside of the camper chassis, directly beneath the doorway. To decide which size you'll need, locate the space available underneath your camper that lines up with the doorframe, and measure the width and depth. You will need a mounting space that is at least 25-1/2" wide and 11-3/8" deep.

If it turns out you have more or less space beneath your doorway, there are other step assemblies available with bracket sizes ranging from 24-3/4" wide to 37-1/4" wide. A full list of the available steps is below.

Outriggers for RV Steps

Outriggers - metal brackets that act as an extension (LC301704 - sold separately) - may be needed for installation depending on the model of your original stairs. These provide extra length if the old steps are longer or wider than the new.

Once you know where the mounting bracket will go and what size mounting bracket you need, that spot will be used as the "mounting point" to determine how many steps you will need.

How Many Steps Do You Need?

Kwikee Entry Height

To decide on how many steps you'll need, measure from the mounting point to the ground. This is called the entry height. The entry height should roughly match the height of the steps when they're fully extended, plus 6" to 8" to account for the drop from the bottom step to the ground. This measurement will also tell you how many steps you need.

The chart below displays mounting bracket widths in the first column and entry height measurements in the second column. The third column shows the corresponding part numbers. Use the mounting bracket width and entry height measurements you took to determine which part number will fit your RV. Choose the bracket size that is closest to your measurements without going over.

Electric step assembly includes everything you need to automatically open and close the steps with your RV door. Motor and control unit extend and retract steps. Switch kit overrides step retraction. Amber light illuminates when steps extend.

The motorized steps were a perfect fit in my 1997 motor home. Wiring had been torn up on the old steps making it difficult to figure out the right connections to attach. The etrailer associates were very helpful in getting the right person to help me figure out what the previous owner had done to the wiring. I have recommended etrailer to other people because of the quality of the product and excellent help they were during the installation of the steps.

It is still working great even after many miles and lots of use.
Barry - 01/07/2021

The RV is the only thing that makes this not fun to install. Used a floor jack and some blocks of wood and it was easy installation day. Hooked up and grounded it worked as advertised. For me no electrical work or monkeying with the switches in the door. I removed the mag switch last year due to inadvertent extensions while driving and installed an up/down switch at the entry way.

Good product easy too install. Thanks Ashley for the fast service. It arrived at the destination where I installed it before I did.MOST purchases from etrailer have been as expected.

Step work great. etrailer service is the best. Only thing wrong with the steps is its time to sell the motorhome after 24 years of living in one. A great 24 years.
George H - 05/21/2022

I'd never ordered RV parts online, but the price for electric steps from my RV repair place was so high that I decided to do some research. We were able to save between $200 to $300 by ordering the steps from etrailer. I had the steps shipped directly to the repair place for installation and they've worked beautifully for more than a year. Etrailer even emailed me for a follow-up, something I didn't expect. I am not mechanically inclined so was a little worried about getting the right ones and getting them delivered, but everything worked perfectly. I'll definitely order parts from etrailer in the future.

The steps we bought from etrailer 2 years ago are still working great.

This greatly increases the safety of my frequent entering and leaving my RV by providing safe sturdy steps to grade. Otherwise, each time manual steps are stowed, it's a struggle to enter the rig with no steps and vice versa.

Yes I received my new steps today they look great. The tracking info was great, the prompt shipping, the day I order it was shipped the same day. I love that kind of service. SINGLE STEP CONVERSION TO A DOUBLE STEP
My coach had the single step 28 series, I order the 32 series two step. My coach always seamed like it needed another step. Very difficult when the airbags are in the normal or driving mode for my wife to get in and out of the coach. So I ordered the double step and I installed it today. The 28 series as a 22 inch by 6 1/2 inch bolt pattern the 32 series as a 22 inch by 8 inch bolt pattern. In which I knew when I order it. But when it got here the 32 series as bolt pattern for both 8 inch and 6 1/2 so I installed it set back about 2 inches to far back. So I drilled a 8 inch bolt pattern on my coach (very simply modification). After the slight modification to my coach it was a perfect fit. The bottom step is 8 inches off the ground, when the bags are fully deflated the bottom step is clearing the ground by about 1 inch. The single step 80 percent of the time was always to high. So I carried a portable step made for RV's. I will very seldom have to use it now. On the rare occasion if the step hits the ground on a steep incline then I may leave the steps in the close position and use the portable step. I want to thank again the staff at for the prompt service and the very good price, believe I shopped for a good price and your price was the best I found, thanks again. Very Happy customer

I have a 2006 Monaco Cayman. I read other reviews before purchasing this electric step as a replacement. It bolted right up to the existing holes, no drilling. The wire harness plugged into my existing wire harness. I am able to use the existing switch, but it works opposite with this step. No big deal. I did have to change the magnetic door sensor. I was also able to connect the porch light to the step light. If you have the steps extended when you start the engine, the do retract. Very easy installation. I do recommend this step as a replacement.

My steps started to work intermittently and they were rusty. So I Bought the 32 series steps for a replacement on my 1999' Winnebago Vectra Grand Tour. Bolted right up,plugged in the wire harness, and the steps started working perfectly! (Even with the old magnetic door switch!). I also added a large mud flap to keep road grime off the steps! Highly recommend etrailer. Very good price and "FAST" shipping too!

I would have given a 5 star if there were holes across the front of the mount plate. Other than that everything was great. I got the steps on the day they were supposed to be here. I had to change the electrical plug and the sensor switch on my door (which was provided) but every wire was the same color as the old wires so it was easy. It only took me about 2 hours from start to finish. I would highly recommend this company and will most likely be using them in the future.

One of the best companies I have ever worked with. Tara was great to explain the exact part I needed and the steps came shipped to me promptly and connected perfectly as it was an exact match on my 2005 motorhome. Thanks!

It arrive in good shape and is exactly the replacement part I needed. Thanks for doing your part to keep the supply chain strong.
A stocking distributor adds value to the products they sell.
Please keep up the good work.

Steps work great. I had them installed at Cummins Mid South in Columbia, Mo.
Look better than the original Coach Steps
Hopefully this set won’t eat motors like the Coach Steps.

Great price. Excellent and efficient customer service. What a fabulous experience. Thank you, etrailer!!

Installed easily. Only issue I had was with the step retracting and extending in reverse. Got that resolved and it works perfectly

Great replacement steps.

Information, photos, and measurements are Very clear to help you make an Educated decision.

Replaced an old Coach Step unit with a new Kwikee. Bolted right in and wired right up to the old harness. The only thing I had to do was change out the magnetic switch, because mine made the steps close when they should open. No big deal, and the magnetic switch came with the unit. Nice solid construction!!! Thanks Lippert Kwikee!!!

This product is the best for me because, all you have to do is bolt it on and connect the electrical wiring harness. This replace my worn-out electric steps to my RV.

These steps are working out great. The install was easy on my 2007 Class A Outlaw Toy-Hauler. Great product.
Jesse L - 09/22/2020

The steps work perfectly. They fit the existing bolts from the previous steps. The 4 pin plug matched up with the existing plug. It was an easy replacement.

Man I was expecting the steps days later and they’re here already. Kyle was extremely helpful making sure I got the right steps for my RV. Already on the site looking for more stuff

I've used the steps for a year, work great, the fit is right.

Can't say enough Chelsea was so helpful steps work great and the process was very painless

It came with all the bolts and wiring harness I did not have to purchase anything else I mounted it on a 2008 Georgetown MH in one afternoon by myself. I did spend the day before getting the tools necessary. The most important step in the whole process is raising it up level to mate with the MH studs. It helps to have the MH level and on solid ground. All the plugs were correct and the door magnets were easy to mount. Everything worked on my first test and it has worked perfectly for a year now. Local rv dealers wanted 4-500$ and they had a waiting list. etrailer shipped on time with plenty of directions that even I could understand.

It was an exact, bolt up, plug in replacement for the original. No problems, and every function worked. Amazing, really, on a 12 year old motor home, to be able to replace a part like that with no problems. The old steps weren't fully retracting, and got destroyed by hitting a rock wall.

Working just fine after a year

  • Upgrading 2005 Winnebago Journey 36G Single Entry Step to Double Step
Yes, you can upgrade your Kwikee 28 Series single step to the Kwikee # 372261 two step electric RV step. However, double check your measuerments as the 28 has a mounting bracket width of 24-3/4" and the 32 series has a 25-1/2" mounting bracket width. Also, the bolt pattern does not match so you will need to drill a few holes. This will certainly make getting in and out of your coach easier! I have attached a link to this page and a dimensional drawing to help you.

Something is miswired or shorting for sure. Definitely don't want to have the steps out while moving! I have included some pictures that should help. Do your steps operate with a manual override switch? If so then it is likely that switch. If the steps are supposed to lock out or unlock automatically when the ignition is turned on then it is likely the ignition wire in one of the connectors for the steps.
