Lippert 261 Dims Part 2

Lippert 261 Dims Part 2 (3)

Kwikee electric RV entry steps provide an effortless, convenient way to enter and exit your RV. The steps are wired to your RV's door and feature an automatic extension, unfolding when the door opens and retracting when it closes. This differentiates the steps from the alternate manual pull-out steps.

Motor, Gearbox, Linkage, Control Unit, and Switch Kit

The updated Kwikee steps manufactured since 1999 require the integrated motor, gearbox, and linkage (IMGL) setup to power the steps. The motor provides the power, the gearbox turns the linkage arm, and the linkage pushes the steps out and pulls them back in when rotated by the gearbox.

As the motor provides power to the control unit and linkage arm, the control unit that is wired to your RV power senses when the RV door opens and closes, and extends and retracts the steps in tandem. When you activate the rocker switch from the switch kit, the control unit will override the automatic retraction when the door closes. This will lock the steps in the extended position.

The switch kit consists of three pieces. The two magnetic sensor tabs mount in the doorframe and on the door. When the third piece, the rocker switch, is activated, and the two door pieces come in contact with each other, the steps will not automatically retract when the door is closed. This allows you to keep your steps extended when parked at the campsite.

The included 4-way plug fits into the existing wiring harness on your RV. Most vehicles should having this wiring already set up. In the event that your RV is missing the wiring, a 4-way pigtail is included to help you hardwire the unit to your RV.

Safety Features

The Kwikee steps include several safety features in an effort to prevent injury to you or your passengers and damage to the RV steps. If an obstruction is detected while extending, the steps will halt and retract back into the stowed position. The steps will also retract when you turn on the vehicles ignition, even if the automatic retraction override has been activated, in case you forget to stow them before driving away.

A built-in safety light is located underneath the mounting bracket for low-light conditions. The amber light automatically illuminates the steps when they extend. It will not illuminate, however, if you have the automatic extension turned off, which cuts power to the steps.

For added safety, the steps have a non-skid, textured coating. This textured surface provides traction and ensures that you have secure footing even when the steps are wet.

Installation

Installing the steps on your RV is simple. Pre-drilled holes in the step's mounting plate match up to holes in your RV's frame for an easy, bolt-on installation. You will need (4) 3/8" x 1" carriage bolts and 4 flange nuts, available in Lippert's mounting hardware kit (LC118155-72 - sold separately) to bolt the steps into place. Use 2 carriage bolts and 2 locknuts on each side to attach the mounting brackets to your RV's frame. If additional brackets are needed to mount the steps to the RV frame, and none are already installed, outriggers (LC301704 - sold separately) may be needed for installation depending on the model of your original stairs.

Video Transcript for Lippert Components RV and Camper Steps - Motorhome - LC372261 Review

Speaker 1: Today, we're going to be taking a look at the Lippert Quickie 32 Series Electric Step. This has two steps, you can see there, and has a max capacity of 300 pounds, and this step is going to make it really easy to get in or out of your RV because it's going to automatically deploy whenever you open the door to your RV, and automatically shut whenever you close the door. Now that feature can be switched off with the included switch kit, and that's nice when you're at the camp site, if you want to keep that step deployed since you're getting in and out of the RV, and you can just switch that to off so that the automatic sensor is off. It does have a safety feature so that whenever you turn on the ignition to your RV, that step will go back into its retracted position just so that you don't happen to drive off with your steps still deployed, having forgotten to switch that automatic sensor back on. So that's a nice thing that you don't have to worry about there. It's going to automatically retract again whenever the ignition is turned on.It does come with the wiring to get everything installed, so we're going to have our switch sensor here for the automatic open and close, and a retraction and extension on our step, as well as the wiring bundle here to power our step as well as the amber light that is included with this step.

I'll give you a little quicker look at the switch itself. It's just a simple toggle switch. A little rocker toggle switch has on and off there, so it's easy to see. Has a nice audible click, so you can just press this into the little plate that's included with that. Has these little keepers here, just press it into place once you have this in a spot where you like it inside your RV, and again, it does have this little plastic plate, two holes on the top and bottom so you can get that mounted where you want it to be.

Does not come with the hardware to get that mounted, but it does have those two pieces so you can get that in there. And again, that automatic switch, just going to be these two little sort of square block plates that are going to fit together. So you will install the just plain piece on your door, and then the other piece is going to go on the inside of your RV, and then wire it up to power and ground, so whenever your door opens, it's going to cut the connection there so it knows that it needs to be deployed as the step, and then whenever it shuts, it's going to again match up and it'll know to close. They both have little double sided tape on either side or on the backside so you can get that in place or you can use some little screws there. This does make it easy to get everything installed, and that wiring for all the other functions on your step is going to be a waterproof connection ,so you can see this little green sort of grommet around the connection there. That's going to keep it all water tight so you don't have to worry about any water getting in there causing any shorts or anything. We have a nice bundle of wires here for all those functions.

We've got our white, brown, yellow, and red. You can wire these into your RV's existing wiring to get everything connected. As far as the end of that switch, or of the wiring bundle, I should say, that's where they connect into the wiring on the underside of the step, so that just snaps into place. Can you hear that little audible click there To release it, you pull the catch on the top, and it'll pull apart. You can see how that green grommet sandwiches in there, and again, it's going to keep everything nice and tight.

So you pull that. And another thing to notice on this wiring bundle here, it does have a nice heavy-duty covering to keep that wire protected, and also weather tight. We have our ground wire, which is going to be this green wire with the large ring terminal on it, and also a purple wire, which you might not be able to see the purple part of it, but it has this little plug on the end that's for our light functions. So there is an amber light on the underside of the step here, and that's just going to help to illuminate your steps so whenever you're getting in and out and the dark, it makes it a little easier to see. Just tuck these up a little bit. Now another feature to make these easier to see is this reflective yellow strip that you can see on either step. This just adds a little bit of visibility to those black steps so that it makes them easier to know where your feet are going in those low light conditions. On the step as well is a nonskid surface. So it's kinda like a rough grain sandpaper. It just gives a really nice grit to the step so you don't have to worry about sliding off the steel there in any wet or muddy conditions. And this is a heavy duty steel construction with a nice powder coat, so you don't worry about any rusting or corrosion over time with this step, it's gonna stay nice for a long time.It does have air press rivets at all the pivot points, again for durability, and it has a solid steel drive rod, which is right under here, which is again going to extend the life of your step and the stainless steel bushings to provide extra durability. It does have pre-drilled holes in the top that should match up to the mounting location on your RV to make that a little easier to get installed. There are outriggers available if it doesn't happen to fit your RV, which are sold separately, then you can find those here at etrailer.com. Now you also would need to pick up a hardware kit. If you don't have any hardware on your RV from taking off the old step, you can pick up that RV hardware kit, here at etrailer.com as well. It just needs two carriage bolts and two lock nuts on each side to attach the mounting bracket to your RV's frame. As far as some measurements for this, again, it does have that 24 inch step ,and that's measuring from one side to the other. The mounting bracket itself is going to be 25 3/4 of an inch, and that's measuring from either of these bolts. As far as the depth of the mounting plate, that's going to be about 11 3/8 of an inch, and then whenever this is retracted and it's in its compact position, it's going to be about 7 7/8 inches tall. The step depths itself is going to be 10 3/4 of an inch from front to back, and the step height is going to be about seven inches. So from the top of this step to the top of this, is going to be about seven inches. As far as how far this extends out from the mounting position, measuring from this front surface to the front of the furthest out step, it's gonna be about 19 inches. That gives you an idea of how far that step does extend. One thing I forgot to mention as well with this step, and it's automatic triggering, it does have a safety feature if you we're to hit any obstacles like you pull up to a curb and it's a little closer or a little higher than you thought, and the step would run into it, it will automatically stop instead of trying to push its way through it, so that's a nice safety feature there to help maintain your steps for a long time. So that's going to do it for our look at the Lippert Quickie 32 Series Electric Step for your RV.

Yes I received my new steps today they look great. The tracking info was great, the prompt shipping, the day I order it was shipped the same day. I love that kind of service. SINGLE STEP CONVERSION TO A DOUBLE STEP 1999 ULTIMATE FREEDOM 40' MOTOR HOME ( WINNEBAGO) My coach had the single step 28 series, I order the 32 series two step. My coach always seamed like it needed another step. Very difficult when the airbags are in the normal or driving mode for my wife to get in and out of the coach. So I ordered the double step and I installed it today. The 28 series as a 22 inch by 6 1/2 inch bolt pattern the 32 series as a 22 inch by 8 inch bolt pattern. In which I knew when I order it. But when it got here the 32 series as bolt pattern for both 8 inch and 6 1/2 so I installed it set back about 2 inches to far back. So I drilled a 8 inch bolt pattern on my coach (very simply modification). After the slight modification to my coach it was a perfect fit. The bottom step is 8 inches off the ground, when the bags are fully deflated the bottom step is clearing the ground by about 1 inch. The single step 80 percent of the time was always to high. So I carried a portable step made for RV's. I will very seldom have to use it now. On the rare occasion if the step hits the ground on a steep incline then I may leave the steps in the close position and use the portable step. I want to thank again the staff at etrailer.com for the prompt service and the very good price, believe I shopped for a good price and your price was the best I found, thanks again. Very Happy customer 705233

I got the delivery the next day, and nearly everything was exactly what I had expected. A minor replacement issue (door sensor) caused me a little bit of trouble, but after I figured out that the old sensor, and the new sensor were completely opposite (contact open vs closed) I replaced the old with the new sensor and everything works great! 549603

The motorized steps were a perfect fit in my 1997 motor home. Wiring had been torn up on the old steps making it difficult to figure out the right connections to attach. The etrailer associates were very helpful in getting the right person to help me figure out what the previous owner had done to the wiring. I have recommended etrailer to other people because of the quality of the product and excellent help they were during the installation of the steps. 735992

Our old power entrance steps for our motor home gave up while on our summer travels. We called Lippert Components for help with replacement power steps. They gave us the part number information but didn't have any in stock. They recommended we calling etrailer. At etrailer we talked with Ian who confirmed they had the steps in stock. We further explained that timing was important and he made sure that the steps where shipped to the correct RV service center on time! Thanks Ian. 690039

The steps worked great. The service was excellent as the switch was lost in shipping and a new one was sent right away. I needed the new switch because the old magnetic switch had the steps going in when the door was open and going out when the door was closed. Thanks Etrailer 650550

I replaced a one step kwikee power step with the two step. Because It was a replacement, the installation of the two step was fairly easy. I did have to drill a few holes in the new step to match up with the old, but it wasn't a big deal. The new step works well and is a lot quieter than the old one. It was put on a 2004 Fleetwood Terra. 646917

I would have given a 5 star if there were holes across the front of the mount plate. Other than that everything was great. I got the steps on the day they were supposed to be here. I had to change the electrical plug and the sensor switch on my door (which was provided) but every wire was the same color as the old wires so it was easy. It only took me about 2 hours from start to finish. I would highly recommend this company and will most likely be using them in the future. 640898

It was an exact, bolt up, plug in replacement for the original. No problems, and every function worked. Amazing, really, on a 12 year old motor home, to be able to replace a part like that with no problems. The old steps weren't fully retracting, and got destroyed by hitting a rock wall. 640440

by:

I replaced the steps on my 2001 Holiday Rambler Endeavor motorhome (original part number 725-0001) with these. They were a good match for the original, although not exactly the same. The new ones included an additional connection to turn on the the step light when the porch light is activate. Usage is optional and I choose not to run an additional wire. The 4 pin connector and wiring matched the old, so electrical connection was simple. The included door sensor works opposite from the original, so it had to be installed for the steps to operate correctly. I just had to remove a trim piece along the side of the door and splice in the new sensor to the existing wiring. It was attached to the frame with the included double sided foam tape. I used the existing magnet on the door, but the kit also includes a new one. The mounting holes matched my old steps, so that made installation pretty easy (with a helper). There were several different mounting patterns available. 637730

Received as promised the steps arrived fine, better condition than the packaging. Opened the box, opened the instructions and performed the the 4 way connector that is on the Motorhome just to make sure I wouldn’t have any problems with the installation. Found the door contact on the Motorhome is a normally closed and the controller works with a normally open. I will be looking for a 3/4” round mag switch (normally open) so I don’t have to use the surface mounted mag switch. I’ll continu when I get this resolved. The surface mounted mag switch woul work but I like keep things looking like original. See you back in a couple of days. 636079

  • Replacement Electric Coach Steps for 2008 Georgetown Motorhome
I could not confirm the Lippert 32 Series Double Step Frame # LC3722618 (Lippert part 908032000) as the correct item for your application. My contact at Lippert did not recognize the OEM Frigette coach step that came on your Georgetown and he suggests you install a complete new step to avoid potential compatibility issues. We have motorhome electric steps in three widths, 24-, 25- and 30-inches. Since most are the 24-inch width I linked products in this size for you. If yours are a different...

  • Replacement Step Needed for Double SCS/Frigette Coach Steps 733-0001
I reached out to my contact at Lippert who said that the 733-0001 number you gave me does look like a Coach Step number but he wasn't able to find anything in their system with it. Is there another number somewhere on the steps that has 6 digits and could you let me know how many steps you currently have? If not could you possibly send me some pictures of the steps so I can reach out to my contact and see if they can help me get the correct replacement for you.

  • Are Replacement Parts Available for Kwikee Steps Made in 1989
I do have options for you but the cutoff date for replacement parts on Kwikee Steps is 1999. I spoke with Lippert and they said you most likely have a pre pre-IMGL step in which case none of the control modules will work for you. If it turns out you instead have a pre-IMGL 1999 or later model then you can use the Lippert Components Kwikee 9510 Control for IMGL/9510 Step Control part # LC379146 but if not your only option would be to replace the steps altogether. If you can get me your part...

  • Kwikee Double Step on RV that Doesn't Retract During Short Stops
Since you said the issue occurs during short stops which would typically indicate the steps being used more frequently I'd say it sounds like a weak motor not able to extend/retract as needed. When electric motors start to fail typically it's when they are warmed up when they have issues. A Kwikee double step is most likely the 32 series like the part # LC372261 which would use the part # LC379147 as a replacement. Now if you are hearing any odd noises or there are other details...

Thank you for the pictures- they're always helpful! I have a solution for you, but the Lippert gear box you were looking at is a replacement for the newer Kwikee 32 Series Steps. I spoke with my contact at Lippert and they said that the gearbox 151320 that you've got has been discontinued, and there are no available replacement parts for those models. Unfortunately, that means you'll need to replace the entire Kwikee steps unit. You can replace your Kwikee 32 series steps with # LC372261...

  • How to Measure to Select Replacement Electric RV Step Assembly
We do offer quite a few powered and manual replacement RV steps so I understand the challenge of figuring out the right ones for any given RV. The key to selecting replacements is knowing the overall size of the step unit, the step mounting hole spacing, both left-to-right and front-to-back as you're looking at the RV, and the retracted height, which affect ground clearance. We provide this information for all of our RV steps. The Kwikee 32 Series Double Tread Electric Step # LC372261...
