If you want the complete step assembly that also allows you to override the automatic retraction so the steps stay out whether the door is open or closed, you will need a switch kit. The complete assembly with steps, motor, control unit, and switch kit is available under part number LC3658373.

Safety Features

The Kwikee steps include several safety features in an effort to prevent injury to you or your passengers and damage to the RV steps. If an obstruction is detected while extending, the steps will halt and retract back into the stowed position. The steps will also retract when you turn on the vehicles ignition, even if the automatic retraction override has been activated, in case you forget to stow them before driving away.

Will Kwikee Electric Steps Work for You?

Electric steps are typically installed on RVs and some travel trailers. The electric steps from Kwikee install and fold up underneath the camper for simple storage. To ensure you choose the correct size for your application, there are a few measurements you will need to take.

Kwikee In and Out

The Kwikee electric steps attach to the underside of the camper chassis, directly beneath the doorway. To decide which size you'll need, locate the space available underneath your camper that lines up with the doorframe, and measure the width and depth. You will need a mounting space that is at least 25-1/2" wide and 11-3/8" deep.

If it turns out you have more or less space beneath your doorway, there are other step assemblies available with bracket sizes ranging from 24-3/4" wide to 37-1/4" wide. A full list of the available steps is below.

Outriggers for RV Steps

Outriggers - metal brackets that act as an extension (LC301704 - sold separately) - may be needed for installation depending on the model of your original stairs. These provide extra length if the old steps are longer or wider than the new.

Once you know where the mounting bracket will go and what size mounting bracket you need, that spot will be used as the "mounting point" to determine how many steps you will need.

How Many Steps Do You Need?

Kwikee Entry Height

To decide on how many steps you'll need, measure from the mounting point to the ground. This is called the entry height. The entry height should roughly match the height of the steps when they're fully extended, plus 6" to 8" to account for the drop from the bottom step to the ground. This measurement will also tell you how many steps you need.

The chart below displays mounting bracket widths in the first column and entry height measurements in the second column. The third column shows the corresponding part numbers. Use the mounting bracket width and entry height measurements you took to determine which part number will fit your RV. Choose the mounting bracket size that is closest to your measurements without going over.

Video Transcript for Kwikee 25 Series Replacement RV Electric Steps Install - 2008 Fleetwood Tioga Motorhome

Hey everybody, Ryan here at etrailer.com. Today we have our Fleetwood Tioga and we're going to be taking a look at our steps. Now as you can see the electric steps currently function properly. However, there's a couple issues, the first step is way high off the ground, so if you have trouble getting up and down the stairs, this can make it unsafe getting in and out of your motor home. There're also pretty wobbly and that can cause you to lose your footing as well. Our new steps are going to be a great replacement and upgrade over these current ones.

It's going to add an additional step, which is going to put the last one a lot closer to the ground. So, that's going to make it a lot easier for us to get up and down.Something you don't always think about as well is if you have small pets, that might be hard for them to get up and down when it sits up so high, then that means you're going to have to bend over, to pick them up. Well, with this one down here that might allow them to easily get up and down without your help needed. These are definitely going to solve the problem of your step being too high off the ground. As you can see, this first one is really easy to reach, and there're also nice and wide, that way there're easy to travel up.

Now, each step does have some grip tape that way it ensures a good footing and they also have a bright yellow line to help you see in low light situations. As you can see our steps retract pretty quick, and now it's simple to get and then out of our motor home. Now these steps do have a couple of safety features. One of them being, say if you retract your steps and there's a curve here and they can't come out all the way, if it feels enough pressure, it'll actually turn off power to the motor, that way it won't overheat or burn up any wiring or your motor. Same thing on the inside, if something happens to get inside of here and the steps go in, it's going to feel that pressure and turn off the power.Another cool safety feature is when you have the steps in this position, when you have the power turned off on them, that way they'll stay fixed in this position. Or in other words, they won't work when you open and close the door.

If you happen to forget about turning the switch back on and you go to leave and put the key in the ignition, as soon as you put that key in the ignition and turn it forward, the steps are going to come up regardless. I'll show you that now.Even though we add in another step, when there're in the stored position, there're going to fit nicely in our opening. As you can see, the built-in bite underneath will help even more when it's nighttime. Now I went ahead and measured the step and on flat ground here from the ground to the top of the step is about 15 inches. Something you got to keep in mind is you're probably always going to be on perfectly level ground.

So, if you are parked in the ground is that we'll down, that 15 inches could potentially turn into 20 or more. From this step to the top of this one is right under eight inches. Now, although the distance between these two steps don't change, the distance from our bottom step to the ground is only seven inches as compared to the old one, which was 15 inches . The entry height will be 21 and seven eighths of an inch. The step dimensions will be 24 inches wide by 11 and one eighths of an inch deep. Our mounting bracket is going to be 23 and three quarters of an inch wide by nine and five, eight, seven inch tall, and finally 11 and three eights of an inch deep. Our drop and rise is going to be eight inches. These stops are very durable and do you have a 300 pound weight limit. That's a pretty straightforward installation, I'll show you how to do it now. To begin our installation, we're going to want our original steps to be extended. Go ahead and open our door to get them in that position. Then what we're going to want to do is make sure the power to our steps is turned off to remove our old steps. We're going to need to work underneath them right here. Now here on the bottom of the step, you can see we have our electric motor and all the connections, we're going to want to undo those connections. For these style of connections you simply push up on this tab and pull them apart from each other. For this style, there'll be a tab in the center and I want to push down on it and pull it out. There's going to be a bolt in each corner of the top of the step, holding our steps into place. We're going to have to remove those, to drop our steps down. Now, whenever returning this, the top or the head of the bolt is going to want to spin as well. So, we're going to take a box wrench to keep that head of the bolt from spinning. What I'm going to do is I'm going to leave two of these one on each side, just hand tight, that way when we removed the rest of them, the steps won't come falling down on us, and it'll be a little more manageable to get them down completely. To help us safely completely lower down our steps, before I take out the last two hand tight bolts what I did was I actually took a forge Jack and a block of wood and put upward pressure on the bottom of our stair here, and that way it's holding it tight against the bracing. That way we can then remove our last two hand tight bolts. And then we can actually get out from underneath the motor home and slowly lower our Jack to get the steps out. With all of our hardware out we can then hold our steps by hand, and at the same time lower our Jack stand down.We can actually pull them out from underneath the motor home. All right, I went ahead and put our new steps on our floor, Jack. That way it's easier to wheel back under the motor home. And then we can use the floor Jack to lift it up into place. Now these are going to Mount in the same exact way as our old ones did. Now, if he wants to, you can reuse your hardware if it's in good condition, or you can use new hardware. We're going to use some new hardware. You can pick it up from your local hardware store. You do just want to make sure that you have a flat washer right underneath the head of your bolt. And so it's going to drop in like this. And then on the bottom side of this step, you're going to want to use a flat washer and a nylon locking nut. We went ahead and used our floor Jack to put upward pressure on our new steps up against the frame. And that way we can line our holes up and drop our new hardware through. Now, with the steps in this position, we're only going to be able to install the two bolts closest to the center of the motor home. So, with those in place, we're going to tighten them down, move our four Jack out of the way, and then we can focus on hooking up power to our motor, and once it's powered up and we can let the steps down and install the other two bolts. Now I went ahead and moved our four Jack out of the way, and now we can plug in our electrical connections. Now it is a good idea, even though we turn the power off to our steps to go ahead and close that door just in case there is any residual power, the stuffs won't retract down. And I went ahead and turned the power on and opened up our door to retract our steps. Now, with them in this position, we have enough room to be able to secure the rest of our hardware. This green wire with the pre-attached ring terminal. This is going to be a chassis ground wire. So you're going to want to secure this somewhere along the chassis. Well, it's convenient right here in our frame. There's actually a bolt coming through connected to the chassis. So, what we're going to do is remove this and then put our ring terminal over that bolt and re-secure all down. Now I went ahead and just used a few zip ties to secure our wiring up and out of the way. Now with everything bolted off and all of our electrical connections made, we can go ahead and test the operation and make sure everything works properly. And that'll do it for our look at and installation of the Lippert Kwikee 25 series electric steps on our 2008, Fleetwood Tioga Motor home.

I purchased a RV electric extending set of steps (3), and I am very satisfied with the quality and price of the product, price (best on web!), customers service, and the free fast 3 day shipping across the US. The box it ships with was pretty much unable to handle the weight and six but since the step assembly is 87 pounds and all steel, it was not an issue. Thanks etrailer.com.

Review from a similar Kwikee 25 Series in RV and Camper Steps

> The Kwikee Electric Steps arrived in excellent condition Via UPS. The internal packing was minimal > so it must have been a smooth ride as the box showed no signs of damage. > The weight of the step assembly makes the job look to be more intimidating than it really is. > Start by removing all power from the affected circuits, after extending the steps fully. Disconnect all wires via the connectors as well as the green ground wire that fastens to the chassis. > Extending the steps allows easy access to the four 9/16 in nuts/bolts that secure the base plate to the > RV structure. I supported the weight of the assembly with a common brick at the center of the middle step > as the extended steps began to droop as the bolts released tension on the mounting plate. > The outer step will touch ground first as things begin to droop and the remainder of the weight will be supported > by the brick. No drama but be careful if things look less than stable. > > Now this next part requires checking what the Vehicle Up fitters did when mounting the original step assembly. > In my case, Fleetwood modified the mounting hole arrangement. Standard configuration mounting holes are 22 inches > by 8 inches. Fleetwood left the outer mounting holes as stated but assumed a somewhat random spacing of 9 1/4 inches in > the other dimension, thus requiring that a slot be fabricated. Air powered jigsaw and a Dremel Tool made short work > of this. Warning here is to be certain of the mounting centers before starting the second half of the job. > > This next part was almost pleasant. I used a hydraulic floor jack with a buffer section of wood to prevent scratches > Balance the step assembly and buffer on the jack as you roll the jack under the RV. Center the approach by eye > and marvel at the four bolts peaking through the mounting holes. Raise the jack and position the bolts as you go. > Finger tighten the nut/washer at each hole finger tight. Release the jack and let the steps hang loosely. Reconnect > the wiring checking that the loose hanging wires will clear all moving parts of the mechanism and extend the steps > under power. You can now proceed to tighten all the fasteners in sequence to gradually raise the steps to the final > position. > > This job was a replacement/repair and was a true Plug n Play operation. It all worked as expected, first time. Nice!

Review from a similar Kwikee 25 Series in RV and Camper Steps

Whilst I cannot fault etrailer, their service and delivery of product is quite good. There were some issues with this product I ordered from them. First off it came without critical parts, the linkage between the motor gears and the step, making it useless out of the box. Secondly, it was supposed to be a clean swap between the old 2 step that I removed... but turns out it was NOT the same bolt pattern. I had to WELD additional metal plates to the new step, drill the holes for the appropriate bolt pattern and only then, was I able to affix the 3 step model to my RV. In addition, after much consulting with the manufacturer of the step, it turned out that the motor had been wired incorrectly and I had to switch the polarity of the motor for the steps to function properly with the door and the switch that allows the steps to STAY down whilst camping and still be able to open and close the door. Let's just say... it was extremely problematic getting this product installed and made to function properly.

The steps were easy to install with all the original mounting points lining up perfectly. I unplugged the wiring from the old steps, removed the bolts and was ready to begin installing the new steps. With the aid of a jack, the new steps were lifted into place and the mounting bolts installed. Then I plugged in the wiring and the new steps worked perfectly. After a year of use, they are still working great.

Review from a similar Kwikee 25 Series in RV and Camper Steps

Steps arrived on our door step in badly beat up cardboard box. Minimum damage to actual step unit. A few scratches, but tollerable. Challenge was to remove the old unit. Lots of "liquid wrench" needed on the four nuts holding the old unit in place. Needed strong assistant to manage the floor jack while positioning the new unit into place. Twenty-something sons are good for something after all :) Definitely watch the videos on etrailer.com for tips on how to remove / install the unit. Took 2 days of repeated administration of liquid wrench to be able to break the nuts free and uninstall the old steps. Be patient, you don't want to strip the nuts or you will never get the old steps off. In my case (2005 Winnebago Adventurer) I did not need to install the new magnetic switch set, the existing system worked just fine. Connected the 4 wire connector and everything worked fine. Exception is that the steps "on and off" switch is now reversed... I can live with that. I will relabel the toggle switch. In my case the repair shop I usually use wanted $1600 just to Mickey Mouse a replacement motor into the original unit. With etrailer.com I spent $900 and about 4 hours of manual labor for a brand new step unit. I would highly recommend this unit.

Review from a similar Kwikee 25 Series in RV and Camper Steps

I ordered these 3 steps without the motor to replace steps I trashed while backing up. The previous steps were almost new when I trashed them, so I decided to try to just replace the steps and move the electronics & motor to the replacement steps. The ones I bought from etrailer were listed as "used" due to scratches & scuffs, making them about $140 less than the new ones. When I received (in about 3 days) them they looked new with a few chips out of the paint. I moved the electrical stuff over and positioned them under the coach. They are really too heavy to install without a lift or extra person, but I was able to get them aligned and a nut started ... so they were on the only remaining issue was the bolt that actuates the steps needed to be inserted. This requires one to use the door to auto retract the steps (a little) to be able to insert the bolt. I was able to close the door while under the coach allowing the mechanism to come in far enough to get the bolt in and unplugged the steps to stop them from going back out. The steps look and operate as NEW!!! The etrailer staff are very professional and helpful and quick to follow up if needed. Top notch service and excellent discounted product. Thanks,
