Randy: Hey guys, it's Randy here at etrailer.com. Today we're going to be taking a look at a couple of bumper mount hitches available from Ultrafab. These are designed to work on square, whether that's four by four, or four and a half by four rear bumpers. Want to make sure that it's a solid bumper. But it's going to give you an additional attachment point here on the back, with a two inch by two inch receiver tube opening. Now in the under mount position, mounted under our bumper, this is going to be ideal for your ball mounts, they're for towing. It can also be flipped over and mounted on top, if you want to use cargo carriers or bike racks.
All in all, it gives you a 350 pound tongue weight rating. That's going to be the maximum downward force we can put on it. It gives us a 3,500 pound gross trailer weight rating. That would be the total weight of our trailer, and anything we we're to load up on it.Now in most of your usage situations, you're going to be using this for small utility trailers, maybe a few ATVs you want to take with you, maybe a smaller boat. Or, it's going to help you to get additional items.
Maybe you don't want a bunch of muddy items inside of your camper, throw them on a cargo carrier back here.I like bike racks in this style of hitch. They're going to come out, you want to of course choose something that's RV or travel trailer approved, but it allows you to hang them just like you would on the back of a car versus the ladder style racks where they kind of hang up and down, are a little bit of a pain to get the bikes loaded up on.Now here in the bottom, you can see we've got the round steel stock style safety train connection points, and it's going to use a 5/8 diameter pinhole. That's going to be pretty standard with most class three, you just want to choose a pin that's rated for class three. There's also going to be decent room mass, so if you want to use an anti-rattle device, or even a locking hitch pin, you shouldn't have any problem there. Holding it onto the bumper, you can see we're going to have the large U bolts.
Those are going to be secured using a flat washer, lock washer and a nut. We want to be sure you get those torqued down properly. We'll torque down the two here at the rear first, then go to the ones in the front.White zinc finish on all the hardware. That should help to resist a lot of corrosion we'll be dealing with, and then the black powder coat finish is going to help make sure this lasts for a very long time. Now we'll take a second and kind of do a comparison. We'll compare our Ultrafab versus some of the other styles that are available design like this, and also the cross tube style.
The one thing I would watch out for, especially if you're going to be hauling a trailer, is to make sure that the wrap around type like this, if this is what you go with, Is rated for use with trailers. Some of them are not rated for that. Some of them are just rated for cargo carriers and bike racks. You want to keep that in mind. The other type that we have would be . Or, if you want a little bit higher capacity, we've got them to where there's a cross tube that goes all the way across, and you'll actually mount plates onto the frame of your RV, on both sides. It's going to give you more of a traditional style hitch, with a cross tube and the receiver tube opening. That usually adds some weight capacity, so if you've got heavier loads, or heavier carriers, I'd probably go that route, but keep in mind there's often welding and drilling that's going to be required when getting those installed. Now, regardless of whether you have the 4" by 4", or the 4" x 4.5" bumper, we need to mount our hitch on there dependent on our use. For ball mount use, if we're going to be towing with it, we want this to be up on the bottom, just like that. You can see we've marked the center of our bumper. We want to keep it close to the center, especially for ball mount use. For bike racks or cargo carriers, we want to mount that on there the opposite direction. So, the weight's pressing down. We're going to mount them with the two U-Bolts that are provided. This needs to go down and around the bumper. We'll get our hardware ready here. We'll slide that right up and on. Now at each spot here, we want to put on a flat washer, a lock washer and a nut. Now, we'll just select the position. We want to make sure our U-bolts are running up and down, then we can snug up my nuts there. Wrench size you'll want to use a 19 millimeter, or a 3/4 inch. Now with those snugged up, it's time to get our bolts torqued down. You want to go with the specifications that are listed in your instructions. We're going to do the two on the rear first, then the two in the front. That's going to complete our look at the Ultrafab Bumper Mount RV hitches.

This powder coated steel receiver clamps around your RV's 4" square bumper to provide a 2" x 2" trailer hitch receiver opening. Perfect for hitch accessories or light-duty towing.Product fit perfect. Easy to install. Very happy with the hitch, Only one problem, the anti-wobble bolt on the side would not fit because U-bolt is in the way. You can only get the bottom anti-wobble bolt in. (See 2 pictures) I solved that problem by cutting off the end of the U-bolt that was in the way. They just need to move that hole back a bit more. Now I have both bolts on and cargo carrier is solid.
The bolts on the top are not long enough. I had to buy longer bolts. The bolt on the side that secures the hitch to reduce the movement is too long. The u-bolt is in the way. I had to buy a shorter bolt. The bolt hole needs to be repositioned so the u-bolt will not interfere.
This fit very well, only problem is the side anti wobble bolt won’t fit when the U bolts are installed. Note submitted picture.
Will not slide properly over my 2” hitch, machined wrong, the holes for the hitched pin indent in on the hitch, will not work. This is my second try, I wish they would inspect there products before sending them out as I am stuck with no way to move.. will be asking for a full refund.very disappointed!!
The top bolts were half inch to short. I had to go buy longer ones that cost $x.xx then only one of my hitch shanks will go far enough in to line up the holes for the pin.
Installed this hitch on my fifth wheel to pull my side by side to the upper peninsula in Michigan, however I would recommend that you be sure your bumper is capable of the weight being towed. I personally removed my existing bumper and welded on a much heavier steel bumper. This hitch did exactly what was expected of it, thanks so much to Kirstin for her help at checkout
Not much to say except it installed easily and it did its job. Never loosened and it kept the verti rack snug with little bouncing around. great product would buy again or recommend.
This bolt on hitch worked as advertised. Important to get the bolts sufficiently tight. I used this product to hold a cargo carrier on 2020 Colorado camping trip.
This bracket provided me the means to mount the receiver style spare tire b racket on my Class C RV. By mounting it upside down, it placed the weight squarely on the frame, leaving the u-bolts to merely hold it in place.
The product arrived ahead of schedule. etrailer upgraded my shipping at no extra cost! It fit on my bumper with very little problem. It was tight because of my chrome covering, but I expected that. I did have to replace two of the nuts that would screw on, and I had wanted to place it above the bumper but the body of the trailer wouldn't let me. I haven't gotten a bike carrier yet, but I wholly expect it to work just fine. I would have given it an excellent but for the bolts I had to replace.
Works great used on trailer bumber for portable refrigerator to carry on cargo unit. Had to beef up bumper with angle iron due to weight ...no bounce at all with hitch
I needed a way to carry our mountain bikes when we go traveling with a our RV. The Ultra-Fab Hitch receiver fit perfectly on the 4x4 rear bumper allowing me to carry our bike rack. I feel I could even tow my golf cart trailer behind my RV with this hitch if needed. Very easy to install with a simple socket set and torque wrench.
not a bad product had to file the inside of the receiver to remove burrs from the cross hole but made it work
Very easy to install (my four year old helped me). We used it for our bike rack on the back of the trailer so it was installed on top of the bumper instead of underneath. This thing holds it very solid.
Product looks and feels very solid and well made. Only took me 5 mins to install. Can't wait to see how it performs as we head out in the next few days. I will be carrying my generators and gas and kids bikes on it. Thank you again etrailer.com for an easy purchase with all of the info i could ask for on your website to help make the best selection for my needs.
Cold the cargo rack on the rear of our travel trailer.I bought it so that I can lock my generator to it when we’re traveling.
Love this hitch my only comment actually comes from Son-in-Law who installed it, and he said the top bolts could have been a bit longer making install easier.
Seems to work great. I use this to pull my atvs on an aluminum trailer behind my trave trailer
Disappointed in bolt as I had to go get new ones. The bolts were fine threads and the nuts were course thread. That is poor quality control.
I used this receiver to mount a bicycle carrier on the back bumper of my Casita trailer and could not be happier with how it has performed. I also sometimes use it to mount a hitch platform for carrying bulky items.
The receiver was the best we could find. The mounting was easily installed following the installation instructions. However, we had one problem. A design issue with the receiver.
After the installation, the side mount, fine threaded bolt to stabilize movement between the receiver and the hitch mount was drilled and threaded directly in line with the u-bolt. We couldn't get the bolt installed. We had to cut the bolt down to get it threaded.
The solution would be to reposition the threaded hole so it would not be in line with the u-bolt.
We are very pleased other this one issue. The utility carrier is very happy. Thanks for creating this great product.
Well constructed, very easy to install, negates fabricating or adapting a hitch by taking advantage of existing 4" bumper.
work great,mounting just right
Works great
I mounted 2 on my camper bumper. One for a bike rack and the other for a swing away grill. Super happy w the product and the results.
