Video Transcript for Curt RV and Camper Hitch - Frame Mount Hitch - C13702 Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Curt adjustable width trailer hitch for RVs. This universal hitch is designed for use on RVs and motor homes. It's going to come with everything that you see laid out here on the table. It's also going to come with some detailed installation instructions to help walk you through that whole process step by step. The unique design of this hitch that makes it a universal design is really these slide along frame brackets. These heavy duty side brackets are going to allow for maximum adjustability.

They slide over the ins of the hitch and then you can slide these to wherever you need for your application. This particular hitch is designed to fit frame widths from 18 inches to 51 inches wide. It's going to work on box frames, C-channel frame, or I-beam frame. It's going to let you position the two mounts inward or toward the front or the rear. That's going to allow you to put the hitch body in the best location for clearance for your particular application. Now installation hardware is all laid out here on the table that is included for bolt on installation.

If you are doing a bolt on installation, drilling is required. You'll need to drill into the tubing of the hitch to get these attached to it. Once you have your location set, then you'll need to drill into the frame of your RV or motor home to get these brackets attached to it as well. The unit can be welded on as well. If you choose to do that, but again the hardware for a bolt on installation is included. Now the hitch itself is going to feature a high gloss black powder coated finish, it's going to do a great job at resisting rust and corrosion.

It's going to be resistant to scratches and UV damage. It's going to feature secure all-frame attachment. It's a nice steel construction for maximum strength and safety. Your receiver opening is a two inch by two inch opening. The pin holes on this unit will accept a standard 5/8 inch diameter pin or hitch lock.

You're going to have your nice large safety chain connection points. One on each side of your two inch by two inch receiver tube. It's going to feature a class three rating. The maximum gross trailer weight capacity is 5,000 pounds or 6,000 pounds if used with weight distribution. Tongue weight maximum is 500 pounds or 600 pounds if used with weight distribution. On these brackets that attach to the framing of RV and motor home, the distance between these mount holes that's going to be eight and 5/8 of an inch. From the center of the hitch pin hole to the receiver opening is two and a half inches. From the cross tube to the opening is six and a quarter. From the back of the cross tube to the receiver opening is eight and 3/4 of an inch. Curt also puts a limited lifetime warranty on this unit. Now please keep in mind that this is for use with RV approved accessories only. The main hitch body tube can be trimmed so that the ends are flush with the frame brackets, 51 inches end to end all the way down to 18 inches. If you have your frame brackets located right here, you're going to have a lot of excess. That can be trimmed off for a nice clean installation overall finish. Now if you do that, you will want to coat the bare metal with paint to protect against rust and corrosion. If welding this hitch, all welding surfaces must be cleaned to bare metal or the weld will not be the required strength and may void the warranty. That's going to do it for today's look at the adjustable width trailer hitch for RVs.

Good quality product but had to make modifications to make it fit my Cardinal Estate's wide frame. Don't recommend doing that unless you're a good welder 610715

Bought a new Jeep Wrangler 2-door that I wanted to tow cross country. The existing hitch on my Gulfstream BT Cruiser was only rated at 3500 lbs. and I wanted to upgrade that to 5000 lbs. which was allowable after checking all the weight measurements. Found this adjustable hitch on etrailer.com and thought it would work for me. I mounted the brackets and cross bar temporarily to center the receiver and then mark where I needed to drill into the cross bar. Removed the bar and drilled using a step drill bit and finally the regular drill bit. Mounted everything up loosely, then tightened moderately to make sure everything fit right. Then loosened each bolt, applied red loctite, and torqued to spec. Towed the Wrangler over 4500 this past fall and the hitch worked perfectly. Can't be happier. 495600

Product is very well built and looks nice. You may not want pictures of it, as I am installing it on the front of my pick-up to carry a bike rack. The hitches made for the truck put the hitch right in the middle of the license plate--this one will ride very nicely below the air dam below the bumper. 554569

Great product and solid connection to the front of the Discovery 2. Some out of the box thinking to install but most was cutting to fit. All mount points original in frame and slide mounts on hitch were great. Used upside down on mounts and then hung between frame rails. 420583

Do you have a question about this RV and Camper Hitch?

  • Trailer Hitch for 2016 Forest River Columbus Fifth Wheel
  • There are different hitch receivers which may work for your 2016 Forest River Columbus depending on the width of its frame. The Curt Adjustable Width Trailer Hitch Receiver # C13702 works with box frame, C-channel frame, or I-beam frames that are 18" to 51" wide and has a maximum tongue weight of 500 lbs and maximum gross trailer weight of 5,000 lbs. The Curt Adjustable Width Trailer Hitch Receiver # 13703 works with box frame, C-channel frame, or I-beam frames that are 22" to 72" wide...

  • Recommended Motorcycle/Scooter Carrier With Hitch Receiver For Motorhome
  • You do not need a bumper to add a hitch and carrier for your scooter. I recommend the Adjustable Width Trailer Hitch Receiver for RVs, 18" to 51" Wide # C13702 or the # UF35-946403 which adjusts from 47-1/8 to 77 inches. Either of these hitch receivers will mount to your motorhome frame so a bumper is not needed. This can be used with the MaxxTow MaxxHaul Aluminum Motorcycle Carrier for 2" Hitches - 400 lbs # MT70101 for your scooter. I recommend the Motorcycle Soft Loops # 06303...

These will require drilling into the frame for bolt-on installation. You can see all such hitches on the linked page. It will be necessary to check along the vehicle frame to determine if there is enough space for the hitch mounting flanges. All of these options can be welded on and several also offer bolt-on installation...

  • Trailer Hitch That Fits 2015 Winnebago Trend
  • We have a trailer hitch that does fit your 2015 Winnebago Trend based on the dimensions you listed but since your frame is 55 inches from outside to outside the part # C13702 won't fit as it's max width is 51 inches. Instead you'd want the Curt # 13703 which fits up to a 72 inch wide frame width. This hitch also has a capacity of 3,500 lbs which would be more than enough for your application.

Both offer the same 500-lb tongue weight (TW) capacity but hitch # C13701 has 2-inches of drop in the receiver tube. These are rated for tongue weights of up to 500 lbs. I did a little research on your Yamaha 3500 generator dimension and based on what I found, I recommend using a cargo carrier like the TorkLift Lock and Load 27-3/4" x 24" Maximum Security Cargo Tray - 2" Hitches # TLA7752 or a more basic cargo carrier like # C18153. • I do have a possible solution for you but there aren't any aftermarket custom fit hitches that are confirmed to fit RV models on the 2016 Ford Transit T350. But take a look at Curt adjustable trailer hitch # C13702. This is essentially the same design as the hitch in the picture you have included. I wish we had a custom fit option for you but an adjustable hitch is the best option.

Both are Class III hitches with a 2" receiver that is rated for 5,000 lbs GTW (gross trailer weight) and 500 lbs TW (tongue weight). • Trailer Hitch Option for a 2004 Keystone Cougar 281EFS With Slide Out Cargo Tray Removed
  • The Curt RV hitch part # C13702 is a universal fit trailer hitch that can fit trailer frames that are between 18 and 51 inches apart measured from outside to outside. If you have clear access to the frame with the tray removed and it fits the mentioned dimensions the hitch would work well for you. For a hitch with a wider width range you would want the part # 13703 instead. This fits nearly all frame styles and has a range of 22 to 72 inches.

  • Side Brackets on Curt Trailer Hitch C13702 are too Tight to Slide On and Off Hitch Tube
  • The issue is most likely caused by some excessive powder coating on the brackets, hitch tube, or both for hitch # C13702. It is permissible to sand away excessive powder coat. Some light lubrication will also help. Those two things will probably do the trick but if it still needs a little persuasion might I suggest a rubber mallet rather than a sledge so as not to damage the hitch.
