I love this bike rack! went on a 2400 mile trip and the bikes stayed on and did not wobble at all. We easily fit 4 bikes on comfortably. have not tried to put 5 bikes on rack. Just alternate the bikes, (one left-right the next right-left and slightly angle them depending the type of bikes you own. gets easier to use each time. 369724

Purchased this after reading some of the other reviews and Q&A on etrailer - i hadn't thought about the fact that how the crossbars on the bike are configured makes a difference - 3 of our 5 bikes wouldn't have fit on a two bar bike rack because the openings are two small (I ended up measuring them before selecting a rack). I still ended up having to use the adapter for one of them which works great. Installation was easy (I had uhaul put a receiver hitch on my 2012 odyssey the week before) - you do have to pull a pin on the bottom of the rack when you tilt it, which some might consider an inconvenience compared to some of the other brands that just have release levers, but i view it as less stuff to break compared to those racks. If you're going to have it on a lot and park in a garage, consider the fact that it doesn't collapse because it does add significant length to the vehicle. 5 bikes are definitely doable if you set it up correctly. I think its the most versatile rack you can get based on the way it holds the bikes and would definitely recommend. 145641

i actually just put it on again this morning - we love it, i think the only thing i would say is that i wish there was some way to keep it a little tighter in the receiver hitch. the bolt tends to loosen after a bit of driving - nothing unsafe, just makes it sway and bounce a bit more and needs to be retightened.

This has worked exactly as expected - good for two trips into the Rocky Mountains with five bikes loaded. Very pleased. 673849

Good value. With creative positioning, I put 1 large adult bike with a straight crossbar, two adult bikes with angled crossbars, and two kids bikes with angled crossbars - with no crossbar adapters on any of them (by tilting the bike holders). One complaint: the locking bike clamp handle stinks. I plan to buy a non locking replacement handle. The original required constant key pressure to unscrew the handle - you can't just not lock it because it essentially locks when the handle gets tight. Unscrewing via a flimsy key - when the handle is tight - may lead to a broken key and lock. 673829

- Very pleased with the ease of order and timeliness of shipping. It was straightforward and very quick - The bike rack was easy to assemble and looks good. We recently used it for the MS150 in Columbia, MO. - The only complaint I have is that it moves too much when driving. I tried to use the strap that comes with it, but that makes no difference it the rack movement. 99398

Review from a similar XP in Hitch Bike Racks

I bought it primarily to use it on my camper to haul the kids bikes when we go camping. It was a little harder to assemble than I expected it would be but the reason is because you have to position each holder individually for each bike. That slight down fall makes it nice though because each bike will be properly positioned and secured for travel. I bought the model with the factory lock, I'm glad I decided on that model. I'm also glad that it has the anti rattle feature especially going on a camper. The bike rack even works with a spare tire mounted right next to it. 544403

Review from a similar XP in Hitch Bike Racks

Bought this to take the bikes for my family of four on vacation and I have only used it three times in the last 12 months, the most recent just a week ago. I remain completely happy with my purchase. The ability to angle the brackets allows me to easily fit our 4 bikes (adult male, adult female, 12 yr male, 10 yr female). My wife's bike fits okay without an adapter, but my daughter's bike required a bar adapter since the space between her frame would not fit over the brackets. One thing to note, to get my wife and sons bikes on, I have to remove the brackets for the bikes in front of them. Don't be stubborn, just do this. I scratched the frames putting them on the first time without removing the other brackets, and it ended up taking longer fighting them on. This is because of the way her bike frame is built and his is simply smaller. I am considering buying the bar adapters for them as well just to avoid having to remove the brackets, but we don't really use it enough yet to purchase them. My bike, with the wider frame, goes on quickly and easily. Tip: Take a picture of how you fit the bikes on! It will save you having to figure it out again the next time. 410383

Review from a similar XP in Hitch Bike Racks

Ordered this bike rack, the locking / anti rattle / threaded hitch pin, & the adapter for an alternative frame bike. Very impressed with e-trailer dot com. Price was great. The order shipped quickly & arrived early. It was securely packed. Did A LOT of research & chose this bike rack as it was one of the few that was approved by the manufacturer for RV use. The bike rack went together fairly easily. The wife helped me as it was good to have a 2nd set of hands. Hint: I started assembling it on the garage floor but it's easier to do in a hitch insert. Finally used it on our class C RV this past weekend. All in all, no complaints. The wife was driving behind me & said the bike rack was fairly steady. Pleased with e trailer dot com & the bike rack! 57797

Review from a similar XP in Hitch Bike Racks

The swagman xp bike rack we purchased did not work well for us. The locking cradle broke shortly after one use. The cradles slide when tightened, and as a result the bikes on the rack are not very secure and move around during a trip. I do not know how 4 bikes would fit on this rack. We have only 2 trail bikes and they were taking up a lot of the space. I did not return the bike rack because it weighted so much and the package would have been very expensive to return. The only reason I gave it 2 stars is because it is made with very sturdy steel construction. i would not purchase again. We went to a local bike shop, spent more money and purchased a Thule which we are very pleased with. Live and learn..... 519536

Review from a similar XP in Hitch Bike Racks

So far, so good. I just received this last week and installed it on the back of my fifth wheel. We have four bikes (2 adult bikes and two kids bikes), and fitting all four of the bikes on the racks took some creativity but it was possible. The rack seems very sturdy, but we will see if it stands the test of time as we are full-time RVers who travel about 6,000 miles per year. Our last bike rack (Swagman XTC4) was completely worn out after about 14,000 miles of use on the back of our fifth wheel. 152648

Comments
After one year, this bike rack is still performing very well on the back of our fifth wheel. We have travelled over 5,000 miles with our bikes in tow, and it still looks and operates like brand new. I was able to make four full-size bicycles fit on it, but you have to be creative.

In response to Richard N., we had a 2 hitch receptacle installed on the rear of our fifth wheel when we ordered it from the factory. The bike rack is installed by sliding it into the hitch receptacle.

We bought this bike rack for our 24 ft travel trailer. We needed one that was not going to shake and cause the bikes to come off like the previous one did. This one works perfectly for this purpose. No need for extra tie-downs. I love the lock feature, and the quick mount and dismount of the bikes. Thank you so much for your proffesional advice and a great product. 336351

1st thing-- only buy this unit is your looking for a RV hitch. Forget Yakima, Thule, etc. I have broken two of the other brands!! Little downside is that this is really a 3 bike rack. Top arm should be 2" longer if you don't want your bicycles banging together. They should make some changes to the bolts that tighten down the holders, or instead you leave the knobs on other wise you will scratch your bicycles knocking them on the bolts. 98181

Review from a similar XP in Hitch Bike Racks

After researching the multitude of bike racks available, Pat at etrailer spent over 30 minutes with me on the phone answering my questions about which would be the best rack for our SUV and our particular bike styles. We settled on the Swagman XP 4-bike rack. The cradles are adjustable and be rotated so that the wheels of any bike can be kept parallel to the ground regardless of the angle of the bike frame. It worked as advertised, and I can 100% recommend etrailer as a very reliable source. The people there are interested in helping you, and they deliver. Great company! 81561

Still perfect. Our bike trip last July to Montana and Idaho was a great test of the Swagman bike rack. We had four bikes totaling 80 pounds and had absolutely no issues. With the U brace keeping the rack base tight against the hitch, there was no wobbling at all. A great trip was made better by having the peace of mind provided by a sturdy rack to safely transport our bicycles. Thank you etrailer!

The service from etrailer was awesome. I ordered on a weekend and yet by Sunday night I had an email saying the product was shipped. On top of that the shipping was upgraded at the same cost.... FREE! The Bike Rack is great. Went together easily and is very heavy duty. The only problem I have and it was anticipated is that my bike frame is not round, it is oval shaped and it barely fits into the gripper. But as I said I expected it to be close from the product description. This rack should give me many years of service and I highly recommend it and etrailer!! 91987

Product is fantastic, fast delivery. Outstanding support prior to sale by Julie M. prior to the sale. Had a unique situation as I was hanging my folding bikes so the frame configuration was a bit different. I was able to put them on and they are very secure, and everything is good on the back of my Casita travel trailer. 92727

Review from a similar XP in Hitch Bike Racks

I've never been so frustrated with a bike rack until now. I have 5 kids bikes, none of them can fit on this thing. Either the bars on the bikes are to fat and you can't close the clamp or the frame is to small to fit over the bottom bracket. I bought the deal that clamps on the handle bars and bike seat for kids bikes, that thing doesn't work either. It's not just kids bike, my beach cruiser won't fit on the thing, the frame bars are apparently to big to get the clamp closed. So much wasted time spent on this thing.. 744807

If youre looking for a different style bike rack to transport a wide variety of bikes, one great option at a similar price point is the Lets Go Aero BikeWing T4 # B01458
Lets Go Aero BikeWing T4, 2+2 4-Bike Rack - 2" Hitches - Folding - Horizontal Wheel Mount
$236.01
because it is adjustable enough to fit kids, womens, and alternative frame bikes without the use of an adapter bar. Another great option, though at a higher price point, is a rack like the Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE4 # HR1400Z
Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE 4 Bike Platform Rack - 2" Hitches - Frame Mount
$499.99
as it holds your bikes at 3 points and offers adjustability to support kids, womens, and alternative frame bikes.

Review from a similar XP in Hitch Bike Racks

Overall (structurally) it is very well made and appears very sound. However, have 2 comments regarding potential improvements; i.e.: 1) Recommend having the anti-rattle nut feature for the 2" hitch attachment being included at both holes (as shown in the assembly directions included with our bike rack). The one that we got, only has the threaded attachment (anti-rattle feature) at the outer most hole on the 2" square tube. To use this feature, you don't get much hitch engagement, but if you use the inner hole (with more hitch engagement), you have a standard 5/8" pin with lots of play (excessive vibration). 2) Do not recommend the Locking Knob as currently provided. During assembly, we tested it by tightening it down, but could not remove it (even with the key). We needed needle nose pliers to remove, and when disassembled found that the internal locking spindle can lose contact with locking portion when tightened. Since we cannot trust this locking feature, we have ordered two new non-locking knobs; i.e. one for replacement and one as a spare. We also ordered a better locking design to avoid this problem in the future. 681008

Comments
I spoke with my contact at Swagman and they confirmed that this rack is designed to only have the hitch pin hole closest to the upright mast threaded for the anti-rattle pin. If you are not interested in having two hitch pin holes or locking feature built into the rack, the Swagman Original # S64400
Swagman Original - 4 Bike Rack for 2" Trailer Hitches
$144.17
or Yakima RoadTrip # Y02477
Yakima RoadTrip RV Bike Rack - 4 Bikes - 2" Hitches - Black
$219.00
are both comparable bike racks you may be interested in. A locking cable like the Deadbolt 10 Foot Long Cable Lock # CAB-10
Deadbolt 10' Long Cable Lock
$19.17
is great for securing your bikes to your vehicle.

Review from a similar XP in Hitch Bike Racks

I ordered this bike rack for use on my wifes 2014 honda accord, when I decided to install a Curt Reciever hitch (C11681) on the car. As usual etrailers' service was excellent and everything arrived quickly and in good shape. After I assembled the rack and went to mount it on the car I discovered the threads on the bolt were damaged. After determining the size, I tried another bolt in the reciever "block"of the rack. These threads were unusable as well. I was planning on using the rack soon for an upcoming trip, so I decided to forgo dismantling everything, repackaging, and shipping back to etrailer, for replacement. Instead, I purchased a tap and die and "chased" the threads on both pieces. Works fine now, and I am pleased overall with the way the rack works. I only use it for 2 bikes and it is very secure with little wobble. Hopefully the bad threads on mine were a fluke. If not, Swagman needs to look at quality control in this area. 457663

You will need to make sure that the hitch you are having installed is a Class II or higher hitch, otherwise you will be limited to only carrying 2 bikes the hitch is a Class I. For the childrens bikes with...

  • Will Swagman XP 5 Trailer Hitch Mount Bike Rack Clear the 2008 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Spare Tire
In order to determine if the Swagman XP, # S64970, or another bike rack will fit, you will need to take one important measurement on your 2008 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. Measure from the center of the hitch pin hole out to the distance required to clear the spare tire. If this distance is less than 7-3/4 inches, the bike rack will clear the spare tire. Based on a hitch installation we did on a 2008 Wrangler, the distance to clear the spare tire is 12 inches that particular model. So as...

The Swagman XP Folding 5-bike rack for 2 inch Trailer Hitches, part # S64970, will accommodate bikes with frames up to 2 inches in diameter. As long as the frame of your bike is no more than 2 inches, then this bike rack should work great.

  • Comparing 5 Bike Trailer Hitch Mounted Bike Racks From Thule, Yakima, and Swagman
For a 5 bike, trailer hitch mounted bike rack, we have a few options. First is the Thule Apex XT, # TH9026XT, that you have referenced. This bike rack does tilt down away from the vehicle to allow you greater access to the rear of your Nissan Armada. With the rack fully tilted down, you should be able to open the rear hatch. This bike rack also features anti-sway cradles and a built-in anti-rattle device. Next we have the Yakima RidgeBack 5, # Y02459. This rack can also tilt down like...

  • Bike Rack Recommendation for Carrying 5 Bikes on a 2010 Honda Odyssey
Since you have childrens bikes, which have smaller frames, I recommend the Thule Apex # TH9026XT. This will give you the dual arms with anti-sway cradles that will work well for kids bikes or adult bikes even if you have a step thru frame using an adapter bar like # 64005. If you prefer a single arm bike rack I recommend you get a Swagman Hitch Bike Rack # S64970. This single arm rack will work well for carrying your childrens bikes at the center frame. I attached installation instructions...

  • Carrying 6-8 Bikes for a Family of 6 with a 2016 Acura MDX
To carry up to 8 bikes on your 2016 Acura MDX I recommend a combination trailer hitch mounted bike rack and roof mounted bike racks. Starting with a trailer hitch, Draw-Tite hitch # 75225 is an excellent choice. This hitch has a 2 inch receiver so it will be compatible with many bike racks. I have included a link to a video showing an example installation for you. Then for a bike rack I recommend a model that can hold 5 bikes such as the Swagman XP, # S64970. This rack has a single arm...

  • Recommended 5 Bike Capacity Rack for Rear of a Chevrolet Suburban
We do offer a few racks that are capable of carrying 5 bikes (see link). All can carry 5 bikes, but the problem is that all bikes have different frame configurations, handle bars and overall sizes. With 5 bikes it is like a puzzle to figure out the configuration that will accept all of the bikes on the rack. Usually after a bit of trial and error you can figure out how to get the bikes loaded on the carrier and would then have to stick to that order each time you load the bikes. I...

  • Recommended Best Hitch and 5-Bike Rack for a Honda Odyssey 2015
Good news, you came to the right place, I can help you find the best 5-bike rack and hitch for your 2015 Honda Odyssey. First you are correct the weight capacity of the 2 inch Hidden hitch # 87479 and Draw-Tite # 75270 are superior to that of the Curt hitch, so either would be a good choice. Currently the Hidden hitch is no longer in production so the Draw-Tite model # 75270 is the best hitch for your Odyssey. I have linked an installation video of the install for your convenience....

  • Trailer Hitch and Bike Rack Recommendations for a 2006 Suzuki Grand Vitara
Many of our customers install their hitches themselves. You can always have a trusted mechanic or handy friend or relative install it for you, if this is something you would not feel comfortable doing yourself. The Draw-Tite class III Trailer Hitch Receiver, # 75448 would be ideal for your vehicle. We offer a few bike racks that can handle 5 bicycles. The Swagman XP, # S64970, and the Thule Apex, # TH9026XT. The fit issue that we will have is the spare tire on the rear of the vehicle....

  • What 5 Bike Hitch Bike Racks Are Available To Fit A 2007 Mercedes Benz GL450
I have a few hitch bike racks that will carry 5 bikes that I would recommend. The Thule Apex XT 5 Bike Rack, part # TH9026XT, will fit a Class III 2 inch hitch and has a weight capacity of 150 lbs. The Yakima RidgeBack 5 Bike Rack, part # Y02459, will fit Class II 1-1/4 inch hitch and Class III 2 inch hitch. It has a weight capacity of 150 lbs. Both the Thule and The Yakima have anti-sway cradles that prevent bike-to-bike contact. The Swagman XP 5 Bike Rack, part # S64970, is...

  • 4- and 5-Bike Hitch Rack Options for Chevrolet Suburban
Four or five full-suspension bikes will have a substantial total weight so a hitch-mounted bike carrier is really your only option. There are no trunk/hatch-mount bike carriers in a 5-bike capacity. The hitch on your Suburban could be either a 2-inch or a 2-1/2-inch size. There are no bike racks made for 2-1/2-inch hitches but it is easy to use a 2-inch rack even in a 2-1/2-inch hitch simply by installing a reducer sleeve such as # 58102. This slips into the larger hitch and drops its...

  • 4 Bike Rack and Hitch Recommendation for a 2010 Honda Odyssey
Between the two racks you mentioned I would recommend the XTC4 part # S64665. The XP5 part # S64970 is a great rack, but the XTC will be much easier to load and unload. Hanging racks can be a bit cramped when you get several bikes on them. Especially when the rack only uses one frame cradle like the XP5. The XTC4 is a fantastic rack that just works really well. It's not the most expensive or fancy rack out there but it just works really well. I attached a review video for the rack for...
