Dual Folding Arms with Anti-Sway Cradles

Hollywood Racks Road Runner 2-Bike Hanging-Style Rack Folding Dual Arms with TriggerFinger Lever

The Road Runner has dual arms that provide excellent support for your bikes. It also has an anti-sway bar that provides a secondary tie-down point for the outer four bikes. Four included straps secure your bikes to the loops on the anti-sway bar to prevent the wheels and the pedals from spinning. This gives the Road Runner more protection against sway and vibration than many hanging bike racks offer.

Hollywood Racks Road Runner armsHollywood Racks Road Runner 2-Bike Hanging-Style Rack TriggerFinger Lever

To fold the arms down and the anti-sway bar up, unscrew the upper and lower hand knobs, pull the arms out of the grooves, lower each arm, raise the anti-sway bar, and re-tighten the hand knobs. This leaves a smaller footprint, so you can keep the rack on your vehicle to park in your garage. And when stored in this configuration, it doesn't take up as much space in your garage.

Hollywood Racks Road Runner 5-bike Hanging-Style Rack Folding Cradles

Anti-sway cradles secure each bike twice along the top tube and once along the seat post or downtube. This reduces rocking to help prevent your bikes from banging into each other or into your vehicle. The soft rubber cradles rotate around the arms to accommodate your bikes' frames.

Hollywood Racks anti sway strap

For additional protection to prevent your bikes from banging into each other during transport, wrap the included anti-sway strap through your bikes' frames and tires. It also prevents your wheels and pedals from spinning.

Easy Tilting for Cargo Area Access

Hollywood Racks Road Runner 5-Bike Hanging-Style Rack Tilting

The rack tilts down without your bikes loaded. This means you won't have to remove the whole rack to access your cargo area for grocery runs and other errands.

Hollywood Racks Road Runner 2-Bike Hanging-Style Rack Lower HitchSwitch Lever

To tilt the rack, loosen the thumb screw at the base of the mast, remove the pin, and lower the rack. When you're ready to go, lift the rack up, re-insert the pin, and tighten the thumb screw.

Tool-Free Installation

Hollywood Racks Road Runner installation

The rack quickly installs in your hitch receiver, without the need for tools. Just slide the shank into your hitch and turn the hand lever until snug. Turning the lever deploys an anti-rattle wedge in the shank to help take play out of the hitch connection. Insert the hitch pin into the hole to secure the rack to your receiver.

Complete Security

Hollywood Racks Road Runner locks

The rack includes locks to secure your bikes to the rack and the rack to your vehicle. An included cable lock threads around your bikes' frames, through the welded-on bar at the base of the rack and inserts back into the end of the cable. The hitch pin also has a keyed-alike lock, so you only need to use 1 key for both locks.

Available Adapter Bar

Hollywood Racks adapter bar

If you have a women's bike, kid's bike, or any other bike without a straight, horizontal top tube, you will need an adapter bar (sold separately) to properly mount your bike. The bar fits between the seat post and handlebar stem post of your bike to create a top tube so your bike hangs level on the rack.

So, one year in, this works well for the price. I have successfully hauled around 5 bikes a couple times now including a couple vacations. Bikes got there securely despite 4+ hours of driving at interstate speeds, including one harrowing stretch on bumpy roads with 70 mph speed limits (wow Texas, seriously?) where the car got significant amounts of "air" at random intervals.

Getting the bikes on and off is still a major pain. I had to buy the adapter for 3 womens/children's bikes. My own full size mountain bike barely fits on, too, the pitch between the bars seems a bit challenging and requires me to contort the bike dramatically to get it on and off. If you are trying to actually get 5 bikes on here, figuring out the bike handle tetris game is not easy. Will take you a bit. It still takes me ~15 min to load 5 bikes up every time. On short trips I sometimes skip the tiedown through all the bike wheels and it's fine, although I wouldn't do it for long trips.

My biggest regret here is not buying one where the rack will pivot out to allow access to the rear minivan hitch with the bikes attached -- this means this is the last thing to pack in the car and the first thing you unpack, every time on vacation. It requires planning and forethought. The rack does fold down nicely which we used extensively on vacation once the bikes were unpacked, just don't drive around that way.

On my Honda minivan the bottom of this sags a bit when fully loaded with bikes, to the extent I scrape hard every time exiting my slightly inclined driveway. We found a few other low spots along our way, from restaurants to other businesses, that resulted in similar cringe-inducing moments.

We drove it on the beach quite a bit, after a healthy wash with the pressure washer there is some mild rusting where the handles rotate, but the rack is otherwise in good shape.

Bought several bike racks and trailer hitches from etrailer. They followed up to make sure all was good. I would highly recommend buying from them. Good people and they care about the customer!

by:

I have really liked this bike hitch. We took a 4 State Road trip to do baking and traveled over 1000 miles with five bikes on the hitch. I did not have one issue the whole time!

by:

Easy to install with clear instructions. Works really well with multiple bikes. Haven't used it much yet but it has been excellent when we have had occasion to use it.

by:

I love this bike rack! It is easy to install before a ride and easy to remove after as well. The unit is well constructed for many years of use. I recommend this bike rack to everyone!

by:

This bike rack is very sturdy and stable, and pretty easy to install and remove. We are very happy with it!

This is my second Hollywood 4 bike rack with a 2" hitch. The first one was purchased in 2002 and was destroyed in a vehicle accident in May of 2019. I must say the new one is just as good as the first one with improvements in the bike latching system. Nothing on the current market compares with the quality of this product. I know I will have many more years of use and durability. etrailer is a great company to deal with. I was kept abreast of the shipping and transit status of the HR400 from the time of order until delivery. I would definitely buy from etrailer again.

by:

I spent an excessive amount of time researching bike racks. I had always thought THULE was the go to for bike racks but I had read some bad experiences so that made me look elsewhere. I specifically wanted a hanging rack so I came across this model. It is incredibly sturdy and well built. Literally no wobble at all. I have only hauled 2 bikes so far and they fit very easily. Plenty of room for 2 more bikes. I like the straps and I like the anti-sway bar. Additionally it’s not too heavy so it’s very easy to move around. The instructions are pretty bad but luckily it’s very intuitive so I as able to figure it out. Disclaimer- the only real comparison I have to this one is a trunk mounted rack and an old school rack from 20 years ago. But - I’m very happy with the purchase and it arrived quickly. Highly reccommended.

by:

I've carried 4 adult mountain bikes with no problem. The rack is very solid and I like that you don't need a tool to wedge it in place. I had them on a Highlander and the rack felt very secure. Having a lockable pin and a cable lock is another nice feature. I used the lower bar when I had 4 bikes to eliminate the bikes swaying but I don't use it with 2 bikes because cable lock and small strap is more than sufficient. I do prefer the ratcheting straps to the rubber straps that are on this rack. The ratcheting straps are easier to secure but the rubber straps get the job done. I would recommend this rack.

by:

I've been using this bike rack for over a year and am overall very happy with the performance and quality. It is easy to remove and reinstall, and the straps are sturdy. There is a little slop in the fit between the hitch and the bike rack itself, even with the locking pin tightening mechanism.

by:

I did a lot of research on various websites before choosing the HR400. I wanted the strength of a full-size shank member designed exclusively for a 2-inch receiver.

Hitch arrived within 3 days as promised. Assembly only involved inserting and tightening only one bolt, inserting hitch pin, then tightening "no-wobble lever". I used it to transport 2 bikes across town and I can report it was very solid, not a hint of wobble or noise.

It's kind of embarrassing, but the biggest challenge I had was figuring out how use the nylon wheel strap buckles. I probably fussed longer with the buckles than I did with unboxing and installing the rack. Threading the nylon strap correctly through the plastic buckles is a snap once you solve the puzzle. (google it). The wheel straps are a nice touch and keep the bikes rock steady. For a short trip on smooth roads with only 2 (aluminum) bikes, I tried skipping the wheel straps and the bikes stayed reasonably solid. Probably would always use wheel straps if I had expensive carbon fiber bikes or if I was going on a longer trip with the possibility of rough roads. I am almost 70 and have no difficulty removing and reinstalling the rack. So far 5-stars.

by:

I bought my first Hollywood rack 15 years ago and am still using it. I got a smaller hitch and needed a new rack - so of course I got a new Hollywood 4-bike carrier.
It works great! When I've need parts or had questions, the company has been very responsive.
I wish all companies made stuff this good!

by:

Really easy to put together and mount to the car. Comes with locks for locking the rack to the hitch receiver AND a bike lock to secure the bikes to the rack itself. Would recommend if you're looking for a good quality bike mount for your hitch.

by:

Quality was great however I couldn't fit 3 bikes on this "4" bike carrier. First 2 bikes went on ok. Couldn't safely put third (smaller) bike on there even if I put it at the end and used it for 3 bikes. Tires were hitting brake lever and handlebar of other bike. Didn't want to take a chance that motion from travel would damage either bike. This is only a 4 bike carrier if you have the right 4 bikes. Had to eat return shipping. That's $[XX] I'll never see again.

by:

Over all this rack is working out great. I have not fully loaded it yet but it carries my 60 lbs ebike very snuggly and handles my standard street bike no problem at all.

by:

etrailer was very helpful in picking out the right trailer hitch mounted bike rack and after this weekend of biking (and carrying our bike on the rack), I can say the rack worked great. It was easy to load and held the bike steady. Many thanks.

by:

This four bike rack is superior. We have a Jeep with the mounted rear spare tire, so we needed an extra long connector piece. Everything works great, a good price, great customer service. Thanks fr filling an unusual need.

  • Weight Capacity of Hollywood Racks Road Runner 5 Bike Carrier HR520
The Hollywood Racks Road Runner 5 Bike Carrier # HR520 tilts down for easier vehicle access when it is not loaded with bikes. It offers a total bike weight capacity of 150-lbs. In many cases the 5 loaded bikes themselves would prevent the rack from tilting all the way down as far as it can.

  • Difference Between Hollywood Racks Traveler and Road Runner
There are a couple more differences in the Hollywood Racks Road Runner item # HR520 and the Hollywood Racks Traveler 5 Bike Carrier HR9200 than the included hitch pin and cable lock. The lower brace on the Road Runner provides anchor points for stabilization straps to run through. This keeps the wheels and tires from spinning while you're driving. The Traveler does not have this feature. The Road Runner has a 150 lbs capacity and the Traveler can carry five bikes up to 35 lbs a piece. The...

  • Are Cradles Flexible on Hollywood Racks Road Runner Bike Rack
The cradles on the Hollywood Racks Road Runner # HR520 are fairly stiff and don't have much, if any, give where they swoop up. The rubber straps are flexible though so they will fit just fine over the bike frame. An alternative solution that will fit with a wide variety of bike frame styles is the Hollywood Racks Destination Bike Rack for 4 Bikes # HR4000. This is a cost-effective option when it comes to platform racks but it is compatible with standard bikes and it uses cradles and straps...

  • Recommended Hitch for Carrying 5 Bike Rack on 2015 Honda Odyssey
For a 5-bike rack, you'll want to use a 2 inch Class III trailer hitch like the # 75270 Draw-Tite you mentioned. Since you won't be pulling a trailer, you won't need a trailer wiring harness, just the hitch and a bike rack. The Hollywood Racks Road Runner # HR520 would work well on your Odyssey. Please be aware that getting 5 bikes on a rack can be a tight squeeze, you'll want to alternate the direction of each bike. I've linked you to a demonstration video for the Road Runner bike rack.

We can absolutely help you find exactly the bike rack they'll need to carry the whole family's bikes. In the event that they don't already have a hitch on their 2014 Honda Odyssey, one will be required to carry 5 bikes. I recommend using the Draw-Tite Max Frame Class III Hitch # 76025 which has a 2" hitch receiver since it will mount behind the bumper and install mostly hidden on the vehicle; the only visible part of the hitch will be the receiver, which also means that there's not a visible...
