Video Transcript for Epicord 50 Amp RV Power Cord with Handle Review

Jake: Hey, guys, it's Jake here with etrailer. Today we're going to be taking a look at, and I'm going to be showing you some of the features on Epicord's line of power cords for campers and RVs.Now, this is going to be a 50 amp to 50 amp female and male end power cord to be able to get your RV or camper plugged into power at your campsites. The nicest thing about this Epicord is going to be the type of plug that's going to plug into your camper or RV. It's going to have this 90 degree turn, so you can see here on our other type of plug the wire is just going to free hang from the edge of our camper, putting pressure on the inside plug here, potentially causing damage and on the end of our wire, it could pull our wires loose and cause a short on the inside of our plug. With these traditional plugs you've got to get a pretty good grip on them to turn them and kind of wiggle them out of your camper to get them out. With this new style handle, it's a pistol grip style handle so you can just take it, slide it in, and twist it. Then you'll take that threaded collar and twist it on.So, you can see here the prime example of our cord hanging straight down rather than pulling at an angle on our plug. So, along with the convenient handle on the RV side of the plug, on your male side, it's also going to have these nice three holes so that you can put your fingers in it to be able to get a good grip to pull that 50 amp out of the plug at the campsite. With these older style plugs they don't have a handle on the back.

They just have these two finger grips on the side that is often very difficult to get out of the plug. This is going to make it a lot easier to just pull it right out. Most of the time when camping you're going to want a 50 amp plug to be able to plug into 50 amp power so that you can run any feature that you want on the inside of your camper or RV, but, it's not a bad idea to have a 30 amp conversion to be able to plug your 50 amp into it and plug the 30 amp if the site doesn't have a 50 amp hookup. So, all in all, I really like the design and the sturdiness of both of the handles on each end. They made sure to make it convenient on both ends of the cord, not just one or the other. These cords are also available in different lengths, just see etrailer we have many different available. With that being said, that's going to do it for our look at Epicord's line of 50 amp power cables.

Been using it for a year continuously and it is doing great! No UV break down/cracking and no issues. The 90 degree bend is a must for longevity. Would recommend 100% 703744

This is a good quality cable, it replaced a Marinco model that was twice the price. We haven't been using it long but I don't see any indication that it won't last if it's taken care of properly. 573544

The plug would not fit correctly. No help from customer service other then ship the product back and wait for many days for a credit. Will never buy from etrailer again. 571536

This power cord is excellent. Not nearly as stiff and bulky as the cord I have now. Can be rolled up into a compact size and the quality is excellent. 505357

- 277-000151

Very good quality and heavy duty 480606

- 277-000151

The cord length is perfect for the normal campsite hookup where the outlet is close to the camper and the 90 degree plug eases the stress on my camper input plug. 480336

Great product and will work great on my new toy hauler 377350

This is prior to installing: my first impression. I checked the conductors for continuity, not under load. I am including a review of the receptacle, which I bought to work together, part no. 277-000140. After a trial fit, I know it will take conductive grease to get the cord plug into and out of, the receptacle. As hard as it was to insert the plug, getting it out was worse ... requiring a screw driver and prying; after a meal of Wheaties; of course, the recep is not mounted. I will have to fabricate a metal plate for the back side to be comfortable that I won't rip the thing of the side of the camper with its fiberglass / thin plywood / foam sandwich construction. I don't think screws alone will hold. Maybe I can come back and edit or reassess the two products after install with photo or two. So, the jury is still out. 319645

Ask the Experts about this Epicord RV Wiring

  • 50-Foot RV Power Cord with 50-Amp Female Twist Lock
In the 50-amp current rating and connector configuration you need the longest RV power cord we offer is the item you referenced, Epicord RV Power Cord # 277-000151. We do have a 50-foot cord without the right-angle female, part # 277-000157.

  • Replacement 50 Amp RV Power Cord
It's hard to say whether the issue is with your cord or power source. The source could be tested but I recommend having a professional do this. On the other hand buying a new cord to test is likely less expensive and easier. If I had to guess I'd lean towards the cord being the issue since it works with the 30 amp adapter on it. As for which cord you really can't go wrong with either. Both the Epicord, part # 277-000151, and Mighty Cord, part # A10-5025ED90, are good products and...

  • Epicord RV Power Cord Disconnects from Trailer Because of Trailer Outlet Position & Weight of Cable
It sounds like you will have to insert the yellow end of # 277-000151, rotate it to "lock" it into place, and then run the cable up and over the yellow plug and then route the cable down so that the weight is on the other side pulling the plug the opposite direction it would turn if the cable was hanging normally. The other option is to adjust the plug on the trailer so as to eliminate the issue altogether. This is the first time I have heard of this issue so it could be that the trailer...

  • Is the Epicord 50 Amp Male to 50 Amp Twist Lock Female Connector Available in 15 Foot Length
The Epicord RV Power Cord with Handle (50 Amp Male to Twist Lock Female Connector) part # 277-000151 is not offered in a length of 15' long. However, you can use the Mighty Cord 15' RV Power Cord Extension (50 Amp) part # A10-5015EH with the Mighty Cord RV Power Cord Adapter Plug part # A10-5050DAVP instead to give you what you need at a fraction of the cost.

  • Recommended 50 Amp to 30 Amp Adapter for Camper Trailer
I recommend using the Mighty Cord Dogbone RV Power Cord Adapter # A10-3050FBK with your Epicord RV Power Cord # 277-000151. This has 90 degree connectors which make it ideal for tight spaces. Another option (which I like better) is to use the Mighty Cord RV Power Cord Adapter # A10-3050EDBK because you are just using 1 wire and not making multiple connections between your camper and power source. Simply carry both cords with you and when use the correct one to match up with the camp...

  • Recommended Surge Protector for 50 Amp 5th Wheel Trailer Connection to Shore Power
For your 50 amp system, you will want the Camco RV Power Defender Voltage Monitor - 50 Amp # CAM55306. This voltage monitor disconnects when dangerous voltage levels are detected and then reconnects when it stabilizes. This is much better than the cheap surge protectors that need replacing and are only good for one surge and then leave you disconnected or vulnerable. You won't need a different surge protector for your 50 amp RV wiring. For sites that won't have a 50 amp service, I...

  • Available Type of 4-Wire/4-Prong RV Power Cords
If you need an RV power cord with 4-prong plugs it is probably a 50-amp cord rather than a 30-amp. The Mighty Cord 25' RV Power Cord Extension # A10-5025EH has 4-prong 50-amp connectors on both ends. The linked page shows all categories of power cords that we sell. These include replacement hardwired cords like Epicord # 277-000150, extension cords like # A10-5025EH, and power cords like # 277-000151. All of these items are 25-feet long.
