Video Transcript for Epicord 30 Amp Twist Lock Power Inlet Installation - 2018 Nissan NV 2500

Shane: Hi. I'm Shane with etrailer.com. Today we're going to be taking a look at and I'm going to walk you through the installation on the Epicord 30 Amp Twist Lock Power Inlet on our 2013 Nissan NV 2500.Now, this is going to be great for getting your vehicle 30 amps of power or 125 volts. Like a lot of people are doing nowadays, they're taking vans like this then they're turning them into their own camper, so they can design them the way they want. A plug like this is going to allow you to run your lighting, run your refrigerator, run your air conditioner if you add one one, which generators, a lot of generators aren't going to be able to do. Or maybe you're like our customer here and they're starting a mobile grooming company for animals, or for dogs.

This is going to allow them to run their water pumps and their vacuum. Our plug's going to have a nice cover that's going to help protect all of our connections from any dirt and debris. It's going to have a seal right inside it. It's actually just like a piece of foam. It seals right around this edge. It's going to help keep any moisture or anything like that from getting in.

You can hear it kind of snaps into place, so it stays closed when you're not using it.It's going to work with your standard three-prong plug, RV plug, that has the twist cap or twist ring on it. You're going to stick it on, twist it, and then you turn the ring and it actually locks that plug into place.A great addition to this or the plug itself would be the Mighty Cord 90-Degree RV Power Cord Adapter. It's going to be 30 amp female side on one side that's going to hook in here and it's going to come down 90 degrees, so you're not putting pressure down on this edge. Then on the other end, you can hook just a regular plug into it and hook it into your house wall outlet. Maybe you have a small refrigerator or something inside that you want to keep cool or cool it off overnight, you have it parked in your driveway, you hook it up, add that adapter on, and hook that cord up to your wall outlet at home, you can have your refrigerator running all night long. Now I'm going to go over some of the features and show you how to get it installed.

First thing you're going to do is determine where you're going to put it. You can see our customer wants it right in this area. Before we start drilling it or cutting the hole in the side of the vehicle, we need to check on the inside to make sure we're not going to be hitting any wiring or anything like that. Our customer already has a panel up here, so what I did is I pulled it back and there's a large opening there. They had filled it with insulation, so what I did is I pulled the insulation out. Now, I know I'm clear.

I'm going to go ahead and drill my hole in the outside and then I'll come in here and I'll drill a small hole just big enough that I can fit my wiring in that's going to go to the plug. The 2-7/8 hole saw bit is not a common one, so you are probably going to have to special order it. There is not a lot of stores that are going to carry it. Now we're going to start drilling our hole. I'm actually going to move it up just a little bit, right at about the corner where they have it marked here.I'm going to take a file. I'm going to knock down all the burrs. Then you can either spray it with maybe clear coat or something. You just want to make sure you cover that bare metal. I'm actually going to use a paint marker. This is all going to be covered up by the plug, so we're not going to see any of it. Just want to make sure if by chance any water or anything like that gets in there, it just keeps it from corroding.Next thing I'm going to do is I need to mark out four of my screw holes. The directions tell you to use #8 stainless steel screws. What I'm going to do is I'm actually going to use a #8 stainless steel bolt, a pan head bolt, and a lock washer and nut on the back side. Now, all we're doing is installing the plug.If you are adding the wiring onto it now, what you want to do is you want to pull your wiring through the hole. You're going to take this cap off. You're going to feed . You're actually going to put your cap, this cap here, on your wiring, feed your wiring through here. It's going to come out here, and then you're going to wire it to the back of your plug. You're going to take this cap. You'll tighten this down, and that'll lock your wires in place. Then you can bolt it to the side wall of the vehicle.Because my customer has not ran any of their wiring yet, they're going to wire it their self, and we're only putting the plug on for them, we're going to go ahead and mark our holes, drill our holes, and put the nut and the bolt in. 1/8" drill bit. Now your nuts and bolts, or your screws, actually, do not come with the plug, so this is something you will have to pick up.Now, I'll pull this back off. Again, I'm going to take my paint marker and cover up that bare metal. Again, we're not wiring our plug, we're just pre-installing the plug for now. It's a good idea, if you have your wiring ran, to go ahead and install it onto the plug before putting your plug or mounting your plug to the wall, because that plug has to be off, the twist lock has to be off, in order to get your wiring through, and it's all on the outside.Again, I'm Shane with etrailer.com. I hope this video has helped you, whether you're still deciding on the plug or installing it on your 2018 Nissan NV 2500.

Product is exactly as advertised, simple installation. Had to use 3" hole saw as finding the requested 2 7/8" seems impossible. 3" works just fine. No issues to date. 447690

Worked like a charm! I purchased this to put a plug on my enclosed trailer that I was wiring for electric (toy hauler set up). A couple of things to keep in mind for those of you looking to do the same. The sheet metal on our enclosed trailers is much to thin to mount this plug to without some back up support. The plug itself is built sturdy enough, but our sheet metal is too thin and weak. I removed the plywood backing and welded up a steel frame with some heavy gauge sheet metal in the middle and bolted the whole support structure to the trailer studs. Then put the plywood back on and cut the hole in the side of the trailer with a hole saw bit and went through the sheet metal of the trailer, my added support sheet metal, and the plywood of the interior. Worked great. Then used self taping screws to hold the plug to the support sheet metal. That bad girl is not moving anytime soon. A couple words of caution, I would plan to use some silicone around the plug after installation. If you are like me and are removing the plug several times while wiring/cutting, you may damage the small gasket that is provided. Just to be safe a quick bead of silicone around the housing and now we covered all of the basis. One more quick tip. Don't be an idiot like me...perhaps it was all of the welding fumes from making my support bracket, or the half dozen beers I had drank during this part of the project, but for some reason I thought it would be a great idea to remove the inner part of the plug from the black housing to wire it together. DO NOT DO THIS. Cost me about 3 min of scratching my head trying to get the bad girl back together. Long story, but the message is simple, there is no need to remove any screws from this plug to install your wires. There are little windows in the back of the plug that allow you to very easily slide your screw driver into and tighten down on your wire. Also, the back of the plug is color coded to help in knowing which wires need to go to which turn lock pins. Sorry for the long review. To recap, this product was perfect and arrived 3 days after I hit the "purchase" button. Couldn't be more happy. Thanks, etrailer! 455377

Seems to be a sturdy product for a good price. The hinge and contacts look strong. Requires a 2-1/2-inch hole saw for installation (if my memory serves me). Could use a waterproofing gasket, but some butyl tape will fix that. Good product! 310627

The original connector was not installed properly by the manufacturer. The wires were pushed into the connector, but the screws were not tightened. The hot lead became very “HOT” and melted the pins out of the plastic. I replaced the connector with this new one. It fit in the same place as the original. I tightened the screws and have had no problems since. 596759

This is the second item I have purchased from etrailer.com and I can say, that both of my experiences have been Five Star. The items were exactly as they described (I must also add that etrailer gives clear and detailed information which makes it easier to make a decision with confidence). Also they excel in prompt delivery and communications as to when to expect receipt of the item (in the case of both items I ordered, they both were delivered as indicated by etrailer. These are certainly qualities which are easy to refer to in making a review, however, there is one more which I am really impressed with and one which allows me to understand why they garner an excellent review from me. When I opened my box, on the inside flap of the carton, is a statement from etrailer.com. The statement says it all - "The bottom of this box should not be the end of our relationship. If we can help, let us know", and then they list a phone number and email address. This underscores their commitment to a great business relationship which results in a satisfied repeat customer. I will continue this relationship. 468937

Nice product. I bought a pair, one black, one white. While the product is nice, it's etrailer that makes the difference Finding a piece-part like this can be a challenge. I'm an engineer and know how to do it and it's hard to plow through mfg catalogs specifying a part number among dozens of options. Even then it's hard to buy just one. OEMs and distributed want to quote a hundred or a thousand. etrailer has done all that work, has it in stock, with helpful people and complete info in easy to understand language. Good part, good price, in stock and delivered on time. 411946

Ask the Experts about this Epicord RV Wiring

Do you have a question about this RV Wiring?

  • Recommendation for Adding AC Unit to Small Enclosed Trailer
  • The best option we have available for your converted enclosed camper is the Advent Air RV Air Conditioner # ACM135BC because it's going to provide the most efficient cooling solution for the camper's interior during those hot summer months. We do not have any smaller AC units available and anything smaller we offer will be something like a powered ceiling fan vent which will only work to circulate air around the camper and not actually cool it down. As you mentioned in your question...

  • Operation of AC Unit and Other Outlet From 2000 Watt Portable Generator
  • We don't carry any 20 amp power inlets. I recommend you upgrade to the Epicord 30 Amp Twist Lock Power Inlet - White # 277-000137 or black # 277-000138. This will work well with a 2000 watt generator like the A-iPower 2,000-Watt Inverter Generator w/ Parallel Kit - Senci Motor - Portable - Gas - 120V # 289-SUA2000I. This combination will allow you to run the interior plugs but not at their max simultaneously. You would need to consider adding the second generator in parallel # 289-SUA2000I-2...

  • How to Hook a Cargo Trailer Up to Shore Power
  • In order to wire your cargo trailer for both 12 volt DC and 110 volt AC power you would need to install a AC/DC distribution panel and power converter which we currently do not offer. You would then wire the 12 volt power to the converter along with all of your 110 volt outlets. In order to hook up to shore power you would first need to install a power inlet like the Epicord 30 Amp Twist Lock Power Inlet part # 277-000138. • The Epicord RV Power Cords, like part # 277-000147 and part # 277-000149, are 30' and 36' feet long cords respectively. Depending on what connections you have they can be used as an extension cord. One end is a 30 Amp male and the other end is a 30 Amp female twist lock connector like what connects to an inlet like part # 277-000138 which would be on your RV or trailer.
